Postmenopausal vaginal bleeding again!

Almost two years ago had a uterine polypectomy following investigation of pmvb, I've now got pmvb again! Also a pinching sensation in my left-hand lower groin now and again. When it started last Thursday I also had diarrhoea for a few days but that's now cleared up. Very occasional bleeding, light-brown. Of course I'm panicking about it being cancer so have got a call with the GP tomorrow. Grandmother - cervical cancer, mother - bowel cancer. Just wanting a hand-hold.. 😞

It is a weird world isn't it? No date yet. The letter from the hospital with results has only just arrived. I would have been climbing the walls if I hadn't spoken to the secretary last week.

It should be imminent.. fingers crossed xx

Hi @FelineUK just checking in. Any dates for you? I am still waiting patiently.

FelineUK · 03/07/2023 21:19

Hi @PutThatDownNow - thank you for your concern.. nice to have the support xx How are you? Yes, hospital called me last Thursday to arrange admittance so having pre-op checks on Wednesday followed by the procedure on Friday 14th. Had another bleed tonight.. just a couple of wipes worth and that's it. I really want to get this sorted out once and for all.

So news from your side? Can you chase them?

I am so pleased you got your date @FelineUK. Good luck for tomorrow.

I don't have an appointment yet. Am on hols at the moment and will chase when I am back. (Most odd to have to pack tampons, so that I can swim with some confidence. It has been a while since I needed to do that.)

FelineUK · 05/07/2023 17:42

@PutThatDownNow ooh.. hope somewhere nice and you're having some warm weather.. blimmin' freezing here in the UK for July!!

Perhaps the appt letter will be waiting for you when you return home?

Thanks @FelineUK. Let's hope it is. If not I will get on the case. I am. In Tunisia and it is very very hot. Not going to complain though. I hope you got on OK today.

Tunisia - beautiful. Enjoy the rest of your stay relaxing and soaking up those rays!

Pre-op stuff went ok.. bit of high blood pressure but I'm carrying a lot of weight which needs to be dealt with asap. Everything else seems ok. Just can't wait to get this over and done with. I've decided I don't want the Mirena coil so I jolly well hope they can suggest some appropriate alternatives, and respect my decision to be a big wuss and not have the coil. (It requires removing in about 5 years, I think.. which would have to be under a general again.. I just don't want to be having another general if I can help it!

Pleased that the pre op stuff went well. I also carry too much weight and that makes me anxious about a general. I hope they find a non-mirena option for you. Hopefully you will be over this and on the mend in a couple of weeks.

Procedure brought forward to this Wednesday as Friday's cancelled due to docs' strike. My main concern is blood pressure so I'll advise them about this and trust that I'm in good hands! Bloody nervous having a GA.. but isn't this just normal?

PutThatDownNow · 08/07/2023 17:34

@FelineUK l think it is good news they brought it forward rather than pushing it back. You will be in excellent hands. Remind them of your blood pressure and then have a good kip 😉. Good luck

PutThatDownNow · 13/07/2023 10:12

@FelineUK Hope you got on OK yesterday and are resting up now.

FelineUK · 13/07/2023 21:05

Thanks @PutThatDownNow , I appreciate your message :-) All went smoothly - in at 7am, left at 6.30pm - what a long day! So. Another polyp was found. Will get result of biopsy in about a week.. this is the other long wait. Also have been prescribed progesterone pill as I didn't want the Mirena coil fitted. And.. have to lose the weight.. polyps occur due to hormones and high BMI. Actually, looking back at my medical history, I had my first bleed and first polyp discovered in 2021, then more bleeding in 2022 and another polyp and now 2023, more bleeding and another polyp. Can't be having this every year!!

Staff at the hospital, especially theatre staff were fabulous. Apparently the last time I was told they didn't do 'sedation', but the anaesthestist said yesterday my records noted I was sedated initially but in a lot of pain so they put me under a GA. I had no memory of that at all! So yesterday he checked my stats, and said, this time you'll sail through it so we'll start off with sedation again and if necessary, put you under again. But yesterday, I did have 'heavy' sedation but no need for a GA. The last thing I remember was the surgeon saying 'Ok, we're just going to wipe the area.. will feel a little cold'.. and that was it! Zonked out. Amazing. Recovery was quick but I was exhausted. Today feel 100% :-)

So, I really need to look at getting a large percentage of weight off.. for my health and actually so that someone more needy can have my hospital bed! I know all the time we're told we shouldn't fat shame.. however I see so many young women in their 20s promoting obesity online but I fear for their health.. maybe not now, but in their 50s, 60s etc. obesity does and can cause disease.. sometimes fatal. I can't do anything about it for others, but I can try to help myself.

Have you got your date yet? xx

I am so pleased it all went well and you are feeling recovered @FelineUK, and that they could offer a non-mirena option. Interesting now that you have tracked it.

And you are right about weight, I need to get mine under control. It is hard, I know the risks but somehow don't connect that to what is going into my mouth.

I have a few days holiday left. Hopefully there will be some news about a date when I get home.

Keep looking after yourself.

fuckmyuteruslining · 15/07/2023 08:40

It's a fair point about weight. Given my bmi I should have had a mirena years ago to try and keep the lining under control but hindsight is 20:20. Since this all turned up I've been doing intermittent fasting and trying to be more active. I don't want to diet madly but improving my metabolic health was clearly a good plan and I think I've lost a little. Slow and steady.

FelineUK · 16/07/2023 02:05

@fuckmyuteruslining sounds like you're doing what's right for you now. There are great results with IF and best way to lose the weight is slowly. Gotta keep moving something which I'm not good at especially working from home.. once I'm sat in the 'the office' my backside rarely leaves the chair. Anyway.. started watching my diet this week and lost a few pounds..

@PutThatDownNow Enjoy the rest of your holiday and keep us posted when you return.

FelineUK · 25/07/2023 23:30

@PutThatDownNow - hope you had a good holiday - have you heard anything since you returned?

I had my result of biopsy today and all clear, thank god. I've been prescribed desogestrel which is the progesterone only mini pill to control the thickness of the womb. However, not keen on taking any drugs if I can help it. I think I will speak to a doctor first before starting..

PutThatDownNow · 12/08/2023 12:14

Pleased to hear you got an all clear @FelineUK . How are you getting on with the pills?

Apologies for the long silence. I was sick for a while after I got back from holiday - not related to the bleeding. Back in my feet now. No date yet. I have chased unsuccessfully and will have another try in the coming week. Bleeding seems to have stopped for now but it comes and goes.

PutThatDownNow · 12/08/2023 12:18

And how about you @fuckmyuteruslining? I need to get a grip on my eating now I am feeling better.

FelineUK · 12/08/2023 14:37

@PutThatDownNow sorry you've been under the weather - hope you're feeling almost recovered now. Wow.. what a long time to wait.. you need to put some pressure on them now to get seen. Whilst it's almost more than likely nothing to worry about they should treat abnormal bleeding as a priority.

I've lost a stone.. haven't started the pills yet.. I want to get a new GP and ask them about the pills as too many side effects. If polyps are related to BMI then I prefer to lose the weight to maintain endo thickness. Keep us posted!

@fuckmyuteruslining how are you getting on with the IF? I'm doing that as well - it certainly helps :-)

@PutThatDownNow - any news? A friend of mine has AVB and isn't being seen until 18th Sept by her GP! And she booked this a few weeks ago.

Talking of AVB.. just a few months ago and I was having a polyp removed, now tonight I've got friggin bleeding back again.. just a red stringy wipe but even so.. I mean, what the actual hell! As much as I know I should get this investigated, AGAIN, .. I'm really really tempted not to bother as I'm just sick of it. Polyp was removed, biopsy was clear... so what's the hell is going on. Argh!
