Would you say 5'8, 11st and a size 14/16 is big?

I'm 5'6 and just under 12 stone, a size 12-14
Don't consider myself big at all, I carry most of my weight around my thighs and still have a mum belly from my 2nd child being born a year ago. I look at myself as average, a healthy weight and more importantly, in a self positive way. If YOU are unhappy with your weight or appearance, do something about it, don't change yourself to satisfy other people if you're already happy.

Honestly? Yes I would. I’d look pretty fat at 11 stone.

I am the same height and weigh 10 stone. And I do not look particularly slim.

But everyone is different.

I'm 5 foot 10 and a half and weigh 10 stone 10. I'm a 12 at the moment but as soon as I gain weight and get to 11 stone I'm back in size 14s.
Fascinating how we're all so different.

Another one who's very surprised you're a size 16!

Im 5"8", 10st 8 and a size 10. In fact I'm even an 8 in some things.

Funny how people carry it so differently.

It's not just how tall you are. I have wide shoulders and back, long slim arms and legs. Don't go in much at the waist, or out at the front or bottom. When I'm underweight, my shoulders stick out like coat hangers and you could hang a hat on my hips. Not a good look, but I still can't get into anything under 12. I don't weigh myself, just pinch an inch. I think my basic frame weighs heavy because of the extra inches of bone. I'm 5' 6" and a half and vary between a 12 and a 14.

My friend is the same height but is 10st8 so only half a stone less than me , and she can squeeze into a 10! I've not worn a 10 since I was about to 16! I think 14 is my size and 16 depending on the shop and comfort. I've had 2 children my youngest is 9 months and I just cannot stand anything tight on my stomach so I find I go for bottoms that are comfy on my stomach but then they look too big on my legs.

No you are not overweight and you look amazing. Try and enjoy your life and not worry.

I'm a stone heavier, same height, try and love myself and eat healthily and I'm a 14 in most shops.

You look great! I'm the same height as you, currently weighing about 11st 10lb and generally wear a size 12. My measurements are the same as yours except that I have a 31 inch waist. That's probably what's making you buy a bigger size, especially if you don't want anything tight across your stomach. But I'd say you're not really a size 14/16 in the way most of us would think.

Surprised that you have a 33.5 inch waist and 41 inch hips though, from the photo your waist looks tiny compared to your hips!

Looking at your photo, you're taller than me but curvier round the thighs. Mine are longer and I currently need a 40" bra, never less than 38". B or C cup depending on whether I'm a 12 or 14. For a long time, I used to wear 30/32 men's Levis because women's made me look fatter. M&S Sienna are a perfect fit. The height/weight BMI measurement is v misleading for me. Was recently in hospital and was affronted to get a personal visit at my bedside from a nutritionist. She could see immediately that I didn't need to be on a diet!

The point is you look good and are a healthy weight - wear whatever size you are comfortable in . My daughter is a size 10 , practically all of her clothes are at least a 12 because she doesn’t like to be in fitted garments . I’m a 12/14 and am currently wearing a pair of size 16 shorts ( from when I was larger ) , I can pull them down without undoing the zip but I’m comfortable so who cares .

You look a 10 on top and a 12-14 around your hips. It looks like that’s where all your weight is. Your legs are slim as well. I’m totally differently shaped. I weigh between 12.7 and 13stone at 5ft 9.5 , weight fluctuates depending on time of the month and just carry it all over. Very straight waisted. Arms are a bit too flabby, thighs a bit too wobbly…12-14 jeans and 14 on top.

I find these threads so interesting. I'm 5ft 7 and when i was 11 stone i was wearing clothes that were 18 to 20. I'm now down to 8.5 Stone and I'm wearing 10 to 12 and they're not loose on me

Size 20?!? Within the healthy bmi parameters. How can that be?

Im also 5 feet 8. Im currently just a smidge under 9 stone and heavier than i normally am. Im a size 10. Im usually around the 8 and a half stone mark and an 8. At 40 weeks pregnant i was 11 stone.

@oldcatlady88 - You look great. Are you perhaps a size 16 in clothes from shops like Zara or H and M where the sizes are small? I can barely fit into size 14 jeans in H and M but M and S ones are too big.

How much and what kind of exercise do you do? Your weight is in the healthy range but you might not have much muscle mass which is making you bigger than you might expect. You look great in your photos and from your measurements I'd have thought you could fit in a 12/14, agree with a PP that it might just be the shops you buy from are 'young' shops with more traditional sizing rather than vanity sizing in places like M&S.

5ft 9 here and at 12 stone 4 I'm a size 12.
