Would you say 5'8, 11st and a size 14/16 is big?

Am same height and weight and am size 10 - just lost 2 stone with weight training and body fat is below 20% .. not sure if that makes any difference - I don’t think I look size 10 and still feel quite big but recent shopping trip proved I am size 10!!

gingersplodgecat · 22/06/2022 14:22

I'm that height and in an ideal world somewhere between 10.10 and 11.4 was the ideal weight for me. Everything looked in proportion.

Ah, the good old days before I hit the menopause and started mainlining chocolate.

bigbluebus · 22/06/2022 14:24

I'm 5ft 8 and for a long time weighed 11st 4 and have always been a size 12. Since lockdown/menopause I've put on nearly 1 stone and have just crept into a 14 but a 16 would absolutely swamp me.

PurpleDaisies · 22/06/2022 14:24

What’s your waist measurement? That’s important to think about.

Tigerpaws4 · 22/06/2022 14:36

No, although I think it has a lot to do with frame. I'm 5ft 8 and used to be 11st (and a size 10/12). It didn't really suit me as I'm small boned I think. I looked unwell under 9st, but am now 9st 7 and this is about right for me. It fascinates me how we are all so different.

ChangedMyNamrButStillMe · 22/06/2022 14:40

I’m 5’9” and when I was 11stone I was a size 16 and definitely wasn’t wearing clothes that were too big. I’m now 9stone3lbs and a size 10-12. People carry weight differently.

OP why does it matter whether other people think it’s big or not? Are you a size that you’re comfortable with?

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 22/06/2022 14:41

Another one surprised that you're a 16. I'm 5'9 and 13st 2. I'm a 16 on the bottom half, 14 on top. 11st is a pretty decent weight for me and well within normal BMI (10-10st7 is better but I haven't seen that since studenthood).

rooftopvilla · 22/06/2022 19:17

I think it depends how toned you are. I am 5 foot 11 and just under 11 stone. I am a size 12 to 14 because I have wobbly bits.

I know someone who is a little shorter than me, weighs the same and is a size 10 because she works out and has muscle.

Sortilege · 22/06/2022 19:18

rainbowandglitter · 22/06/2022 12:43

I'm 5ft 4 and just over 11 stone. I wear size 12. Are you sure your weight is correct?

Yes this is me too. It feels a bit hefty for me and I’m desperately trying to lose a stone or so.

wingingit33 · 23/06/2022 05:40

I'm 5'4 and 9st 3 though still have pregnancy weight to lose at 17 weeks postpartum - I was 11st 2 at 40 weeks. Currently in size 8/10.

doadeer · 23/06/2022 05:48

Another one who can't see this is a 16. I'm same height and to be a 16 I was 14.5 st.
Around 11st I'm a small 12.

Have you checked your measurements?

haveyouopenedyourbowelstoday · 23/06/2022 05:54

Interesting thread! I'm also 5ft 8'.
A year ago I weighed 17 stone 4lbs and was busting out of an 18.
I'm now 13 stone 8lbs and a comfortable 14.
I'd like to be 12 stone anything but at 52 know it'll come off my face and make me look older.

greenacrylicpaint · 23/06/2022 05:58

depends on where you carry the weight and how long your limbs are. and what brands you wear.
I'm 5.9 and around 11.5st.

I often wear size 16 tops as I have long arms. depends on the cut really. my clothes range from size 10-18 there is not much consistency in sizes between brands.

oldcatlady88 · 23/06/2022 09:30

My measurements are (just done them) 36" 33.5" and 41" x

MrsSkylerWhite · 23/06/2022 09:34

Clothes sizes mean absolutely nothing, I ignore them completely. I shop mostly in charity shops and if it looks like it will fit, it usually does, regardless of sizing which varies wildly.
do you feel comfortable with yourself? That’s probably your answer. Most people tend to know if they’re larger than they’re comfortable with.

ReeseWitherfork · 23/06/2022 09:34

oldcatlady88 · 22/06/2022 12:33

Would you say 5'8, 11st and a size 14/16 is big?

Not RTFT but after reading the first handful of comments (saying your dress size doesn’t make sense) I thought I’d pop on to say I’m the same height weight and dress size. I can get into a 12 if it’s supermarket clothes, they seem to be more generous. But anything high street and I’m at least a 14 if not a 16.

I feel a bit flabbier than I could be but I don’t think it’s “big”. I don’t feel overweight.

MrsSkylerWhite · 23/06/2022 09:34

(Physically comfortable, i mean. I know when I’m too big, can just feel it)

MrJi · 23/06/2022 09:40

I am this and a size 12.
i am pretty overweight though, as I have a small frame and I’ve gradually gone up from a size 6, due to a medical issue initially, then more recently going up from a 10 due to generally overeating and not doing enough due to grief.
I have friends who are bigger dress sizes but much slimmer than me, so it depends on your underlying frame and how muscular you are whether this is on the heavier side or completely fine. I am definitely fatter than I should be, but you may be a healthy size and weight.

imisswaitrose · 23/06/2022 09:51

It is interesting how people can be the same height and weight and have such variations in clothes sizes. I'm 5' 9 and weigh around 9st 2Ibs and I'm a size 12 for trousers and 10 for tops.

doadeer · 23/06/2022 14:14

oldcatlady88 · 23/06/2022 09:30

My measurements are (just done them) 36" 33.5" and 41" x

That's so curious. I weigh more than you, I'm 11st 6 ish but I am
36.5
29
37

I wear a 12 always I'm never normally any other size. I think if I went below 11st I would be a size 10.

Its so interesting where weight it held. I've always been heavy even when I was very slim I weighed quite a lot.

oldcatlady88 · 23/06/2022 15:14

It's so strange isn't it. To be a size 10-12 (which was many moods ago) I would need to be around 9st7

OP posts:
Portonic · 23/06/2022 15:34

I'm 5 feet 8 and a half..... and 11 stone 11. I am quite big- broad shouldered, sporty, muscular --and pear shaped. I'm a size 14.

JesusWearsPrada · 23/06/2022 15:43

Fascinating - I'm 5'8 but anything over 10.5 stone I feel I look overweight in my face/chins/belly as that's where I store fat.
I have really narrow hips and a boyish up & down figure, so to get any kind of boobs/bum I need to be over 10st but then have a gut and chins. Currently 9 stone 4 with no chins or gut but very little boobs/butt!
So unfair.

moofolk · 23/06/2022 15:51

I absolutely do not think that 11st is too much for someone 5'8"

There are other factors though, such as build etc. Some people are just bigger than others and that's fine.

I'm 5' 6" / 7" and a slight build so not much breadth to fill.

For me 11st is a bit too much weight although what I often weigh but still only a size 12

autismissues · 23/06/2022 15:55

I’m 5’9 and weigh 10 stone and I am a size 10 so if you are 11 stone are you definitely a 14/16 or do you prefer clothes to just be a little oversized ?
