Small 0.5mm lump under areola

emmajayn3 · 21/03/2021 15:12

I have been referred to the breast clinic on Thursday 1st April after I found a small hard lump next to nipple under areola which is not painful so that worries me.

I am 37 and not pregnant or feeding. My son is 8.

Two separate drs felt it and both said it was mobile (does not feel mobile to me) and not sinister and gave me option to wait a few weeks see if it goes or be referred. I asked to be referred as I found it after my period.

I had an ultrasound on the very same breast last August for a separate bit of tissue higher up on breast so hoping it is something very new and recent even if it’s bad.

I’m beyond worried and throwing up daily with fear. My husbands auntie died of secondary breast cancer last week so it’s been tough.

Any hand holders?

Sorry I meant 0.5cm (5mm)

Here to hold your hand @emmajayn3
I've been there myself with the referral and the wait. It's very hard and you can be told that statistically it's unlikely to be cancer, and you'll still worry.
I'm very sorry about your husband's auntie.
It's no wonder you're so anxious that you're throwing up Flowers
Try to remember what your doctors have said. It's highly likely that it will be ok, you are wise getting checked out promptly.
Very best wishes!

Thank you so much @Fnib you are most kind x c

How are you today @emmajayn3?
I think you would get more replies on the general health board.
Thinking of you Flowers

emmajayn3 · 22/03/2021 20:11

@Fnib you asking me how I am has made me tear up. None of my real life friends who know me and know my worries have so much as dropped me a text. You are so incredibly kind x

Hi @emmajayn3 I have an appointment at the clinic this Thursday and I too am beyond scared, I'm barely sleeping or eating because of it. I am 10 weeks pregnant and found a lump just over 3 weeks ago. The anxiety is something else and such a horrible feeling Sad

emmajayn3 · 23/03/2021 07:37

@Fawn68 oh darling here is a huge hug. Chances are it will be totally hormone related as our boobs do mega weird things when pregnant. X x what did your Dr say

Fnib · 23/03/2021 07:49

I had same with friends not checking in. One that I confided in dismissed my fears completely. I think she was trying to be reassuring but it felt like she thought I was making a fuss over nothing. Otherwise people just don't know what to say, I think.
I felt very alone.
I very much hope that it turns out to be hormone related or cysts, or thickened tissue, or any number of the benign things that it could be.
Thinking of you both, with a gentle reminder to make self care a priority at the moment, and sit with the panic when it washes over you. Those moments do pass. The waiting is the hardest part Flowers

Skyliner001 · 23/03/2021 07:59

You're amazing just to keep putting one foot in front of the other. I was in your position last Nov and nearly lost my mind so totally get it. Mine was a cyst 3inch by 2!! I'm only a 30e so you can imagine how big it was! Also threw up daily. Sending you so much hand holding. X

LadyEloise · 23/03/2021 08:56

I had what turned out to be just a fibroadenoma, a benign cyst.
Like you, I was terrified.
Hoping yours will turn out to be equally benign. Thanks

emmajayn3 · 23/03/2021 13:54

Thank you @Fnib I am trying to get myself right for the funeral tomorrow and it is another reminder that things are worrying right now.

May I ask what your diagnosis was? x

@skyliner001thank you that means a lot. I am only a 34b so not much to feel on me either

@LadyEloise thank you it means a lot having some reassurance

@emmajayn3 my doctor was confident it's a Fibroadenoma but no way of her knowing for sure and because I'm pregnant and can't wait for my next period she referred me. I am 32b so not much here either Confused this has been the scariest thing I've gone through health wise!

Fnib · 23/03/2021 14:27

@emmajayn3 it's actually happened twice. First time was fibroadenoma, and there was uncertainty about it as I bled heavily on having a biopsy (it wasn't painful at all so don't worry about that) so I needed a small piece cut out under general anaesthetic. I'm only telling you this as even if everything swings into action with biopsies and ultrasounds and mammogrammes, it doesn't mean that it's going to be cancerous. Mine wasn't. It just meant my wait to find out the good news was longer than it should have been. Second time, doctor referred me despite thinking it was probably ok, consultant (same one as several years earlier so I trusted him) said he thought probably nothing, but I had an ultrasound and mammogram anyway on same day and I went home happy. Several weeks later I got an unexpected appointment for an mri scan which alarmed me, but I was told it was just precautionary. That showed up something to do with the milk ducts thickening (lump was nearer the areola than the original one)
They were so kind. I got such excellent care and reassurance that I can go back again if I'm ever worried. I really hope you get similarly good care. I think you'll feel a lot better once you been seen.
What time is the funeral tomorrow? I will be thinking of you x

emmajayn3 · 23/03/2021 14:33

@fnib thank you that all sounds very reassuring the fact that even a biopsy does not mean the worst. It is 2pm tomorrow. Spending the day working and praying to get us through. You have been more of a friend to me than you will ever know. I feel so lucky. Thank you x

You're welcome. I understand the terror, and the not being heard when you try to talk about it, so I do try to be a friend to anybody going through it Flowers

Skyliner001 · 23/03/2021 14:54

No problem at all, please update us after your appointment!

Fawn68 · 23/03/2021 15:22

@emmajayn3 good luck please let us know how it goes! X

Petricor · 23/03/2021 15:29

I also had a small lump in my breast that didn’t seem mobile - the wait for the breast clinic appointment was awful! At the appointment they scanned it and took a biopsy, and they were sure it was a fibroadenoma but they can only call it that on the basis of the scan in women under 25. The biopsy came back as a fibroadenoma which is benign! I’m sure it will all turn out okay for you too. Do be prepared not to get a definite answer tomorrow though - having to wait for the biopsy result really spooked me as I wasn’t expecting it, but it was all okay in the end. Hand hold and flowers for you, and let us know how you get on Flowers

Petricor · 23/03/2021 15:31

Also try not to worry about potentially needing a biopsy - I was expecting it to really hurt, but the local anaesthetic needle stung a bit and that was honestly it. No pain during the biopsy, and although I know some women are really sore afterwards, it was honestly pretty much painless afterwards too, had a very occasional twinge but that was honestly it!

Fnib · 24/03/2021 15:44

Thinking of you today @emmajayn3 Hope funeral went OK.

emmajayn3 · 24/03/2021 20:51

@Fnib thank you so very much. It went beautifully and whilst it was sad the message and Christian led service was so lovely it was hard to feel doom and gloom. Thank you again for checking in that has really touched me. You are a lovely person.

Sorry I've only just seen this. I'm glad it went well. How are you feeling?
Thanks for saying that. It just made me a bit sad that you'd had no RL support.
