So this is a post of desperation. My Dd 5yo is awake screaming that her labia, vagina and whole general area are hurting. This is the 4th night in a row. She's actually had a really horrible virus so the last few nights she's been that unwell that she's fallen back asleep. However now she's feeling a bit better she is properly screaming the house down. There's nothing to see. I have checked and rechecked for worms. I'm alternating Calpol and ibuprofen anyway for her visits symptoms on doctors advice so can't go there. I've tried sudocrem, makes no difference. I googled and think it could be vaginosis maybe. Also found numerous other threads on other sites describing similar symptoms but no solutions given. I spoke to the pharmacist today and she said take her to the doctor next week, may need a swab. But what could this be and what can I do in the meantime?! She's so upset!

This was me as a child, I have an intolerance to anything other than water in baths. Bubble bath will make me scream like that. Try reducing chemicals when washing.

plightofthealbatross · 08/12/2019 00:35

Threadworms. They 'activate' at night. Pharmacist will prescribe pills for the whole family.

lilmishap · 08/12/2019 00:36

How is it when she wees, does it get worse?

KnitFastDieWarm · 08/12/2019 00:40

Poor little thing, probably a good idea to see the doc but as a temporary measure perhaps a bag of frozen peas or similar (wrapped in a towel) might be soothing? I’ve found that helps.

BusyBusyBea · 08/12/2019 00:41

Is she maybe just not wiping properly? My daughter has had this a few times since starting school I’ve had to make sure she’s wiping properly a few times now.

BusyBusyBea · 08/12/2019 00:42

When that happens it’s very red and inflamed and I find sudocreme will sooth it right enouhh

Indecisivelurcher · 08/12/2019 00:42

Not really affected by weeing. Total fail putting her back to bed. Have just given her some piriton and will be waiting outside boots at 9:59 in the morning for wormers. This is ridiculous.

Like PPs, pretty sure a dose of Ovex will sort it. And if it doesn’t at least you’ve definitely eliminated worms as a possibility. In our house, worming has always helped, even if there was no signs visible. Make sure the whole family takes the dose.

wherearemychickens · 08/12/2019 00:45

I would say threadworms too - sounds similar to when my DD had them, particularly if she's not bothered during the day. Always make sure we have Ovex in the house now!

NoSquirrels · 08/12/2019 00:45

And in the meantime, damp cool flannel to sleep with

Indecisivelurcher · 08/12/2019 00:46

It's worms!!!!! Ffs. So I got my phone torch and shone it right in there and saw one move. Mother fuckers. What can I do tonight?

My 5 yo dd complains of exactly this from time to time. It's quite upsetting. It can be red and a bit of sudocreme usually calms it down... we've never found out what it is!!! hope your little one sleeps well and is ok in the morning!!!

GallopingGreen · 08/12/2019 00:48

Cross post!! Straight to chemist in the morning!

MyDcAreMarvel · 08/12/2019 00:48

I would say worms, my dd was screaming in agony, her bottom did not hurt at all. I would buy ovex and I know it’s gross but put surgical tape over her anus and then tight knickers.

NotYourHolidayDick · 08/12/2019 00:49

Yep knew as much. 15 years of owning girls, and every single time without fail those little bastards have been behind vulva pain.
Warm bath, pants, cuddles, ovex. They bite in the vulva and that's what's causing the sharp pains 😢

MyDcAreMarvel · 08/12/2019 00:50

Cross post , your poor dd as I said tape , sellotape if that’s all you have and knickers as tight as possible.

Spacebowlisback · 08/12/2019 00:52

Could be a UTI. My DD has some of her highest temps and fevers (40) with hers.

plightofthealbatross · 08/12/2019 00:52

At least you know what it is and it can be treated easily.

When you clean everything tomorrow, include all surfaces she touches etc and scrub her fingernails. Eggs get under them ... fingers go in mouth ... worms. How it's spread in schools so easily, they all put their fingers in their mouths!

StoppinBy · 08/12/2019 00:52

Our daughter used to did this when she had worms, even if we didn't see one we would worm her and it would stop.

A bit TMI but when we did find worms they were inside her vagina and not around her bum where they would be expected to be.

managedmis · 08/12/2019 00:53

What the, what the fuck is this fresh hell? Worms in the vagina? On a 5 year old?

Spacebowlisback · 08/12/2019 00:53

Oh shit, sorry OP. Didn’t RTFT. Poor love.

StoppinBy · 08/12/2019 00:54

I see you found the worms - put her in the shower and clean her for tonight then straight on to the worm tablets first thing.

Blondebakingmumma · 08/12/2019 00:54

Put a cup of vinegar in her baths and cut down on soap for a week

MyDcAreMarvel · 08/12/2019 00:54

my Dh did go to an all night chemist as she was in so much pain if that’s an option. Having said that it took three days to work for my dd.

FoamingAtTheUterus · 08/12/2019 00:54

Is she on antibiotics ?? They can cause horrific thrush.......the yellow / banana one used to leave my DD red raw.
