So this is a post of desperation. My Dd 5yo is awake screaming that her labia, vagina and whole general area are hurting. This is the 4th night in a row. She's actually had a really horrible virus so the last few nights she's been that unwell that she's fallen back asleep. However now she's feeling a bit better she is properly screaming the house down. There's nothing to see. I have checked and rechecked for worms. I'm alternating Calpol and ibuprofen anyway for her visits symptoms on doctors advice so can't go there. I've tried sudocrem, makes no difference. I googled and think it could be vaginosis maybe. Also found numerous other threads on other sites describing similar symptoms but no solutions given. I spoke to the pharmacist today and she said take her to the doctor next week, may need a swab. But what could this be and what can I do in the meantime?! She's so upset!

Sorry didn’t see your last post. Eek!

StoppinBy · 08/12/2019 00:55

@managedmiss - it is very common for the worms to crawl up there once they come out of the anus at night.

MarthasGinYard · 08/12/2019 00:56

Really weird

Read exactly the same post last week

FoamingAtTheUterus · 08/12/2019 00:57

Oh just seen it's worms.......
I'm sure I read vaseline suffocates them. Poor thing :/

managedmis · 08/12/2019 00:57

Just googled. Who knew!

Could you go to a 24 hour chemist and buy some Ovex? Get the family box to treat all of you, and do it again in six weeks. Wash your towels and bedding in a hot wash and don't share towels - the buggers are really easily transferred.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 08/12/2019 01:02

Wow! I didn't know worms could get in the vagina too! I mean, no reason why they shouldn't, just never occurred to me!
Fuckers.
Angry

Hope the wormers fix the problem for her.

mathanxiety · 08/12/2019 01:04

So glad you found it!

Was going to post 'worms'..

You are going to have a busy day tomorrow Flowers.

Wash all bedding in a hot wash, hoover mattress and all carpeting. If you have non-carpeted floors, damp wash. Dry bedding in dryer or on the line followed by ironing.

Bathe DD, trim fingernails, use nail brush. Wash all towels and bath mat in a hot wash. Mop bathroom floor. Wash bathtub or shower floor.

Take all stuffed animals and doll clothing and either wash in a hot wash or place in your freezer for a few weeks. Damp clean plastic doll faces, hands.

Get Ovex, dose whole family. Ask pharmacist if the dose needs to be taken again in a week - the aim is to kill all stages of the life cycle; some have to be taken once for adult worms and then again for developing larvae. If you are pregnant, tell pharmacist.

Whole family needs to use nailbrush, and needs to be careful about placing used clothing, especially underwear, in laundry baskets, not throwing clothing on floors or furniture.

Everyone needs to be reminded about wiping properly, and washing hands every single time after using the loo, both at home and in school, and before eating. Also not touching itchy bums.

Cover her anus and vulva in a thick layer of vaseline - stops them moving.

mathanxiety · 08/12/2019 01:07

And get new toothbrushes for everyone. Keep them covered when not in use.

Bippety · 08/12/2019 01:08

Aw bless her, glad you found the cause though, as much as treating worms is a pain, she should be feeling much better very soon.

I am actually disturbed and terrified by worms though, like do they come out of the anus then and go back in afterwards? Absolutely horrific and not excited for all of this to come with DC wah.

Gemma2019 · 08/12/2019 01:08

Surprised that the pharmacist was useless and fobbed you off like that - so annoying as you could have treated DD this morning!

Bippety · 08/12/2019 01:09

@Gemma2019 me too, especially as numerous people up late on an internet forum managed to predict the cause!

Indecisivelurcher · 08/12/2019 01:14

Thank you everyone, mumsnet to the rescue - again! Tomorrow sounds like fun, if we make it thru the night, Dd is still up screaming poor thing... Am repeating motherfuckers on a loop in my head.

I don't suppose you are anywhere near East London? I've got some Ovex in my bag

Smotheroffive · 08/12/2019 01:22

Yes its as true as its horrific! I hadn't heard of this acute pain with it though.

I wouldn't put petroleum jelly anyway near vulval tissue though Confused. Ffs

Or soap!!!

MissPepper8 · 08/12/2019 01:22

Good god.. I have never heared of this before. Pray we never get them.

Sorry op your little girls in pain, might not be the same but was advised with thrush pain (joys of pregnancy) to use a shake of Sea salt or Epsom salt (even better) in baths and it really helps ease the pain.

Bi carb can help too but I haven't tried that but can guarantee sea salt has helped as far as itching and pain relief.

Hidingtonothing · 08/12/2019 01:24

Did you see the Vaseline tip littlecabbage posted OP? Should stop them moving (and therefore biting) so she can sleep.

Indecisivelurcher · 08/12/2019 01:24

Lol @gemma that's massively kind. Almost worth the 2.5hr drive 😉

OP posts:
Indecisivelurcher · 08/12/2019 01:26

I've put some vasaline on (desperate measures) and could be a coincidence, but Dd's dropped off to sleep. Thank goodness. I'm off to bed, but foolishly rang 111 earlier so sods law means they will ring me back as soon as I drop off 😉 Thank you all.

Smotheroffive · 08/12/2019 01:27

I would pop her in a shallow bath. I've also heard of a repellant but can't for the life of me think what it is.

Oh! Yes, drinking plenty and garlic, also something you can apply but can't think of it. Look it up

managedmis · 08/12/2019 01:28

Hope she's better soon, lurcher

ferrier · 08/12/2019 01:30

Do you have any friends with kids who might have some Ovex? Who have their message notifications on silent so you don't actually wake them up. I'd willingly give you mine if you were closer. Agree with the warm bath followed by vaseline.

VenusTiger · 08/12/2019 01:30

@Indecisivelurcher it could be thrush - does she wear pjs or underwear in bed and it’s making her hot and causing the possible thrush to be more painful?
My DS is six and has had a bout of thrush type thing caused by pencilin - has she had that for her virus? It gives me thrush too Sad.
I got cream for my DS (which he hated Sad) but it sounds like this to me OP.
