Does this mean she thinks I have ovarian cancer
Because that's what I think Sad

Possibly, but the symptoms of OC are similar to those of several other issues as well. I had the test last week, and the score was indeed elevated, but there can be all kinds of reasons for that (in my case, it's probably to do with fibroids). I read that only 3% of women who have the test actually have OC.

MozzchopsThirty · 17/08/2018 13:59

It's making me very anxious
And I'm going on holiday next week
I don't know whether to push for a scan before I go

@NameChangedAgain18 what symptoms have you had?
What is next for you?

I had a scan brought forward on the basis of the readings from my blood test. When are you having the CA125 test? I had the results from the blood test the following day, and the scan a week later.

My symptoms are bloating, digestive issues, abdominal pain and bladder weakness. It looks like it's a uterus full of fibroids that's causing the issues. The external ultrasound showed that there were so many of them and my uterus is so enlarged that they said there was no point trying to do an internal ultrasound. I'm seeing a gynaecologist next month.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 17/08/2018 15:11

I have just had investigations for ovarian cancer (thankfully negative ultimately). The gynaecological oncologist I saw explained it to me as a marker of ovarian/peritoneal inflammation. So a raised level is usually (but not always) found with ovarian cancer, but also with lots of other gynaecological conditons. Although I was showing with lots of OC markers, including a raised CA125 level, it turns out I have bilateral endometriomas.

In my case I was contacted directly re raised CA125, and my scan brought forwards.

MozzchopsThirty · 17/08/2018 19:02

I'm having the blood test on Wednesday but I go on holiday Saturday so will panic for a week about it

I spoke to my gp again she said it's routine to test for Ca125 if you have symptoms of abdo pain & bloating

@TheTurnOfTheScrew I'm glad you had somewhat better news after your test results although fibroids sounds rough

Hi OP I have the same blood test booked for Monday, it’s worrying but at aleast it’s being dealt with ifyswim

MozzchopsThirty · 18/08/2018 11:17

@Smellbellina shall we do some hand holding this week 😊

I wish you both the best of luck. When I was going through investigations I found the MN Cancer Support Thread in General Health a brilliant place for support and advice. They're a fantastic and knowledgeable bunch of posters, and people going through testing are welcome.

Smellbellina · 18/08/2018 13:13

Sounds good @MozzchopsThirty 🙂

FluttershyStare · 18/08/2018 13:17

I had this when I went for pains in my side, which turned out to be ovarian cysts. I think it's more a protocol to have it checked rather than thinking anything definitive

FluttershyStare · 18/08/2018 13:19

Ah, mozzchops got there first

Good luck in any case xx

TwitterQueen1 · 18/08/2018 17:29

As Screw says, a raised CA125 does not mean OC, it's a marker for inflammation, so it could be all kinds of things.

My GP rang me the morning after my blood test to let me know my CA125 was waaaaaay to high. If you don't hear anything immediately I would go on holiday OP. They;re not going to fit in an ultrasound immediately - I think I still had to wait 10 days or so.

The cancer support thread for those being tested for cancer or who have it already is here.

Or you can ask me - happy to help, unhappily dx with stage 4 OC March 2017.

MozzchopsThirty · 19/08/2018 11:14

@TwitterQueen1 I'm so sorry for your diagnosis
How are you?? Thanks

Better than expected is the honest answer! Chemo, op, chemo then more chemo this year. I responded very well to the last lot so I've been given a few months off for good behaviour Wink. Hopefully you won't need any more details of all that.

I've got 2 threads on my whole OC journey pt 1 here and pt 2 here if you want more info on my personal experiences.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 19/08/2018 13:25

Lovely to hear of your Chemo Parole, TQ. Sending you good wishes Flowers.

TwitterQueen1 · 19/08/2018 13:40

Thanks Screw! glad to hear all is well with you. Smile

MozzchopsThirty · 19/08/2018 14:45

I will have a read of your threads and come back
But bloody hell woman that's a lot of shit to wade through xxxxx (very un MN kisses)

Scornedwoman67 · 21/08/2018 14:39

Another one to reassure you - I had raised CA125 & it was caused by endometriosis. So not necessarily anything really sinister. Fingers crossed for you. x

MozzchopsThirty · 21/08/2018 18:33

Thank you
I had my blood test this morning

OP posts:
MozzchopsThirty · 22/08/2018 09:04

@Smellbellina have you had your results yet?

OP posts:
MozzchopsThirty · 22/08/2018 16:49

I've just had my ca125
It's almost double normal limits

OP posts:
theboxofdelights · 22/08/2018 17:04

I had a CA125 result of 100. It too long ago, it was a huge fibroid.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 22/08/2018 18:05

Hey Mozzchops. Please don't forget that raised CA125 can be caused by all sorts of things. Mine is consistently in the 70s and although I've got severe endometriosis an MRI has ruled out cancer. When I got my first CA125 results I was advised my pelvic ultrasound scan would be brought forward, but I think it was still about 10-14 days to wait. The wait is awful though. Sending good wishes.
