Do not read this thread if you don't want spoilers relating to Fourth Wing, Iron Flame and/or Onyx Storm!!!

This should be long enough I'm hoping to hide any spoilers from anyone who accidentally clicks through!

Nothing to add to these but I actually rate that theory about Violet being more than a dream walker- she really was manipulating people's thoughts!

Currently reading (or trying to read) Crescent City. I enjoyed ACOTAR, LOVED TOG but am really struggling with this one.

44PumpLane · 13/02/2025 20:34

Yes, now I've read the theory about her being more than a dream walker it really makes sense!

I've listened to most of the well known fantasy romance books (developed a bit of a habit!). I'd recommend Quicksilver if anyone hasn't read it.

WilderHawthorn · 13/02/2025 21:34

@Arraminta it's an incredibly slow burn, but absolutely amazing once you get into it. Probably my top 3 books of all time!

If you like Fourth Wing and prefer ACOTAR to be a bit darker/more gritty, I HIGHLY recommend 'Blood & Steel' by Helen Scheuerer - it's the start of a 4 book series 'The Legends of Thezmarr', there's a very Ridoc type character and the female lead is ballsy and direct. You'll see my username inspo Wink

@phlossy If the last part of my directions needs to be broken down just shout.....I've just realized I've made the assumption you know what I mean by drag and drop into the Kindle folder location!

Haha thank you I think it makes sense I'll try it tomorrow

Thank you 🙏

Thank you. I am struggling so, so much. I hate it when a book traps me like this. Such a shame as I love the page design.

Moorfellduck · 14/02/2025 22:44

I loved the first two books. I'm on Chapter 10 listening to the audiobook- and I'm really struggling.

There are way too many characters and I'm finding it hard to follow the plot. Does it get any easier? I'm not very sure what is going on or whether I actually care!

readingmakesmehappy · 16/02/2025 18:29

I'm with @RhaenysRocks on this way. Way too many characters, way too long, way too repetitive. The quest to find out more about Andarna should have been the book - that was the only strand I found remotely interesting anyway!
The final Harry Potter books were way too long, as if her editor was too scared to tell her to tighten it up, and Yarros's editor has gone similarly AWOL.

Given this is a spoiler thread, can people spell out the theories they're talking about? I'm not on TikTok.

Okay so several theories about who the "brother" is that Xaden is referring to right at the end of Onyx Storm ie. Who is the other man that turned Venin as well as Xaden

  1. Brennan has turned Venin - someone explained this further up thread, reference to "another sibling" to use against violet
  2. Bhodi has turned Venin - he's seen retching in the Imogen pov chapter, could that be because he's just channeled from the earth and is sick he's now turned Venin. He's spent the whole time saying he won't take over the throne from Xaden and that he will stick with Xaden no matter what, so has he turned Venin to stick with Xaden?
  3. Aaric has turned Venin- he has the gift of true foresight, so has he seen that the only way to defeat the Venin is from within, thus he has allowed himself to turn Venin having seen the outcome of that choice in terms of the war against the Venin. Also he was the one who was adamant that the temple of Dunne be saved and Xaden noted the Priestess at the Temple owed him a favour- so has Aaric ensured that there would be someone and somewhere that would allow Xaden and Violet to marry for a variety of theorised reasons.
  4. Garrick has turned Venin- he was practically killing himself with his distance walking thing, popping up here there and everywhere, has he ended up drawing from the Earth as otherwise he would have been unable to save everyone he needed to due to his burnout- he's like a brother to Xaden already
  5. Is Naolin actually a Venin, ie he didn't die saving Brennan's life 6 years ago, he drew from the Earth and turned Venin which is why Tairn doesn't speak of what happened (it doesn't explicitly say he is dead, it's all like "he's lost" etc)

The above are just some examples of the "who's the brother" theories going round.

I finished it a couple of weeks ago.

I don't think there was as much sex in this one but you notice it because it's all a bit boring and samey and cringey. I just skip over them scenes.

I like these books in the moment, but they're instantly forgettable.

My only remaining thought is what is the broken compass she received as a gift for? I think it'll be very important somehow, but am not invested enough to come up with theories 😂

Notmydaughteryoubitch · 23/02/2025 22:33

@Arraminta - you have to give when the moon hatched about 4 or 5 chapters - the first few are dreadful but it does pick up the pace and is pretty fun once it gets going.

Thank you, I read about 35% of it but DNF. It's incredibly rare for me to DNF but I had to with this one.

So far, I have only ever DNF one book and it’s called The Book That Wouldn’t Burn. I’ll try again at some point I guess, but it was so hard. I managed halfway before I gave up

I think this is only the 2nd or 3rd book I have ever DNF? I just don't think I can go back to it? It also irritated me how the author had listed in the glossary over a dozen things in the book that could be 'potentially triggering' and I just thought Oh do fuck off sweetheart!

I think the compass will lead Vi back to Xaden so she can find him in the future!

I'm also pleased to hear RY has no plans to kill off Broccoli the cat! 🤣
