Day of the Jackal. Detailed and compelling from the off. One of the best thrillers ever written. Fully deserves its classic status.

My most recent thriller discoveries have been Joel Dicker, a Swiss author who writes about the USA, and Chris Hammer, who is Australian. Not a dud between them!

Linwood Barclay ... Most of his are great, fast paced page turners.

Erin Kelly ... totally agree about the Burning Air, what a twist, I had to go back and re read as I couldn't believe it.

Mo Hayder ... the Jack Caffrey series but these are pretty gory too, read them in order.

Harlen Coben.

Lisa Jewel ... some of her later releases are good thrillers.

Helen Callaghan ... Dear Amy.

Jo Nesbo ... the Harry Hole series.

Just finished Heatwave. Totally loved it and feeling a little lost looking for my next read. Thank you for recommending this one.

I read Blood Orange & The kind worth killing some time ago and liked these also. Looking for my next summer read now.

Yes the burning air twist is fantastic. I've read all her books.

The Secret History by Donna Tartt

We Begin At The End, Chris Whitaker. I read a lot of thrillers but this one really stood out.
For thrillers with a slightly supernatural twist I recommend John Connolly’s Charlie Parker series.
Agree with suggestion of Mark Billingham, apart from Rabbit Hole, which is just rubbish. Luckily it’s a stand alone and not in the Tom Thorne series.

John marrs all the way!

I read Missing, Presumed by Susie Steiner recently, I hadn't heard of her before; I thought it was pretty good and liked her detective character. Soon afterwards I was very sorry to learn that she had just died from cancer, she was only in her 50s, I think. I just got the second novel in the series, Persons Unknown, on my Kindle app for a holiday.

Yes I was very shocked to learn this when I heard.

Just read The Burning Air and I literally gasped out loud at the big twist! Amazing, did not see it coming at all. SUCH a well written book, I absolutely loved it.

BCBird · 29/08/2022 21:35

I came across B A Paris by accident and enjoyed her books. Thrillers are not a genre I usually read

Any of the Inspector Wallender series by Henning Mankell. My favourite so far is Side Tracked and I'm currently reading the Troubled Man.

The Dry Jane Harper

Gubu · 30/08/2022 22:25

Place marking for when I've finished the latest Strike.

And to echo above, love Tana French's books.
