I am such a sloooooooow loser and peri menopause has pretty much killed it off. If I am left to my own devices I naturally eat exactly my maintenance calories, and to undercut by 500 a day feels like such a hardship. I exercise regularly, get my steps, cook from scratch and it’s not enough any more.

please don’t suggest weight loss meds. I’m not eligible and I couldn’t afford them anyway.

my strategy is 1500 cals a day, good quality food with as little UPF and sugar as possible, increase veg intake, get an extra walk in after dinner, and reduce my alcohol intake. It’s all very simple stuff really. A half pound a week will add up to 21lbs by the time I go on holiday next summer 👙

anyone else feel the same?

Morning all!

Monday weigh in for me - 10st13. I’m dead pleased with this as 11st has been my demon for months. I get to 10.13 by Thursday but then relax over the weekend and put it back on. This is the first time in ages I’ve been under 11 on a Monday.

@thenewaveragebear1983 I love the thought that today is a new week and tomorrow’s new month. I often feel this time of year is my true new year. Kids go back to school, harvest is gathered in safely and next years crop is being planted.

I’m going to spend today organising my fresh start. Rewriting goals, doing a food shop. Bit of sorting in the house etc.

Food will be:
B- smoothie
L- avocado salad
Tea - out to a new pub. Not going to hold back but not be silly either. Will skip the starter and see how I feel about pud.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 31/08/2026 07:07

@WhitegreeNcandle I love that, and I feel the same. I like that feeling that the season is changing, the mornings just feel a touch autumnal and there’s something about the light this time of year.

we drank a lot last night and ate chocolate with the dc and watched Jurassic world, so my calories were off the scale! I haven’t weighed yet but I’m fairly confident I will not have lost this week 🤣 today I have my niece’s birthday but otherwise no plans, my legs are tired from running and I have bootcamp at 5pm. For food I am going to hold out til breakfast as long as I can, then I have leftover cold chicken with salad. Dh is doing pasta, pesto and prawns tonight. No alcohol or rubbish today even though it’s bank holiday. Long dog walk.

I need to take my own advice now and be happy with a half pound loss and get my head back in the game. I am the queen of self sabotage but I have to make myself see the end goal on this. I was looking at myself yesterday and basically thinking next summer I could be a stone lighter or a stone heavier. It’s my choice 🤷‍♀️

morning all. Jurassic works and chocolate sounds good to me! @thenewaveragebear1983 .

I caved and weighed in this morning. I’m two pounds down but doubt that is ‘real’ so to speak as I had a late lunch around 4 pm and no dinner so had a very empty stomach at that point! Still I’ll take it. I’ve just had granary toast with sliced tomatoes, cucumbers and radishes for breakfast plus half a banana and two dates. Dinner will be tofu stir fry. I might make up a split pea soup as well.

hope everyone has a good day.

Harrysmummy246 · 31/08/2026 10:22

I weighed this morning and am about where I was before the summer holiday trips/ family time/wine/trifle/pizza explosion

Have slept in this morning and just waiting to see if DH can face helping persuade DS out in the rain to go for brunch together with the dog once he's cycled back from his gym class.

I'll be doing weights and a short steady row later.

I currently am not going to track as I don't consistently do it, then consider it a failure then throw in the towel, on repeat.
I'll be attempting to have better options easily available for breakfast and lunch then normal family dinners. Consistent run of exercise, and get back into the garden to sort it out. Full waterproofs are going to feature heavily now. It's one thing doing someone else's as they're paying me, but my own 😱

socks1107 · 31/08/2026 10:32

I am 2lbs down today. Now I know that is because I drank wine and am dehydrated but it takes me 200grams from goal so I’m not weighing again until after holiday and will just enjoy that number 🤣

Gettingbysomehow · 31/08/2026 10:39

I lost 6 stone very slowly 1 to 2 pounds a week max. I could not lose any quicker than that no matter how many calories I ate or didnt eat and I was on mounjaro.
Im 64 and I think my metabolism isnt what it was. I keep it off by never eating processed food and doing weights and swimming 3 to 4 times a week. It was really hard work but I got there. Just keep going. Dont give up.

Not eating UPF is absolutely key IMO. If you are eating simple home cooked food you wont overeat because its not particularly moreish. It just satiates hunger. Stop when you are full.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 31/08/2026 19:02

@Gettingbysomehow I half agree but it is definitely possible to overeat simple home cooked food. I cook every single meal from scratch but I can still overeat. It’s harder to count the calories in home cooked food portions as well I find. For me the key is not eating when I’m not hungry but that is not always simple either.

I weighed in plus 2lb today but that’s fully deserved as we had a lot of wine and chocolate yesterday. Starting weight 11.8lb. I’m very determined for September though and feeling motivated

WhitegreeNcandle · 01/09/2026 07:17

Come on September!!!

Morning all. Here we go, new month, positive times!

B - fruit. Nothing else in the house. Annoyed at myself for forgetting to amend my Tesco order last night and I now have a dozen bottles of wine coming this morning!

lunch - ham rolls

tea - halloumi burgers and salad

Have a good day all!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 01/09/2026 19:01

Tuesday is always my office day and is always a long and tricky day, with lots of meetings and commute, I end up starving hungry and dehydrated. I did eat a piece of cheese after work and had a big bottle of water. I’m waiting on Tesco to bring my order but I have no idea what I planned for tonight so it will be a mystery depending on the use by dates! I’ve also done no exercise at all and barely 5k steps!

OP posts:
WhitegreeNcandle · 02/09/2026 06:43

What ended up for tea @thenewaveragebear1983 ? I had a Tesco delivery yesterday - had forgotten to edit my holding order so 12 bottles of wine turned up! Great when I’ve just started sober September! Luckily they were great and took it back.

i felt horribly bloated and headachey yesterday. Not sure why as didn’t eat badly the day before or drink anything. Has anyone ever done Zoe? On one hand I think that’s a lot of time and effort but on the other DH and I sleep a good 8 hrs a night but are still tired!

Today’s meals:
B: Greek yoghurt, chia seeds, flax seeds and blueberries
L : we get fed at DS’s school today for new kids day
T : maybe lamb kebabs from the freezer. Depends a bit of the day as we also get an afternoon tea!

Have a good day all

thenewaveragebear1983 · 02/09/2026 06:58

@WhitegreeNcandle I ended up having a frozen portion of chilli with tzatziki and cheese, and a bowl of strawberries with a drizzle of Nutella! I signed up to Zoe a few months back, i actually liked it and for 2 weeks felt good on it but I hated the app, it was really clunky and the ai tracker was dreadful so I was constantly having to manually add things and it was almost impossible to track calories on. I also thought it was incredibly expensive compared to other tracking apps. My friend had a variety of inflammatory conditions and had great results with it though, although signed up for a year and I don’t think she is still using it. What I tend to do now is each week I email my nutracheck report to myself at work and then get copilot to review my diary, it will say how many plants I’ve eaten and analyse my week as a whole, and make suggestions for the next week.

woke up to a beautiful pink sunrise although it’s currently grey and drizzly. This morning I will walk the dog, then I’m wfh so will have breakfast when I get hungry (porridge with chia, and stewed damsons). Lunch will be salad and a frozen portion of something (trying to use my freezer up a bit) and then dinner will be a Schwartz mix with chicken and veg (I quite like them when I am decision fatigued as I try things I wouldn’t normally have). It’s back to football season now so tonight both ds have training, I am going to take the younger one and go for a run while he trains. Weds used to be my bootcamp night but looks like training is now Weds so I’ll have to change my whole workout schedule for this season (ffs 🙄)

OP posts:
thenewaveragebear1983 · 02/09/2026 21:27

Oh so annoying, I ended up going for a run while ds was at football, then my older son was playing a match in the next field so we went to watch, didn’t get home til 8. Decided to have a quick pasta and pesto with prawns, didn’t check the calories until afterwards- well lesson learned, the pesto alone was over 400 calories! 😱 so I’m ending the day on 1800. I did run 5km after work and walk the dog but probably only broke even.

I also really need to eat more protein, I had just 60g today, no wonder I am hungry. Unfortunately by having porridge for breakfast I just am not getting the protein I need early in the day.

OP posts:
Harrysmummy246 · 02/09/2026 21:29

well, training didn't happen today as I ended up making a trip to IKEA then in the deep and unsatisfying depths of row-min since cooking dinner (I coach as well and it's a new season etc)
Food was, ummm , yes, eaten
Gardening in the rain for a couple of hours too

thenewaveragebear1983 · 03/09/2026 17:55

@Harrysmummy246we all have days like that, I’d love an Ikea I could pop to though, ours is an hour away on motorways and just not worth it. I make do with b&m and the habitat section in Sainsbury’s!

today I worked my day around protein. My breakfast was a measley 10g which considering I had Greek yoghurt and chia I thought it would be higher but 🤷‍♀️ so that shocked me into thinking ‘protein first’ when planning the rest. Interesting though, I am a lot less hungry today and I managed to fit everything comfortably in my cals, I haven’t eaten my snack yet either so tonight I can have sugar snaps and houmous if I feel like it. Assuming I eat it all, I will end the day on 1480 cals and 110 G protein so that is great. Yesterday I was only 60g.

I walked the dog and also went for a run at lunch, but it was really hard work and I walked a bit. I’m trying to hit 15k steps each day in September so after dinner I will go out for another little walk. I want to make the most of the nice weather before it goes. Dinner is pork steaks which have been in curry powder and yoghurt all day.

I didn't understand mil excitement that we live so close to an IKEA because I grew up in Warrington where the first UK IKEA was.... (And is Still the store we can pop to)
Anyway, more gardening, did my accounts and off to pilates now. Paid work gardening tomorrow then try and fit the rowing machine test that I keep bot getting round to in....

Harrysmummy246 · 03/09/2026 19:09

I never talk about the food I'm eating do I

This is..... Possibly a clue

But, did get notified I'm nearly at top of ADHD med waiting list today. This might help

thenewaveragebear1983 · 03/09/2026 19:52

I always use these threads as a sort of confessional 🤣 forgive me, for I have sinned…. Although actually today I haven’t, I’ve been an absolute angel 😇

walked 5km in the end with muttly which means I’m on 20k steps today. I changed my nutracheck diary to separate out the exercise cals so hoping I won’t feel I can eat them back. Going to plan my menu for tomorrow and focus on my protein again, that’s helped me today

OP posts:
WhitegreeNcandle · 04/09/2026 06:50

wow, that’s good going on the protein @thenewaveragebear1983 I really feel better when I do that.

I haven’t had the greatest week. Had a really long day on Wednesday resulting in a Budgens stop on the way home for crisps and toffee. Felt pants the next day. Haven’t been able to fit in my normal exercise and have crept over the 11st again. I really struggle when I’m tired. I need to put some snack packs in the car of nuts and dried fruit for times like that.

Today’s plan is do a weights session this morning. Then a walk with DD and a friend. Need to do a meal plan and shop for the weekend.

Trying to fast on Fridays for spiritual reasons. Last week I managed till lunchtime but then the treat food came out as a reward. So today’s aim is to get to lunchtime, then to eat simple food.

Have a good day all

Popping back on, lovely to see so many here! My very slow weight loss continues. I’ve started a new job and been walking less so really need to exercise more. I feel pretty tired in the evenings so I’m a bit stumped with what to do, and know at 55 I should be looking at some strength training? Weights? Any ideas?! I need something simple! I get at least an hour of walking in 3 days a week. Food wise, I’ve stopped eating breakfast and only eat between 12 and 8 each day. Very rarely have bread, cakes, sugary stuff - a treat once/ twice a week, I’ve been doing Hello fresh every evening for the last 2 weeks ( choosing the low cal vegetarian or fish meals) and surprisingly have still lost 2 pounds. Have about 8 pounds to lose to get my bmi to the healthy range and ideally would like to lose a stone. My appetite has definitely adjusted over the last few weeks, I don’t feel I need to eat as much as I used to. And I drink loads more water!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 04/09/2026 08:25

i have done my first official weigh in today and….. I have lost 2lbs! ( I did gain 2lbs last week so it’s not a huge success, but even so, I will take that) I’ve planned my menu again around my protein intake, it interesting to look at how much is actually in things. I mean, tuna is 25% protein, Greek yoghurt which everyone says is “full of protein” is about 6%. I’m trying to do it without shakes or desserts but you can see why people do it because for the calories you get a decent chunk of protein. Things like houmous and cheese do have some, but not loads. It must be hard if you’re vegan or veggie.

very wet dog walk this morning, but weirdly mild and sweaty under my coat. I am planning a busy weekend, I am trying to tick one job off my list every weekend so this one is painting my back door (sand, prime, paint) , plus I could do with doing a longer run and some general housework.

Good morning slow losers! Had a great nights sleep and feel very enthused for the day ahead. I’m going to run this morning, then jobs. Plus Make some soup and some baked oats.

have a great weekend!

I had a mini pig out last night. On the upside it was a medium size bar of Tony’s chocoloney not the massive one and popcorn.

Im tired, not drinking and just seem to have no willpower!

trying to get back on it today

WhitegreeNcandle · 06/09/2026 08:27

And another pig out last night as avoiding the wine. So I’m going to try the Zoe app this week to see if it helps

how is everyone else getting on?

Harrysmummy246 · 06/09/2026 11:59

Didn't have any wine last night, did at least walk the dog and then trained at the rowing club this morning. Yes, I had toast afterwards but this is about building a squad at the club so is a bigger picture type thing. Felt good during the session.
Dinner tonight TBC but lunch will be a sandwich of some sort.
Now need to sort out some clear messaging on coaching for the squad and how things are going to go moving forwards.
