I am such a sloooooooow loser and peri menopause has pretty much killed it off. If I am left to my own devices I naturally eat exactly my maintenance calories, and to undercut by 500 a day feels like such a hardship. I exercise regularly, get my steps, cook from scratch and it’s not enough any more.

please don’t suggest weight loss meds. I’m not eligible and I couldn’t afford them anyway.

my strategy is 1500 cals a day, good quality food with as little UPF and sugar as possible, increase veg intake, get an extra walk in after dinner, and reduce my alcohol intake. It’s all very simple stuff really. A half pound a week will add up to 21lbs by the time I go on holiday next summer 👙

anyone else feel the same?

Joining as well. Lost a stone early summer; holidayed abroad - put it all back on. Time to get myself in order again. This week, I've done my 10k steps each day and am trying to keep calories under 1250/day via MFP. Only 5ft2 and in my 60s and finding losing weight very hard. Am thinking of signing up to a weight training beginner course.

Don’t think of it as a regain; but as a good start. You could be 2 stone over now if you hadn’t lost it before your holiday. I wish I had lost a stone before ours! Plus it shows how capable you are of losing it in the first place! Solidarity 💪

I’m definitely interested in starting weights too but need to get my general fitness levels up first post-accident. I think a course is a good idea for starters to form good habits from the offset. GL!

Morning all,

I weighed in today- 12 stone 6 pounds. I'm going to weigh about 10 days i think.

Yesterday.

weetabix with oatmilk, strawberries, blueberries, cinammon and banana.

Lunch- vegan minestrone soup with a slice of rye bread

Dinner- tofu ramen with lots of vegetables.

Harrysmummy246 · 26/08/2026 14:48

44, probably peri, more kgs than I want to admit with BMI 28-29.
I am away with ds til Friday so not really doing much right with my eating but we are walking a lot round Cambridge and then as of next week, my friends cake, butter and custard creams will be on holiday. I'll also properly re start rowing training with focus on lots of volume- that's always helped in the past. I need to lose 3kg to be back within my boat's designed range and we are visiting FIL in Barbados for Xmas so that's an incentive.
I need to lose 10kg to be in a good place really, which works out about 1.5 stone 😱

Currently also wrangling as yet unmedicated ADHD - probably at least 3 more months before that is even likely to change but I'm hoping that will help with the dopamine seeking snacking
ETA: oh gods I just converted the kgs to stone 14 bloody stone 😱

I have been so tired today, a combination of returning to work and not getting to bed early enough. I love the summer holidays but i’m ready for the kids to go back now and get some routine. As a result I ended up eating not what I had planned, I had a wrap for breakfast and nowhere near enough veg, then more sugary carbs at dinner (made a chicken pie but wasn’t going to have the puff pastry, but in the end i did). Went to bootcamp after work but we called off after 20 minutes because we had torrential rain and thunder and lightning right above us. Came home freezing cold and soaking wet 💦- so all in all, not an ideal outcome.

At least I know what I need to do tomorrow- more veg, much less bread and rubbish carbs. And try to get a run in at lunchtime as I haven’t run yet this week.

I can really resonate with this, I have about 2 stone to lose, I also have lost half a stone before then seem to relax and it goes back on so I am determined this has to be slow and steady this time, I started at 13st 8 and now at 12.12, I am happy with just losing half a pound or so a week and it taking a while, sadly I dont think its a diet really I just need to start eating like this long term as I only seem to look at a cake and the weight jumps back on these days.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/08/2026 07:11

@Petsgalore I think for me it’s because the sheer effort to lose fractions of pounds is so much that after a while I just get bored. It’s much more motivating to continue when it’s showing in the scales , I don’t care what anyone says about other benefits. I am out on Saturday to see an old uni friend for food and drinks and I just know that will undo weeks of dieting 🤷‍♀️ god it’s so depressing.

@bananaapplepears I have done low calorie fasting (eg fast800 ) in the past and actually had really good results - lost 3 stone of baby weight in 2018 really successfully and to be fair I did keep it off until about 2023/24 when Peri struck me down. These days I just cannot function on 800 calories. Time restricted eating (eg eating late finish early etc) does still work but if I try to skip meals, after 3 days I’m just ravenous. Plus I’m trying to exercise, I can’t run well if I’ve had hugely reduced calories, and I’m trying to build muscle. It’s actually a really delicate balancing act isn’t it, eating enough to actually sustain yourself but getting a small consistent deficit enough to lose weight. Hence the fact that I think half a pound a week is actually a realistic goal.

Welcome @Petsgalore @thenewaveragebear1983 i am so ready for the kids to be back at school too. I miss routine and plans! Both mine start senior school in September at new schools so we have stuff everywhere round the house too and lists coming out of my ears.

@Harrysmummy246 cambridge is a lovely place to spend a few days. Welcome too.

@Shavedfennel56789 i love the idea of thinking positively about the holiday stone!

so I weighed in this morning at 10.13. My aim is to be 10st 2. I’d settle at 10st 7 though. Realistically at half a pound per week I could be there by Christmas.

Yesterdays food for me:
b - Greek yoghurt with flax seeds, chia seeds and raspberries
L - a bit of leftover salad from two days ago, a cheese roll, cucumber sticks and plums.
t - poke bowl. Spinach, brown rice, sweet chilli sauce, tom, cu, pepper, edamame, avocado and chicken with crispy onions on top. More plums

evening snack. I went for the cheese. I just can’t resist the home grown cherry tomatoes with cheese. Followed by a slice of lime traybake. This is the bit I need to cut out.

Aiming to do a weights session this morning. Was supposed to be a run but hallelujah the heavens have opened and we have torrential rain!!!

socks1107 · 27/08/2026 07:19

Morning all, Tuesday I ate 300 calories more which will mean no loss for me sadly. I’ll weigh this morning but doubt it will be good. Out the next two weekends, then a holiday so by end of September I’ll be about three months from goal with 3/4lbs to loose 🤦🏻‍♀️

Harrysmummy246 · 27/08/2026 10:29

Hotel breakfast heavy in protein has been a reminder that it really helps with not snacking later in the day. Doesn't mean my eating is perfect this week but helpful reminder.
12k steps yesterday. Probably less today as it's currently a tad damp in Cambridge! I know it's needed but makes parenting a probably also ADHD DS a bit harder

NoEligibilityRequirementsApply · 27/08/2026 10:50

Lovely breakfast for me this morning. Porridge made with soymilk, banana, berries and honey. I'm not hungry yet but lunch will be a jacket potato with soy yoghurt, asparagus and salad. Dinner baked tofu with rice.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/08/2026 17:39

I had overnight oats with chia and protein yog and berries for breakfast, and then for lunch I had a tin of tuna with mayo in a wrap. I got the 3pm sugar crash I don’t know what’s got into me this week. I’m
so tired and this horrible wet muggy weather is so stifling, I just have zero energy. In the end I decided to eat real food not snacks so I ate some Stilton cheese and bread with houmous. It will take me over my calories but at least it is food and not junk.

i am meeting my friend for a walk with the dogs later and I hope it will clear my head a bit and get me out of this funk. If i’m not hungry I won’t eat dinner, I’ve done a Nando’s seasoning tray bake with chicken mushrooms peppers and new potatoes which will keep a portion for lunch tomorrow if I don’t eat it tonight.

I’m looking forward to soup season starting 😋

Please can I join you all. 48, 5ft 5in and 12st. Lost 7lb b4 holiday but have now put 5 back on. Also in the midst of perimenopause and really struggling with weightloss. So hard to lose, literally 1 or 2lbs a month and then goes on really fast. Its really depressing and I keep thinking about WLI and pills and how much easier that would be.

Petsgalore · 28/08/2026 00:01

Thanks for the welcome, I have been tracking my calories and have not eaten more than usual but the scales say I am up a lb so going to go for a swim later and see if I can kick start it again, used to swim regularly I think I need to get back to it.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/08/2026 06:50

Good morning, TGIFriday! Such a long week, I hate the first week back after hols. It’s feeling very autumnal here today, real ‘back to school’ vibes 🎃

my plan today is, as always, walk the dog, hold out til mid morning for breakfast/brunch, run at lunchtime, I have yesterdays leftovers for lunch today, then dinner will be a chilli which will also make portions for the freezer. I’ve had a bit of a false start this week and I’m out tomorrow so not expecting great losses this weigh in, but hopefully next week once the diary is clear will be better.

what day is everyone weighing? You don’t have to post on here, or even weigh if you don’t want to. I like a weekly “official” weigh in and a couple of mid week calibration weighs! Usually my official day is Monday but actually I’m going to change it to Fridays as a little motivator for the weekend.

@PetsgaloreI think about wLi too, I’m not eligible but I know I could get them if I wanted to, my bmi is 25. But I don’t know, I think my biggest worry is that I’d be on them for life or the weight would just go back on as soon as I stop them. I also think it’s unfair to spend so much money on them, while it’s my money, I still think it’s too much to spend for me on something like that. It’s not like I have any actual health issues caused by my weight, it’s purely vanity for me.

anyway, onto the day ahead. Have a good one ☝️

WhitegreeNcandle · 28/08/2026 18:51

Hi @Infracat and welcome. I normally weigh on a Monday.

Fridays I want to start trying fasting - I’m Christian and have been reading a bit about fasting and apparently it’s done traditionally on a Friday. So today I missed breakfast.

lunch was leftover salad
half a cookie this afternoon in the new village bakery that was given to me
tea - pasta puttanesca with green beans and garlic bread.

Am trying to avoid alcohol at the moment so have some properchips and some salted caramel itau rice cakes for later.

no exercise today but 3 hours of farm cleaning again!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/08/2026 20:24

Well I had a very long week and I’m glad it’s a 3 day weekend. I must admit i hit the wall today. I just couldn’t shake off the sluggish tired mood and on my lunch break I went upstairs and set a 45 minute timer and closed my eyes for a nap. I’ve barely moved except a dog walk this morning. I don’t know what’s got into me 🤷‍♀️ sounds awful but my friend has cancelled tomorrow and I am secretly glad. I plan to have a nice weekend of catching up on some rest and getting back in the zone. I’m having a glass of wine tonight before I begin my sober September!

someone gave me a huge bag of damsons so after work I sorted them all and made chutney and compote, along with a chilli for dinner. It’s no wonder I’m knackered really is it?

OP posts:
WhitegreeNcandle · 29/08/2026 08:14

I love damsons! Revolutionized my love of them when I discovered a damson destoner though!

today’s meal plan:
B - either eggs and spinach or Greek yoghurt. Not sure yet.
L - avocado and tomatoes on toast
t - roast beef, mash, yorkshires, carrots and peas followed by home made cheesecake. In laws can’t do Sunday lunch so are over today.

Off for a run this morning while DD does her egg deliveries on her bike. Then a full day of sorting the garage.

Not a great day ahead food wise but it is realistic - just aiming to not have huge portions. Also please with myself that last night I had a few crisps and rice cakes but I left some in the pack. That’s progress for me!!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 29/08/2026 08:34

Oh a destoner would have been a good idea. Delia suggested boiling them with stones then fishing them out, which was a very messy, bright red activity and my kitchen looked like a crime scene

oh the rain is here. I’m secretly quite pleased. I’m going to get music on and get this house back to some semblance of clean and tidy, few jobs, maybe a run, definitely a workout. I had a weird night, I am on new HRT and I’m Having a lot of night sweats again, so was awake multiple times in the night soaking wet through my pjs. It’s really unpleasant and because I’m always in a deep sleep i don’t make sensible decisions about how to deal with it 🤣

I spent a lot of time last night looking at weight loss tablets. It’s not something i have seriously considered before but I am becoming more tempted and I am going to do a little more research. I could probably afford £100 a month if that was what it would be. 🤔

NoEligibilityRequirementsApply · 29/08/2026 08:41

DH cooks his damsons then sieves the stones out. It makes for a very smooth jam though.

I am weighing roughly every ten days. Day 5 of plant based. But yesterday I was out at a friend's and had a few crisps and an egg mayo sandwich.

Today I am at a cafe for brunch and have spied on their menu they have courgette fritters with avocado and balsamic tomatos. So I suspect this is in my future. I have also put some yellow lentils on to soak and will make a dhal for dinner to eat with rice, raita and pappadums. Alcohol-free day today also.

MightyGoldBear · 29/08/2026 08:41

Can I join.... I'm finding losing weight so hard. It's boring and repetitive. To keep consistency I need to live alone for a good year without children or any stress in life. That's not going to happen so here I am restarting after every school holiday because life descends into chaos.
I wouldn't even say I eat a lot and I am active. But I get bored so little yummy treats are my only little bit of enjoyment in life 🙈 I have no idea how to change that with little children/additional needs. I find exercise really boring no endorphins for me. I have no brain space for calorie counting I'd rather fast.

I am trying to get in a better place before menopause as I often read on here by that time I will look at a lettuce leaf and put on 2 stone 😬

I'm all ears for any advice particularly on how to keep consistency with young children.

NaivePrey · 29/08/2026 09:58

Hi I’ve been lurking and started last week and have been tracking my calories - I have 12kg to lose ideally. I’ve been eating around 1500 cals and have lost 1.2kg since last week which I’m happy with! I’m in peri menopause so fully expect now to stay the same for a week or two before moving down again. Does everyone else use myfitnesspal - I find it quite good as a motivator as I’m trying to log all my food so it’s quite good as I think before the snack attack as if it’s really worth the calories 😬

Harrysmummy246 · 29/08/2026 10:26

Back home now, and no travel til half term. Did have a glass of wine last night following the very long and ridiculously wet drive back.
Just had porridge before I go rowing- DDog is probably not going to want to go for a walk in the rain, and now she is 12 and a solo dog, we are less demanding of her having to.

Lunch won't really happen because rowing is at 12 so then I need to avoid snacking until dinner time. Need to figure out the breakfast protein situation for next week's shop too

I weighed this morning, as end of travel 😱😱 to prod myself into trying to make the changes

WhitegreeNcandle · 30/08/2026 12:09

@NaivePrey i have a subscription but only last about a day before I lose momentum with mfp. It just seems to take me ages to plug everything in.

@Harrysmummy246 rowing is a cool hobby! How long have you been doing that?

Ive woken up full of beans today so although no formal exercise I’ve done two hours in the garden. Food today:
B - spinach, eggs and tomatoes
L - avocado and tomatoes on high protein bread
T - - sausages, mash, carrots and broccoli.

might be making a blackberry crumble traybake if I finish the labelling, packing and sorting for school that’s required today!

Harrysmummy246 · 30/08/2026 13:08

@WhitegreeNcandle ummmm 26 years... Started at uni and never stopped

15km done this morning- 90+ mins and some gardening at friend's house, still need to walk DDog and do something in my own garden

Calling only one custard cream a win here.... Sadly that's about the bar I'm trying to rise above

thenewaveragebear1983 · 30/08/2026 17:23

I have been a bit quiet the last few days, I’ve not really been on plan although my meals have been ok. I ran today and yesterday and did a short weights session in my gym this afternoon as well. I’m absolutely determined to be totally on it from 1st September, tomorrow I have my nieces birthday and dh is cooking dinner so will be hard to track. But from Tuesday I am a slimming angel. 😇

I’m going to count my calories (I use nutracheck, I never got on with MFP) and also track my protein a bit more diligently. I don’t like protein powders really so I will be trying to increase it through real food. I have a couple of portions of chilli already frozen gif this week ahead lunches and I made some lentil and bacon soup today which I can have tomorrow.
