Petite support for losing a few pounds/getting to our 'happy' size

ACuppaAlwaysHelps · 06/10/2024 16:13

Hi all. Following on from the thread that @SprayPaint started yesterday, a few of us (@Waiting9 @Horriblehistoree @FaceofSpades) seemed keen to have a thread to support each other in reaching our weight loss/body shape/fitness/health goals.

All petites are welcome on this thread, but it seemed like it would be particularly helpful to have a corner of Mumsnet for those of us who are petite/small framed and officially a 'healthy weight' but know we feel/look better a few pounds lighter (which would still be within a healthy weight/not underweight).

Maybe we can share goals, progress, struggles, things that are working, etc.? It would also be lovely to hear from any petites who are at a 'happy weight' and what you are doing to be successful.

Someone (maybe @FaceofSpades?) posted some helpful thoughts on the thread yesterday.

Please share how you all think this thread could be helpful.

Feel free to share as much or little as you like. Height, current weight, goal weight or other body measurements, nutrition, calories, exercise, NSV, etc.

@VaVallan

Well done that is amazing xx

Bexstar82 · 08/03/2025 10:33

@OObelixtheGaul thank you.

How are you doing?
I had to get on them 3 times because I wasn't sure if they were messing with me!! Haha

I'm having a treat tonight because it was already discussed earlier in the week we'd have a take out and I think genuinely a treat stops you going mad and then binging out.

I still want to get back to 8st. That is my happy happy weight for shorts. But I will absolutely take the small wins because we all know how hard this is.

Have a great weekend xx

Disappointed this week because I seem to be fluctuating between 8:11 and 8:13, but hoping to see movement soon.

Bexstar82 · 08/03/2025 10:46

@OObelixtheGaul I was sticking for a few weeks too. I didn't know what to do because I try and keep my carbs low.

So I will freely admit last Friday evening I took the kids to Zizzis as a sod it treat and had all the carbs, garlic bread, pasta and chocolate brownies.

I'm beginning to think that sometimes this is needed and then getting back on it the next day helps...... In my mind it does.

We will get there. You haven't gained so that is bloody well done too. Xx

Swearwolf · 09/03/2025 07:58

I've been stuck for a few weeks too. Gained a kilo over Feb and it's not going anywhere. I've been drinking more which leads to snacking more and I'm trying to curb that now, went out for dinner last night and stuck to fizzy water and not feeling the need for a glass of wine. I think the weather helps, when it's horrible it makes me want to get cosy with a sherry and a roast dinner. Tonight I'll be on the water in the sunshine! Just off for a run with a friend in the lovely sun.

Hello 👋 finally found the thread for me!

I'm 5ft1 and currently 8 stone 6, and would ideally like to be under 8 stone as this is the heaviest I've ever been and I feel very uncomfortable, my clothes don't fit and I can't afford a whole new wardrobe. 😅 The weight never came off after my youngest child and I've been struggling to see any movement for a very long time now.

I'm so hungry all the time so find it hard to stick to lower calories, but could definitely make better choices with WHAT I'm eating.

Well done everyone for your hard work and results so far. 😁

Storynanny1 · 09/03/2025 12:09

I’ve officially lost the stone I’ve been trying lose on and off since last child born in 1991. Scales hovered fractionally under 9 st line this morning! I’m going to try and lose a couple more pounds so that my summer clothes are not tight and then work out a maintenance plan as that’s where I’ve struggled before.
I know all about ‘ not getting too thin in older age” post menopause in response to the earlier poster. I want to minimise more damage to arthritic knees by keeping my weight being at the top end of bmi.

Hello, I’ve been avoiding this thread! Grin

In October, when I first posted I was 54.9kg. (I’m 5”2). I went down to 54kg, then over the following months went up to 59.2kg! I’m currently 57.1 and need to sort my life out!

I need to get back to intermittent fasting as it helped a lot, I just need to get back into that headspace! I’ve had a lot of stress and some health issues (I’ve been unable to exercise) and my eating has just gone crazy.

Bexstar82 · 09/03/2025 13:02

@RaRadiolala avoid no longer you can do this.

I just wanted to say I had an amazing thai takeaway last night. I confess I had a tunnocks tea cake too which was amazing as I'd normally want at least 4 to touch the sweet tooth.
I won't be going on the scales until Tuesday.
Back on it today. Will try to have extra deficits.

Well done to everyone and let's have a good week xxx

TheBirdintheCave · 09/03/2025 16:08

Finally got to my brother's house and did the scales this afternoon. I'm at 8 stone 13!! So pleased to finally be under 9 stone though it's annoying not to be able to check my weight when I first wake up. Half a stone to go to reach my 'comfortable' weight.

Hoolahoophop · 10/03/2025 10:40

My downward weight is Sloooooow progress. But it is going. Re-thinking food to make smart choices, portion size and calorie counting is working for me. Still much too high though. I'm 5ft (almost) and 57.6kg at the moment. Would love to be 48kg but haven't been that weight since I was 21.

Looking at weights closer to my own definitely helps compared to the 'normal height' weight goals which make me feel like I'm not doing too badly, when in reality, I'm overweight because I'm short!

My mother says that she isn't overweight, she's just underheight Grin

Bexstar82 · 12/03/2025 15:02

Hi ladies how is everyone doing?

So I had another small win and I'm taking it.
Weighed in at 8st 5.5lbs today.

I still can't budge the ring on my finger to get it off despite this so I am definitely going to keep trying to get to the magic 8 number for me.

Happy Wednesday and we can all do this xx

andHelenknowsimmiserablenow · 12/03/2025 19:46

Half a stone gone so far but it has taken ages. 8st 11. Another 9lb to go.
DP away this weekend so I won't be tempted by beer and big breakfasts out, so hoping a few more lbs off by Monday.

Bexstar82 · 12/03/2025 20:11

@andHelenknowsimmiserablenow

That is bloody brilliant. It might be slow but we are doing it. xx

minipie · 13/03/2025 08:52

Right, time to take this seriously. I joined this thread a while ago but didn’t really make any changes. However after a couple of trips away and trying to fit into clothes I haven’t worn for a while, it is clear I’ve put on a fair bit over the past year or so. Photos were depressing.

I’ve ordered some scales which I was reluctant to do before but think I need the motivation/accountability from them. I’m not going to do calorie counting but am going to try to cut out all snacks between meals as I think this has been my downfall.

BogRollBOGOF · 13/03/2025 20:50

I'm feeling positive. I've got a couple of weeks of healthy eating and keeping sugars/ starchy carbs down and I'm feeling good on it.

I've bought some body analysing scales, a bit more sophisticated than my 15yo set. The numbers are fluctuating around as they do, but I feel like I'm making positive changes, and they are off the peak that they were at a few weeks ago. It's just being patient waiting for the trend to become clear and holding motivation until that momentum shows up.

It's annoying not getting those starting wooshes that larger people get at the start to help signal that you're on the right track.

minipie · 13/03/2025 22:05

Scales have arrived.

Christ. Quite a bit heavier than I thought.

About 9 st 7 or 60 kg in clothes. (Not tried the naked, morning, post loo weigh yet, maybe I can take a kilo or two off for clothes etc) Always used to be 8 stone something and would really like to get back down to that. 8.5 stone would be nice.

Starting now.

Fibrous · 14/03/2025 07:15

Hi, can I join? I was losing fairly steadily as I was overweight, but it's slowed down now.

I'm currently 59 kgs and losing 0.5 - 1 lb a week. I'm 155cm so at the top end of normal bmi. I'm eating three high fibre usually vegetarian meals a day and doing daily yoga, two weights sessions a week, and about 20km running, which I'm looking to increase steadily if I can do without injury. I have two big dogs so walk them everyday too.

I'm going for a body fat percentage rather than a goal weight as we have a 3d scanner in my gym, which does all your measurements and estimates body fat and shows you a 3d image of yourself (which isn't pleasant but is certainly useful). I'm currently 29-30% depending on what pants I wear - aiming for low twenties. I weigh fairly regularly to get some reference points but I find a monthly comparison more useful to spot the downward trends.

Bexstar82 · 15/03/2025 11:41

The scales say 8st 4.5lbs.
I will be taking that!

4.5lbs to go.

Happy Saturday everyone. Who knew that a rich tea finger at 23 cals could help along the way! xx

WombatChocolate · 15/03/2025 12:02

I’ve reached 8st 11.5lb. - that half pound loss matters!

That means I’ve shifted half a stone, which is v pleasing. Dresses skim my tummy better.

Still continuing with the small portions, esp small carbs and no snacking until Easter. Might manage another pound or two by then

Then onto ‘maintain’ with a fortnightly weigh to ensure I don’t creep over 9st again…..that’s the plan anyway!

Am hoping when I out shorts and t shirts on I will be pleased and glad I’ve slugged through the early part of year with it.

WombatChocolate · 15/03/2025 12:03

And yes, the get rich tea finger type little treat does help with the sugar urge doesn’t it.

BogRollBOGOF · 15/03/2025 12:07

Yesterday was a bit of a slog. I think my body was just demanding more carbs and not satisfied with veg/ proteins. I did manage to hold my resolve at not having a Red Bull for a quick fix. At one point I ended up having sparkling water with lemon and ginger in it which helped a little. And I also had dark chocolate. At dinner time we had pasta, so I did a small bowl of side salad on my plate to add veg and control portion size, spooned on some chicken/ mushroom sauce first so I had a head start on protein, then mixed the pasta in with the sauce for the family and added some to my plate. So the same meal as the rest of the family, but shifting the macro ratios around.

The sauce was blended coconut milk, onion, garlic, spinach, yellow pepper and mushrooms, and I left some mushrooms chunky for me and DH to enjoy and the DCs to pick out. 😂

The awkward bit at the moment is that it feels like there's no margin for any slack to eat randomly. I'm eating well and trying to find that balance between burning some surplus fat and eating enough for energy, but it feels like a really tight margin. It's certainly nutritious though so that's a big positive in the face of impatience!

Bexstar82 · 15/03/2025 12:25

@WombatChocolatethat .5 of a lb so matters!!! Well done you.
@BogRollBOGOFkeep at it. The margins are literally ridiculous but I keep believing we can all do this. xx

BogRollBOGOF · 15/03/2025 18:07

I've treated myself to a chocolate éclair. Grin
DS is currently in town every week for his DoE activity so we park a mile away for free then walk about a mile in plus back. He likes something from Greggs after, and I've been abstaining, but I felt like I was in need of something fun. And they're not ridiculously sweet so it's hit the spot without making me crave more.

Back to patience now!
