Petite support for losing a few pounds/getting to our 'happy' size

ACuppaAlwaysHelps · 06/10/2024 16:13

Hi all. Following on from the thread that @SprayPaint started yesterday, a few of us (@Waiting9 @Horriblehistoree @FaceofSpades) seemed keen to have a thread to support each other in reaching our weight loss/body shape/fitness/health goals.

All petites are welcome on this thread, but it seemed like it would be particularly helpful to have a corner of Mumsnet for those of us who are petite/small framed and officially a 'healthy weight' but know we feel/look better a few pounds lighter (which would still be within a healthy weight/not underweight).

Maybe we can share goals, progress, struggles, things that are working, etc.? It would also be lovely to hear from any petites who are at a 'happy weight' and what you are doing to be successful.

Someone (maybe @FaceofSpades?) posted some helpful thoughts on the thread yesterday.

Please share how you all think this thread could be helpful.

Feel free to share as much or little as you like. Height, current weight, goal weight or other body measurements, nutrition, calories, exercise, NSV, etc.

December is a total write off for me. I've kept up with my weekly Zumba class but my husband is off for three months for shared parental leave and I'm using up holiday before I go back to work in January. We've been going out for lunch a lot 😅

BogRollBOGOF · 17/12/2024 07:11

My resolve is in standby mode.
I need more daylight to have the energy to focus well.
And the fresh/ frozen food avaliability gets disrupted by additional Christmas ranges of stock.

In my credit, I made it to the 16th before stollen passed my lips 😂

Ooo...I love stollen, but no one else in my family likes it. I've not bought any yet. Do I buy some, knowing the dangerously high calories or do I resist?!

Has anyone got any plans for how to navigate the next couple of weeks to not start the new year 7 pounds heavier! (I feel it is so easy to gain, whilst still restricting and saying no to so many things.)

Well, I've managed to catch the horrible stomach bug doing the rounds, so I can't face eating or drinking anything! Trying to see if as a silver lining.

Hold out until the main event if you can is the dull and sensible answer.

I've been buying limited treats for weekly use and storing Christmas/ New Year treats seperately to manage temptation.

Storynanny1 · 18/12/2024 08:25

Me too, going back to old school Christmas - lovely treats and food on Christmas Eve til day after Boxing Day.

WhoWhereWhatWhy · 18/12/2024 17:39

I can only think I’ve got a tapeworm. I’ve been on some lovely evenings out and haven’t actively held black at home either, and somehow I’m 1.5lb down, again, this week.

I think what I’ve done is I’ve been strict all day until I’m out in the evening and then had only one drink (if I’m having dinner too) or a few drinks if I ate at home. And I’m eating smaller amounts of each course. I’m not denying myself anything, just probably having less of it.

I will be having everything I want on Christmas Day and Boxing Day though! I’ve purposely not bought any chocolates at all as we always get given some for Christmas and I know that DH and the children have some in their stockings. I was given a large box as a present a few weeks ago so we will open that this weekend to last us until Christmas Eve.

I am the same weight I was 4 weeks ago 😩 I've gone up a pound and back down that many times. It's frustrating, I was hoping to be at least 2 pounds lower before school holidays and going away to see family.
Feels like I'll be forever trying to lose the next 4 pounds 😭

I purchased some protein powder, and absolutely hate it! I seriously need to up my protein consumption and thought that would help. Amy recommendations? 😁

Loseing · 19/12/2024 16:59

Somehow I’ve put on 3 pounds - oh dear! I’m hoping it’s because I’m on my period and not because I’ve been baking (and eating) cakes a lot more this last week 🤭 I’ll weigh myself in a few days and hopefully my weight will be back down again. If not tbh I’ll just stop weighing and start the health kick again a few days before New Year’s Day! 😂

I used to like one from a company called proteinworks @ItIsAlwaysSwingsAndRoundabouts
it was called wondershake or something and I had the vanilla flavour!

Unrulyrabbit · 19/12/2024 18:25

I'm so annoyed with myself. 5 years ago I was 12 stone. Then I lost 2 stone in a year or so. Still wasn't completely happy but was on the way there. Then I started eating like a pig again and I'm right back where I started. 5 ft 3.

I know Xmas isn't the time to tell myself to do something about it, but after next week I want to commit to weight loss again.

Have you been having the protein powder as a drink/shake?

I use Optimum Nutrition and sometimes mix it into porridge or sometimes into Greek yogurt. I like the vanilla flavour in porridge and the chocolate or strawberry in plain Greek yogurt. I only buy it when it's on offer and often usually use less than the recommended serving but it still adds some extra protein to breakfast or dessert or yogurt and fruit.

I've been really bad the past month, so I'm back to 8 stone 10. So annoyed at myself!

I feel at this point I just have to go hungry to lose weight. 8 stone 3 would be ideal.

Was hoping to get there by mid Jan but impossible now!

BogRollBOGOF · 22/12/2024 07:46

I did a random stand on the scales and I've stayed the same which is pleasing given that motivation is off doing Christmas both for food and running. Plus we've had a family birthday this week.

The one box of mince pies per week, when they're gone, they're gone has done quite well. I'm not a fan of abstinence, but it has kept the habit controlled. My stollen and lebkuchen count is down.

We've got some festive parkruns and hikes planned so that's a positive, plus I can do a few extra gym sessions with DH as the mum-taxi has a break.

ACuppaAlwaysHelps · 22/12/2024 11:03

I have a dilemma! I'm the only person in my family who likes Christmas cake, so I didn't make one this year, but ordered a mini one for myself.

I've just had my Sainsbury's receipt (shop is being delivered today) and they've substituted a 145g cake for a 900g cake!! Obviously this is a great substitution in terms of me gaining something better for the same money, but I'd deliberately ordered a small cake so that I could just eat a very small amount (I'm talking a slither, as it's so high in calories) over a few days!

I'd cut a 200g portion for yourself, and quickly freeze the rest! Or portion it all up first and pop it in the freezer? If freezable!

ACuppaAlwaysHelps · 22/12/2024 14:46

Good idea! I don't know why I didn't think of that!

We had the top tier of our wedding cake nearly two years later at DS's Christening!

We did order a sponge to be the main cake too 😂

BogRollBOGOF · 25/12/2024 07:33

Merry Christmas petites. Have a great day!

Lowin2024 · 26/12/2024 15:10

Hi ladies, can I join?! Just posted a thread but maybe this is the one for me?
I am 40, 5 ft 3 and currently 9 stone 4. My happy weight is 8 stone 7 but I have failed to get to that weight since having my last baby in 2018 so at this stage 8 stone 10 would be lovely. I am a very healthy eater and regular exerciser, sometimes intermittent fasting. I do like chocolate but can cut it if I am focused. I genuinely believe I am burning more than I am eating because I have weighed and measured my food but since turning 40 it’s like my body just refuses to let any weight go. So frustrated with it all but determined to make progress!

ACuppaAlwaysHelps · 27/12/2024 12:36

Welcome, @Lowin2024 This is a lovely, supportive thread of people who understand the challenge of being shorter (and understand that it's ok to still want to lose a few pounds, even if we're officially a healthy weight).

Also, @Lowin2024 just to say - I don't have answers but completely relate to your post. I track my calories, intermittent fast, exercise, eat healthy foods with lots of veg, fibre and protein, etc...yet I can't lose weight.

You are doing well! My last baby was born in 1991 and I’m still ( on and off!) trying to return to 8 st 13 , which I feel my best at. I weighed this morning after enjoying Christmas Day and Boxing Day with calorie counting and was pleased to see I wasn’t up from last weigh in. I’m currently 9 st 5 and recommencing today. I did find that after 7 weeks of restricting sugar( well chocolate!) and white carbs I didn’t do my usual stuffing in 10 quality street mindlessly this time.
like a lot of you I’m really careful not to advertise to my family about my careful and mindful eating as I’m already the smallest, height wise and weight wise! I’m doing this solely for how I feel about myself and health benefits on joints ( arthritic knees in my case)
Im aiming for 9 st 2 by end of Feb as I definitely can’t lose a pound every week - I’ve tested that out and it would be 800 calories a day for ever which would be extremely unhealthy! I’m continuing with mindful eating and a smaller portion of whatever we are having for our main meal

Swearwolf · 27/12/2024 16:40

Merry Christmas everyone! I braved the post-Christmas weigh-in this morning and was pleased to have only gained 0.3kg. I'm currently 62.9kg which is still under 10 stone so I'm happy! This is the point where I can cope with imperial measurements again!! I haven't been under 10 stone since 2021 and even that was very brief, I only lasted there for a couple of weeks before tipping back over. Before that I haven't been this weight since before my youngest was born - she's almost 9, so we are probably talking almost 10 years!

My next little goal is 9 stone 10, which I hope to hit by the end of January, then 9 stone 7 by my girl's birthday in march. By the summer I would like to be 9 stone 3. My happiest weight is 8.10, but I haven't been that light since before kids so I don't think that will happen.

Overall, I've lost 5kg in the last year, about 9lb, which is super slow but it's steady and hopefully sustainable. I think my metabolism has improved as I've been building muscle, so hoping I can do the same again this year. We shall see.

Thanks so much for your kind welcome! I really appreciate it. I know I’m not overweight and sometimes friends will tell me I’m being ridiculous and look fine but I truly do feel a lot better a few pounds lighter and it is so frustrating struggling to get there. Lovely to find others in the same boat!

ACuppaAlwaysHelps · 27/12/2024 20:46

Does anyone here use Nutracheck to track their calories? If so, what do you have your calories, macros, etc. set to? It gives me 1400 calories but I think that might be too high? (I'm 5ft2.)
