Mysimba Progress - an honest review

Hello!

I'm one of those people who can go on a diet, lose weight, but not keep it off! I also want to say that I am in no way affiliated with Mysimba, but wanted to share with you all my experience so far.

2 years ago at 18st 7lbs I joined up with SlimmingWorld for 12 weeks, that set my mind right and for the next 4 months (7 months total) I carried on by myself and lost a total of 78lbs. To be 12st 13lbs and size Medium was lifechanging. I honestly can't put into words how I felt, but it was heaven having spent 25 years around 18st, and tipped the scales at 18st 13lbs!

Fast forward to 2023 and yes, as I expected, I have put weight back on. I have gone from the 12st 13lbs to 16st 4lbs. This is devastating because it feels like the party is over, and although I didn't as yet put back on the full 78lbs, and more, those wonderful slimmer days are gone. However, I'm not one to give up, but having done many diets which work to 'lose' weight, I haven't found one yet which can keep the weight off. I need to re-educate my brain as I have a food addiction, I crave junk food.

In the past, my primary motivation when dieting is losing the pounds, I become obsessed, almost replacing my food addiction. That's why SlimmingWorld works so well for me, winning Slimmer of the week, month etc. However, when my weight levels out, and I stop losing the pounds, the motivation diminishes and bit by bit, the cravings come back, I slip into old habits...and the pounds go on. I've been there and back so many times.

Which brings me to 2 weeks ago when after a chance conversation with my father who has been an alcoholic most of his life, he mentioned he has been on Naltrexone for 6 months, not gone on a drinking binge, and it has transformed his thinking, and his life. For the first time in as long as he can remember, he is able to have a drink, and walk away with no cravings. It was then that he mentioned about various similar drugs for obesity, including Mysimba.

So, with that information I did a tonne of research, and ordered some online, did all the consultation etc and started on a 16 week course on Monday 18th September. Today I am on day 14, on three tablets a day and can reliably say that Mysimba is working well for me. I started at 16st 4lbs, and this morning I weighed in at 15st 9lbs, a loss of 9lbs in two weeks.

My cravings for junk food have vanished. Shopping is so different, food is food, and I have no interest in crisps, cakes, peanuts etc. There are bags of crisps in the house which my wife is tucking into, but I haven't touched them and have no desire to.

I hope to last the 16 weeks, and hopefully my brain will be re-educated, time will tell. Any thoughts, questions or experiences to share, please feel free, would love to hear from you all.

Hi, it’s been a few weeks since I last posted, how are we already half way through February?!!!

Sadly I made the decision to stop taking MySimba at the end of January, the reason for this was that I had noticed my heart rate was running higher than usual, I had always been proud of the fact that I have a healthy heart rate and low blood pressure despite being overweight. The final straw came when I was sitting at my desk working in January and my Apple Watch vibrated to tell me that my heart rate had been high for 10 minutes whilst I was sitting still 😳 I decided that day to stop taking the medication, it has taken a couple of weeks but my heart rate feels like it is settling back down.

I’ve attached a screenshot from my IPhone to show how my heart rate shot up in December when I started taking the medication!!

I know that everyone is different and so the side effects will not be the same, on the plus side the food noise has still subsided, hopefully that will last 🤞 I have also managed to lose 1 stone since the end of November.

For everyone who is still taking MySimba and seeing positive results, I wish you all the best with your weight loss journey 😊 x x

Mysimba Progress - an honest review

Hi it's great to read people's experiences here. I'm on week 3 of mysimba so a few days away from going up to the full dose. I haven't had any side effects at all, though I have had more vivid dreams - but not bad ones.

I haven't noticed any particular change in my eating though. I haven't been logging food etc, just trying to focus on eating high-protein, low carb meals and not snacking, so probably I need to weigh my food and all that malarkey as my portion sizes are maybe too big.

Was hoping to avoid all that and that mysimba would do all the work for me! Bu just been experimenting with how it works really and I've definitely had a couple of unplanned encounters with family sized bags of popcorn and granola so it hasn't removed all compulsive eating yet..

Now I'm nearly up to the full dose I'll take it more seriously and probably start using an app for accountability - once again - and see if it's different this timr.

Anyway I just wanted to share as a lot of people have bad side-effects - but not me. They say to stop after 4 months if you haven't lost 5% of body weight so i'll
give it a few months on the full dose.

good luck everyone!

Hi all, im at the end of week 1 of Mysimba; day 4 I felt awful but fine since.

tracking on Nutracheck. 1 tablet is keeping food noise and cravings under control - not noticed appetite reduced, thinking of staying on one tablet for a little longer as it’s working for now.

did anyone have a slower start before increasing tablets?

deadparrot · 22/03/2025 07:07

Hi I'm on week 5 so have recently increased to 2 tablets twice a day. I initially I was expecting mysimba to do all the heavy lifting - I just ate as normal, including binging on bags of popcorn. Then I decided to make more of a plan eg no snacking between meals, and eating high protein, low carb, and what I found was with mysimba its been incredibly easy to stick with. I'm sometimes going 7 hours after lunch and not really noticing it. I feel now ive added a bit of willpower to the mix the weight is finally starting to drop off. I've now lost 4lb and feel that I'm now on a roll.

I think for me there's such a habitual element to how I've eaten, it has very little to do with my even wanting the food, I'll just eat anyway. But as soon as I decided not to, mysimba seemed to click in for me.
good luck!

I'm due to start tomorrow and reading all the comments above have been helpful. Everyone has done so well, well done 👏

Does anyone have any tips for optimal performance?

I notice above to drink 2 litres of water a day, which I'll definitely take into account. Anything else?

I'm already doing some strength training 3 times a week, and 5k runs on the other days - will this effect my progress? I'm conscious that it makes me even more hungry, so I'm hoping MySimba helps me to curb those cravings and keep me in a deficit.

Not going to lie, I'm terrified of these nightmares people have experienced!!

Want to be about 1 stone down by beginning of June for my holidays and all the nice clothes I have that are currently way too tight!

deadparrot · 03/06/2025 20:22

Hi, I think don't worry about it too much – it really is different for everyone. I had slightly more vivid dreams for a period but no nightmares. I've been on it for quite a few months now and if anything I found it wasn't as extreme as I thought and haven't been sure how much it's been helping. That said, I have lost a stone – but I've definitely had to use willpower and be organised with eating protein and every meal, as always.

I probably have had a bit less food. I have found my appetite has gone a bit but for vegetables and healthy foods as well as other foods so it's been quite tempting to keep eating yoghurts and things rather than fruit and veg. And on the days when everything goes out the window and you think 'oh, sod it – I've had a rubbish day and I'm going to eat what I want'– well, I probably won't have the whole tub of ice cream any more, but I might still have quite a lot!!

For me, I think even just taking the tablets helps as it reminds me that I'm a woman on a mission! Good luck and let us know how you get on😊
