Mysimba Progress - an honest review

StanleyOscar · 02/10/2023 15:44

Hello!

I'm one of those people who can go on a diet, lose weight, but not keep it off! I also want to say that I am in no way affiliated with Mysimba, but wanted to share with you all my experience so far.

2 years ago at 18st 7lbs I joined up with SlimmingWorld for 12 weeks, that set my mind right and for the next 4 months (7 months total) I carried on by myself and lost a total of 78lbs. To be 12st 13lbs and size Medium was lifechanging. I honestly can't put into words how I felt, but it was heaven having spent 25 years around 18st, and tipped the scales at 18st 13lbs!

Fast forward to 2023 and yes, as I expected, I have put weight back on. I have gone from the 12st 13lbs to 16st 4lbs. This is devastating because it feels like the party is over, and although I didn't as yet put back on the full 78lbs, and more, those wonderful slimmer days are gone. However, I'm not one to give up, but having done many diets which work to 'lose' weight, I haven't found one yet which can keep the weight off. I need to re-educate my brain as I have a food addiction, I crave junk food.

In the past, my primary motivation when dieting is losing the pounds, I become obsessed, almost replacing my food addiction. That's why SlimmingWorld works so well for me, winning Slimmer of the week, month etc. However, when my weight levels out, and I stop losing the pounds, the motivation diminishes and bit by bit, the cravings come back, I slip into old habits...and the pounds go on. I've been there and back so many times.

Which brings me to 2 weeks ago when after a chance conversation with my father who has been an alcoholic most of his life, he mentioned he has been on Naltrexone for 6 months, not gone on a drinking binge, and it has transformed his thinking, and his life. For the first time in as long as he can remember, he is able to have a drink, and walk away with no cravings. It was then that he mentioned about various similar drugs for obesity, including Mysimba.

So, with that information I did a tonne of research, and ordered some online, did all the consultation etc and started on a 16 week course on Monday 18th September. Today I am on day 14, on three tablets a day and can reliably say that Mysimba is working well for me. I started at 16st 4lbs, and this morning I weighed in at 15st 9lbs, a loss of 9lbs in two weeks.

My cravings for junk food have vanished. Shopping is so different, food is food, and I have no interest in crisps, cakes, peanuts etc. There are bags of crisps in the house which my wife is tucking into, but I haven't touched them and have no desire to.

I hope to last the 16 weeks, and hopefully my brain will be re-educated, time will tell. Any thoughts, questions or experiences to share, please feel free, would love to hear from you all.

Reading with interest - out of curiosity @StanleyOscar, has the weight stayed off?

I am terrified of taking the leap, just in case it's all for nothing in the end. Looking for something to help, though!

StanleyOscar · 03/09/2024 15:57

@BeesAndCrumpets Hello there!

Well, interesting question...Yes & No.

After taking MySimba, I never 'fully' regained my 'cravings'. A year later as we are now, I eat maybe one bag of crisps a month, but the addiction/cravings never completely returned, just the occasional want for junk food. And so that's all good.

As regards the weight...well again...yes and no. I did put back on half a stone, but I am still three stone off my original heaviest weight and did expect to be approx 4 stone heavier than I am now. So, although the weight hasn't completely stayed off, it never piled back on as expected.

Ironically, I signed up to another course of MySimba last week in the hope that if I could get say another 2 stone off, then it would be worth it. Unfortunately they wanted multiple photos with dates scribbled on paper etc, and I did all that last year and to be honest, I just couldn't be bothered to do it all again. Especially considering that in all honesty, as my cravings never came back fully, it was probably going to be a waste of money, and so I cancelled the order.

Upshot is that as the cravings never came back, it is easier to just do a normal diet for as long as I can, and lose as much as I can, and be happy in the knowledge that fundamentally the days of constantly overeating are somewhat in the past...for now at least.

Don't be terrified btw, it's not that bad. Yes, there can be side effects, but some people don't experience anything. I found that the freaky dreams, the headaches etc were all insignificant compared to the actual feeling that junk food just didn't exist. There was a feeling of liberation, at last I felt a normal person who didn't have food cravings!

If you can afford it, and you work with your doctor, or the supplier of MySimba, go for it.

Can you get Mysimba on presciption?

Yes, search for online pharmacies. Most only do injectable weight loss products but some offer Mysimba. It isn’t approved by the NHS so this (or a private GP) is the only way to get it.

BeesAndCrumpets · 04/09/2024 14:52

Thank you @StanleyOscar - that's heartening isn't it? Also - well done!

I have a bit of a fear of taking medication, especially for a something that's "not medically necessary", if you know what I mean.

It's SUCH a struggle. I have been on one diet or other for the last 30+ years and I am TIRED. I eat a very well balanced diet with little shite (my problem is portion control), I exercise regularly and yet, here I am. I come from a family of big women all with similar body shapes, and I have those genes!

Sick of being SO hard on myself ALL THE TIME. At my age, it's less about aesthetics, it's about fitness, movement, comfort and longevity...

Apologies, that turned into a pity party, didn't it?!

This is an interesting thread. Thanks @StanleyOscar OP. Reading with interest because I'm considering different weightloss medication options. My GP is offering Orlistat. I don't know why they all have to have all these side effects though - so scary not knowing what you'll go through with them.

Summerpigeon · 14/09/2024 11:45

I started yesterday
Am I'm panicking made a mistake and wasted £260
The side effects have been bad on one tablet I can't imagine what it will be like on 4

Summerpigeon · 14/09/2024 12:00

Thankyou so much for this thread
It was just what I needed today
Supportive and informative thankyou
I have been looking at mysimba for over a year, and I'm literally at rock bottom with my weight, and feeling any side effects can't be as bad as the obesity.
So I'm determined to plough on ,after reading this thread I'm hopeful I will be as successful ❤️

Summerpigeon · 14/09/2024 12:09

Most people seem to be on the injections
I was put of them ,I didn't want needles in the house and the side effects seem to be worse ones with injections
There doesn't seem to be a lot of information out there on mysimba,I was checking Facebook and tictock but no one seems to be documenting their journey.
I to picked mysimba for the addiction help ,I am a food addict, and I need the noise in my head turned off ,not my stomach made smaller, with surgery or the injections hormones increasing insulin

Hello. Was just curious about whether there were any users still around and how it was going. I think you had to stop? How are the cravings now?

Summerpigeon · 17/11/2024 16:00

Sadly I had to stop as well ,I think I only got two weeks in.
The horrendous nightmares did for me ..I was having like 3 a night
I was waking up in a state with my heart beating fast and they felt so real ,and violent..I just couldn't cope with them .
I started to dread going to sleep
And I wasn't good with constantly feeling sick ,and the horrendous constipation was just awful.
I'm currently on week 7 of monjroro...and touch wood ,none of the above side effects

Ifyounevergiveup · 17/11/2024 17:06

It might be worth trying again and not increase the dose unless you have to. In other words ignore the dosage instructions and just go on how you’re feeling.

I totally lost my obsessive thinking about food from the first tablet but carried on upping the dose per protocol and ended up living every day in mortal fear. Thankfully this did stop when I came off the drug. I know this sounds crazy but I am going to try again. I have a very supportive online pharmacy supplier whose advice in a nutshell is to take as little as possible. The weight fell off me with Mysimba and I’m hoping I can get that without the side effects if the dosage is minimal.

This was my intention too. I did well on Saxenda bit then there were supply issues. I tried Wegovy (as mounjaro wasn't quite available at the time) and had no luck at all. Am hoping like @StanleyOscar believes, this might help me sit with hunger and re-write some neural pathways about food and pleasure. Have just taken my second dose (day 2). Was pretty ok yesterday.

StanleyOscar · 19/11/2024 16:07

@SoulMole Yes, it can help for sure. I had side effects and gave up, however, a year later the cravings haven't returned I am pleased to say and so it was definitely worth it. I have stayed 3 stone under my heaviest weight, and I just don't binge eat anymore. Another thing as well, I find portion control so very easy now and I am sure this is helping a lot with weight control. When we go shopping, I tend not to pick up the junk food anymore, and even if my wife brings home lots of goodies, I don't seem to have much trouble resisting the temptation of helping myself.

Overall, it worked for me. I'm not an ideal weight yet but also nowhere near what I used to be. These days I am just taking the dieting in small chunks and slowly working my way down to a healthy weight without all the stress.

Stick with the Mysimba.

Thank you. Very reassuring. I'm only on day three. Bit headachey and jittery but completely manageable. Will have to see how it goes as I ramp up!

Hi everyone,

@StanleyOscar I came across your reviews yesterday when I was googling MySimba reviews before signing up with Asda online doctor, I’ve just uploaded my photos and amwaiting for the review. I also have the annoying food addiction like so many others here; I’m not a big meal eater, but the sweet tooth binging is my downfall 🤦‍♀️ I lost 3 stone over a year ago and have now regained it all, it’s so depressing to be on the never ending cycle of losing and regaining. I’ve seen that there are some common side effects amongst everyone here, but at the moment they feel like the lesser of the two evils. Hopefully the medication will help to break my food addictions 🤞

Hiya. I'm a good way through my second week. I posted in a FB group so will put this here, if it helps.

SoulMole · 28/11/2024 12:44

Hi everyone. I see a lot of people with questions and nervous about starting so thought I would keep a log of my own experience and progress. I am un the UK so I get the regular blue pill but it’s called MySimba for us. I’ve paid privately for this. I walk around 12k steps a day and weight train twice a week. I am 45.

SW: 226.7

CW: 223.3

GW: 140

Lost this week: 3.4lb

Lost in total: 3.4lb (if we ignore the last 30-ish years of yo-yoing)

Dose

1 tablet a day (am) and 1:1 from yesterday (7am and 5.30pm-ish)

Effects:

Food noise has died down so I’m not snacking all day. Eating similarly to how I was, just less of it. The type of food I eat isn’t terrible. But I eat too much of it. I have been quite hungry at times, but I’ve been able to sit with it, or get fruit. It’s just been easier not to reach for unhealthy snacks.

Side effects

Jittery, shaky, fuzzy, irate for a few days at first. Lessened over the week and wasn’t bad enough to impact me too much. Having bizarre dreams and waking in the early hours but not like night terrors or anything. Dry mouth at times. Couple of headaches - not too bad. Perhaps a little more tired.

Anyway, I hope this helps and I will post an update from week 2 next week!

Aah yes I hadn’t thought of checking out FB groups, good shout. Still waiting for my photos to be reviewed, it says there is a slight delay at the moment so could take a couple of days.

SoulMole · 28/11/2024 13:53

The American ones are more active. There's a women's only Cotrave (their name) one. If you're female anyway!

Dose

1:1 (started 2:1 yesterday)

Effects:

Found this week difficult. Had food noise and hunger. Snacked a lot. Didn’t notice much difference from one tablet a day. Hope 2:1 will be better.

Side effects

Minimal this week. Dry mouth. Weird dreams. Possibly a tad low on patience at times!

Anyway, I hope this helps and I will post an update from week 3 next week!
