Mysimba Progress - an honest review

StanleyOscar · 02/10/2023 15:44

Hello!

I'm one of those people who can go on a diet, lose weight, but not keep it off! I also want to say that I am in no way affiliated with Mysimba, but wanted to share with you all my experience so far.

2 years ago at 18st 7lbs I joined up with SlimmingWorld for 12 weeks, that set my mind right and for the next 4 months (7 months total) I carried on by myself and lost a total of 78lbs. To be 12st 13lbs and size Medium was lifechanging. I honestly can't put into words how I felt, but it was heaven having spent 25 years around 18st, and tipped the scales at 18st 13lbs!

Fast forward to 2023 and yes, as I expected, I have put weight back on. I have gone from the 12st 13lbs to 16st 4lbs. This is devastating because it feels like the party is over, and although I didn't as yet put back on the full 78lbs, and more, those wonderful slimmer days are gone. However, I'm not one to give up, but having done many diets which work to 'lose' weight, I haven't found one yet which can keep the weight off. I need to re-educate my brain as I have a food addiction, I crave junk food.

In the past, my primary motivation when dieting is losing the pounds, I become obsessed, almost replacing my food addiction. That's why SlimmingWorld works so well for me, winning Slimmer of the week, month etc. However, when my weight levels out, and I stop losing the pounds, the motivation diminishes and bit by bit, the cravings come back, I slip into old habits...and the pounds go on. I've been there and back so many times.

Which brings me to 2 weeks ago when after a chance conversation with my father who has been an alcoholic most of his life, he mentioned he has been on Naltrexone for 6 months, not gone on a drinking binge, and it has transformed his thinking, and his life. For the first time in as long as he can remember, he is able to have a drink, and walk away with no cravings. It was then that he mentioned about various similar drugs for obesity, including Mysimba.

So, with that information I did a tonne of research, and ordered some online, did all the consultation etc and started on a 16 week course on Monday 18th September. Today I am on day 14, on three tablets a day and can reliably say that Mysimba is working well for me. I started at 16st 4lbs, and this morning I weighed in at 15st 9lbs, a loss of 9lbs in two weeks.

My cravings for junk food have vanished. Shopping is so different, food is food, and I have no interest in crisps, cakes, peanuts etc. There are bags of crisps in the house which my wife is tucking into, but I haven't touched them and have no desire to.

I hope to last the 16 weeks, and hopefully my brain will be re-educated, time will tell. Any thoughts, questions or experiences to share, please feel free, would love to hear from you all.

Hi @SoulMole

Thank you for your update, I’m on day 5 of week 1. The things I’ve noticed so far are: my anxiety is a little higher than usual, but it could just be because I’ve read about that as a possible side effect 🤷‍♀️; cravings seem less intense, I can actually eat a handful of cashews wnd be satisfied, without the need to go back and finish the bag; I have a mild headache, but not that bad.

Planning to weigh myself on Thursday, to see if it has had any effect 🤞

Great news. I have got off to a better start for week 3. Glad effects aren't too harsh. Sounds like they can be horrific. Let me know how you get on.

Week 3 Review

Hi everyone. I see a lot of people with questions and nervous about starting so thought I would keep a log of my experience and progress. I am un the UK so I get the regular blue pill but it’s called MySimba for us. I’ve paid privately for this. I walk around 12k steps a day and weight train twice a week. I am 45.

SW: 226.7

CW: 222.1

GW: 140

Lost this week: 0.2lb (!)

Lost in total: 4.6lb (if we ignore the last 30-ish years of yo-yoing)

Dose

2:1 (started 2:2 yesterday)

Effects:

Got off to a good start. Food noise definitely reduced. But I lost momentum as the weekend approached, due to some Christmas plans. I think I was on for a loss and then messed it up. I conclude / remind that this is just an aid, and not a magic pill. You still need to do the hard graft and be mindful.

Side effects

Minimal this week. Dry mouth very occasionally. Weird dreams.

I think, that although the side effects are minimal, so are the positive effects for me. I wonder if those with worse side effects find it more helpful? I will see how I get on now I am on 2:2 and post an update next week.

How's it going @grownandthriving?

TFT · 17/12/2024 20:12

Hi I'm thinking of going on Mysimba as its a daily pill, and if I got too many side effects I could just stop and it would get out of my system quicker than the injections .The side effects don't look as bad. Is there anyone on here who had food suppressant tablets from amazon, no prescription needed for them, but they did nothing for me so ended up looking at these tablets

TFT · 17/12/2024 20:20

HAS ANYONE GOT THERE MYSIMBA FROM SUPERDRUG DOCTOR THANKS

Hi,

Ive just come back from a week in Disneyland Paris, walked 22k steps a day, but the food there isn’t great, a lot of burgers or pizzas and hardly a vegetable in sight 😂
I’m just about to finish week 3, I lost 6lbs in week 1, but haven’t weighed myself since I got back from Disney as even a short flight messes up my water retention! However I can finally feel that my clothes are getting looser 😊
No side effects for me now, I was drinking 2 litres of water a day before, so that is helping with the dry mouth.

A good point to note is that after what feels like a lifetime of hearing it, the food noise seems to have gone away! I was both a binge eater (been receiving CBT treatment this year) and also a food addict! So I feel like I am finally resolving those issues! 🤞

Starting 2:2 on Friday, hope I am still feeling positive at the end of it!

Happy Christmas 🎄

Hi, yes of course. When I say food noise I mean there is a little voice inside my head telling me to eat more and telling me to go and eat all the bad foods, biscuits, chocolates and things like that 😬🤦‍♀️ Most of the time, the only way to make the voice stop is by eating the bad foods!

Since I started taking the MySimba tablets, I haven’t had that voice telling me to go and eat all the sweets! 🥳

I hope that helps you 😊

Not usually each time but may depend on which prescriber.

Week 4/5 Review
(I walk around 12k steps a day and weight train twice a week. I am 45).

SW: 226.7
CW: 219.1
GW: 140

Lost this fortnight: 3.4lb
Lost in total: 7.6lb (if we ignore the last 30-ish years of yo-yoing)

Dose
2:2

Effects:
I’d not had a great week three so I upped the ante in week 4 and lost 3.4lb. It wasn’t too difficult. Was still hungry at times but found it much easier not to snack. However, once again, I’ve managed to override the effects in week 5 and lost nothing, due to some Christmas events / parties. My side effects are not massive but I do think this also means my overall ‘effects’ are less than for some people too.

Side effects
Minimal this week. Dry mouth occasionally. Weird dreams / disturbed sleep. Some headaches – not too bad.

I have felt slightly nauseous a couple of times and have read some stuff, and some accounts on here, which suggest that there is a cumulative effect for some people, in terms of the impact on appetite. So hopefully it will start to feel a bit more effective. I am definitely going to have to stay strong and mindful this week as Christmas Day and Boxing Day are going to be in next week’s weigh. Eeeeek.

GrownAndThriving · 26/12/2024 10:32

Hi everyone, I hope that you have had a lovely Christmas 🎄

I have been taking MySimba for just over 4 weeks now, the food noise seemed to disappear almost immediately, there have been a couple of minor side effects, such as dry mouth, slight nausea when hungry, but that’s about it. I knew that Christmas would be a testing time for me, surrounded by chocolates, biscuits, cakes etc, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the fact that the food noise has continued to remain silent. I can actually have 1 quality street chocolate if I want one, which is no longer every time I walk past the bowl 😂 I am also surprised by the fact that 1 sweet is sufficient, this must be how people without a food addiction feel 🥳 I am loving the food freedom, I haven’t put any pressure on myself with what to eat, what not to eat, I am just going with the flow and having whatever I fancy, as I now have confidence in the fact that I will no longer lose control!

Please let me know how you are doing, I hope you are enjoying the same freedom 😊 Here’s to a better 2025!

TFT · 02/01/2025 16:03

please forgive spelling or any commers or full stops as i have autism

SoulMole · 07/01/2025 15:59

Hello everyone. I’ve been popping the odd review on here to track progress and hopefully offer information for those yet to start.

I think I am about 7w in. On 2:2.

I did lose some weight at first but it is absolutely not ‘magic’ for me. It is just a helpful aid. Whilst my side effects have been minimal, I think the “good effects” have also been less for me than some people. I know some have no appetite at all etc. For me, I can just stick to my plans and choices a little more easily but it has to be at the forefront of my mind.

Anyway, I learnt a valuable lesson over the Christmas period and had a significant gain in a fortnight. So basically, it helps me when I am being mindful. But I can also very easily override it!

As a bit of an experiment, I started a five day juice fast. I am on day four now and have stuck to it easily. More easily than I think I would have without Mysimba. I have been hungry. I have been fed up and a little grumpy. However, I have not been tempted to eat, even though I have been preparing meals for my family. I’ve not been fantasising about food or planning my next meal So it is definitely a helpful tool in the arsenal against making poor choices.

(I’m not an advocate for quick fixes or fad diets but the Christmas gain was a really bother to me, and I wanted to see whether I could get it straight back off with a brutal few days. I’ll be back to mindful and moderate eating in a couple of days).

As a sidenote, I have noticed my vision is a tad blurry and have seen some other people mention this too. I had not linked it at first. I have reduced to 2:1 in the hope that this will help, without reducing the positive impact too much.

Was pleased to see your progress @grownandthriving

TidyLurker · 08/01/2025 18:48

Hi all,

im so pleased to see this thread is still active. I’ve just received my first prescription of Mysimba and absolutely terrified myself reading the patient information leaflet so was glad to read your experiences. This has reassured me!

I’ve managed to get myself into a great gym routine over the last 9 months or so, i get my steps in and my meals are healthy but have always tripped myself up with food cravings and snacking and totally relate to the food noise that you’ve been talking about! I’m hoping that with MySimbas help in reducing the food noise, I’ll be able to stay more in control or my eating and stick to the calorie controlled diet.

hopefully that the positives will outweigh any side effects!

Char99 · 08/01/2025 19:52

About to start tomorrow!! Really hoping for a positive start. Going in with a positive mindset so fingers crossed. Happy to have found a chat to share with 😀

SoulMole · 08/01/2025 20:41

Hi guys

Glad we revived this chat. I do think people are more inclined to post about bad side effects than if they have plain sailing, so some of the FB groups are a bit scary. I'm fine though. Some of the dreams have been wild however. 😆

TidyLurker · 08/01/2025 21:01

🤣 fingers crossed for some wild dreams! I usually have very mundane dreams where I’m shopping in Tesco or something 🤣🤣

GrownAndThriving · 09/01/2025 08:52

Hi everyone, lovely to see some new people on here starting out on their MySimba journey 👋🏻

I started taking MySimba at the end of November, so I am now on the 2:2 tablets with minimal side effects throughout. I was impressed with how quickly the food noise disappeared for me and thought that this medication was the answer to my prayers, but over the last week or so I have noticed that I am having to also be mindful of my eating and not rely on the pill to cure me completely. @SoulMole your words resonate with me completely, MySimba is definitely a tool and not the total solution. The food noise is still much quieter, but as the old saying goes ‘fail to prepare, prepare to fail’! I am very guilty of working through my lunch break and then giving in to hunger and grabbing the nearest sweet treat! 🤦‍♀️

So for the next week I am challenging myself to plan my meals and take my breaks! 🤞

Good luck everyone, looking forward to seeing your updates x
