Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back on track.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Feel free to share your own links, tips & recipes 👍

@Ninjachicken not sure if its the amount of carbs or simply the little bit of cheating here there and everywhere that's happening during these dark quiet days.

i do have access to the macro's on my cronometer food app but i don't understand it at all.
come spring when i can get back to more straight up veggies or fruit (vs cooked in casseroles) i'll focus on the breakdown and see if i can get my head around it.
i'd be a hopeless mess of diabetic that's for sure!!

Allthegoodnamestakken · 06/02/2023 05:56

Here's to a good week for everyone!

TheRealHousewife · 06/02/2023 07:05

Good Morning All

Hi @SanFranBear I like the sound of your spicy prawn dish! Love prawns as naturally low fat, low calorie and high protein 👍 Just wished they weren’t as expensive.

@AutisticLegoLover Well done on swerving the extras … when you achieve your goal you’ll be pleased you did! 👏 Love your still ball bouncing 😅 Happy Valley ending was fantastic, loved it!

Welcome to the thread @Rainforest6 Lovely to have you join us. I love a good wedding! What’s your plan? Planning is key to achieving success. You’ll get loads of support here; loads of inspiring and motivational women who are happy to advise and hand hold if needed 👍

Welcome to the thread @E30 , Good to see plenty of protein in your menu 👍 Do you like veg? You’d get plenty of beneficial fibre and a variety of nutrients if you included some 😬😊Ignore if you don’t like veg.

@Fara22 Sounds idyllic. 🥂Down time is so important and good for the soul.

@Cloudberries123 I totally agree with setting the tone of your intentions early in the day … does set the tone 👍

@buzzofthebumblebee Tasty menu you have there 😋

@orangegato Cake mix is very addictive 😬 Fresh start today 👍

I’m whooping here for you @greenspaces4peace Well deserved!

@Ninjachicken You weigh on which ever day suits you best. Some do daily, some do WOW (weigh on Wednesday), some never weigh. I sometimes do daily, especially if I’ve seen a gain and I’m eager to drop 😬

Menu
Meal 1 - Halloumi stir fry. Kale, carrot, onion, red pepper, butter beans, Halloumi, chilli oil.
Meal 2 - Roast Chicken, carrots, Brussels sprouts, chopped boiled potatoes in skin, cabbage and chicken gravy.

Oooo Read THIS

I always promote cleaning and closing the kitchen early evening to help prevent nighttime snacking. It also has other benefits 😬 Get scrubbing ladies 🧹

Good morning and happy Monday everyone, especially @Rainforest6 and @E30 great to have you with us.

Good start to the day here, had a leftover enchilada for breakfast and now a coffee before work. Feeling fairly energised despite a wakeup with the baby.

Off to read your link now RealHousewife with the rest of my coffee.

We've got this 💪🏻

SingaporeSlinky · 06/02/2023 08:58

Morning all. Weirdly I’d lost a pound yesterday, but today I’m 2 lbs up, so this is why I do it daily. If I’d weighed just once a week, I’d be wondering how I’ve managed to gain a lb, despite doing lots of exercise and eating well all week. I’m going to try and focus on the 1lb down, hope that was the accurate one, and try and drink plenty of water today.

I’m booked on 4 gym classes this week and will just keep on doing what I’ve been doing, diet wise. Got some salmon in for dinner. Planning my usual yoghurt and granola lunch. Will see what tomorrow brings.

Have a good week everyone!

ginsparkles · 06/02/2023 13:12

Morning all! Catching up with the thread!

Welcome @E30 and @Rainforest6

@Ninjachicken I'm a daily weigher, unless I'm in denial and then I avoid the scales!!!

Small changes I have decided are going to be key. Keeping myself accountable is the first one. So am weighing alongside my mum so we can keep each other on the straight and narrow.

Plan for today has been:
Banana for breakfast
Lunch was a prawn salad with yogurt and fruit.
Dinner pea and bacon risotto.
Have some extra fruit for snacks this afternoon.

SingaporeSlinky · 06/02/2023 13:41

@ginsparkles your menu today sounds perfect. I love pea and bacon (or chorizo) risotto!

I forgot to say earlier that this week’s NSV is that I’ve noticed my skin is a lot clearer this week. I break out along my jawline when I’ve had too much chocolate (probably sugar) and end up with weeks and weeks of angry looking spots. So it’s nice when it’s all calm.

Just been to spin class and have made myself a coffee because I almost reached for a kitkat.

ImALittlePea · 06/02/2023 15:51

Argh, MN just did the glitch on me and I lost my post 😭

So short version...

Hi, happy Monday!

Good weekend had. Nice food, drink and company. Lots of walking too.

Today's been a bit breadier than normal for me:
Lunch - 2 poached eggs, 2 rashers of grilled bacon, 1 slice of toast with butter
Dinner - beef burger (in a bun) with onion and cheese, homemade sweet potato wedges

Just updated MFP and that all comes in bang on my upper calorie limit for the day. So not kicking myself about the extra bread, normal lunch service will resume tomorrow ☺️

TTFN

Shortkiwi · 06/02/2023 16:56

Didn’t have a great day yesterday- had red wine and caramel popcorn after dinner - watching Happy Valley! Trying to eat healthily today but got some unhealthy cravings!

AutisticLegoLover · 06/02/2023 19:02

Dinner tonight was yogurt and berries because I had a Mexicans cheese and vegan Mayo bagel for lunch. I'm definitely hungrier the last 5 days and I'm not happy about it but I'm battling through it and just just saying no to any thoughts of anything. I hate that PMT lasts 2 weeks these days. I'm holding on to how I'll feel in the pool to keep me in the straight and narrow.

AutisticLegoLover · 06/02/2023 19:06

Mexicana that should say.

Ninjachicken · 06/02/2023 20:45

@SingaporeSlinky its crazy the fluctuation you can get in two days isn’t it!
i think I may start weighing more frequently @ginsparkles I can put on two kilos over a weekend so maybe it will help to see the ups and downs and I won’t get so disheartened if I don’t see a loss when I do weigh
ok day here. Didn’t eat until lunch and then had some lentils with some pork. got a bit snacky early evening so I had a banana and almond milk smoothie for dinner.
i know the weekend is going to be calorie heavy as we have family coming to stay so need to try and have a light week to compensate.

AutisticLegoLover · 06/02/2023 21:34

Right, I've been lying in bed reading and contemplating my goal of 60kg by a week on Friday. That's 13 days and about 1.75kg away. I'm going to have to up my game. My period is due in 7 days (well, whenever it feels like it) and I'll put on a pound or two then. I can't poop properly and need to up fibre and water and exercise and decrease calories. If I can do that for 10 of those days then I might stand a good chance of meeting my goal. I know it's an arbitrary number and it's silly really but I get fixated on these things. As soon as I hit 60kg then I'll ease up during my holiday. This is our first proper holiday in 7 years and is still only 4 days in the UK but it's important to us as a family. It will have to be 60kg dead on too knowing me 🙄 I can do this right?

TheRealHousewife · 06/02/2023 21:43

@AutisticLegoLover If I may be Frank (kindly, not harsh) If I’m honest and considering you’re allowing yourself 13 days; I think you’re putting yourself under a lot of pressure for an ‘arbitrary number’. By all means trim excess cals away, up the water, up the protein and fibre etc and see where you're at. Any loss will be a bonus as you don’t have a lot to lose overall. Imagine how your brain will feel if you ‘fail’ in your endeavours… it could shade your holiday. I know you want to enjoy your holiday fully and be relaxed and happy ❤️. Whatever you weigh you’ll look fabulous and glowing from all your ball bouncing!

ginsparkles · 06/02/2023 21:52

@Ninjachicken I use an app called happy scale which allows me to weigh daily and then it takes out the fluctuations and shows me progress. It's very useful!

Kitchen closed now, in bed and day planned out for tomorrow!

AutisticLegoLover · 06/02/2023 22:07

@TheRealHousewife a good point, I agree. I'll see how I go and try not to be too harsh on myself. I did want to get to 9st 3lb but that was never going to happen in the time frame, not if I was being sensible so 9st 5/6 was my compromise.

SanFranBear · 06/02/2023 23:00

It's ambitious, AutisticLegoLover but if you remain focused there's no reason you can't get there - especially with the amount of walking you do! And your holiday sounds perfect - a holiday is a holiday, wherever and for however long!

I've just eaten some chocolate popcorn, Shortkiwi - very much a weakness of mine and don't tend to have it in the house but did a fancy shop last week so popped some in. No more though - back on the straight and narrow!bi did eat pretty well the rslest of the day (weetabix, crackers & hummus and then chicken for tea!)

I've prepped my first ever overnight oats for the morning and am out for lunch so likely have soup or similar for tea to try and be below my calories - not easy at the mo as I'm eating everything like a mad thing! Getting in exercise too so hopefully not too rubbish but argh - bring on Spring is all I'll say!

I also love prawns, RealHousewife but rarely have them as DC aren't fans. As i was cooking just for grown ups though, dexided to treat us and I discovered frozen king prawns in Asda - a whopping 400g for £4 so definitely good value and will be purchasing again as they were delicious 😋 I should look in yhr frozen section more for fish and seafood as they're my absolute favourite and so healthy!

Right, bed is calling!

Allthegoodnamestakken · 07/02/2023 05:49

@Shortkiwi @SanFranBear Chocolate popcorn sounds delicious!
@AutisticLegoLover you can probably reach that goal but I agree with @TheRealHousewife don't put to much pressure on yourself. It is just a number and not worth ruining your holiday and mental state over!
Todays menu
Fruit and museli for brunch/lunch
Grilled fish fillets for dinner with steamed veggies and perhaps a nice lemon butter sauce.

AutisticLegoLover · 07/02/2023 07:07

Good morning all! I love butterkist toffee popcorn but haven't tried chocolate popcorn.

Thank you for the encouragement and concern, both are appreciated. It's my nature to become a bit obsessed with things.

I had a surprise this morning. I'd not weighed myself properly for a few days so I was digressing from what I weighed clothed. This morning I was brave and was rewarded with 61.1kg! I am still going to increase my fibre, exercise and water but not worry overly much about the calories, they can stay where they are pretty much.

My oats and seeds are soaking. I was going to cut out the banana as it's been adding 105 calories to breakfast but the fibre and other nutrients make it worthwhile and I'm no longer hungry straight after the school run.

My Fitbit tiles are crazy again this week. Last weeks were awful but I did it by Thursday evening which is the longest time it's ever taken me. I still won the workweek hustle, I've attached last weeks. It took some doing and I find it demotivating if they giám are too big. Does anyone else Fitbit?

Thanks all for the welcome. I'm just calorie counting atm and trying to move a bit more. I struggle to exercises so I'm hoping once my weight is down a bit, it will become a bit easier

Have been doing well food wise, then last night we had a tofu dish that we have regularly. Completely forgot that while it's mostly healthy that it also has 2 tablespoons of butter in it 🙄

Currently trying to think of a good Valentines meal to serve up without breaking the calorie bank.

TheRealHousewife · 07/02/2023 10:40

Good morning Everyone 😊

@AutisticLegoLover Im loving your activity tiles but I’ll admit I don’t really understand them 😬. I’m sure it all means you’ve moved a lot, so we’ll done👍👏. Weight loss wise, fingers crossed, you never know 👍

@Ninjachicken i second @ginsparkles recommendation about Happy Scale. You can break down your goal into small increments and get a fanfare when you meet each one 😬

@SanFranBear I’ll look out for the Asda prawns next time I’m in there. Thanks for the pointer.

Menu
Meal 1 - Mediterranean omelette and side salad
Meal 2 - Mini roast chicken dinner from left overs. Mixed berries and Greek yoghurt.
Tea, black coffee and water.

Exercise
No formal stuff today but plenty of household jobs 🧹 🧼

Enjoy your day!
