Diet for Christmas challenge

OhFatty · 24/07/2022 15:30

I know it’s boiling hot and far too early but does anyone want to start a Christmas diet?

I’ve got a LOT to lose and in June I set myself a target of 4 stone by Christmas. So far I’ve lost 1 stone 3, so starting today my new target is going to be 40lbs by Christmas (although more would be very welcome 😀) My weigh day is Monday. I’ll update here every week, and hopefully some others will join me?

My condolences too @OhFatty

Also wanted to say, @TheBatwoman you are absolutely smashing it! You've been so consistent, that's a fantastic loss and well done for managing that with those big changes to adjust to too 👏

Londonlassy · 12/09/2022 11:54

If it’s not to late. I’d really like to join. My goal is todrop a dress size by Christmas. My main hurdle is processed food. My focus this week is whole foods and exercising

OhFatty · 12/09/2022 12:51

I signed up for the nhs 12 week diet and fitness thing, and have just heard from the lady. My group is on a Friday, and I’m doing it from home. From what I can gather it’s a half hour talk and half hours exercise (I think). I’m allowed to keep my camera off!

Im in Hampshire and it’s called ShapeUp4Life, but I think all counties are doing it

Lost 5lbs this week!

@TheBatwoman It must be really hard! I hope it’s all going well

Fantastic loss fatty!

just back from my run :)

Fiftysixthnamechange · 12/09/2022 16:50

Wow @OhFatty well done! Bumped into someone at the supermarket yesterday who I haven't seen since about June, she commented on how much weight I'd lost, especially off my face, I wish she'd tell the bloody scales!
I've decided to start calorie counting which I've avoided so far because I find it soul destroyingly dull but needs must. I can't tweak anything else, I'm exercising for Britain and everything is fresh and healthy so I'm going to give it a whirl.

OhFatty · 12/09/2022 17:55

@Fiftysixthnamechange Thats do lovely that she noticed! What you’re doing is working!

I do understand what you mean though. It’s really important to see the scales move, just do you know that what you’re doing is right. These last few weeks I’ve been trying so hard, dieting and exercising, and yet the scales barely moved, and it just didn’t seem right. I felt different, my clothes felt different, I just didn’t (and still don’t) know what I was doing wrong. Bodies are very weird.

I don’t think calorie counting will be as bad as you think. I use the free version of My fitness pal. I quite enjoy it! It feels like a faff at first but it gets much easier. Some things are surprising - I’ve had steak a few times and it’s quite low, so I was going to make a beef casserole yesterday with some frozen chunks of beef we had in the freezer, but they were REALLY high.

Good Luck

@OhFatty when I do a slow cooker beef casserole I don't eat the meat or the dumplings, just the veg. You still get lots of flavour from the gravy and I have lots of green veg on the side. It's still satisfying but not as calorific. Sometimes I allow myself a couple of boiled potatoes that I mas into the gravy. Yum!

Readytostartagain · 12/09/2022 20:24

1.5lb off for me please @OhFatty and sorry to hear you had a bad week

OhFatty · 12/09/2022 21:59

I’m ok @Readytostartagain . Thank you though. She’s been I’ll for a few years and getting worse and worse. I think it might have been a relief for her parents and son in some ways that the suffering ended.

Morning all. Yesterday was an OK day food wise for me but I've not really done any exercise the last few days so need to change that.

I used to do running because I could just do a twenty minute run/jog without any prep or organisation but I don't really enjoy it that much. However, for the sake of doing something today think I might just have to bite the bullet and go for a run.

OhFatty · 13/09/2022 13:22

I’m in awe of those of you that run

@clpsmum that's a good idea from @TalkToTheHand123 about soup, or even just a bouillon cube and hot water in a pinch. I like crunchy snacks so I eat salted plain popcorn, gherkins, frozen berries, or even ice if it's late in the day and I haven't many calories left. A cup of sauerkraut is also filling and low calorie.

Buglin · 13/09/2022 15:39

I think I've lost a couple pounds since last week but the loss on the scales is covered up by PMT bloat and still reading 10 stone 12

😒I am also impressed by people who manage to exercise regularly. I wish I could stick to an exercise routine

Lysianthus · 14/09/2022 01:11

@OhFatty I'm sorry, life, a water leak and other things got in the way. I've now got scales, thanks to all who suggested, and today was 13'3.
Good luck to everyone this week.

MuddyBoo · 14/09/2022 07:33

Well, don't be in awe of me because the run didn't happen yesterday...I got caught up booking a holiday for next year and missed my running opportunity

New plan for today is to go for a walk whilst DD has her Gymnastics lesson this evening

I've not done any exercise for a few days now and really need to get back on it.

christmas2022 · 14/09/2022 08:09

Oh I wish I wish I could be consistent with exercise. I actually enjoy the gym when I go but I'll do 3 x days per week, then none, then 1 then none then 3 again.

I'm rubbish! I just don't know how to make it a habit and build it into my life. I also take the mildest excuse not to go even though I enjoy it. Strange!

christmas2022 · 14/09/2022 08:10

@OhFatty

The 12 week plan sounds like a great idea, good luck for Friday and let us know how you get on.

Sometimes they go over stuff that we all know, but revisiting it helps bring the information to the forefront of our mind.

Fab weight loss this week by the way! You knew you were doing everything right x

OhFatty · 14/09/2022 08:44

But at least you’re doing it @christmas2022. I think you’re brilliant. I read once that it takes 21 days to make a habit. I don’t know how true that is. It’s really good that you enjoy it once you’re there, and you must feel so happy once you’ve finished. Is there any low cost, non food item that you’d like every week that you can get/have/watch/do once you’ve been to the gym three times in a week? You’d certainly deserve it!

christmas2022 · 14/09/2022 14:54

Low cost. Non food. I'll have to think about that one.

So used to rewarding myself with food or alcohol.

(Or both)

MuddyBoo · 15/09/2022 07:53

Woop woop! After 4 days of being 10st9 without the slightest sign of a shift, today the scales dropped to 10st6.

I think the good things from yesterday were going for a walk and not having any carbs with my dinner (though did have carbs earlier in the day).

But last couple of weeks I've made a good loss midweek and then regained half of it by Sunday. So my challenge is to at least maintain this until Sunday, my official weigh in day.

christmas2022 · 15/09/2022 08:16

Well done @MuddyBoo

It's great when you're doing well and it finally shows through on the scales.

I'm the same that my weight creeps back up over the weekend. Also find that if I have a couple of carb heavy days that makes a difference too.

ShakeItOff40 · 15/09/2022 11:05

Hi, can I join in? Aiming for 1stone loss by Christmas, or at least to be steadily on my way and not up and down if that makes sense?

Weakest moments are alcohol, beige food, and also family treat nights.

I've posted in other threads (holding myself accountable and a bit obsessive in a hope it will keep me going! Trigger was actually that I might actually have mind time - both kids no longer need me for school run hurrah!

I've really cut back on alcohol this week, nothing Monday or Tuesday, 2 glasses of wine last night. I'm calorie counting loosely around macros. I'm trying to be really balanced, but this morning I'm tired and hangry and wish the scales would show a half stone loss on day 4 which is ridiculous!

I'm going to go back and read all your stories, I've skimmed, and it all sounds really positive.

Stepcount · 15/09/2022 13:36

Hi all, still staying pretty much on track. I manage my daytime intake pretty well and if I am busy or distracted I often don’t feel hungry. I am however getting moments of feeling quite fed up that I can’t just eat exactly what I want and that this is going to have to become my way of life, no chance of keeping my weight at an acceptable level if I return to old habits.
Another lb off so hopeful for a loss to log on Sunday.

Julesni77 · 15/09/2022 16:41

Not a great week for me @OhFatty +0.5lbs Terrible transition back to school for my boy twin who has been on the list for ASD assessment so very stresssful week all round and i admit I turn to gin and snacks!

Onwards and upwards hopefully he will settle!
