What do you do to loose weight

Changeusernamee · 06/07/2022 21:29

15kg to loose. I am so fed up with myself but just cannot do it. No power after work and handling toddler and the whole house. I am not in any rush and do not expect 5 kgs per month. I just want some progress. And its not like i dont have a knowledge. Oh i do, i know all the stuff, i know what i do wrong too and still…what do you do? Feel pathetic.

Is it time and organisation or motivation you feel you're lacking?

Chocbuttonsandredwine · 06/07/2022 21:38

Cut out carbs completely: 10-15k steps a day. Eat between 10am and 6pm only:

BIWI · 06/07/2022 21:39

Don't cut out carbs completely! You need to eat plenty of veg/salad - all of which are carbs. If you cut these out you will be depriving yourself of important nutrition.

Changeusernamee · 06/07/2022 21:42

I have heard of that 16:8 diet or something, but is it a real thing now? Dieticians have been saying breakfast is the most important bla bla, cant skip it, so now it has changed 180 degrees?
@Justmuddlingalong i dont know. Nothing motivates me. I am very very organized and could find at least two evenings to do some exercises and could watch what i eat, but i just cant. 15 is not that much. could achieve it in even 4 months if i stick with exercises and healthy life style. Literally nothing motivates me

Look up mysimba (contrave in America). It has changed both mine and my husband’s lives by freeing us of cravings and food addiction. It’s honestly the will power neither of us have ever had! Best of luck xx

Justmuddlingalong · 06/07/2022 21:49

I listen to BIWI and all the other low carb bootcampers on her threads. In just under 10 weeks I've lost 24lbs, currently just over 9 and a half stone. I've really stuck to this WOE, not farted about half heartedly and it's paying off. I'm not an exercising person and don't plan on starting now, but I can assure you that for many of us, low carbing is a revelation.

Avacadoandtoast · 06/07/2022 21:49

I don’t know the answer - I too have a toddler and am shattered all the time, I just wanted to say you aren’t pathetic though. If it were easy everyone would be fit and healthy.
Can you change one thing a day? So when you do have the ability to make lower calorie choices you make them - fruit salad instead of toast for breakfast, apple instead of crisps for a snack etc.
I went to SlimmingWorld pre kids and I loved it - but I struggle to attend class now because of kids, so I imagine you might have the same issue!
Main thing is you want to do it - believe in yourself and go for it!!

Changeusernamee · 06/07/2022 22:06

@Justmuddlingalong can you post a link to the thread you are talking about please?

There's hundreds of threads, low carb has it's own section on MN. It's a knowledgeable, friendly and supportive bunch of people who'll keep you right if you decide to give it a try.

Indigoo03 · 06/07/2022 22:30

I think simply try drinking a cup of water every time you want to snack ...often you forget about it and then you eat your meal normally....as a start!

Herejustforthisone · 07/07/2022 08:31

I can’t understand why people don’t exercise or ever ‘plan on exercising’. It’s so important.

OddBoots · 07/07/2022 08:42

I am always better at managing my weight if I keep a food diary, it can be MFP or another online place, a word document or pen and paper but just keeping an honey account of the food I eat (and it has to be honest) is the first step in making a plan for me.

OddBoots · 07/07/2022 08:42

sorry, that should be honest not honey, but you probably knew that.

Because they have other priorities? I can’t understand why people won’t volunteer to be our Beaver leader when I can and do despite DH and me both working FT. If I didn’t do that I’d have more me time!

Being a beaver leader doesn’t help keep your cardiovascular system healthy though does it? Quite the opposite I’d imagine. 😬

@Justmuddlingalong can you post a link to the thread you are talking about please?

Here's a link to the low carb Bootcamp topic

We're not 'in' a Bootcamp right now, but the next one will be starting on 25 July, and will run for 8 weeks, if that's any help!

If you read any of the week-by-week chat threads you'll see a link to the spreadsheet that we use, and on one of those tabs is the rules of Bootcamp

BIWI · 07/07/2022 10:29

@Changeusernamee and this thread, of FAQs might help you too!

Justmuddlingalong · 07/07/2022 10:45

Let me explain for those who don't understand why I don't exercise.
I don't have the time.
I don't enjoy it.
I'm very active, day to day.
I prefer to spend my free time doing other things.
I'm happy with my fitness level.
No one else is impacted by the fact I do no organised exercise.

I mentioned the lack of exercise to encourage the OP that if she chooses to alter her diet, but is too busy and short on time for classes etc, it's not the end of the world.

BIWI · 07/07/2022 10:54

Exercise, while very good for your health, really doesn't have much impact on weight loss - unless you do a LOT of it, every day.

According to Dr Jason Fung, who wrote The Obesity Code, weight loss is 95% about diet and 5% about weight loss.

So don't panic/stress if you haven't got time!

junebirthdaygirl · 07/07/2022 11:49

Could you forget about losing weight for the moment and just take up one exercise for fun. I find when l exercise and begin to feel fitter and a bit toned my desire to eat rubbish just falls away. So perhaps just for the rest of the Summer do some fun outdoor stuff which is good for your mental health if nothing else. The more you move the less bothered you will be about bad eating.

Wow
This is amazing. Well done you

Chattycathydoll · 07/07/2022 12:09

The only thing that helped me was accepting that I just couldn’t fucking do it when I had a toddler.

I just stayed chubby and survived.

Then DD was no longer a toddler, I wasn’t exhausted all the bloody time, and could get back on with exercise and reasonable eating.

I know this doesn’t really help OP, but if nothing does, maybe just cut yourself a bit of slack? The utter mind melting exhaustion stage really doesn’t last forever and then you can rejig priorities.

If you are ‘very active’ every day then that is, to a degree, exercise though? Exercise isn’t just fitness classes and gym visits.

How did you get a prescription for this?

Tbh I am inspired by the ultra processed food thread here
