I need a weight loss buddy! PLEASE

mumofone1980 · 15/06/2022 15:58

Im nearly 42, 5ft 2 and 14 stone.

I keep trying and failing to loose weight.

I think I need a buddy to help me along and vice versa.

I want to get down to about 11 stone as a start point and see how I feel from there, I am so miserable I just cant go on like this and being overweight and living in jeans ANOTHER summer. I say next year I wont be big and uncomfy next summer and here I am 😞

Is anyone up for it?

Perfect how do we go about it? I was thinking I will weigh first thing in the morning then post here I bet I am over 14 stone now 🙄.

I need to up my exercise saying that I do walk for an hour most days but really its my food I need to log everything and go back to basics and not forget to log the 4 oreos I shove in my mouth when I walk in the door from work.

I don't know if you guys would want a third - I have a lot to lose. I weighed myself the day after my 48th birthday (exactly one month ago) and realised in the cold light of day something I sort of knew already at some level. I was the heaviest I had ever been at 20 stone 2lbs. I am 5'6. It's horrific and I hate what I do to myself and that I likely pass on my unhealthy issues to my teenage daughter.
I am taking it very slow - ultimately the goal is to be a healthy weight by the time I turn 50. I haven't quantified what that would be - it seems too overwhelming a task. So I've broken it into chunks. I have a big work dinner on 15th Oct - I want to be 17 stone 13 by then. Then I will set a new goal.
I have been tracking calories on myfitnesspal, weighing once a week and walking at least 10k steps 5 days a week. So far I have lost 9lbs - I have another weigh-in tomorrow.
But I need accountability and I don't want to go public with my family.
Am I too big a project (in every sense) for you?

Me!

I lost around 5kg this year, then fell off the track (a week off lead to 2 weeks off lead to 2 months off) and have put some on.

I'm 38, 5ft 3 and 82.7kg.

I started back on Monday

I love Nutracheck I had it for the last 2 years and it ran out so I thought Id try MFP as its free and the free nutracheck you can only add 5/6 items and I dont want to pay for it at the moment as we are moving house and every penny saved helps x

I really need to work on my water intake too.

It's so important for weightloss and I'm really bad at drinking regularly!

Thanks so much.
This is very exciting. Back in the day WW worked for me (like 25+years ago) and it will feel a bit like a mini meeting of support but also accountability!
Happy to add friends on mfp which I do recommend for ease of use, no fee and mindfulness as to what you are putting in to yourself.

Why is water good for weightloss - is it the filling you up without calories or something more scientific?

Can I please join? I've been putting off losing weight as im really busy with work, but I need to join something.

Like the idea of adding people on mfp so I can keep my weight limited to the few who are friends with me. People I know irl are on here, and I too don't want to go public yet! So yeah, a check in day and accountability would be great 😊

Me!

I'm 16 stone 5 and would love to get down to 12 and a half. I have a wedding in 5 weeks and want to be as close to 15 as possible by then as I bought a dress for a different wedding last year (when I was 15 and a half stone) that I didn't end up wearing it was slightly unflattering on my belly. I think if I can get to 15 stone it will look ok with Spanx!

I have re started tracking on MFP and doing at least 10k steps a day, just trying to psych myself up to getting back to gym classes, I really enjoy them when I go but after not being for the last 4 months I know the DOMS after my first class will be agony and write me off for two days!

My main issue is snacking during the day (WFH) and alcohol, I only drink at weekends but even one drink leads me to gaining 2lb+ and undo's my week of hard work..the alcohol is going to be tricky though as I have a 10 day festival coming up arghh.

@ThistimeIreallymeanit I don't know the science behind it but find drinking a lot of water has a huge effect on my weight loss and I notice it when I don't drink enough. I aim for 3L a day (normally it's more like 2.25L) which sounds daunting but after the first few weeks I found it quite easy, so you need to wee a lot though!

I'll join in if that's OK?

I'm also 42, 5'1" and starred this year at just over 14st! I'm currently 12st 12lbs. I've been doing slimming world but lost my mojo over the last couple of months.

I'm back on it a vengeance today. My goal is to be 100% on plan and walk 30 mins each day. I have been ridiculously inactive since WFH.

Do you have a plan for how you're going to shift the weight?

Ok - so on mfp my user name is ThistimeIreallymeanit111 if anyone wants to link up there too. I've never done that before on it so should be interesting.
Welcome Limes and Cazza.
I aim to keep it simple - stick to the calorie limit given by mfp, up the movement as much as possible and try to create new habits.
My biggest danger spots are where I don't see a result. If i have a week without any loss I can become really disheartened and reject all progress in the manner of a toddler having a meltdown. It's amazing how quickly i can self sabotage!

@ThistimeIreallymeanit I'm similar. I've had to stop weighing myself daily because it was having a similar effect on me. I do better when I don't weigh myself as often!

Ok - so feeling super-positive today. Pleased we have group support now and just done my weekly weigh-in and lost 3lbs (12lbs loss in total) - I had stifled disappointment at only a 1lb loss last week and this seems to explain that. But it highlights what I was saying before - last week was a bit flat, today I'm up in the alt. I would really like not to connect my emotional well-being to my weight or the food I consume!
Hope you all have a good day.

Can I join? I lost about 5 stone on a Mumsnet thread ten years ago (when I was 40). The weight stayed low ish but with Covid I just gave up exercising and just ordered takeaways all the time as homeschooling was too stressful.

I have no idea how much I weigh - I would guess 12 st and I want to be 9. I’m 5ft 4 so every lb shows.

Im going to try to log 1200 cals a day on my fitness pal.

op I’m sorry to hear about the funeral, I hope you’re ok.

Weighed in at 16 st 5 this morning.

My calorie goal is 1700 but I try to stay closer to 1500 so that I have a bit of wiggle room at the weekends.

If you are using MFP it's worth checking your calorie goal to what an online TDEE calculator says because MFP seems to give everyone goals between 1000-1400 but for a lot of people that's not enough, it says I should have 1200 but I would never keep it up if I was restricting myself that much. If I stick to 1700 religiously I always lose at least 2lb a week.
