Im nearly 42, 5ft 2 and 14 stone.

I keep trying and failing to loose weight.

I think I need a buddy to help me along and vice versa.

I want to get down to about 11 stone as a start point and see how I feel from there, I am so miserable I just cant go on like this and being overweight and living in jeans ANOTHER summer. I say next year I wont be big and uncomfy next summer and here I am 😞

Is anyone up for it?

I second this on the numbers. A lot of your calorie limits seemed horribly low to me and I just wouldn't stick to them. I've been allotted 1904 by mfp and I keep to it over the week if not always per day and it largely seems to work.

Bluesky4567 · 16/06/2022 16:43

Can I join please? Need some accountability, 12.4 this morning and my goal is to get to 11 but first target is 11.10. With PCOS I seem to have to eat very little in order to actually lose, but I want to get into some dresses for my holiday.
Today I am doing fasting, had a big lunch and will eat again for breakfast! No idea if it’ll help, whatever I do I seem to lose then gain the same few lbs 🙄
Anyway, good luck to you all! Hope we can all support each other on our journeys!

Can I join? I lost about 5 stone on a Mumsnet thread ten years ago (when I was 40). The weight stayed low ish but with Covid I just gave up exercising and just ordered takeaways all the time as homeschooling was too stressful.

I have no idea how much I weigh - I would guess 12 st and I want to be 9. I’m 5ft 4 so every lb shows.

Im going to try to log 1200 cals a day on my fitness pal.

op I’m sorry to hear about the funeral, I hope you’re ok.

Thank you , the funeral was beautiful it was a lovely day if you can say such a thing about a funeral.

5 stone on a mumsnet thread thats amazing and gives me hope!

Thank you!

I am feeling positive and determined x

Weighed in at 16 st 5 this morning.

My calorie goal is 1700 but I try to stay closer to 1500 so that I have a bit of wiggle room at the weekends.

If you are using MFP it's worth checking your calorie goal to what an online TDEE calculator says because MFP seems to give everyone goals between 1000-1400 but for a lot of people that's not enough, it says I should have 1200 but I would never keep it up if I was restricting myself that much. If I stick to 1700 religiously I always lose at least 2lb a week.

1000000% second this! I use James Smith Calculator and if I stick to that like you I loose every week! Its just the sticking to it I struggle with.

@mumofone1980 yes it's the sticking to it that is my downfall Grin.

Glad to funeral went as well as can be expected.

Glad funeral went well.

Thanks for all the suggestions on calorie limits - it's really interesting checking out the variations. I think long term there is no point having wildly restrictive intake - I just will give up very quickly and I have to be in this for the long term given the amount I have to lose. It's got to be changing habits over month rather than short bursts.

I had to go out for a curry with work people last night. I was careful with calories during the day, did a lot of steps and chose more wisely than usual. Not quite within limits but not horrific. And I limited myself to a quarter of a naan and left the rest for others. You can tell the will is strong for the moment at least.

I am 100% with you I couldnt do a 1200 calorie a day no way Id end up bingeing, James Smith has given me 1780 but Im going with 1600 as thats about right for me!

Today I have been on 2 half hour walks as I sit on my arse all day at work, Ive not been to the shop to get crisps and choc so thats a bonus and Im going to enjoy my burger and chips for dinner later (smaller portion)!

Well done on quarter of a naan strong will power there x

Just checking in after our first weekend!

Friday night and Saturday my healthy eating went out of the window (as it always bloody does argh) but Friday night was actually due to being stuck on a motorway for 3 hours and Saturday I knew I would struggle as I was going out so I'm trying not to beat myself up to much.

HOWEVER I have managed to pull it back today instead of carrying on in a downward spiral and for the first time in a long time I have hit 70k steps for the week so I'm pretty happy overall.

I've done a proper meal plan for this week and I'm going to try my hardest to get as much protein as possible (I've recently gone veggie so still struggling with this). I'm out for my mums birthday one night but we are going to a Turkish restaurant so it should be relatively easy to get something healthy, and then Saturday again will be a bad day as it's an annual event where I live and I will be out all day with little access to healthy food but far too easy access to alcohol Blush. It's the first time it's been able to go ahead since 2019 so I'm not going to restrict myself at all, just stick to being as healthy as possible the rest of the week.

Exercise wise my aim for this week is to keep up with the 70k steps and also get out on my new bike at least 3 evenings.

Hope everyone else has had a good weekend and is feeling positive for the week ahead!

ThistimeIreallymeanit · 19/06/2022 22:00

Well, Bravo Limes for managing to pull it back - at the start of a renewed health surge I can be really thrown off course if events intervene and i don't keep on track. It is so tempting to just go "Ah screw it!" and spiral down.

As you have done - focussing on the positives is key and getting your 70k steps in and re-setting your mind are far more important than two evenings.

I've been working most of the weekend as i have a big week ahead in work and to be honest am stressed. But that means I have pretty much stuck to limits which is promising at this stage of the 7 day cycle.

When do most people weigh in? I'm a Thursday - gives me time to recover from a weekend if necessary but doesn't disrupt end of week pleasures.

Whatinthe · 20/06/2022 06:24

Could I please join you? I was just coming on here to start a thread about being so fed up with starting each week with the intention of eating well and cutting out sugar but then I fail before Monday is over 🤦‍♀️ I think accountability is the only way I'm going to manage to break the cycle.

I'm 11st12lb and would love to get down to 9st7lb. I have MFP (the free version), can I also join you on there please?

firefly123 · 20/06/2022 06:43

Please may I join if not too late! Fat and fed up. Weighing in at 85.6 kg, 43 years old and 5ft 3 😁. Need to sort myself out. Planning low carb, water and more walking

LimesandClementines · 20/06/2022 06:56

@ThistimeIreallymeanit well done for sticking to it this weekend, I hope your work week goes well. I weigh daily and look at my weekly average as I find that works best for me but I know that doesn't work for a lot of people, I'm happy to still do a weekly weigh on a Thursday for this thread though if others are going to.

Welcome @Whatinthe @firefly123 I'm another who has previously lost weight on a Mumsnet thread (about 7 years ago!) and the accountability really helps.

Whatinthe · 20/06/2022 07:17

Thank you @LimesandClementines ! I'm going to try to check in daily here, hopefully knowing I'm going to be posting here will keep me on track. Weighing in on a Thursday is good for me.

I struggle to keep tracking calories but I eat a ridiculous amount of sugary stuff at the moment so my first goal is to cut that out. I got in a really bad habit of emotional eating and have struggled to break the cycle.

mumofone1980 · 20/06/2022 08:57

Morning all!

Anyone is welcome to join! Ive been rubbish at checking in but I have been doing on in the background making sure I close all my rings on my iwatch! I did drink friday and saturday its normally only once a week if that but we had such a stressful week (funeral and house move falling through) I thought sod it! Im not about to be dieting and not living too it has to be a lifestyle change for me not a cut everything I enjoy out and more about doing it but in moderation.

If I havent lost thursday I wont do what I normally do and binge and ruin all my efforts, slowy slowly and all that!

Welcome to all the new people starting this. Im on MFP too drop your usernames and ill give you a follow!

x

Hi everyone,

I would love to join! Need to shift over 2 stone after having my baby girl at the end of Feb. Not had the inclination or energy after a difficult pregnancy and delivery until I stepped on the scales at the weekend and took some measurements. We are having her christened in a couple of months as a positive celebration of her life and a chance to actually see family and friends after all the shielding etc. so would love to be slimmer by then and feel better in myself.

Cazs818 · 21/06/2022 10:26

I’m struggling too 🙈

current stats 40 years old , 5ft 4 , 13st 3 lb nothing fits I’m the heaviest I’ve every been

recently separated and been reaching for anything to shove in my mouth which isn’t helping

ideally I’ll like to get back to around 9st

Whatinthe · 21/06/2022 22:03

Haven't had the best start to the week but partly due to prior plans and chocolate lying around in the cupboard...I'm shopping tomorrow and vow to skip that aisle!

I wondered if anyone would like to share their go to healthy meals/snacks and exercise plans? I would love some ideas, especially for breakfast and lunch.

I've just made up some oats, milk and frozen berries to sit overnight, think I'll alternate between that, weetabix, and yoghurt. I find I need a filling breakfast or I just want to snack all morning.

For lunch I'm going to try to have something egg based most days, but dinner will just have to be whatever we're having as a family.

I used Lucy Wyndham-Read's YouTube channel for exercise previously, love how quick and realistic her videos are. I do have a Jillian Michaels DVD somewhere though...maybe I'll threaten myself with that if I don't stick to my plan 😂

TwoBlueFish · 21/06/2022 22:39

I’ll join you as well if that’s ok. I’m 50, 5’6” and current 92kgs (about 14.5 stone). I lost about 20kgs over lockdown and have put about 9kgs back on over the last year. Left my quite active job, , started HRT and my willpower just seems to have disappeared!

Back logging on NutraCheck and trying to walk more. I’d like to loose around a stone by the middle of September when I have a family get together.

does anyone else have a Fitbit?

firefly123 · 21/06/2022 22:43

So things are not going well so far. Eating too many carbs I think which is making me v lethargic and wanting to eat more carbs!!! Have no willpower despite the fact I am.going to have to fit into a swim suit in 6 weeks. Arghh. So ashamed of myself. Tomorrow is a new day. I will do better. How's everyone else?

mumofone1980 · 22/06/2022 08:25

Im having an awful week the irony of me starting the thread and me struggling! Ive been fine at work then when I get home Im eating crisps before dinner WHY!!! Im making myself miserable!!!

OP posts:
TwoBlueFish · 22/06/2022 08:32

That’s me as well. My worst snack time is while making dinner, piece of toast, bag of crisps, snack bar, etc. it’s complete self sabotage and I hate myself while I’m doing it. during lockdown I identified crisps as one of my big downfalls and gave them up completely for several months. I’m just starting back up again.

the thing that helped before and that I’m restarting is cutting up a couple of carrots as I start cooking or chewing a piece of gum or having a polo. Anything to keep my mouth busy!
