A Warm Welcome to New and existing Members alike! Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fasting and eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Oh that was definitely me 😊 it’s just the days are melting into one these days 😂😂 always feel free to give me a nudge if you want a chat 😊
Crazzzycat · 12/02/2022 18:30

I know I’m late to the party, but happy birthday @SunshineCake1.

I’ve rowed enough this week to earn a special rowing-themed Valentine’s card. DH was well impressed when I sent it to him. How could he not be?! 😂

The scales still aren’t moving here and I’m starting to get a bit frustrated, but I guess all I can do is just keep trying. As well as an epic rowing session to earn myself this wonderful Valentine’s card, I’ve also been for a long hill walk in appalling weather. Hopefully that’s enough to see a result sometime soon 🤞

Thank you @Crazzzycat.

Had a lovely day except for missing DD hugely and worrying about her.

Had nice food, nice cake, now on the alcohol. Probably crisps later but don't care. Will be back running next week hopefully.

swampytiggaa · 12/02/2022 20:21

You got a couple of good photos from me too @SunshineCake1 😂😂

Think I’ve wrecked my knees 😭😭 might go for a walk in the morning stretch them out. Currently they really hurt walking up and down stairs 😭😭

SunshineCake1 · 12/02/2022 20:26

I did. One nearly gave me a heart attack!

Take care of those knees.

I've had too much alcohol.

swampytiggaa · 12/02/2022 21:15

I’ve had a large gin for you @SunshineCake1 so happy birthday 🥳

SunshineCake1 · 12/02/2022 22:16

Well done @swampytiggaa!

Whichonetochoose1 · 12/02/2022 22:47

Hi all, can I please join? I was on this thread last year (probably a different username!) But life just got in the way, I have three little ones and find it so hard to not reach for some chocolate when energy is low, but my littlest is now 18 months & I'm starting to see things getting a bit easier so would love to do something for myself! I'm hoping this thread will help keep me motivated and in check! I have a plan made out for myself, it'll require a little extra work/ food prep but hopefully I can stick to it!

spicedsoup · 12/02/2022 22:57

Hi @Whichonetochoose1 I’ve only just joined the thread, but your point of reaching out for chocolate for energy resonates so hello and welcome! I find eating low carb massively kicks out my cravings, I’m here to lose pregnancy weight gain, but I moved to low carb a few years back as it helps with my health condition so appreciate it’s not a longer term change everyone wants to make! Good on you for focusing on yourself Smile

@Crazzzycat you might get a woosh at some point!

My brain was motivated today but not my body Grin started doing lots of things then realised my energy was rapidly depleting! Since DC4’s birth the first few days of my period wipe out my energy, which is where I am now. But, very pleased to say I’ve been eating whole foods, low carb, home made etc. Keeping my sights very realistic, if I can shift a few pounds by March I’ll be happy that I’m off to a productive start (more would be awesome of course Grin ).

icklekid · 13/02/2022 05:17

Anyone else dreading the half term inevitable grazing? I’m a teacher so off with me 2 for the next week. Only 2 weeks in and lost 6lb but determined to get another loss even if only small… I need to keep busy out of the house, avoid cafes and yet also not spend too much money. Here’s hoping the weather forecast is wrong!! 😂

TheRealHousewife · 13/02/2022 07:29

Good Morning All

A warm welcome to thread @Whichonetochoose1 as @spicedsoup soup wrote, going lower carb/no refined sugar etc tempers down cravings after only a couple of days. You’ve got this 👍

@icklekid could you plan to eat something before trips out (high protein, moderate fat, low carb) so that you won’t want less healthy stuff when out? I usually take some healthy snacks in the car with me like nuts, boiled egg, quinoa salad etc and also a flask of hot water to make a hot drink. Not always easy when you have young children though. Let us know how you go. Congrats on your loss to date.

Morning all.

Currently 330 calories over for the week (my week in nutracheck is set Wed - Tue), mostly due to a weak moment last night when DH suggested crisps! Still in credit when exercise is factored in, but I'm a bit annoyed with myself as I have a few half term treats planned with DC over next couple of days which involved good and calories!

But will keep up the exercise and try to make healthier menu choices.

Yes, absolutely dreading it! Just going to have to exercise as much willpower as possible... Somehow. Good luck to everyone on the school break this week!

Yes really good plan - I’ll try and take sensible snacks and stick to coffee when out, at least 2 weeks of sugar free means the craving generally isn’t there! Thanks for support
spicedsoup · 13/02/2022 09:38

For half term treats I figure you have to just enjoy them, if they’re proper treats (eg not just convenience) and you’re eating sustainably the rest of the time.

We’ve got a trip planned with the DCs in March which involves food (it is a part of the trip!), so will enjoy that. But likely wouldn’t eat much else that day apart from maybe some protein.

On a more typical day out (we’re out regularly), we usually stick to just some coffee when out and eat at home. Mini cheddar sticks make an easy portable snack too.

Crazzzycat · 13/02/2022 10:37

For those of you who are using, or have used nutracheck, would you recommend it? And do you use just the app, or the website too?

spicedsoup · 13/02/2022 11:37

@Crazzzycat app only, think it’s about £23 for a year. I recommend if you want to be able to track or check stuff. The food list is expansive, it’s rare I don’t find something, full of U.K. brands inc restaurants, coffee shops etc. No random entries made by other people. It’s genuinely convenient, I constantly had to double check entries on MFP, Carb Manager etc and lots of American entries on those. Made it harder work!

Also it’s easy to personalise, I track carb and protein as my main two but you can easily toggle to other macros. I set my own macro goals without issue, but it does have plenty of presets.

The only thing missing for me is to rename the sections (I prefer times over breakfast, lunch etc) but that’s quite minor!

Crazzzycat · 13/02/2022 12:48

Thanks @spicedsoup. I noticed they do a free trial, so I’ve signed up for that. I like that the app allows you to log the dry weight of foods, something my current app (FitBit) is not so good at. I also like that I can link it to my FitBit.

I’m less impressed that it categorised my 30 minute walk, up an ultra steep slope as a “very slow stroll”. My ego is bruised 😂

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 13/02/2022 13:38

App only for me on nutracheck. So much better than MFP I think. Like @spicedsoup says, no random incorrect entries from other users and a good range of UK products. DH and I are both using it and it's easy to share recipes. Would have liked a family payment rate rather than pay for two, but we are both finding it really useful for tracking and monitoring our progress.

Foreverlexicon · 13/02/2022 14:21

Sorry to hear things are still rough @SunshineCake1 but it sounds like you had a nice birthday none the less. Feel free to pm me too if you want a chat; I’ve been in similar mind frames as your DD and also frequently see this sort of thing at work so may be able to offer some different perspectives xx

I’ve had a reasonable few days. Weigh day tomorrow; I haven’t found myself counting the days down to it this time which hopefully means this is becoming habit! I’ve had a reasonable week; felt very low mon/Tues so did very little moving and had a few days where I’ve eaten a bit but stayed within my calories bar one day where I probably went a bit over unless half a bottle of Prosecco has no calories?! I can hope Grin

We’re about to go have a look round Nuffield gym. Had to give up my beloved David Lloyd when we moved and have joined a local leisure centre but I’ve become a snob. But I just got a new life insurance with 40% off Nuffield which actually makes it cheaper!

buzzofthebumblebee · 13/02/2022 14:31

Prosecco is mainly air bubbles Forever, surely? wishful thinking on my part too as I indulged last night out at dinner. Delicious it was too and I even had pud that was offered to me. Would have been rude not to ; ) Managed 30km bike ride yesterday. Found it tougher than a 10k run - but I guess its cos I'm not used to cycling.

Roast chicken dinner this eve, and I'm looking forward to it. I've no idea what nutracheck is, but I can guess. I used to input into MFP religiously but haven't this time round of dieting, and find it liberating not to have to. Made me a bit obsessed tbh.

Hope everyone has a good balance of weekend rest and activity. Sorry to hear about your bad knees Swampy - how frustrating given how much you enjoy your running.

spicedsoup · 13/02/2022 14:37

@Crazzzycat haha! Oh well, you’ll feel especially chuffed when it tells you it’s recognised some hardcore exertion Grin

Day 3 of taking it very easy - another day where my brain thought I could do more than my body is prepared for! I’m weirdly glad the weather is miserable, it feels apt for being wrapped up in bed. Also a small NSV but feeling proud for not just giving in to tiredness and heading for Deliveroo (even if it’s only been 3 days of willpower so far!).

Enjoy your Nuffield tour @Foreverlexicon life insurance discount sounds great.

SunshineCake1 · 13/02/2022 14:53

I'm home alone so will PM you now, thank you @Foreverlexicon.
