A Warm Welcome to New and existing Members alike! Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fasting and eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Congrats on all the lossesStar and Thanksto those who need it.
I'm down 1 lb this week Smile - was hoping for more as it's week 1 but I'll take it. So so tired today due to DC up at 5 but so far I'm resisting the cake. Listening to Paul mc kenna's app which I'm quite liking.
Waves to all Smile

fallfallfall · 09/02/2022 17:52

my scale and numbers are bouncing around; weight up, water up, muscle mass up.
feeling okay and not cheating with the nuts, who btw ARE calling my name and speaking out to me through the glass jar.
positive thoughts everyone, some days are easier than others...make that some hours are easier than others.

Foreverlexicon · 09/02/2022 18:17

Hello all, can I skulk back?

I was part of the group in 2020 and still recognise some usernames!
Last time I was here my gf was in Cornwall caring for her terminally ill mum during the first lockdown and life was generally rubbish.

Much improved now; we own a house and a dog together Shock but I also gained back all the weight I lost. We started dieting (old fashioned calorie counting and exercise) on the 11th following gf’s birthday as we’re going to Thailand for my 30th. My horse is now pregnant so no riding for me at the minute so we are doing coach to 5k since I’ve not run since we got the dog and she’s 18 months now.

I’ve managed to lose just under 9 pounds and would LOVE to lose another 10 before our holiday but it might be a stretch.
Also decided I need to get out of the police and was offered a job today so feeling fairly chuffed!

fallfallfall · 09/02/2022 18:23

that sounds like a wonderful 2021!! and bring on 2022 with more good stuff :)
welcome back @Foreverlexicon

SunshineCake1 · 09/02/2022 19:34

Welcome back @Foreverlexicon! Hopefully you'll start the run of others coming back.

Congrats on becoming a HorseGrandmaGrin and great news you have a dog. What did you get and what is their name? Well done on your job too!

ImALittlePea · 09/02/2022 21:31

Omg @SunshineCake1 that's an insane amount!

I don't weigh until Friday but feel relatively accomplished today. 1yo had her jabs yesterday so I was up all night with her 😥 but managed to stick to plan today barring one small bag of crisps. And I've just been for a long brisk walk which apparently burned >300 calories. Legs feel on fire now!

No V.day plans here, DH does have the day off but it's half term so we'll probably be at the soft play! Hah! I'm starting to worry about all my hard work going to pot next week as we'll be out and about and having to grab what I can for lunch etc. I'm hoping I can still steer clear of midweek wines as well, but I know I'll have less willpower then because "it's the holidays" (even though it involves zero actual break for me 😵‍💫)

8stone13 · 09/02/2022 21:47

@fallfallfall I'm the same with nuts. I can hear cashews, hazelnuts, walnuts & almonds whispering temptation from inside a drawer right now 😀

@ImALittlePea I remember those one year old sleepless moments Thanks

Hello @Foreverlexicon 👋🏻

I made a steamed chocolate sponge pudding tonight & it was a triumph. Oh dear 🤪😀

fallfallfall · 10/02/2022 04:23

downfall from 2-3 pm....not in control, too much temptation at a really challenging time (before supper) BUT good sweaty exercise so my hydration must be better as well as my endurance.
it's a balancing act and i will get into the swing of it.

buzzofthebumblebee · 10/02/2022 07:54

just here to say hello & to make me mindful today. And to get the balance right - or as good as I am able to. Lots of tea to be drunk.

(context: big row with DS17. I hate raising my voice but comes a point I can't deal with the rudeness. Nor should I. DH deals with it by ignoring and taking dog out for walk. Also meeting v difficult client today. Hate days like these).

8stone13 · 10/02/2022 08:26

My empathy @buzzofthebumblebee there comes a point where the excuse of teenage pressure/school/whatever doesn't cut it. I have rather firmly told both my two that I won't tolerate attitude or repeated rudeness in my own home from anyone & that includes my own children Thanks

Day 40 - Thurs 10th Feb - 9s 2 & 3/4lb
BMI 21.3
BF 23.7

I don't really deserve that result given what I ate yesterday, which included a cream slice, chocolate & then homemade chocolate sponge pudding 😬 I was genuinely hungry all day yesterday though, I wonder if it's the temperature drop 🤔

Foreverlexicon · 10/02/2022 08:45

We got a Samoyed called Shenzi and she is the love of my life. Took a while to convince the gf as she’s a cat person not a dog person then another age to agree on the breed as her family always had labradors and I’ve always had collies. Then a colleague brought a Samoyed puppy into work (first time I came across the breed) and the deal was sealed. She’s wonderful and gf worships her Smile

We had some wine last night to celebrate the job and I feel a bit groggy this morning. But I’m on reduced hours and wfh as was off a couple of months with MH (part of my push to leave the job). But didn’t go above my calories too much so I’m fairly happy

SunshineCake1 · 10/02/2022 09:15

Sorry your son has caused you pain @buzzofthebumblebee. I got the badge for being a bad mum as would swear when I had really had had enough. I hoped they would learn they had pushed mum too far. Thankfully we are over that now they are older 16-20.

I'm back in bed. On ibuprofen as the pain is worse, should not have gone on the treadmill in the morning then walk the dog in the afternoon. Supposed to be birthday cake shopping tomorrow so resting today so I can go out. Need to make sure I don't just eat chocolate and crisps all day. Five hours before I can eat Sad.

Your dog sounds adorable @Foreverlexicon. Not a breed I have ever heard of. I have a golden retriever and she is my best friend and I love her so much. She's five.

Crazzzycat · 10/02/2022 10:57

Morning all! I experimented with not having any snacks yesterday and was “rewarded” with a 0.2 kg gain 😂 I’m going to try and keep the snacks away from my face again today though and see what happens...I figure I have nothing to lose. If I do get unbearably hungry, I’ll just eat my normal calories.

Sorry to hear your DS is causing you stress @buzzofthebumblebee. No wise words from me, but you have my sympathy. Mine is going through a phase of telling me I should “try harder”. It’s unclear to me exactly to what end, but I’m sure it makes sense to him 🤷🏻‍♀️

Thearex · 10/02/2022 11:30

Morning all - MIA yesterday, work is bonkers. Checking in to stay focused.

Diet a bit all over the place, stupidly went till 6.30pm on Murray mints, do not recommend, DP is lucky to be alive. I failed to plan, and thought I could grab something on the go...nope!

Love Samoyed's @Foreverlexicon they always look like they are smiling & so cuddly. Congratulations on the job offer too.

@buzzofthebumblebee a nice cup of tea has fab healing properties. No experience of teens, but can empathise how hard it must be.

It's always the same @Crazzzycat.. all good intentions, hope today goes well and you get a good result.

Well done @8stone13 we all need to enjoy a treat too.

Nuts are very nutritionally dense it must be why they are so tempting @fallfallfall, especially covered in chocolate!

Well done everyone on the losses, sending you all positive thoughts!

LosetoHike · 10/02/2022 12:25

Well done on all the losses this week everyone.

I’ve been pretty mixed regarding my food plan and exercise this week. I was very happy that I stayed on plan for the first couple of days as work has been manic and I had my first assignment due for my part time masters. It all fell apart on Tuesday when I had to stop for petrol on the way home from work when I bought a box of Pringles and a packet of jellies and proceeded to binge eat them on my commute home 😩 more than my allocated calories for the entire day in less than an hour 🙈 I was so annoyed with myself I nearly gave up (again!) yesterday but somehow managed to get back on track. I really need to try and unlink food and comfort after a bad day because it’s such a bad crutch.

Didn’t weigh in yesterday because of my Tuesday evening binge but weight this morning is down 1.6kg from last Wednesday.

Sw:88.1kg
CW:83.2kg

Crazzzycat · 10/02/2022 15:17

On the subject of nuts, this article is an interesting read. They’re nowhere near as calorific as the packaging suggests, as your body can’t access a lot of the energy from whole nuts. Plus there’s some evidence to suggest that eating nuts suppresses appetite, prevents spikes in blood sugar and increases metabolism 🤓

www.foodnavigator-usa.com/Article/2013/03/01/Why-can-we-eat-lots-of-nuts-without-getting-fat

“Numerous scientific studies have shown that eating nuts will not make you gain weight, despite their high fat content. In fact, people who eat two or more portions of nuts a week are much less likely to gain weight, compared with people who rarely eat them”

fallfallfall · 10/02/2022 16:42

@Crazzzycat, one portion is about 20 individual nuts. my love of salt and the smooth texture means i eat about 200 at a time.
the scale is still jumping about but nice hike planned for 10am.
i'll report back if i have a successful day.
@buzzofthebumblebee, i was able to be brutal to my oldest. middle was a complicated girl and youngest had me wrapped around his finger. i can still remember when he lovingly in the sweetest way told me to fuck off more of a i can't believe you told me to do xyz surprised oh fuck off than a nasty i hate you FO.
they go grow up, strength coming your way.

MyAnacondaMight · 10/02/2022 18:02

Well done everyone on all your losses. Star

I’m now at 10st 6, so 16 down and 6 to go. Very slow progress, but today I completed Couch to 5k, so feeling pleased with my exercise achievements even if not the weight loss.

Can anyone recommend a 5-10K programme to try next? I’d like something a bit more dynamic than the standard “run 5 minutes longer each week”.

buzzofthebumblebee · 10/02/2022 20:43

Ahh, thank you all for support. Really does mean a lot.

I'm a big doggie fan. Just had to look up a samoyed foreverlexicon - I know the breed but not the name. Gorgeous pooch. Lucky you.

You made me laugh crazzy with your reward !! Such a shame. The scales have no rhyme or reason sometimes. Hope you see your loss soon. Maybe we should all try 8stone13's menu !! sounds delicious.

Ahh Sunshine, still in the wars. Hope you make it birthday cake shopping tomorrow. For you?!! Do you get to taste as you go?

Huge congrats on completing the C to 5k MyAnaconda - that's fantastic !!

Big wave to everyone. And stay off the nuts Fall

spicedsoup · 10/02/2022 20:47

Hi all, joining as a newbie to the thread!

I’m not 100% sure how much I have to lose as I need to weigh myself again but it’s a fair amount, about 40lb (very approximately). Will try to remember to weigh in the morning.

I’m 4 months postpartum with DC4 and all is fine, but it’s taken me a lot longer to get active again this time around (muscle pains and whatnot). Hormones are also much stronger (does that make sense?!) when ovulating and just before my period, so cravings have been really frustrating.

Appreciate I’ve just had a baby and all that, but I really need to make some progress, step by step! Here for some added accountability and motivation Smile I’m eating low carb, although that is normal for me regardless of weight loss, so I’m trying a sort intermittent fasting/not-quite-OMAD approach! Also need to move more and build strength (again).

SunshineCake1 · 10/02/2022 22:00

Yep, for me @buzzofthebumblebee. 50 at the weekend!

Welcome @spicedsoup. Congratulations on your baby.

fallfallfall · 11/02/2022 04:22

@SunshineCake1 are you turning 50? or am i having difficulty following the thread?
some challenges and some successes over here...
now if only someone could really really help me with bedding and a throw pillow :(

SunshineCake1 · 11/02/2022 07:32

I am @fallfallfall.

What is wrong with your bedding and pillow?

I can't sleep for worrying about DD. Been awake ages.

ImALittlePea · 11/02/2022 07:36

Morning! Weigh in day for me, somehow managed a loss of 1lb 4oz! 🥳 So I'm nearly 10lb down this year so far, about a stone off where I want to be and officially the lightest I've been since having my baby in 2020.

I think I've found a reasonable balance of not really restricting myself at weekends but making much more sensible decisions in the week. Now I've just got to navigate the half term and disruption to normal weekday routines without any damage, and not get complacent about watching what I'm eating. And STILL need to build in much more movement.

Have a wonderful day everyone.

TheRealHousewife · 11/02/2022 07:51

Good Morning All

Great loss @LosetoHike 👍
