@veevee04

My mental health is shot to bits 4 months on not felt this low in years and years very tearful today. My restriction hasn't got any less feel sick after a few bites hunger is absolutely gone eating/drinking feels like a chore I have meal replacement shakes I feel like I've lost a friend that is food ! I've lost weight but feel tired and run down hopefully it gets better .
Make sure you are eating plenty of protein and getting the vitamins you need.

If food was your friend you need to find another one to fill the gap...baths, books, sex, running, swimming, card making anything

Hi everyone,
I've been lurking, reading these threads for the last couple of days. Thank you for all details and honesty.
I have just signed my contract for gastric sleeve surgery in March.
I'm terrified and excited in equal measure.

Same here. I actually feel happier now I have made the decision
SavBbunny · 01/02/2022 08:28

@Brindille

I am interested to know how you are?
Is everything OK?

sleeveho · 01/02/2022 12:47

@MagentaRocks
My date is March 17th, surgeon told me best prep for the op would be to lose weight. Hoping to get half a stone off before the LRD. However I'm also investigating protein shakes and powders as I'm a fussy eater and concerned with a high protein diet after the surgery.

I'm a fussy eater too. I got my pack through today so going to do a meal plan for before and after to take to my consultation in a couple of weeks. At least then I can make sure I have everything I need.

SavBbunny · 01/02/2022 17:30

Can i recommend the nutracheck?
I have 7/8 stone to lose and have lost 9.5lbs in 24 days.
It works out your calories and fruit, veg etc. I was tikdy to follow a low fat, sugar, salt and no alcohol diet. - 1500
Calories a day

Brindille · 02/02/2022 07:27

Hi @SavBbunny, I'm ok thanks. My incisions have pretty much all sealed up now. I'm managing to get more fluid in each day, and feeling better and stronger. Eating is still a bit hit and miss but even that is getting easier. I weigh myself on Fridays and last Friday (1 week post op) I had lost 9kg since starting the LRD. (I think that is around a stone and a half?)

SavBbunny · 02/02/2022 07:41

@Brindille

Wow, well done you.
I have some dates for the consultantion but nothing re surgery.
My GP is worried re my slight sleep apnea, has anyone else had this come up as a barrier to surgery?

Birdwoman007 · 02/02/2022 08:49

Hello. I thought I'd join as it looks like I am having surgery in early March. I am finding it hard to sleep because I am so excited.

I am having an ESG in London, which is quite a drive. I almost booked with a local surgeon/hospital but wasn't feeling confident in them so I have decided that the journey is worth it. It was also cheaper to go with a surgeon who has lots of experience of this procedure than one who is just starting, which I found odd.

I am going with Mr Kelly through Healthier Weight as I feel in good hands. My daughter has been through surgery and I need someone who gives me the same confidence as her surgeon.

I don't feel at the moment that I want to tell friends and family what I am doing. Partly it's because I don't want to worry them and partly it's because I don't want them to judge me for needing to resort to this. However, I do feel confident that I have tried everything else and I am just tired of my weight being an issue.

Thanks for listening Smile

Birdy

Birdwoman007 · 02/02/2022 08:56

@veevee04 I am so sorry that you are feeling awful. In my area, you can self refer to mental health services. Could you see if that is available in your NHS trust? I don't think you should have to cope alone with this.

sleeveho · 02/02/2022 21:12

@Birdwoman007
I am the also planning on not really telling anyone. My husband knows, my teenage kids do not, I don't know how to tell them and honestly I'm embarrassed.
Since they are at home they will notice so I need get my head round what I am doing in the next couple of weeks.

Birdwoman007 · 02/02/2022 21:37

@sleeveho Tricky isn't it! No DH,but I know that my daughter will worry a lot if she knows I am having an op no matter how much I reassure her. I think am going to tell a white lie that I need to do a VLCD on doctor's orders.

Other than that - if this sorts me out - I'll share with overweight friends if they ask me what my 'miracle diet' is.

MrMrsJones · 03/02/2022 15:06

Three days and I fly out for my op

Good luck.
MrMrsJones · 03/02/2022 17:09

Thank you

sleeveho · 03/02/2022 20:24

@MrMrsJones Good luck, let us know how you get on.

Birdwoman007 · 03/02/2022 20:34

Good luck!

Disaster for me today as I was told that I have to go for a pre-op three days before the ESG and I simply cannot make the logistics work. I am going to have to give up on it for now :-(

Bubblegums09 · 05/02/2022 14:30

Hi, I'm having a sleeve done March 17th too! Hoping to lose a few pounds beforehand. Mixture of excited, nervous and annoyed that I let myself wait so long to do this but feels good to be on track!
I'm a carer and wondering how long roughly would I need off work? There are some lighter duties I can do so no heavy lifting but work want dates now as to how long I'm taking off 🤷‍♀️

MrMrsJones · 05/02/2022 16:17

No @MagentaRocks I'm on my own
DH wanted to come, but with dogs and extra flight costs, I opted to go by myself

I have a week's stay in a hospital then hotel. I think I will be careful for a week after as well.

I guess it depends if its a sit down or active job
