1 stone to lose

Globaluser · 17/11/2021 14:44

Little bit about me:

4 children under 4 (yeah I know)
Last pregnancy was in April this year.
I am 10 stone 2 lbs
Monday I downloaded fitness pal, so I’m counting calories.
I wear an Apple Watch so track my cycling and walking on that.
I like to burn 520 calories a day. That’s my daily goal.

Anyone want to join me on this journey? And swap recipes, of course 😋

Mmm dairy milk caramel.
Well, I’ve jus been walking on the spot whilst watching a movie. I did 10 mins and burned 60 calories. More than I burn when walking.

Today - weight 9 st 13lbs so same as yesterday

Breakfast - black coffee only

Exercise - 30 min cycle 133 calories burned
Lunch - smoked salmon salad with feta cheese

Snack - half sandwich from yesterday

Dinner - not sure yet…

Does anyone know if Apple Watch records only active calories in the fitness app or is it all?

Hi everyone,

Had a chill day today, I've eaten 1400 calories and won't eat til tomorrow now. Not weighed myself yet so will do that at some point.

How is everyone getting on? Smile

Giraffefantastico · 22/11/2021 16:04

Really hope I'm not too late to join you all!

I am currently bigger than I have ever been. Piled on the pounds during lockdown and have found it impossible to shift! Am very guilty of sneaking too many snacks while working from home.

I joined a gym last week. Going to try and fit some exercise in most days but diet is my major problem. Haven't braved the scales for many months - but I was 13.5 stone in the summer and expect the news to be worse. Will update later when I've had the nerve!

MaybeWeShouldGoToEastbourne · 22/11/2021 16:47

Hi Ladies! Love this thread, well done for the losses so far Smile

I’ve put on approx 2 stone over covid 😂 came back from a holiday a week ago, hadn’t weighed myself in ages but knew I’d put on a bit, I was expecting to be about 10 st. 8 - imagine my shock when the scales said 11st 3! At 5 foot 6 that’s right at the top of healthy for my height but I’m much happier at approx 9st. 3 Smile all the extra weight goes to my face and stomach which is not my favourite look 😂 none of my clothes fit other than the stretchy ones so I started counting cals again last week and I haven’t weighed myself yet - a bit scared to do so if I’m honest!

Went for a long walk today into town and back instead of driving like I usually would (7 mile round trip) and I’m back to logging everything in MFP.

Food today:
B: 100g natural yoghurt
30g bran flakes
15g sultanas

L: weight watchers ready meal with extra veg

And dinner will be vegan meatballs, roasted Mediterranean veg in passata and cauliflower rice.

Does anyone else find they have a small voice in their brain that sometimes says “eat what you want, your weight is not important; accept yourself as you are, belly and all” and another voice that says “lose weight! You’ll feel better!” - this mental battle is harder for me than finding willpower - would be interested to know if anyone has this problem?

MaybeWeShouldGoToEastbourne · 22/11/2021 16:59

Oh also, if any of you need ideas for a sweet snack try the “Skinny Crunch” bars - lots of different flavours (personal favourite is the chocolate orange)

They really satisfy my sweet tooth but without being so nice that I’ll sit and eat the whole box in one sitting iyswim

Globaluser · 22/11/2021 19:27

@LUCCCY Hi, I’m still on track, although I put on 1/2 lb this morning. Must’ve been the malteasers I DIDN'T EAT 🙄 1400 is good, you still lose with eating that many I think.
I think fitness pal puts you up to 1750 when you want to maintain weight.

Welcome @Giraffefantastico good luck with your weigh in later. Please come back and update us.

Also welcome to @MaybeWeShouldGoToEastbourne you got to love those voices. Mine tells me I don’t need to lose weight just as I’m about to eat a chocolate cake with chocolate custard and chocolate shake to wash it all down with 😂

Morning everyone

I started off with some good news on the scales. Starting weight is 13st2 so somehow I weigh 5lbs less than the last time I weighed myself in the summer.

I am 5’11 and my ideal weight is 11st 7 that’s around where I was and maintaining comfortably pre covid.

Planning to head out for a swim today.

Meals today will look a bit like this:
Porridge with banana and raisins
Veggie soup
Salmon and veggies

And will definitely be heading out to find some skinny crunch bars - thanks @MaybeWeShouldGoToEastbourne. Snacks are definitely my downfall!

Badhairday101 · 23/11/2021 10:10

Thanks for all of the motivation! Day one yesterday and it went well.

I had 1600 calories, 5ft 9inch so think that should be ok.
12800 steps.
40 minute hiit class at the gym.

Aiming for 15000 steps and 1600 calories today.

Globaluser · 23/11/2021 10:55

Morning everyone, I have burned 235 calories so far today and just goal is 550 so doing well so far. Weight is half pound up and at a standstill. So I’m expecting a major drop by end of this week. And I mean a MAJOR drop!!
So stay tuned for the hissy fit I have when I don’t lose the few expected pounds 😄

That’s very good @Badhairday101 sounds like a good plan.

LUCCCY · 23/11/2021 14:18

@MaybeWeShouldGoToEastbourne we're the same height! I was 11st 5 last time I checked. Good luck to you. Smile
@Globaluser Don't feel bad about the weight gain! It's a journey that's for sure. We'll be here to support you. 💪

I had a fish sandwich for lunch. I get morrisons calorie counted bread which is only 57 cal per slice.

MaybeWeShouldGoToEastbourne · 24/11/2021 06:21

It’s weight day! I’ve lost 3lbs this week 🙂 it’s the first week though so loss will probably slow a bit from here. Hi @LUCCCY!

Globaluser · 24/11/2021 08:15

@MaybeWeShouldGoToEastbourne yay! Way to go!
I weighed myself and I’m still the same. Stuck at 10 stones.

You ladies are so good! I still haven't got the scales out 😬 need to get into better habits, just not on a roll with it since the baby! Excuses excuses

Globaluser · 24/11/2021 12:19

Go on when you’re ready @MarvEll weigh yourself late at night and fully clothed
Then you’ll get like a really high number anyway and it won’t shock you as much.

OP posts:
MaybeWeShouldGoToEastbourne · 24/11/2021 19:28

@Globaluser I know you feel like your weight has stuck since last week so here is a positive thought I had…

Some of the 5lbs you lost last week was water weight - so it is likely that you’ve lost a little bit more fat this week but also gained back some water, which is why you’ve stuck at 10 st. You might have lost 2lbs of fat but be holding 2lbs of water hence the scales not moving. Don’t feel disheartened 😁

MaybeWeShouldGoToEastbourne · 24/11/2021 19:55

Also it is thought that on average, using 3500 cals more than you eat (from exercise + just existing, known as TDEE*) = a loss of 1lb (so to lose 1lb a week you’d have to cut 500 cals a day)

That means to lose 2lb per week you’d have to cut and/or burn 1000 cals a day (assuming no exercise and using the Height/weight in example below)

As an example -

A woman of 5”4’ and 10 st. Uses approx 1600-1700 cals per day (no exercise involved for this example)

THEREFORE to lose 2lb in a week this woman would have to only eat 6-700 cals per day in total. TDEE of 1600-1700.) obviously it would be terribly unhealthy to live off so few calories!!!

I hope this makes sense - for me it puts into context how much willpower it takes to lose even one pound a week and what an achievement that is! Anything more is not sustainable!

The bottom line for me is that I’d have to live off about 700 cals every day to lose 2lb a week. Not a good idea!! If I can get the weight off at 1lb a week I’ll be satisfied Smile

*TDEE- total daily energy expenditure

If you google “TDEE calculator” you can put your own measurements in and get a relatively accurate daily calorie requirement for yourself to maintain/lose/gain weight.
We are taught that women use 2000 cals a day - this is often a significant over estimate unless there is significant exercise involved.

MaybeWeShouldGoToEastbourne · 24/11/2021 19:59

Oops didn’t realise that second comment would be so long!

I didn’t mean to waffle 😂 just wanted to explain why losing what can seem like a small amount (1lb) is actually a massive achievement!

Badhairday101 · 24/11/2021 20:51

It was really useful information, 1lb seems like nothing but when put like that it is a big deal. I always think 7lb is the equivalent of a new born baby and when I think of it like that it makes me realise it’s a significant amount of weight otherwise I think half a stone doesn’t sound that much.

I’ve managed around 12000 steps for the last 3 days and stuck to 1600 calories. I’ll weigh tomorrow although not expecting to lose any in 3 days.

MaybeWeShouldGoToEastbourne · 24/11/2021 20:57

Love that @Badhairday101 - I’m going to start telling people I’ve lost the equivalent of a whole person when I hit half a stone loss 😂

Badhairday101 · 24/11/2021 21:02

@MaybeWeShouldGoToEastbourne do it! 😂🤣

MarvEll · 24/11/2021 21:48

@Globaluser fully clothed is great, so when I do it next time naked, before I've eaten I'll feel like I'm on the way 😂
I think when you're short it's so hard to lose those lbs, these short bodies don't need as much. Very tough!
I went for a super long two hour walk to keep the baby asleep yesterday, but then today just felt knackered and ate more than I should 😬
What is everyones step count goal? My Fitbit is set to 8,000 but pre baby I'd easily do 15,000. Thinking 10,000 would be a sensible goal for now?

Globaluser · 25/11/2021 09:43

Thank you for explaining it so well @MaybeWeShouldGoToEastbourne I have weighed myself today but I did put my size 10 jeans on and they fit perfectly. None of that discomfort you feel when your jeans is one size too small for you 😂

@MarvEll that sounds like a good plan. You can work your way back up to 15,000 steps.

Mine is on 10,000 steps currently.

I’ve not weighed myself yet today. Will update later if I do.

OP posts:
LUCCCY · 25/11/2021 14:52

Hi everyone,

I weighed myself and have am 11st 3lbs so lost 2lbs in like 2 or 3 weeks so not bad really.
@MarvEll I think 10k steps is a great goal, I never do that much haha.

Badhairday101 · 25/11/2021 15:18

I aim for 15000 steps but am usually between 11000 and 13000. I try and get a few more in at the weekend to bump my average up.
I weighed this morning and have lost 2.5lbs so far this week, I’m happy with that as hardly restricted myself, just upped the steps and exercise and been more conscious of my calories.
