Hello & Welcome

October has flown by and now November is upon us! The outside temperature is actually warmer than this time last month, so feels quite unseasonal. Still have bumble bees and lady birds in the garden 😮. I for one do look forward to cosy nights by the fire and prepping for the coming festive season.

With just 59 days until Christmas there's still time to svelte up for the Christmas holidays. A part of my Christmas prep includes dropping a few extra lbs ‘to make room’ for a little foody extravagance… and a Baileys or two 😬

Carrying on from October’s thread, this is a space for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The members of these threads are inspirational, supportive and happy to share their progress (the ups and the downs).

We all know that if we eat right, get outside & move more your mental health will reap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a healthy cycle.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. Personally, I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I try to not overload on carbs etc, include a protein source with most meals and aim to glug enough water. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with light weighs.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding. We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. I’ve weighed daily at times and weekly at other times. Do what works for you. The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

Jump right in! If you’re not too shy, post a bit about yourself 😊. How do you plan to do it? What do you want to achieve? What excites you about your future self? Together, we can create a whole new you!

You’ll be glad you got on board this time next month 😊

It is gutting isn't it? Petroleum jelly round the top of the pots is another trick of mine.
Roll on spring Smile

Youdoyoutoday · 23/11/2021 14:21

Thanks @crazzzycat that article is really interesting and makes a really valid point so hopefully I will see some results soon

SunshineCake1 · 23/11/2021 16:52

Good tip @132orbust.

I walked doggy on my own while dh did the school run and I felt very unwell while I was out. Before we left I happened to be reading an article about women having heart attacks and I have had all the symptoms. I can't believe that's what is happening but I'm going to do nothing else today and won't run tomorrow unless I feel 100%. I was wide awake at 2am so that hasn't helped.

TheRealHousewife · 23/11/2021 18:24

Good Evening All

Has anyone else noticed that the window on the right of the MN page which normally shows trending threads has disappeared. It’s been missing all afternoon for me. I hope it’s a glitch and not a permanent change.

@murmuration I’m hoping to find an empathic employer next year. I’d like to get back into some kind of work, albeit on a part time basis.

Thank you for the link @Crazzzycat 👍 Very interesting 🧐

Sorry to read that @SunshineCake1 hope you feel better soon.

Enjoy your evening Everyone x

There's a thread about the missing trending box @TheRealHousewife. They know what's wrong so I don't know why it isn't fixed yet. It's been a while for some. Dh is encouraging me not to run tomorrow. Just feel yuk again.

TheRealHousewife · 23/11/2021 19:56

I think the reason the trending box is missing is revenue based. There are massive adverts where it used to be! I bet it doesn’t reappear any time soon.

SunshineCake1 · 23/11/2021 22:12

I just have a blank column >>>

No trending box. No adverts. Confused.

buzzofthebumblebee · 23/11/2021 22:21

Ooh - so much banter and positive stories of parsnips, and losses (well done crazzy ).

My dodgy knee, as I thought, is thankfully superficial. Rest, plus exercises to target specific muscle groups in my RH glute - yes really - to stop knee taking so much strain. So interesting having the physiology explained.

Also interesting, I just happened to mention weight loss. She said that could have been a cause as well, as too quick a loss causes muscle wastage, despite exercising, if calorie intake isn't high enough. Which apparently mine isn't. I'll see what WOW brings tomorrow, then maybe reassess my food & calorie intake.

Sleep well everyone.

SunshineCake1 · 24/11/2021 08:04

Glad the problem with your knee isn't too serious @buzzofthebumblebee and you know what it is.

I'm still in bed. Don't feel great but feel like crying at the thought of not running as need the mental support of it. Trying not to focus on my eating and asking window being rubbish yesterday. I need to run and stay in bed for a bit but dh keeps taking the dog without me and while I did walk with her twice yesterday, once with him, I feel like I have missed so many. Don't know what to do but I know all this upset is nothing to do with anything I have said but that I can't do anything about.

buzzofthebumblebee · 24/11/2021 08:05

Morning all. 11 st 12, so overall of 4lbs loss this month so far. Smile

I don't think that is an excessive loss? (total 20 lbs loss since 1st Sept), but I have taken-on board what she said so will add breakfast to my day, but continue other meals as I was ; ) I'm in the zone mentally and don't want to break that really iykwim

buzzofthebumblebee · 24/11/2021 08:10

Ahh, cross post sun. Sorry you are feeling so sad & lonely too by the sounds of things. Not sure what is going on, but don't forget men are from mars ... Is there anything else you could plan today not involving running or walking? set yourself goal of getting to shops for some really obscure baking ingredient ? or take yourself off for a coffee?? Flowers

SunshineCake1 · 24/11/2021 08:24

I am going to get up and try a run as dh has said if I need to go back to bed for the rest of the day then I can. He's taking the dog for a walk now and DS is in school all day so we have longer without the school run and don't have anywhere else we need to be. I need to go otherwise I'll just get more fed up. I miss me Sad.

TheRealHousewife · 24/11/2021 08:46

Good Morning All

WOW - 2.5lbs gain. Ba humbug.

That’s great news about the knee injury @buzzofthebumblebee and your progress this month ⭐️🥇👍 That’s interesting about actively losing weight and muscle wastage. I’m sure my low cals affects hair shedding too. But if I eat more I gain 🤷‍♀️

@SunshineCake1 ❤️

Menu
Meal 1 - Porridge 😬
Meal 2 - Salmon tray bake.

Morning all.

It looks like 1.5lb loss this week, so the right direction. 0.5lbs and I will be in a new stone which feels kind of good. However I've been losing the same 5lbs for months so I don't want to count my chickens or lose my focus. Considering the dip of last week though I am pleased with my mental turnaround and the results.

Today is a challenge as I'm a little grumpy. I'm having to force myself into the office. However once I'm there the snack options are limited. Except for chocolate digestives.

I might ask if we can put them on top of the fridge...at least out of sight, as I am trying to stick to healthy eating and it's like an avalanche if I start.

After work I am going for dinner which is another challenge. Originally pizza was suggested but that would probably blow the carb budget so I found a place that does dishes like chicken. It's either deep fried or with breadcrumbs or in cream sauce so it's still not ideal. And no calories on the menu. I'll have chicken and veg though and go easy on sauce and potatoes, plus sparkling water.

I've got a few bits of housework to do when I get home and I just need a good night sleep tonight- no phone procrastination.

Then tomorrow is another swim. I really enjoyed Mondays swim as I was a lot faster.

PPs comment about being in the zone mentally is so true. Every day just stay in the zone, even if its the slow lane, adjust if needed but keep on the track and eventually I'll get there hopefully!

Have good days everyone.

DownUdderer · 24/11/2021 10:11

I'm a pound down. I've got 6lb to go till I get to target.

I've got to target weight twice in the last couple of years then put weight back on again during two lockdowns.

SunshineCake1 · 24/11/2021 10:14

Also missing @Puffalicious and @HalfGone...

I weigh the same as ten days ago but I'll take it as a win. Did my run and happy with my time.

murmuration · 24/11/2021 11:26

WOW:
SW 14 stone 4
CW 13 stone 10

so down 1lb from last week. Not as fast as my first two weeks, but that's to be expected (first two were likely that "water weight") and also given my weekend, I'm quite happy with it!

Crazzzycat · 24/11/2021 11:45

Well done on all those losses everyone.

Sorry to hear you’re feeling low @SunshineCake1 and about your gain @TheRealHousewife. Weightloss is so weird and unpredictable.

The scales tell me I’ve lost 4lbs this week Hmm I don’t believe that for one minute. I think they’ll be up again tomorrow, but it was nice to see the number start with 76 today, after only breaking through the 78 kg barrier on Monday!

MyAnacondaMight · 24/11/2021 15:04

Well done to all the Wednesday weigh ins!

Mexican restaurant for dinner tonight here - again, hard to navigate. I like the idea about staying in the zone and moving into the slow lane where needed. Definitely a slow lane week for me, but I’m not giving up.

132orbust · 24/11/2021 16:00

Quick check-in as promised
134.2 - so 2.2lbs to go.

jellyrolly · 24/11/2021 16:25

Hi all! Thank you for the shout out @TheRealHousewife. I have been reading comments but not commented. I had a fairly negative week healthwise which didn't seem like a very motivating thing to share. I have called my GP and asked for a referral to the menopause clinic (he said no, he was a twat). If I have some up to date routine checks then I can ask again and will be referred so hopefully that will help.

SunshineCake1 · 24/11/2021 16:45

Well done @murmuration. Anything is great. We have several people in the 🐢🐢🐢club and apart from when I spent weeks in bed and ate all the chocolate I have found a slow loss equals a sustained keeping off. Also I think if there is a huge change then that helps with a bigger loss. Once one gets to nearer a more normal weight then I think the losing becomes slower and harder. Hate saying normal but can't think of another word.

Excellent @Crazzzycat! Don't weigh tomorrow then you won't see a gain if there is one. I used to weigh daily and if wasn't great for me. Took a long time to stop doing it though. Then I went to weekly and I was shocked today to realise I hadn't weighed myself for ten days. No loss but no gain either so claiming a win. Thanks for your kind wishes too.

Not giving up is a win in my book too @MyAnacondaMight. Enjoy your meal, go as crazy as you can live with, drink plenty of water and have a stricter rest of the week. Would be my advice if you had asked for it!BlushGrin.

Well done @132orbust. Superstar.

Sorry you've been feeling rubbish @jellyrolly and about rubbish GP. Can you see someone else or are you happy to wait until after more tests?

I've been wrapping Christmas presents as seeing a friend next week and won't see before Christmas.

MistySkiesAfterRain · 25/11/2021 09:13

Baffled. I'm going to stop daily weigh ins anyway, but I bought a Salter body fat scale. I'm 33% body fat which is better than 44% that the gym said last year.

But my weight! On the Salter digital scale I'm 7lbs heavier than my Salter analogue scale!

I feel like I need to weigh myself in 2 more places to now test which is accurate.

Youdoyoutoday · 25/11/2021 10:10

@MistySkiesAfterRain

Ask a stupid question, but how does a set of scales you stand on know how much of your body is fat?

buzzofthebumblebee · 25/11/2021 10:22

And that is the reason I'm not upgrading my old scales Misty !!! That would give me the hump (weight) - but good news fat% gone down. But yes, how is that calculated?

But is it all relative? And no one-size-fits-all? I can be same clothes size as a friend, look and appear same size, but I am usually a good stone heavier and we can't believe it !! I claim bone size (density) has a lot to do with stuff too. My natural bone size being quite large - e.g. bracelets and watches never fit. My ankles are so chunky too.

Changing subject - anyone else have gorgeous weather today? I love autumn on a day like today.
