Nah, no drinking due to driving, managing to avoid chocolate and cheese, so just dinner and pud, then spare dinner later on! With the same xing day!

poorpaws Lovely and so cosy! I have managed to hang onto the wagon since Monday . We won't know until Tuesday if the wedding hotel will close. I'm starting to really worry that the happy couple won't make it out of the airport - still I can do nothing about it so will just have to keep my fingers crossed. Hope all you lovely ladies are sailing serenely into Christmas ...

Good morning everyone, I hope you are all okay and eagerly awaiting Christmas.

I was doing so well yesterday until my lovely neighbour brought me some home-made shortbread. I don’t like shortbread, apart from hers which is divine. It was devoured in an unladylike fashion, And because I’d got the taste for something sweet I then went on to other chocolate and nuts. Of course today I am berating myself like mad but what’s done is done and I’ll have to try again.

I’m meeting my dog walking friend this morning so should get some good steps in. This afternoon my sister-in-law has invited herself to bring kids presents. I don’t know if it’s me just being a Scrooge at Christmas but in these Covid times I don’t think it’s right that people should just feel they can come to your home. I know she will be visiting loads of people and since I have a compromised immune system it worries me. To be honest my blood has been boiling this morning but I’ll open some windows and hope for the best.

@Bjarnum I hope everything goes well at the wedding. If it doesn’t I wouldn’t worry. The couple will still be happy and have had a lovely day and that’s what really counts.

I’m not sure if people are still trying hard in the run-up to Christmas But it’s very easy to put on a lot of pounds before Christmas even arrives so I’m trying to at least keep a little bit of control, if not much 🤐😁

Hi all!
I'm still hanging on in there with the effort @poorpaws. A client brought in a box of amazing looking custard crumble style mince pies yesterday. I offered them around the office at 4pm.. a truly perfect time for a hot cup of tea and one of those bad boys don't you think!!! Well I decided to join in and have one and it was THE BEST Grin I suppose that's the thing when you've been dieting.. treats seem so much more special. Which is how it should be really! But I compensated and had a 300cal dinner. Sorted!

Sorry to hear about your SIL being so assumptive @poorpaws, it hardly makes for an enjoyable hosting experience when you would rather they weren't there!! Can you make up an appointment you have to get to so as to keep it short?

Xmas trees are looking beautiful! @Bjarnum it looks like you have one of those 'Christmas houses' ... if you know what I mean!! And @poorpaws your twinkly view just completes it! Wish I had windows with a view. One day!

Keep on going everyone, every little decision adds up to the ultimate goal. Sneaky mid week weigh for me and I have 1lb to lose to get to my xmas GW!! Whoop whoop!

Purlsandhooks · 16/12/2021 10:55

We have a naughty elf on the shelf here so my tree is covered in loo roll at the moment

Bjarnum · 16/12/2021 12:50

purlsandhooks Well done - only 1lb to go! Wish I was as focussed ... Loving the tree - where is the elf going next?
poorpaws call her and ask her to leave the presents outside and explain why. (Or better still get dp to do it) Not worth the risk to your health and I don't want to be stuck being super super human without you from January till Easter.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 16/12/2021 22:46

@poorpaws I hope your SIL's visit went ok? I'd never assume at the moment that it was ok to visit someone and spend time in their house!! It's one of the things I'm most worried about over Christmas actually, in case the DC pass anything on to PIL - I mean we'll LFT before we go (assuming we can get more tests!) but still...

@Bjarnum I heard someone on the radio today talking about their planned NYD wedding, this one was in Leeds - they were saying they're being as careful as they can as there's a lot of elderly relatives on the bride's side and again, no-one wanted to pass anything on - but again, the wedding had already been postponed and if they postponed/ cancelled they'd lose their money Sad so weren't sure what to do for the best. Hope all your wedding plans are going ok!

Thank you for everyone's lovely Christmas photos - I was really sad and disappointed this evening as I'd spent ages cleaning and tidying up so we could finally put up the Christmas tree - this had involved a charity shop run, some Freecycling and some donations to local nurseries to get rid of big toys! Got the DC home from school and they were just sodding awful, DS1's ASD tendencies were back with a vengeance (when he loses concentration it's like having a toddler in the house again, but a particularly large and clumsy one) and they squabbled non-stop. By the time DP got home from work I was ready to walk out and leave them all to it Angry I think everyone went to bed a bit sad about it but there was no way I was starting the decorating by the time DS1 had finally calmed down at about 7pm. On the bright side DP actually did some housework without being asked as he could see I was close to actually losing it!! That's the second time he'd done some this month, wonders will never cease!!!

I'm still thoroughly exhausted with AF here but am planning some exercise over the Christmas holidays - DP keeps saying he wants to lose weight but then sitting on his arse and eating tons so I'm going to do a short term gym membership and see if he'll actually join us. Must go to bed soon, just wanted to catch up on here! @Purlsandhooks your elf is far more energetic than mine - just working out if I can be bothered to do anything for tomorrow or whether to teach the DC a lesson that if they're so incredibly horrible the elves won't even visit them...

Bjarnum · 16/12/2021 23:46

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl Just heard that DS and wife have done all their tests and completed all the paperwork and are set to go. They leave US tomorrow. Lots in the news about Christmas and omicron - nothing about NY. Just have to wait and see.
Glad to hear your DP has made a bit of an effort - men always seem to massively underestimate how much time and energy go into running a household and coping with the DC. Of course it's a well known fact meals cook themselves and fairies do the laundry. Hope you get some time to relax.

poorpaws · 17/12/2021 08:36

Good morning everyone

@Purlsandhooks love your tree. I quite fancy a loo roll tree 😁

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl so sorry you are struggling at the moment. I think it’s a case of deep breath and carry on Flowers

It went ok with SIL. I think my problem is we are very different people. She is very outgoing, gregarious and assumes everybody wants her there (she’ll be visiting loads of family when she goes back to the East Midlands on Wednesday and I always feel that some of them don’t want her because she goes so often). I am completely opposite, I don’t visit anybody and only the chosen few come here. I think probably it’s me that’s wrong but I’ve never been a people person I’m an animal person. Anyway I opened the windows wide, gave her a cup of coffee and a mince pie and sat over the other side of the room whilst she talked. She stayed about an hour and it was all quite pleasant but I wouldn’t have visited. She brought cards and little sachet bags with money in for the kids which could easily have gone through the letterbox but she wanted the company I think and was going on to several more friends.

The diet has thoroughly broken down this week despite my best efforts. My neighbour had made 48 mince pies and brought me eight, (four different flavoured mincemeat), Chocolate shortbread and bitter lemon shortbread. I caved. I’m trying to get back on it again today to do a bit of damage limitation because I can see at least a couple of pound gain on Monday the way it’s going.

I hope everyone else is managing to stay on track a little bit but christmas is getting close now and it’s more difficult with every passing day.

Having a sausage and egg mcmuffin to fill in a bit of time.

I've got two large home made weetabix drinks, packets of rice and packets of soup today. Not ideal but didn't have time to make anything.

Bjarnum · 17/12/2021 17:59

Well the hotel just messaged and cancelled all the wedding arrangements. And the overnight stays.
Sorry - what does AF stand for ( I,m not very bright)? But I am keen to be involved!!
Interesting that poorpaws said about being triggered by sweet stuff. Just read an article that says sugar is an addiction - and if you can stay off for 2 weeks you can defeat it. Actually, as time passes it is the savory stuff that appeals. What do you think?

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 17/12/2021 23:09

Oh @Bjarnum, what a shame!! Does that mean the whole wedding is off, or the wedding bit can go ahead but everyone will have to find somewhere else to stay? Either way, sad times Sad

AF is a period (from Auntie Flo I believe, in Mumsnet terms!). I can sort of see the logic in the missing savoury stuff not sugar - in that you can live without sugar, but your body needs (a tiny bit of) salt to survive - although I'm not sure that explanation would cut the mustard when someone offers me the Quality Street over Christmas Grin

@TalkToTheHand123 I really struggle to think of healthy lunches/ snacks for me - it's like all my mental energy is used up elsewhere and I'm left with the soup and sandwiches day after day!

Your neighbour sounds AMAZING in many ways @poorpaws but perhaps not the best person to have around for weight loss, sadly! I'm glad it went ok with your SIL though, but I'm with you, I wouldn't be visiting loads of people at the moment.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 17/12/2021 23:14

Does anyone have any damage limitation plans for Christmas?! I've got the DC to write out loads of things they'd like to do over the holidays and thankfully plenty of them involve exercise - walking to places they like, bike rides, swimming etc. We're going to look at a (posh!) gym soon to see if it's worth taking out a short term membership, it'd be worth it to have a lovely pool to visit rather than the local manky one. I'm just so frustrated with DP constantly saying he wants/ needs to lose weight and then doing nothing but (a) eating and (b) watching TV... I actually find it difficult to be so inactive, he would literally do nothing all day if he could. He has a gym membership but hasn't been for over two years - yet won't cancel it as he says "but then I'll never go!" Confused

poorpaws · 18/12/2021 08:23

@Bjarnum oh no! I’m so sorry, this sounds like a nightmare. i hope the actual wedding can still go ahead. I’m sure your head is all over the place and you’ll be glad when it’s all done and dusted. I hope all goes well (as well as it can do in these difficult times).

So last night was absolutely horrendous food wise. I had dinner early (big mistake) and id bought some amazing hazelnuts covered in white chocolate and coconut which I couldn’t stop eating, DONT BUY ANY! That again gave me the taste for more chocolate and I ended up in a chocolate (and ice cream) frenzy. This morning I feel hungover (no alcohol at all) and regret every mouthful.

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl I haven’t got damage limitation plans but the dogs will have their usual 2.1/2 hour slow walk. DP will then spend some time with his cat (he only lives 5-10 mins walk away) while I cook dinner. I’ve tried to think of damage limitation with food, so prawn cocktail to start, roast chicken dinner (I’m a fussy eater (with savoury food, will eat anything sweet) and I don’t like turkey or pigs in blankets or stuffing so plenty of veg and different potatoes I think. Dessert I haven’t decided on but that most definitely won’t be any sort of damage limitation.

The thing is I’ve started self sabotage already and once I’m on that road I can’t seem to control myself so if I’m very honest I’m expecting a large gain. This is why I’m already speaking of a super super human week in early January. I haven’t worked on the fine detail yet or gathered the troops (although @Bjarnum will most certainly join me and others I hope).

It’s getting tougher by the day so do what you can.

OP posts:
poorpaws · 18/12/2021 08:40

Oh and I forgot to add the two small fruitcakes and mincemeat cake I’ve got soaking in brandy for Christmas Day. They will be gone very quickly so no damage limitation there.🤦‍♀️

OP posts:
Purlsandhooks · 18/12/2021 08:49

I think damage limitation for me will be not refusing myself anything I want but not having anything in excess. Wine would be the only exception Xmas Confused I'm pretty self disciplined otherwise!!!!

Bjarnum · 18/12/2021 12:35

We are still trying to find other venues but so far no luck. Mind you even if we find one we won't get our money back in time to finance it! I was so cheesed off I had a Chinese take-away, box of chocs and a bottle of port last night. Now, of course, I feel disgusted with myself and have a hangover into the bargain.
The first Monday in January is on the 3rd - I'll try not to go too mad until then but intend to start 2022 by getting a real grip. So, super super human effort is on the cards, paws . (And everyone else who can face it)

poorpaws · 18/12/2021 18:04

So the self sabotaging continues. We had an impromptu family visit around lunchtime today so instead of my usual orange and yoghurt I ate very fattening food. I started one of the Christmas cakes and I can’t stop eating it even though the family have left and I have had copious amounts of chocolate. I think Christmas is in full swing here now and I’m going to so regret this in January.

OP posts:
Gennz18 · 19/12/2021 17:24

Shuffling in shame facedly to say that I have been on a TEAR this weekend. Family Christmas on Saturday but then Sunday was worse as I hoovered my way through lefts over mince pies, ham sandwiches, pasta, cheese and crackers, chocolates.

Have forced myself on the scales and am weighing in at 78.4! Nearly 2 kgs in 4 days 😲

Off for a run now to at least try to rein it in a bit before the big day.

I really take that “eat, drink and be merry” maxim way too far.

Gennz18 · 19/12/2021 17:27

It’s summer here in NZ and we will be having down to our bach in a couple of days for nearly a month. The key risk there is the alcohol as lots of friends will come to stay and DH tends to have his first beer in the sun at 3pm 🙄

But I’m going to try to focus on being really active and limiting booze - if I exercise every day it’s limits the other bad habits.
