Hello & Welcome

September has come around so quickly; children getting ready to return to school and Christmas around the corner (116 days). A time when summer is starting to fade and an autumn chill is in the air. Changing seasons is a natural transition that we echo in our day to day live’s. I for one look forward to cosy nights by the fire and mentally prepping for the coming festive season.

A part of my Christmas prep also includes dropping a few extra lbs ‘to make room’ for a little foody extravagance… and a Baileys or two 😬

Carrying on from August’s Thread this is a space for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The members of these threads are inspirational, supportive and happy to share their progress (the ups and the downs).

We all know that if we eat right, get outside & move more your mental health will reap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a healthy cycle.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. Personally, I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I try to not overload on carbs etc, include a protein source with most meals and aim to glug enough water. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with light weighs.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding. We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. I’ve weighed daily at times and weekly at other times. Do what works for you.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

Jump right in! If you’re not too shy, post a bit about yourself 😊. How do you plan to do it? What do you want to achieve? What excites you about your future self? Together, we can create a whole new you!

You’ll be glad you got on board this time next month 😊

Morning!

2lbs are back on but I've decided to go back to full on calorie counting and weighing stuff out again!!

Thanks @TheRealHousewife

@SunshineCake how are you today? X

LosetoHike · 07/09/2021 10:25

Thanks @TheRealHousewife @SunshineCake for all the advice before my weekend with my friend at the weekend! Had a great time but didn’t feel like I over did it and then didn’t have the usual panic after the weekend!

@Graphista you’re right about the Pringles! I really can’t eat them in moderation so they’ve been banned from the apartment! I’m lucky and my OH is on a health kick as well at the moment and is so supportive so we’ve banished all unhealthy treats from the apartment which I’ve found really helpful 😊

My OH is naturally very slim and he is trying to build muscle/tone up at the moment. I know it’s totally illogical but I’ve found it really hard being heavier than him for the last year. Previously we would have both been around the 70kg mark but I’ve found it really embarrassing that I’m now ~15kg heavier than him. Has anyone else experienced this?

So sorry to hear you have been so unwell @sunshinecake. Sending lots of healing vibes your way!

Tuesday is my way in day each week and I am down 0.5kg from last Tuesday. I had weighed in last Wednesday for the start of the month at 84.5 so only down .1kg from then but just having to remind myself that as long is the scales is going downwards I should be happy!

SW:87.7kg
CW:84.4kg
GW:70kg (mini goal for January)

Thatsplentyjack · 07/09/2021 13:53

@TheRealHousewife hmm it would be a stretch for me too, and the problem is she is quite insistent that it has to be more than one session a week. I understand why, but might be better trying to do some online workouts at home. If anyone has any recommendations for good weight training workouts?

Cathy31 · 07/09/2021 13:57

@QueenMabby @swampytiggaa @fallfallfall @Crazzzycat thank you so much, this is all so helpful. I do enjoy walking, but have been at toddler pace for a few years now, and find it hard to justify going for a walk by myself. But I know it has huge mental and physical health benefits. @swampytiggaa, I'm sorry to hear of your losses, but what a strong, positive response you had. And it's so true that we owe it to our children to take care of our health.

I'm going to look at my diary and plan in some walks in the days I don't have yoga. I think writing them down will make them seen less optional... And hopefully, running 10k will be an addiction of mine in time Grin

SunshineCake · 07/09/2021 14:09

Thank you all for your good wishes.

DH was just allowed an hours visit so that was nice and he brought chocolate for if I feel like some. Still waiting on my MRI. I feel like I won't get home today Sad. Apparently doggy knows I am missing and is sad 💔

fallfallfall · 07/09/2021 14:30

@SunshineCake, no kissing or sharing the chocolates!

shreddergodo · 07/09/2021 14:37

Hey all!

Woke up weighed in at 63.8 kg but I usually drop a few pounds right before my period so that’s probably what’s going on. Today I’ve had

-coffee with milk

-salad with 2 veggie kievs and some pasta on top

  • another milk coffee

Walked the dog and did some stretches. A good day I feel but I know the scale may oscillate a lot due to the time of month for the next week. I want to keep focused.

Has anyone tried the 1:1 diet- obsessed with upriver SJ strum’s journey right now, as a mum she’s a real inspiration!

Harnett11 · 07/09/2021 15:00

At a garage waiting for car to go through mot!! Hope the cars in better condition than me Grin.Thought I’d have a catch-up on posts weighed in this morning at 9st 7.8lbs very pleased with that for week one Smile have done 7000 steps so far hoping to do 5000 more when I get home. Hope everyone is doing well & those who are poorly get better soon x

Madeinshortie · 07/09/2021 16:10

Changed my username no longer Harnett11 mine was a bit boring compared to everyone else’s Smile. Didn’t really know when I first joined what to put I should have put more thought into it Hmm

fallfallfall · 07/09/2021 18:22

I’ve weighed in both Monday and Tuesday and I’m 146.4 great as prior to my camping I was stuck at 148 for 3 weeks.
Lots of steps easily 20,000 a day.
My added veggies must have helped.
Hopefully I can continue.
Oddly enough I weighed the same at this time last year. A whole year with no sustained progress.

SunshineCake · 07/09/2021 19:07

We had a kind of hug @fallfallfall so hope that's allowed. I haven't kissed him in days so hopefully not given it to him.

Not going home today. Fingers crossed for tomorrow. I'm a bit worried as they are giving me good pain relief here, not having antibiotics though, so don't know how I'll manage at home . Dh has said no running though I went on Saturday. Not the best idea I have had but I had to try.

SunshineCake · 07/09/2021 19:12

@fallfallfall in solidarity I checked and on Saturday I was 11 stone 2.4 and in November 2020 (and January 2021 x 4 and March 2021) I was also 11st 2.4 so I get the frustration. I think my lowest was 10 stone 8.6 in June.

fallfallfall · 07/09/2021 19:14

mono is caused by a virus so antibiotics will not help.
it can take 4-6 weeks to recover and during that time your at risk of internal bleeding, so gentle walking is the max recommended for some time.
of course my experience is ancient but i don't think there have been many changes in the cause and treatment.

SunshineCake · 07/09/2021 19:23

I know I can't have antibiotics but just wondered how it would clear up as I'm only managing by being on pain relief. I barely ate dinner as it was too painful.

Dh has already told me I'm going straight to bed when I do get out. I had spent two weeks in bed with only a couple of days out. I am puzzled as to how I've got it and the doctor couldn't help.

swampytiggaa · 07/09/2021 20:08

Before I met him my husband got glandular fever every winter. He didn’t get it from kissing I know that for certain bless him.

He was a bugger for not taking holiday from work he’d go from January to November without a break generally working 6 days a week plus overtime in the week then he would be ill in December. Doctor said it because he was so run down.

He’s not had it since we’ve been together and he’s taken regular holidays 😊

Hope you feel better quickly and get home soon

SunshineCake · 07/09/2021 20:18

That's interesting @swampytigga though I thought you could only get it once then were immune. I'd better tell DS1. I have had a few emotionally difficult weeks and last year I had six weeks of looking after dh then got covid and was in bed for two weeks so maybe I was just run down enough to get tonsillitis then it's progressed. I'm not doctor. Just surmising. Just hope I get my MRI and I'm allowed home if it is clear. It's separate to the GF though.

fallfallfall · 07/09/2021 20:20

@SunshineCake, it's a virus that takes 1-2 months to develop symptoms. so you "caught" it a while back.
your body's internal organs will kick in to help clear the virus, lots of fluids, rest and healthy foods. right now by not eating or doing much you are resting your bowels and liver and heart and all sorts of good things will come from this.

SunshineCake · 07/09/2021 20:34

So not necessarily from kissing someone? The doctor said it's more common in younger people and is known as the kissing disease then he chuckled.

SunshineCake · 07/09/2021 20:37

Good to know I don't have to eat much. I did that 43 hour fast not by design of course, but have had breakfast today as thought I should. A small portion of porridge she orange juice. Eating a lot less than normal. I know my liver is sad at the moment.

swampytiggaa · 07/09/2021 21:14

Obviously I’m not a doctor so can only go on what I’ve been told but the first year I knew him he was off work with it… ended up taking holiday rather than sick leave every December 😂😂 he’s not had it now since 1996 which was when we met

fallfallfall · 07/09/2021 21:34

@SunshineCake, it's spread by saliva so as i mentioned could be a shared bowl of popcorn, shared drink, shared plate of food, shared straw or toothbrush. but something you experienced a while back (1-2 months ago).
so far i've done okay food and exercise wise. but the first half is the day isn't usually a problem.

swampytiggaa · 07/09/2021 21:56

I’ve eaten a bag of crunchie rocks today. Won’t buy them again because I didn’t particularly enjoy them tbh. My arse was hurting after bootcamp yesterday so I was feeling sorry for myself 😂😂

CalmConfident · 07/09/2021 22:28

I love crunchie rocks Grin

SunshineCake · 08/09/2021 06:09

We don't share toothbrushes etc but it's not impossible we might have shared a food item though not sure what. Woke in the night to messages for dd. She has tonsillitis. I've hardly seen her so no clue.

buzzofthebumblebee · 08/09/2021 06:42

As if it couldn't get worse sunshine - your poor DD. Flowers

Week 1 and I've lost 3lbs. So down to 12 13. I'm happy, but not lulling myself into false sense of security as first week is the only week where it drops off in a big chunk!

Hope lots of other losses today.
