Good grief, I’m sure the year is speeding up! July has passed so quickly!

This is a space for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The members of these threads are inspirational, supportive and happy to share their progress (the ups and the downs).

We all know that if we eat right, get outside & move more your mental health will reap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a healthy cycle.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. Personally, I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I try to not overload on carbs etc, include a protein source with most meals and aim to glug enough water. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with light weighs.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding. We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. I’ve weighed daily at times and weekly at other times. Do what works for you.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

Jump right in! If you’re not too shy, post a bit about yourself 😊. How do you plan to do it? What do you want to achieve? What excites you about your future self? Together, we can create a whole new you!

You’ll be glad you got on board this time next month 😊

Hello everyone! Sorry to hear people are having a difficult time at the moment 💕 much love from me.

I’ve gone back to intermittent fasting to keep the evening snacking at bay although I’m off to the pub this evening but it’s to celebrate my friends birthday so that’s ok 😊 and I’m taking my running group out before so we’ll be stinky in the pub 😂😂

Today I had a late breakfast and early evening meal which I think will be the way forward for me initially. I’ve had chilli for tea which was lovely 😊

UnLunDun · 19/08/2021 06:33

Morning all 😊. 2 lb loss for me this week, even with TOTM, so happy with that. Having a v sensible day food wise as feeling a bit meh in my stomach. B - porridge skimmed milk, L - smoothie, D - salad with a f/f protein.

SunshineCake · 19/08/2021 11:04

Morning everyone

Hope everyone is feeling good. I miss MrsJones, HalfShrunk and my brain will not give me the other name.

I went to bed early but woke twice, one for the loo the other time when my phone decided to reset itself. Dozed between 4-6 and then gave up. Went for a run but had to leave dh and DDog 40 minutes into the walk as felt awful. I've had a lovely hot shower but now I feel really cold with a headache. I think I ate something yesterday that disagreed with me too.

Still confused by the science of weight loss. Only claiming a loss of 0.8lb from Wednesday last week to today but from Monday to today it is a loss of 2.8lb. Wish I could understand it.

Feeling very overwhelmed and emotional. Lots going on and all worrying stuff though dd going to uni is a good thing but I just feel it's all too much. I'm going to have an easy couple of hours then dh is doing the running around for the children and cat then I will try and get stuff done.

Lunch will be salad, quiche and a spare piece of roast beef. Tea is sausage, egg and chips as haven't had in months and just felt like it. Strawberries and a little bit of cream for afternoon snack.

Drink your water everyone.

SunshineCake · 19/08/2021 11:05

Well done @UnLunDun on your 2lbs!

TheRealHousewife · 19/08/2021 11:40

Good Morning All

That’s great to read @UnLunDun! Well done 👍

Pleased to report my headache has passed. However I had quite an ‘Alice in Wonderland’ moment this morning. Went to get dressed after showering and my shirt & jeans felt tight, as if I’d expanded everywhere.

Went to the scales which confirmed I’d put on 3.5lbs OVERNIGHT. I had pain meds yesterday as well as Greek yoghurt with a bit of honey. Not exactly a blow out. Like @SunshineCake I’m totally puzzled with this weight loss malarkey 🤔

Still having my fish & chips later as OMAD as that is what we planned for and looking forward too 😬.

@swampytiggaa has was the pub trip. Did it get messy 😬

You need sprout seeds, and a container you can drain off. Cheesecloth and elastic band would do.
1 heaping TBSP made this whole batch.
First you soak the seeds for 24 hours
Then you drain and leave it half tipped
You rinse and tip twice daily
It stays in a well lit spot (don’t dry them out)
After 3-4 days they are sprouted well enough to go into the fridge. They keep for about 7 days.

Very cute @swampytiggaa. I've been wondering how Geronimo is doing. He is due to be put down and his owner is devastated.

I've woken up with another headache after not a great nights sleep again. I don't know what is wrong but I have booked a covid test to rule it out as DS1 is coming home and the in-laws are coming over tomorrow. I am exhausted, having a lot of headaches, feel sick, some foods tastes different, I have time when everything hurts and I just feel awful. On top of that, emotionally I am struggling too. Also hoping DH gets his results today but if he is fine it still leaves us wondering but if there is something wrong hopefully it is fixable.

I hope you are all well and have a good day.

CescaCesca · 20/08/2021 07:37

Weigh Day for me and I'm still 9 st 13 but up 0.8 lb. I had a look back and the first time i got down to 9 st 13 was 11 weeks ago. Which means ive been teetering up and down a few pounds for nearly 3 months 😫
It's a bit depressing. I know I'm not giving it 100% so its my own fault but finding and keeping the motivation is proving hard!!

@graphista i have a super sweet tooth so any sugar will do! I cant have a small treat and im done for the day/week, i always go overboard and struggle to reign it in. Its a mental battle for me! I do think i have a mild form of binge eating disorder.
There has been leftover chocolates and birthday cake from my bday in the house so that hasnt helped me this month!

Ho hum!
Hope everyone is ok x

SunshineCake · 20/08/2021 07:59

Take heart @CescaCesca. You haven't gone up hugely. You're in our🐢🐢gang and I've been stuck at times for months snd months. Currently in attempt about five or six to lose the same half stone. I know it doesn't change how you feel but I'm sending solidarity.

TheRealHousewife · 20/08/2021 09:23

Good Morning Everyone

I’m loving the sprouting @fallfallfall. I’ve done it myself on occasion. They add such freshness & crunch to a meal. Yours look great! 👍 in fact you’ve motivated me into doing another batch 😬

@CescaCesca I feel your frustration. It’s so annoying isn’t it. Keep going, you’ll get where you want to be.

@swampytiggaa you and your tribe look great!

@SunshineCake I’d like you to know I often think of you and hope you’re ok even though I realise you’re posting your not ❤️

In other news, yesterday I didn’t get a fish & chip supper as it was closed due to Covid. Had a chicken and chorizo gf pasta dish with a home made tomato sauce I made.

Menu

Meal 1 - Salad with mozzarella & boiled egg.

Meal 2 - Omelette with mixed peppers and chicken.

Water, water, water 💦

Have a great day!

Thank you @TheRealHousewife. I did nearly WhatsApp you yesterday.

Currently in bed with a honey and lemon and a headache. Can't take any more paracetamol yet. Dh is walking the dog and will do everything today. I have had my covid test and await the results. I think DS1 is still coming home but if it is positive we'll have to cancel my PIL coming over tomorrow. I'm sure I don't have it. I just don't know what is wrong.

TheRealHousewife · 20/08/2021 10:14

@SunshineCake you know you can WhatsApp any time!

If any of you lovely ladies would like a buddy you’re welcome to pm. I’m happy to hook up via insta or wa.

In other news …. Scared of spiders don’t read on.

The other day as I was about to leave the kitchen a humongous spider blocked my path. As I tried to cover it with a glass it reared up on its hind legs (big jointed legs with knee caps and everything) and snarled it’s fangs/pincers at me. I’ll not tell you what my oh did! Then last night his big brother was sat on top of a door frame. Flipping huge. Like small saucer size from paw to paw. He’s now gone to join his siblings 😈

Today every nook and cranny is being hoovered and hoovered again. I’m itching just typing this out 🕷.

Same here @TheRealHousewife 😊 always happy to be a listening ear 😊

SunshineCake · 20/08/2021 11:23

Thank you @TheRealHousewife Flowers.

We put conkers in the corners and we have had less spiders than usual. Just a couple or three as opposed to what feels like loads.

I've been confined to bed.

TheRealHousewife · 20/08/2021 12:04

@SunshineCake That sounds like what you mind and body are craving. Rest & recuperation 🛌

OP posts:
Graphista · 20/08/2021 12:05

Wrote a post last night but then fell asleep and didn't post it!

@TheRealHousewife thank you for your kind comments and encouragement

Hope you're feeling better now. The losses 2 in a row is great the gain is very odd indeed

@Crazzzycat luckily I didn't have anything massively calorific in! Or I'd have really been screwed

My dd has problems with potato too do you have EDS/hypermobility? She does and apparently some sufferers find potato starches irritate their gums and stomachs

@swampytiggaa thanks for the love the alpaca walk looks fun

@SunshineCake sounds like you have a lot on your mind does anything help you take things one step at a time? Re being ill yes COVID needs to be checked for but remember other bugs are still around too so it could easily be a "normal" bug you have

@CescaCesca would planning sweet treats that are low cal help at all? Rather than trying not to have them at all?

Spider here last night too but just a wee one

Grocery delivery day today although maybe you're aware of the glitches they were having last night ? So I'm away to phone and check on that

Just to be annoying despite my wobble I still got a loss! Only 0.5lb but I'm taking it and running!

Haven't hit my goal of 5% loss by this week but I'm not worried about it I'll get there

Got a planned blowout next week as dd is up visiting and we're meeting up and having afternoon tea but I'll make that the only thing I have that day and be v low cal the days either side too but basically I don't care! I've not seen her in over a year and I plan to enjoy the catch up!

QueenMabby · 20/08/2021 12:09

Hi all.
@swampytiggaa - looks like your dd and you had a great time.

@SunshineCake - hope your PCR results come back soon. It does seem like there’s something not quite right so hope you get to the bottom of it.

Much drama here - yesterday my brother got the call for a transplant. Lots of waiting around for test results and bloods and then for the organ to arrive but it did just after midnight and he went down for the op just after 3am. No one could be with him which was pretty awful so he’s having to deal with it by himself which is hard (we’re all 2+ hours away and he’s single and anyway no visitors/support are allowed as all the patients are immunosuppressed) but the op went well and he was up from recovery at about 10am this morning. Just waiting to hear from him when he’s less groggy. Not much sleep last night waiting for information and news so I suspect there will be many carbs in my immediate future! I don’t mind though - it’s just such a relief.

UnLunDun · 20/08/2021 12:54

@QueenMabby I really hope your brother is doing well, sending every positive thought.

I am doing okay, v tired which isn’t great on a Friday but hey ho.
Today’s food: B - berry porridge, skimmed milk. L - choc honey on toast. D - sweet potato and celery soup.

SunshineCake · 20/08/2021 12:57

Thanks everyone.

@TheRealHousewife I'll be good in stay in bed today.

Welcome to the 🐢🐢club @Graphista! A loss is a loss. I was wondering this morning if my body feeling like crap is because I have a lot of my mind but it feels so real I feel so rubbish.

Thank you @QueenMabby. I'm hoping I'll get the results before bedtime. I'm hope your brother recovers quickly.

Graphista · 20/08/2021 13:18

The mind has a powerful effect on the body @SunshineCake this is well documented and researched. From being able to control responses to pain, altering levels of consciousness to phantom pregnancies...

I can feel "fluey" when really what's going on is bottling up emotions

My mum is a firm believer in releasing emotions to avoid physical health issues and certainly there's lots of evidence that those who suffer angina, high blood pressure etc it's often at least partly due to not dealing with emotional stress

So it shouldn't be discounted

TheRealHousewife · 20/08/2021 13:46

@Graphista Afternoon Tea with your dd sounds so good! The positive benefit of family contact will massively outweigh any food indiscretions. Enjoy both! I’m totally with you about the physical/psychological being entwined. One affects the other and visa/versa.

@QueenMabby Wishing your dear brother a speedy recovery!

@UnLunDun Fatigue sucks. I don’t always sleep well and it takes its toll. I think I’ll join you on a Lose It Day Bed 🛏 for r&r, everyone welcome. I’m just having a post lunch lay down (helps decompress my spine). People really do under estimate the restorative benefit of rest! Hope you feel more energised soon.

@SunshineCake pleased to hear that!

I had a menu change and forfeited my salad for a cauliflower egg fried rice & veg stir fry. I weighed and calorie counted it all and was shocked that it came to 530 cals. I need to do this to avoid calorie creep. I’ve been eyeballing some portions and splashes of oil but for now I’m measuring everything. This isn’t a chore to me and I don’t obsess I just need to know what’s going in.

That’s kind of you @swampytiggaa 🤗
