Severely obese - Accountability thread - trying to avoid WLS

lotstolose1 · 09/06/2021 09:58

Hi all,

After my recent post about bariatric surgery, and lots of helpful and encouraging comments, I have decided to make an accountability thread for me to try and lose the weight naturally. I will remain on the NHS waitlist in the meantime and then if I don't have the need for surgery in the end then great. Smile I am morbidly obese and hoping to hear from other people who are too.

I'm not near a scale at the mo, but I am at the docs tomorrow so I will get weighed and measured there so I have the most accurate weight & BMI to post.

If anybody would like to join in that would be great.

@MeadowLines yeah true, I'll just do it every so often I think so I don't get disheartened

@SchrodingersImmigrant I keep meaning to buy a tape measure! Will have to get one thank you ♥️

@shitfuckcommaetc welcome to the high diabetes risk gang 😢

Have lost 6lbs in WW now and am happy with that. Had pizza for tea as it's pay day and having been careful earlier and using the Pizza Hut restaurants nutritional info (had a Pizza Hut delivery) I think I still stayed under my point limit. Very pleased with that!

lotstolose1 · 19/06/2021 13:04

@motherofawhirlwind WELL DONE! BiscuitThanks

Pizzas - have you tried tortilla wrap ones? They are sooooo good and very WW friendly. Any diet friendly really. If you haven't already the WW UK Facebook group is really good for ideas x

Hey, can I join you all?! I have a 6 month old. I had all of lockdown and then maternity leave to lose weight and I'm back to work next week and it hasn't happened. I've got around 7st to lose but I'm 2st heavier than when I got married so that is my first goal. Going to try intermittent fasting (basically no snacking in the evening when the kids are in bed)

lotstolose1 · 20/06/2021 19:35

@User4638 yes of course! I'll be weighing in tomorrow but I reckon I'll have just put even more on. I've got no bloody willpower and feeling so crap for myself at the min...

My main struggle is the snacking too Sad

I snack. 2 a day. Only at certain time so if I miss the window, no snack. I have yogurt and fruit, ryvita and sauerkrat, tzaziky and some ryvita to dip, quork with herbs and slice of chorizo or egg whites, popcorn, cheese and fruit, cheese and veg, humus and veg, veg etc. Nice and simple things.
Not all at once😁
All that really helps me with self control. But it doesn't just happen overnight

So using Monday as my weigh in day

Current weight 286lb (-5lb)
Bmi 43.3 (-0.7)

Happy Monday everyone

3Britnee · 21/06/2021 07:57

Could you not buy them and snack on cucumber, gherkins, celery, radishes, snap peas etc?

I find sticking to certain times has really helped me cut out my constant grazing. So I eat at 12, 4 and just before 8 so I'm finished by then. So if I'm hungry I only have to wait a few hours at most. And I chug loads of water.

Once you break the snacky habit, and get used to the times, it does get easier, even though it doesn't feel like it will at first.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 21/06/2021 09:55

There is a big difference between anacking and grazing. 1 is controllable and can be kept as a controlled habit. Second one isn't.

Can I join? I’ve piled on weight, I was always around 12/13 stone (I’m 5ft 2in) so always bigger. I then lost a lot of weight doing 5:2 and was down to 9ish stone but over the past 6 years I’ve gone up to 17stone 12 😥. Just a combination of meeting my DH, getting comfy and not really noticing it which is crazy when I write that down but in my head I’m still at 14/16 yet when I can’t get my legs into a size 18 or I see a picture of myself do I realise.

ANYWAY! I joined slimming world 3 weeks ago and have lost 10lb so far. I’m not really doing slimming world, I’m calorie counting more than anything but I like having the accountability of going every week. I’ve tried so many diets but my head really feels in the game this time. I follow people in Instagram who’s lost about 8 stone (similar to what I need to
Lose) and she said it wasn’t fun, it was boring and long winded but it was just something she needed to do and that’s how I’m looking at it. I’m trying not to focus on how MUCH I need to lose and instead taking it week by week. I feel so much better and more confident just knowing I’m doing something. I’ve got a huge family wedding next year (in April) and my aim is to be a size 12 by then which I think is doable and realistic.

So I will join you on this thread if that’s ok? I’m using nutracheck instead of MFP but if anyone uses that and wants a friend on there let me know!

3Britnee · 23/06/2021 08:31

How are you getting on @Lotstolose1?

lotstolose1 · 27/06/2021 11:17

Hi everyone, sorry for being absent. I've had a whirlwind week. I've got quite lucky and actually ended up with the money to have my surgery now. It's been a long hard debate with myself but I'm going to go for it now while I'm young and still without co-morbidities. I wish I did have the willpower and drive to just get on it now and get the weight shifted myself but I need to admit i don't think it's possible for me. Hopefully my new tool will help.

I wish you all luck in your own journeys ♥️ in two weeks time hopefully my life will be changed for the better Daffodil
