Severely obese - Accountability thread - trying to avoid WLS

lotstolose1 · 09/06/2021 09:58

Hi all,

After my recent post about bariatric surgery, and lots of helpful and encouraging comments, I have decided to make an accountability thread for me to try and lose the weight naturally. I will remain on the NHS waitlist in the meantime and then if I don't have the need for surgery in the end then great. Smile I am morbidly obese and hoping to hear from other people who are too.

I'm not near a scale at the mo, but I am at the docs tomorrow so I will get weighed and measured there so I have the most accurate weight & BMI to post.

If anybody would like to join in that would be great.

How are you getting on @lotstolise1 ? Has your stomach issue cleared up yet?

3Britnee · 13/06/2021 11:35

@Lotstolose1

lotstolose1 · 13/06/2021 11:47

@3Britnee nope, still really bad, hoping GP will phone tomorrow with some results - I've been put off eating because as soon as I do I'm in crazy pain and immediately have to go to the toilet. I'm so hungry, I feel ravenous at times.

I have managed to get a bit of food in, mainly has been dry toast & bananas. But I have tried my best at getting plenty of veg in an evening meal. Not really bad breakfast/lunch's.

Just hoping when I do feel better that I resist the urge to stuff my face with the stuff I haven't been able to eat the past week.

Not really had* not bad 🙃

Noooooo! See it as a kickstart or helping hand.

Could you have IBS-D or gluten intolerance? I get like that if I have too much gluten.

Try making soup to have for dinner maybe.

Saxineno · 13/06/2021 12:15

Hay!

I started calorie counting a couple of months ago when my weight hit 300lbs. I've lost 16 lbs so far, which is a small drop.

I'm struggling with knee and hip pain, which is being investigated, but if they can't find a cause and put it down to weight, I am going to ask for a gastric bypass or sleeve.

Can't believe I've done this to myself tbh. And I want to change so bad.

lotstolose1 · 13/06/2021 12:16

@3Britnee

Yes, I am starting to become really worried that it's IBS or even worse. TMI, but there has been blood too which is concerning.

I'm just trying to eat as plain as I can at the minute, I've tried being a bit more adventurous at times and it's backfired and made me feel terrible.

Sounds daft but I can't stand soup, any flavour at all; even chicken. It's the texture for me Envy I managed some noodles cooked in chicken stock, I know they're not really healthy but they did make me feel a bit better

@Saxineno

Hi! Well done on the 16lbs, I know how hard it can be to stick too though, even after a loss, I think we concentrate on how far we have to go vs how far we have come.

I've been referred by my GP now for surgery, so will probably be waiting a while to even hear for a first appointment. I really would love to do it myself, just think I could be running out of time. I'm going to give it a bloody go while I wait though, and maybe I won't need it in the end. I just have barely any willpower

OP posts:
3Britnee · 13/06/2021 12:20

There can be a few reasons for blood so don't worry too much about that yet.

lotstolose1 · 13/06/2021 12:23

@3Britnee yes, just a bit worried and with my weight obviously being so bad it puts me at more risk for stuff. Hopefully GP will call tomorrow and it will just be an antibiotic job.

Hi everyone, I was 310lbs (22st 2lbs) last December, six months later I am now 216lbs (15st 6lbs). It's possible!

I've just found your fab thread, very interesting and supportive. Just in case anyone's on Facebook there's a lovely group created by Jason Manford on there too who support each other and it's good for inspiration if you're feeling in a bit of a rut. www.facebook.com/groups/759640624225292/

Sorry to be boring but literally just eating fewer calories than my TDEE!

Some tips: Eat food you like, eat filling food, focus on your goal, find a weight loss buddy for moral support and most importantly - don't let a stumble on the road be the end of your journey.

Shitfuckcommaetc · 15/06/2021 16:28

Hi, I hope you don't mind me jumping in.
I've just done that test someone posted about up thread, I scored 22 😔
I'm 5'8
291lb
BMI of 44

I need something to change, I need to change! So from today I'm going to be overhauling my diet.

I'm going to try and get more exercise in on my days off from work. I have an extremely physical job and on average walk 20-27k steps per shift.

I did SW years ago, but it wasn't sustainable for me. I just like my booze too much, although I'll definately be switching the wine for spirits now

SchrodingersImmigrant · 15/06/2021 16:47

. I just like my booze too much

I felt that🙈 I haven't goven up on wine. I count calories so what I did was to take bit off different days and ram them into one day😂 Et voilà! Wine night

3Britnee · 15/06/2021 18:00

Lambrini do a carb free wine.

lotstolose1 · 15/06/2021 21:14

@Shitfuckcommaetc of course not! Welcome! I've been a bit quiet sorry, still unwell but feeling a little better. Going to weigh in morning I really hope I've lost something 😭

OP posts:
Shitfuckcommaetc · 16/06/2021 16:22

How was your weigh in today @lotstolose1

lotstolose1 · 16/06/2021 18:03

@Shitfuckcommaetc I completely forgot about it 🤦🏻‍♀️ I'm going to check when I get home but I usually weigh in morning so will have a definite number tomorrow 😂

MeadowLines · 16/06/2021 22:13

I might follow along if that's ok? I caught sight of my stomach in a mirror today and it gave me a fright! I have a lot to lose but Im going to break it down otherwise I get very despondent!

I hope you feel better soon @lotstolose1

lotstolose1 · 17/06/2021 12:16

I've put on a bloody pound! 😭 after all the sickness I thought I'd be down 5 by now, still no better either so not much of an appetite. Going to give it a big push and try and get more walking in. Hopefully this lb will go by Monday 😭

OP posts:
MeadowLines · 17/06/2021 14:03

Maybe try and not go by a weigh in on one particular day, as you could have bloating or anything that has caused the numbers to go up!

SchrodingersImmigrant · 17/06/2021 14:49

It's really best to combine measurements in my experience.
Scales and tape measure. One or the other always moves, but not necessarily both at the same time.
Sometimes my weight stuck for a week, but tape measure showed difference and vice versa.
