Hello & Welcome 😊 WOW 😯 June already! What a start to meteorological Summer; stunning weather and easing of Lockdown.

Firstly a massive Thank You to @SunshineCake who has done a stellar job in taking charge of May’s thread 🙏🌟❤️. I was happy for sunshine to carry on but she kindly invited me back to start the new month, so we agreed to make it a joint effort. (I’m still battling ill health and will post when I can).

This thread is for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The members of these threads are inspirational, supportive and happy to share their progress (the ups and the downs).

We all know that if we eat right, get outside & move more your mental health will heap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with light weighs.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

Jump right in! If you’re not too shy, post a bit about yourself 😊. How do you plan to do it? What do you want to achieve? What excites you about your future self? Together, we can create a whole new you!

You’ll be glad you got on board this time next month 😊

Congrats on your 5 miles *@swampytiggaa*, impressive 👍
Thank you! I’m currently debating entering next year’s Brighton marathon. Entries open tomorrow. I thought I had longer to decide 😂😂

Have been so busy , we have a holiday cottage ( converted barn next to our house ) and it’s lovely , lots of Staycationers - which of course means lots of cleaning and washing going on
Had a bit of an alcohol intake at the weekend , but alcohol free for the week now
We had a lovely day out in Pembrokeshire on Sunday ( Bosherston lily ponds and Barafundle Bay ) the walk was a bit longer than we remembered and clambering up the sand slope to get back to the car park was a challenge ( and the Greggs baguette for lunch was possibly not the best choice ! )
Running group last night , we started on slopes .... hard work
Will weigh on Wednesday , hoping for at least a lb off

Have a good day all 💧and remember the water

Hi there!
Hope you don't mind me jumping on the thread 😊
I've got a bit of post pregnancy/2 young children weight to lose, and have decided now's the time for action! My main reasons are health- I just don't feel healthy; tired lots and getting ill all the time. Hoping making more healthy food choices and upping my steps will give my immune system a boost!
A question I have for the group - good bathroom scales?! I have some ancient ones so time for an upgrade I think! All the reviews I read about various models- people seem to be complaining about accuracy. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance

TheRealHousewife · 08/06/2021 12:21

Afternoon All

Do it @swampytiggaa, it’ll give your regime a firm end goal 👍 🏃‍♀️ The camaraderie is great and I’d imagine people will still be cheering from the roadside.

That looks absolutely beautiful @Doilooklikeatourist, lovely photos! I wouldn’t worry about the Greggs, it sounds like you worked it off.

@Millie2008 A warm welcome. Congrats on your babies. I have the Aria scales which are electronic. I can Wi-fi link to my weight loss progress apps, which I find motivating … and I do like a graph 📈. They also sync to the Fitbit device if you have one.

Hi All. Hugs to those who need them. Hi @Millie2008. I went to the gym yesterday. Can only do the 'elderly' motorzone machines, as I pull my back/hip out otherwise, but then I go for a swim, which I am fine with. Hopefully will lose some this week. Have worked out my calories and macro nutrients using the James Smith Academy questionnaire. Teenagers get better as they get older. My Dd is now early 20's, and is generally a lot more considerate than when she was younger. It was just a case of getting through it, but getting her to wind her neck in when required. Easier said than done when talking from the other side I know.

TheRealHousewife · 08/06/2021 14:12

@SpongeBobJudgeyPants (love you username :)) Double session, weights and swimming! 👍 I didn’t know they had ‘elderly’ section. Sounds interesting. I have to be very careful what I do so I think I will explore at my local gym.

@TheRealHousewife I am still thinking about it 😂😂 I’m doing the virtual London marathon in October so not sure I want to commit to another one!

Was planning a run this morning but I’ve hurt my knee so we did a walk instead. Up to 36k steps so far because I’ve just walked to get my jab done 😊

Might have to ring the doctor in the morning

Hi all, mind if I jump in? It'd be lovely to have people to chat with as I'm trying to avoid talking to people about it in real life!

I have 2 stone to lose, I'm aiming for 1lb per week so that it stays off this time!

Graphista · 08/06/2021 15:26

Family full of addicts very familiar with the serenity prayer - not always easy to put into practice

Let stress get to me yesterday and gave in to sugar cravings hopefully back on track today

Hi @Millie2008 regarding health, you may want to consider nutrition side of things too. Very easy when we have young dc to neglect ourselves. How are you doing for vitamin/nutrient intake do you think ? Easiest way is to aim for 5 a day - 3 portions healthy veg (potatoes and certain others don't count), 2 portions fruit

Iron side of things it's not just the iron rich foods you need to be consuming vit c rich foods at the same time to aid absorption

Vit d - are you getting enough sun?

Just some thoughts, hope you're soon feeling much healthier

Cant comment on scales I only just bought some myself I went on customer reviews and got salter glass ones

@SpongeBobJudgeyPants good to be cautious with the gym machines. Swimming good exercise I miss it. I've PM'd you.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 08/06/2021 15:39

I wanted some fancy Bluetooth do it all type scales, but my DH is stuck firmly in the Stone Age with some things and seeing as he would share them he just wanted some he could stand on and read the scales without integrating an app. So I got the ones they had in stock at Boots in the middle of last years lockdown/stock shortages period when you took what you could get 😂

Crazzzycat · 08/06/2021 17:06

@HalfShrunkMoreToGo cross trainers are bloody hard work! Twenty minutes is more than respectable.

When I started on mine I couldn’t even make it to 15 minutes on the lowest setting. That was only a couple of months ago. I’ve gradually worked up to doing three 30 minute “advanced” sessions a week, but it’s not exactly been a pain free, easy ride. On the plus side, I can now definitely feel some proper leg muscles under all my flab 😄

Welcome to the thread @Millie2008! I wonder how many people complain about their scales not being accurate because they don’t like the figure they’re seeing on them...But to answer your question, I have a Salter scale and am very happy with those. It does all sorts of fancy things, but to be honest I only really use it to weigh myself so don’t use most of them!

Ionacat · 08/06/2021 17:52

This really isn’t a great week for me. My back is still playing up. Physio is booked for Friday (just went private in the end as my GP couldn’t offer anything until July.) Have bad PMT - running usually makes it much better but just checked I’m due any time in the next three days so plan is to get through them ideally without reaching for lots of comfort food and reassess once I’ve seen the physio on Friday. I hate feeling like this - I feel like I’m in one of those cartoons with a black cloud above me.
But it is Bake Off the Professionals tonight and I do have a new crotchet project to start.

swampytiggaa · 08/06/2021 18:04

@Millie2008 we have Renpho scales which are Bluetooth and have an interesting app… links with Apple health and Fitbit and MFP etc

Tbh whichever scales you get find a spot with a firm surface to put them on and leave them there. Doesn’t matter if they are 100% accurate to other scales as long as they are accurate in recording your weight losses etc if that makes sense

This is 100% the problem. Pre-children I got my 5 a day easily and ate well in general. But my nutritional intake has become pretty awful. My plan atm is to actually focus for a few weeks on "adding in" (which basically means getting my 5 a day). I wouldn't be at all surprised if I was deficient in some important vitamins. I'm still breastfeeding my youngest and was tandem feeding for a while- which I'm sure depletes some things. But I don't know where to start when it comes to taking a supplement etc...

For anyone who like HIIT exercise videos I just did this one and it was great fun and made me feel all young listening and dancing to the music of my youf

Graphista · 08/06/2021 21:53

Supplements have their place but ideally food is better

What does a typical days intake look like at the moment?

Rewis · 09/06/2021 07:11

Weekly weigh In

Start may 14: 88.8kg
Last week: 86.4kg
Today: 86.3kg

This is a bit frustrating. I really want to avoid calorie counting but I might have to start

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 09/06/2021 07:18

@Rewis are you drinking all the water in the world (or at least does it feel like it 😁)

The weeks I have the best weight loss are the ones where I can say with absolute honesty that I've had 3lts of water a day, every day.

It stops you snacking as much because you don't feel as hungry, if you aren't having enough then your body holds on to what you are having and you end up with water retention and your body uses water in the process of breaking down fat cells so it helps with that too.

The first week of drinking 3lts a day I was up and down to the loo roughly every 30 seconds but that settles down after a week and your body gets used to it.

Doilooklikeatourist · 09/06/2021 07:24

One pound down .
11-11
Our scales are truly ancient!
They belonged to MIL and we had them after we cleared her house after her death in 2002 .
They still work , so I’ll keep using them 👍

SunshineCake · 09/06/2021 07:29

Thank you @Graphista for your post about your dd. I hope it is the same with mine. She hasn't read, replied or texted herself since she hung up on dh on Sunday. And don't stress about one day of emotional eating. Being aware is half the battle.

Great work there @swampytiggaa. A big run and keeping out of the biscuit tin Star. Sorry to hear about your knee. Hope the doctor can help.

Good luck for your weigh in @HalfShrunkMoreToGo and I think 20 minutes on the cross trainer is excellent Star.

Lovely photos @Doilooklikeatourist and good luck for your weigh in. I'm weighing today too after I have run.

Welcome @Millie2008. You have come to the right place. This is such a lovely group of people, we do have one man but I have forgotten their name as my memory is shocking, and it is my favourite thread on here.

Welcome @StellatheStarling.

My scales are quite fancy in that they tell me my water and fat percentage as well as my weight but I don't understand it so don't look at those.

No wonder you sound fed up @Ionacat. I hope the next few days aren't as bad you fear.

Wow @HalfShrunkMoreToGo, 4lbs in a week is amazing. Well done StarStar. That has made me get myself out of bed and I am off for a run now.

Have a good day everyone.
