Hello & Welcome 😊 WOW 😯 June already! What a start to meteorological Summer; stunning weather and easing of Lockdown.

Firstly a massive Thank You to @SunshineCake who has done a stellar job in taking charge of May’s thread 🙏🌟❤️. I was happy for sunshine to carry on but she kindly invited me back to start the new month, so we agreed to make it a joint effort. (I’m still battling ill health and will post when I can).

This thread is for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The members of these threads are inspirational, supportive and happy to share their progress (the ups and the downs).

We all know that if we eat right, get outside & move more your mental health will heap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with light weighs.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

Jump right in! If you’re not too shy, post a bit about yourself 😊. How do you plan to do it? What do you want to achieve? What excites you about your future self? Together, we can create a whole new you!

You’ll be glad you got on board this time next month 😊

Good Morning

@Rewis you’re making steady progress. 2.5kg/5.5lbs in 3 weeks is great progress. Nice steady and controlled. If you repeat that rare every 3 weeks you’ll soon reach goal. Well done 👍

@HalfShrunkMoreToGo Awesome consistent progress. Over 50lbs GONE! Congratulations 🌟🥇👏.

A warm welcome @StellatheStarling , you’ve come to the right place. Great ladies, no harsh posts or criticism. You’ll soon settle in.

@Millie2008 you’re welcome.

@swampytiggaa I think you’re doing great and setting sensible targets. You know your own limits and you are wise to not over burden yourself.

Nice to be back @Puffalicious

Got to say I was glad there was no one watching me do that exercise video as I'm just not even close to being as coordinated as she is so I think I looked more like a chicken being electrocuted than a young emo/pop punk fan getting down with the youf 😂but my heart rate got into the high 150s and I got the Apple Watch 'you have completed your circles' buzzy message so it did the job of fulfilling my exercise requirement for the day.

swampytiggaa · 09/06/2021 07:44

I’ve got today and tomorrow as my days off as I had my second jab yesterday. Had a good nights sleep and my knee feels loads better so I definitely think it’s my work trainers at fault. I’m not running today to rest it but I will walk up to our shopping outlet and see if Nike have anything suitable in the reduced section 😂😂

Husband has his jab this afternoon so I’ll walk over with him which will sort my exercise for the day!

swampytiggaa · 09/06/2021 07:49

Well done everyone on your losses or even staying the same 😊 plus well done on adding exercise.

I’m going to continue to up my water. I did eat too much chocolate last night because I felt horrid and my knee was bothering me but on the plus side I didn’t eat biscuits. And the chocolate got me through a Clint Eastwood film so it was necessary 😂😂

BrioLover · 09/06/2021 09:29

Morning all

So much progress for you all! Also sending some strength to those in tough weeks Thanks

Slight gain this week for me - not overly concerned as it's the week before my period and I always feel more sluggish/heavy. I've been eating well but really noticed that I was carb heavy over the weekend and was ravenous all the time! So back to eating lower carb as it clearly agrees with me.

A nice NSV for me though - I tried on a jumpsuit that was snug at Easter and it fits really nicely again! So I'm pleased with that.

SunshineCake · 09/06/2021 12:20

@Rewis @HalfShrunkMoreToGo is right. I'm sure my weight loss has kicked in and been helped by the fact I drink a lot of water. I don't calorie count at all. I'm doing intermittent fasting and averaging about 19 hours at a guess.

Well done @Doilooklikeatourist. Remember a loss is a loss.

Glad your knee feels better @swampytiggaa. Just a thought, I have noticed a blister on my foot today, not in a place I think I have had any discomfort. Any advice as my trainers are fairly new..

@BrioLover all positive things there. It is not just about the numbers on the scale.

Ran today. Very hot so just 9km.

SW way back when October 2019 14 stone.
SW at day one of starting Couch25k May 9th 2020. 12 stone 9lb.
Today's weight 10 stone 8.6lb Grin. Finally hit the 2 stone from running loss. And it's my lowest weight from what I can remember, since before I had 20 year old DS1. I know it took six months to lose baby weight from him and a year after baby number two but I don't remember what I got to.

BrioLover · 09/06/2021 13:17

@SunshineCake StarStarStarStarStar for you!! Massive well done!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 09/06/2021 13:26

Sounds like we're all pretty much headed in the right direction! I was out and about yesterday, so I forgot to focus on food much. @SunshineCake as I said, I second Graphista's thoughts. When offspring turn into young adults, they seem to get better mostly. Can't wait to see my soon, she is teacher training but many hours away, which means a day trip doesn't cut it. I should go to the gym tomorrow, but my sleep has been rubbish, so I may go the day after, and do my excercise bike tomorrow instead.

Rewis · 09/06/2021 14:10

@HalfShrunkMoreToGo you are right. I don't drink enough. I don't think my body has been created to take that much liquid 😂. Maybe I can add another bottle on the table but I don't snack either and I've given up eating nice stuff before bed! Just a stupid quark instead of a nice 99p cheeseburger that is screaming my name after football! I know my problem. It's the portion sizes. I can't get behind the eating every few hours thing and then it's discipline. Dad had bbqed lovely chicken with the sides and mum made some rhubarb pie and then there was wine. I could have just salad and chicken and small piece of pie. But then as a rare treat I needed to have way too much! Shocker...discipline is the problem 🤣

Millie2008 · 09/06/2021 14:45

Thanks for all the scale recommendations :-)

You all put me to shame re exercise 🙈 you're all doing so well! 👍

MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat · 09/06/2021 17:05

Hello, can I join? I’ve lost nearly 3 stone since the start of January. I have 10lb left to go but I’m plateuing at the moment and my patience and motivation are very much waning!

I log food on my Fitbit, aim for 1200 calories but recently I find myself going over quite often so need to get back to what I was doing before as I know it works for me.

Currently can’t exercise as have back issues, had a horrible slipped disc from my last pregnancy which massively flared up last summer and I couldn’t walk for 6 months and out on a lot of weight and was in a lot of pain. Had surgery in December and touch wood seems to be mostly ok although still have sciatica and need to be careful with it. I am doing a lot of walking though as the novelty of being able to walk again has not worn off!

SunshineCake · 09/06/2021 17:35

Thank you @BrioLover. I'm very happy and was very shocked when I saw the numbers.

Welcome @MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat. 3 stone in five months is incredible. I feel silly about my two stone in 13 months now Blush. Do be careful with your back. I have fallen down the stairs twice and did some bad damage to it that took years to feel better so I feel for you. Losing weight has helped.

MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat · 09/06/2021 17:45

Thank you @SunshineCake 2 stone in 13 months is brilliant! I had quite a lot to lose as I had 2 pregnancies close together and never lost my baby weight and then the back issues. After my operation I was very determined to get the weight off for the sake of my back so that has helped keep my motivation until now! I think losing weight has helped a little. Back issues are so awful. All caused by lifting my first son when I was pregnant with my second. I’ve got everything crossed it is fixed permanently now but being very careful as I don’t want to go back to how I was last summer!

I’ve stayed on track food wise today I’ve had

B - blueberry banana porridge muffin + a blueberry liberté yoghurt (196 Cals)

L - quorn ham and mustard sandwich on 50/50 bread, lightly salted popcorn and a satsuma (300 Cals)

S - tinned peaches (98 Cals)

D - will be a Mexican pasta with avocado (595 Cals)

Which should leave a few spare Cals for a bit of dark chocolate.

SunshineCake · 09/06/2021 18:51

Thank you @MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat. Enjoy your chocolate ! What is your Mexican pasta meal? Sounds lovely.

TheRealHousewife · 09/06/2021 18:55

Evening All

Wow 😮 @SunshineCake that’s a fabulous milestone. 3.5stone kicked to the curb. Bloody well done, you’re awesome 👏👍🌟🥇🏃‍♀️🔥. I remember when you first started running and you didn’t know if it’d make a difference …. Now you know it’s made all the difference!

@MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat It’s great to read your back is somewhat fixed. How did they fix it if you don’t mind me asking (fellow sufferer).

Have a nice evening all …. Got to go, my supper is ready …

Today I’ve done 20k steps kept out of the biscuit tin and drunk 2 litres of water. I’m happy with that.

Not expecting a loss tomorrow.. I’m peri menopausal and my period should be this week. I’ve had the mirena fitted to calm them down so no bleeding but lots of bloating. Not worried about it tho.

Planning on a very gentle treadmill plod in the morning to test my knee out then I’m doing a hilly run and/or walk with friends on Saturday in preparation for my hilly half marathon at the end of the month.

I’ve decided against signing up for Brighton marathon. It’s a lot of money as it’s a hotel for a couple of nights food travel etc and it’s over my daughter’s 16th birthday. Her last 2 have been shit would like to do something nice next year.

SunshineCake · 09/06/2021 19:07

Thank you @TheRealHousewife. You've always been so supportive and never given up on me when I had my many strops Blush.

I love my running and will carry on but today I have a blister on my foot and I don't know if it means I need new trainers. Haven't had one before and my trainers are newish. Any ideas anyone ?

Well done @swampytiggaa. You are the Queen of keeping out of the biscuit tin!

I told dh that I am considering a lunch of chocolate as I'm stuck in this new tangled idea of only eating when I'm hungry and after I have had lunch I'm full so....he hen looked at me and said "just chocolate?" Grin.

swampytiggaa · 09/06/2021 19:12

@SunshineCake are they different trainers? New brand or style? They may not suit unfortunately.

For running I am safest in hoka bondi or elevon or brookes adrenaline. I buy whichever I can get cheapest 😂😂

Have you had a gait analysis done?

MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat · 09/06/2021 19:16

@TheRealHousewife I had a microdiscectomy in the end. I had years of physio, osteopath, steroid injections but nothing worked in the end so I’m very happy to have had surgery. It’s made a huge difference. Still have some sciatica and a little back pain but nothing compared to before. Sorry to hear you are also suffering, it can be truly horrendous!

@SunshineCake this is my pasta recipe it’s quite an easy one and very tasty -

SunshineCake · 09/06/2021 19:39

They are the same brand as the first pair but more expensive. I haven't had a gait test but a neighbour has told me I'm an over pronation runner. The blister is on my right foot, inner part. Dh has Brookes but mine are ASICS.

Thank you @MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat. Looks delicious and right up my street.

swampytiggaa · 09/06/2021 20:13

It’s hard with trainers. My friend had 3 pairs of hoka arahi’s . First 2 pairs were fine. Third pair ripped her feet to shreds. Really odd.

Mind you a friend of mine just completed 900 miles in 4 weeks wearing cheap trainers. No injuries no blisters nothing. Jammy hit.

swampytiggaa · 09/06/2021 20:14

#git

SunshineCake · 09/06/2021 20:17

I'll see how I go. I wasn't in pain where it was so it was rather a surprise to see a blister.

swampytiggaa · 09/06/2021 20:23

Actually it’s been really hot hasn’t it and you’ve been doing longer distances? It’s possible that your feet have swollen slightly causing an issue or extra sweating might cause friction.

Might be worth looking at changing your lacing and having them looser. Sorry if I’m saying stuff you already know

SunshineCake · 09/06/2021 20:42

It was hot this morning to the point I came home early. Believe me I know nothing so I'm grateful for all your tips. I'll try loser laces tomorrow. Thank you.
