Hello & Welcome 😊 WOW 😯 June already! What a start to meteorological Summer; stunning weather and easing of Lockdown.

Firstly a massive Thank You to @SunshineCake who has done a stellar job in taking charge of May’s thread 🙏🌟❤️. I was happy for sunshine to carry on but she kindly invited me back to start the new month, so we agreed to make it a joint effort. (I’m still battling ill health and will post when I can).

This thread is for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The members of these threads are inspirational, supportive and happy to share their progress (the ups and the downs).

We all know that if we eat right, get outside & move more your mental health will heap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with light weighs.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

Jump right in! If you’re not too shy, post a bit about yourself 😊. How do you plan to do it? What do you want to achieve? What excites you about your future self? Together, we can create a whole new you!

You’ll be glad you got on board this time next month 😊

And the blooming gold star didn't post!

SunshineCake · 25/06/2021 18:45

Thanks @Graphista. I hope your therapy goes well. I have seen half a dozen different people over the last sixteen years but it has only really been the last two I saw, 2019/2020 were the only two that really helped plus one lady I saw for six sessions who was lovely and helped a bit but not in the same way. I've found you really need the right person as much as the right kind of therapy but you also need to be in the right frame of mind to do it.

I'd do the Asda delivery as an extra. You can get the non food thing you want, the food bits you forgot and try some new stuff.

Millie2008 · 25/06/2021 18:45

My overnight oats didn't work!!! ShockSad

I followed a recipe I found online, did double quantities thinking I'd have enough for a couple of breakfasts. But there was loads of excess liquid when I opened them in the morning- and so they really weren't that nice. I still ate them though 🤣 as I'd made the effort and they were still healthy obvs, but I'm gutted!
Any good overnight oats recipes that will work please?!?!

Graphista · 25/06/2021 18:58

@SunshineCake I've lost count on therapists! Most are frankly useless! - whole other thread. This one is nice but I'm not making great progress but I think there are other reasons for this which I am planning to address with her next week. Recent events have led to me having something of a review of my life and I am fed up with not having one! Enough is enough! This needs to be resolved but I cannot do it without the right support. 4 years housebound is long enough!

I've taken the plunge and put the Asda order in, I've a few days grace so I can change my mind if needed. But there's a few items they do that I want at the moment so makes sense

All this talk of overnight oats! As a scot I had porridge forced on me as a kid and now the smell turns my stomach! Apparently this makes me "not a true scot" Grin hey ho

CocoaMojo · 25/06/2021 19:10

@Millie2008 many years ago I did slimming world and found this recipe was good www.slimmingworld.co.uk/recipes/overnight-oats I often used a muller light for the yoghurt (SW are obsessed with muller lights) but the standard recipe is good too

I also really liked their baked oats if you have more time in the morning. www.slimmingworld.co.uk/recipes/baked-oats

Have also found this one good- love almond butter!www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/overnight-oats

Puffalicious · 25/06/2021 20:03

Millie I simply turf about 50g oats into a ramekin with blob of natural yogurt, frozen berries and a drizzle of honey/ a few seeds. Cover in fridge. Loosen with a little milk if needed in the morning and away I go. The DC often add some cashews at night or a little nut butter in the morning.

Millie2008 · 25/06/2021 20:20

Thank you so much @Puffalicious and @CocoaMojo 👌🏻 this makes so much more sense. The recipe I used had a ton of milk plus yoghurt 🙈 which explains all the excess liquid. Right, take two...

Puffalicious · 25/06/2021 20:22

Strange recipe Millie all that liquid would be yucky!

Oops wrong thread! Lol

Graphista · 25/06/2021 23:03

Tried the clothes on and they fit! Even the denim skirt! Only a very slight muffin top. But I still look easily 5 months pregnant!

I don't have a full length mirror so was using phone to see - bit of a wake up call to say the least!

Did make me feel a bit "god I've a long way to go!" But I know slow and steady wins the race and this absolutely isn't about looks for me it's about health and fitness.

I turn 50 next year, I want to be as fit and healthy for my 50's and beyond as possible.

Crazzzycat · 26/06/2021 10:12

Great news on the clothes @Graphista. My mood is forever swinging between “oh look how much I’ve lost already” and “oh damn I have so much left to loose”. Keep focusing on those positives and you will get there 💪

Has anyone tried making overnight oats with non-dairy milks? Or is the yoghurt kind of essential?

TheRealHousewife · 26/06/2021 13:39

Good Afternoon All

I remember the traditional alarms @Graphista 😬, I also remember getting my little cash wage in a little brown envelope every week on a Friday! Showing my age!

Just a quick visit as out and about. I’ll be creating & posting Julys thread in next day or two.

Enjoy your weekends Everyone! 😊

Same @Crazzzycat! I’ve got 2 and a half to go and it feels insurmountable. I think because I am only losing a pound or two a week.

SunshineCake · 26/06/2021 15:13

I hope you can address things with your therapist @Graphista and make progress. With one of mine her memorable comment was "you are annoying me now."Shock.

You can do it @fat13. I have lost 3.5 stone and it has taken since October 2019, on and off. And the weight has gone on and off!!

Well, little cat went to the vet this morning for her x-ray. Sedation didn't go to plan but they were able to get her under and she is now home with me. She's not well Sad. No confirmed diagnosis yet but she's being treated as if it is bronchitis. A specialist is being consulted. I have made the big mistake of googling and there is no cure. Life expectancy is only 4-5 years. She's only around 8 1/2 Sad a rescue so not certain of her age.

Graphista · 26/06/2021 17:42

Thanks guys for the kind comments and support

Clothes both a boost and a reminder/warning.

Until I was about 32/33 I was never above a size 10 except when pregnant I genuinely find it really hard to think of myself as a fat person! And I ate a lot then too, there's a photo of me at my parents size 8 with a Mars bar in one hand and a snickers in the other! And that was after I'd eaten a huge roast! I could honestly eat like that and stay a healthy weight - no idea why

@TheRealHousewife my first office job I made up the wages as part of my role, I can remember sitting and having to work out what COINS I needed from the bank run so I could make them up!

@fat13 if I hopefully do as well as those of you now at healthy weights I know the weight loss slows down in terms of number of lbs as you're still losing same % wise but cos you're a lower weight that % equates to smaller amounts. So my 4lb seems a lot but it's probably (my maths is shit!) a much lower % of my total weight than 1lb would be of your total weight - does that make sense? So maybe if you can you could calculate the % loss to motivate?

Ahh yes the unprofessional comments. I've actually been told - by CPNs plural (community psychiatric nurses for those unfamiliar with the abbreviation) :

"Pull yourself together"

"I think you enjoy being this ill"

"I haven't time for your nonsense"

"You're not trying hard enough"

"You don't care enough about dd to change things"

I kid you not

SunshineCake · 26/06/2021 18:03

Bloody hell Angry. They should be reported.

swampytiggaa · 26/06/2021 20:00

I’m sorry that you have had unsupportive comments @SunshineCake and @Graphista. some people really are in the wrong bloody job 😡

I’ve just had a clotted cream scone 😊 tbh it’s actually my tea as I didn’t fancy food. I worked today 4-7am then went back in 12-3 for deliveries. Ended up clocking out at 6:12 😱 due to the person preparing the deliveries having a day off and not being covered. So I had to do it.

Knackered now.

Have deferred the half tomorrow. My friend’s foot is still playing up my knee is a bit niggly so we were going to walk it. Severe weather warning for overnight and tomorrow so don’t fancy walking the coast path in pouring rain.

Disappointed but it’s the sensible option I think

SunshineCake · 26/06/2021 22:12

You definitely earned the scone, @swampytiggaa. I hope it was delicious. Shame about your marathon but safety has to come first.

I put Vaseline on my feet and did get a painful blister part way through so after my shower I put more vaseline and a plaster on and if seems to have pretty much gone.

Graphista · 26/06/2021 23:18

I quickly learned that reporting such things led to ME being defined as an "unwilling to engage" patient and receiving even less support

I think the scone was well deserved @swampytiggaa and sensible decision about the half too, bad weather will make an injury more likely and if you're both not 100% anyway not worth the risk.

Hope the blisters are gone @SunshineCake

swampytiggaa · 27/06/2021 06:49

@SunshineCake my feet are super soft these days with the amount of vasaline I put on them!

I slept from 8:30pm to 6:30am and feel rather better. It’s not actually raining but it is threatening it still.

Today I am going to drink more water. My consumption dropped being out and about due to not having access to a loo for several hours. I’ve definitely missed it!

SunshineCake · 27/06/2021 18:28

Glad you feel better @swampytiggaa. DH went to Asda but couldn't get a tub of Vaseline but I've got a tin to be going on with. We both forgot I'd asked him to look for some sports socks next time he went out.

Did you manage to up your water intake ? I drink loads but I'm fed up of having to get up every night for the loo. All week I've been up 2-3 times every night 🥱

swampytiggaa · 27/06/2021 19:08

Drunk 3 litres today plus numerous cups of green tea 😊 I rarely have to get up to wee but I have better bladder control than I deserve 😂😂 5 vaginal births and no pelvic floor exercises 😱

Good job I didn’t do the half as I ended up spending a few hours in a&e with my daughter. She fell over on Tuesday and crocked her knee. She still can’t weight bear 😔 so thought it best to get checked out. Soft tissue damage only so hopefully a quick recovery. She has crutches and I keep giving her ice packs 👍

swampytiggaa · 27/06/2021 19:10

Meant to say I think you adjust to more water eventually and stop needing to wee all the time. I have a bottle which holds 750ml and I aim to drink 3 every day. Today I did 4 😊

I take it to bed and drink some as soon as I wake up 😊 I aim to drink a bottle before work if I can then another when I get home then another over the afternoon.

SunshineCake · 27/06/2021 21:31

Ouch for your poor daughter @swampytiggaa. I hope she feels better soon.

I drink at least 1.5 litres a day of water and the odd milkshake and lemonade but not every day. I'm just so tired with the broken nights. I also have a pain in my side and feel very tearful tonight. I just need sleep. Will run tomorrow all being well.
