Hello & Welcome 😊 WOW 😯 June already! What a start to meteorological Summer; stunning weather and easing of Lockdown.

Firstly a massive Thank You to @SunshineCake who has done a stellar job in taking charge of May’s thread 🙏🌟❤️. I was happy for sunshine to carry on but she kindly invited me back to start the new month, so we agreed to make it a joint effort. (I’m still battling ill health and will post when I can).

This thread is for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The members of these threads are inspirational, supportive and happy to share their progress (the ups and the downs).

We all know that if we eat right, get outside & move more your mental health will heap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with light weighs.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

Jump right in! If you’re not too shy, post a bit about yourself 😊. How do you plan to do it? What do you want to achieve? What excites you about your future self? Together, we can create a whole new you!

You’ll be glad you got on board this time next month 😊

@joysmoy66 amazing! Well done!
@Puffalicious congratulations, hope you are having a little celebration of the start of summer holidays! I'm jealous, we have another 3 weeks. Its winding down a bit (in sixth form college so lots of students have gone) but I think I'm a bit scarred/exhausted from the whole of the last year in teaching tbh and ready for a break!!

CocoaMojo · 24/06/2021 10:10

@Puffalicious also, amazing loss!!

Millie2008 · 24/06/2021 10:22

Well done for the losses!
I meant to say, I lost 1Ib on Wednesday 👌🏻 again I'd rather it was 2Ib but if a pound a week is my thing then so be it!

Another question for the group- breakfast ideas please! I don't think I've mastered breakfast yet. The morning is quite rushed so I need something quite quick and easy but also healthy. I tried making porridge once this week, but not sure it's sustainable due to the faff. So I end up resorting to either toast or weetabix and fruit, both of which aren't ideal I'm sure. Any ideas gratefully received!

joysmoy66 · 24/06/2021 10:40

Thanks everyone 😁well done on all our losses!

Puffalicious · 24/06/2021 10:48

Millie overnight oats are amazing. Use low fat natural yogurt and whatever fruit you like (frozen berries work brilliantly and are cheaper). My DC also love them. Easy to prepare a and ready to take with you too- if they're out to sport early.

I'm IF so often have them about 11am.

Cocoamojo unfortunately no huge school night out as usual, but I'm off on holiday Monday, so plenty fun will be had. It feels v strange, not like end of term at all. There's none of the usual markers : school show/ sports day/ award ceremony/ trips/prom/ 6th year leaving lunch (I even miss the pranks!)/staff lunch/night out so it doesn't feel like summer at all. I have 7 weeks to try and get it to feel like it, mind you. Yes!!!! I hope your last 3 weeks aren't too onerous.

fat13 · 24/06/2021 10:50

I’ve had a bad week.

It’s 6 months until Christmas Eve and I refuse to be fat!

DH has booked a family photography session for end of July so that’s an incentive to get to 11 and a half stone for then!

Millie2008 · 24/06/2021 12:57

@Puffalicious - OMG overnight oats! Of course! That would be perfect. Why didn't I think of that 🙈😂

CocoaMojo · 24/06/2021 13:14

@Puffalicious it's weird with no usual end of year events isn't it? Anticlimactic. Hope you have a lovely holiday!
@Millie2008 I second overnight oats. I'm not really eating breakfast at the moment as I'm trying to do IF so have a snack at break time at work then an early ish lunch. But overnight oats are really good as you can just chuck in whatever you like/have and as you make it in advance you don't have to think about what you're going to have first thing.
@fat13 sorry you've had a bad week - if food related draw a line on it and focus on today/tomorrow/one day at a time!

CocoaMojo · 24/06/2021 13:15

Draw a line on it? 🤔 I meant under it!

TheRealHousewife · 24/06/2021 13:58

Afternoon Everyone

Blummin’ scales up a bit again today. I know weight loss isn’t linear …From this time last week I’m still registering a loss, so that’s positive.

@SunshineCake great to ‘see’ you ☺️

@joysmoy66 holy moly that’s fabulous! Psychologically it’s so positive on seeing the numbers below 10st. Well done you 👍👏🌟

@Puffalicious have a great holiday!

@Graphista I hear you. What about batch cooking when you feel up to it then you could have healthy meals all prepped/cooked and ready to go. Today for example I did double the amount of sauté vegetables I needed for lunch and will have the other half later with some chicken (would be good for 2 days in fridge). Saves on washing up too.

@Rewis we’ve all had fridge gravel meals at times 😬. Good way to use up left overs etc. 👍

@132orbust every little bit counts … you’ll get there.

@fat13 Sorry to read your having a bad week, we all have them. Especially if feeling emotional or stressed. I for one can totally stress eat. Or as @Graphista has outlined above, allowing ourselves to get too hungry then grabbing anything thats to hand. Planning is really useful to counteract that one. Also knowing your ‘why’ for your weight loss. The main thing is not beating yourself up and allowing it to totally derail you. You’ve got this and you’ll look great in the photos 😊

Thanks therealhousewife 😁feeling pretty good atm! It's been up a bit, down a bit for ages now so nice to see it go below 10

SunshineCake · 24/06/2021 15:25

Just wanted to say hello and thank you for the message saying I should stay 🐢🐢

I'm rather exhausted so can't reply like I normally do but well done everyone. For your losses, good food choices, for not giving up, for having goals.

I knew I needed to rest from running so did 35km on the bike instead then did loads of cleaning. Things are worse when the house is a mess and at least I can do something about that. DH is doing dinner.

swampytiggaa · 24/06/2021 17:06

@SunshineCake tips on daily running I have heard are alternate long and short runs and to give yourself a ‘rest’ day try running morning one day and evening the next 😊

Not sure what to suggest about blisters… do you moisturise your feet? I tend to vasaline before long runs after awful blisters and I haven’t had them since but not sure that’s the reason

SunshineCake · 24/06/2021 17:39

I moisturise my face, legs, tummy and hands every day but only remember to do my feet when they are really aching so I need to do that more. The blisters aren't painful thankfully. I'm going to use the bike more. It is a bit frustrating as my watch under counts the calories as I don't move and the bike seems to over count, 1100 today for example.

swampytiggaa · 24/06/2021 17:49

That’s annoying about the bike 😞 yes I have a tub of cheap vasaline and stick some on every time I’m wearing socks but then extra when I’m doing a run. It’s worth a try 😊 think you can KT tape where the blisters form but I’ve not tried that.

MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat · 24/06/2021 19:05

Hello all, I’ve been absent for a few days as very stressed with the house purchase. We were hoping to move next week, boxed up 90% of the house but the chain has gone to shit and god knows when we will be moving now. Also will have to pay stamp duty so doubly crap situation. Ugh.

I’ve been well over my daily calories for the past week but have somehow managed to maintain my current weight. I’m now 7lbs away from my final goal (41lbs lost!) so I need to rein it in and keep myself on track.

SunshineCake · 24/06/2021 21:12

Sorry to hear that @MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat. A friend finally moved this week after first selling their house in September then having to sell it again when the first couple pulled out.

I'm in bed as just so exhausted. Now have to ring the vet tomorrow as DCat poorly again.

132orbust · 25/06/2021 08:30

I find 1000 mile socks really good @SunshineCake and I also coat my feet in vaseline prior to events (not running!!) I have done. I have got the occasional 'hot spot' but never anything more.
I think this entire home buying process needs an overhaul in the UK @MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat - possibly one of the most stressful processes ever endured. Fingers crossed it comes together for you soon.

132orbust · 25/06/2021 08:32

Puffalicious · 25/06/2021 09:48

Must feel so good CocoaMojo I've 7 lbs to go and can't wait!

Crazzzycat · 25/06/2021 10:47

Well done on all those losses everyone! Congrats on making it into the healthy BMI range @CocoaMojo! That’s super exciting.

I’ve spent most of this week in bed with food poisoning, so not much to report here on either the food or the exercise front. I’m sure it will result in a considerable loss this week, but I can’t say it’s an enjoyable way to loose weight 😂

fat13 · 25/06/2021 12:51

Down to 12’5!

SunshineCake · 25/06/2021 16:32

Thank you @132orbust. I will see how I get on with trying moisturising my feet and then get the socks if the blisters come again. My sock drawer is embarrassingly full as it is. I have several categories of them already Grin. Well done on your pound off and staying the same.

Well done @CocoaMojo. I haven't weighed for a while or looked at my BMI so I have no clue where I am.

7lbs is nothing @Puffalicious Grin that will be gone by August🐢🐢

Oh dear @Crazzzycat. I hope you feel better very soon and have the consolation of some weight off.

Well done @fat13!

Another night where I was up three times so fell asleep after lunch. I went off to bed but couldn't sleep so got up and went on the exercise bike for the second time today. I did 35 minutes before lunch and then an hour later on, 41km in total.

My cat is poorly again so went to the vet today and I have to take her in tomorrow morning for sedation and x-ray. Worried about her and fretting as my youngest son really loves her. My eldest son has offered to come home from uni ❤️

Graphista · 25/06/2021 18:31

Hi all hope you're having good weeks weight loss wise (and otherwise)

@Puffalicious and others - well done on your losses!

I used to be sceptical of gold stars but they work! So you each have one in my mind - as do those with nsv, stayed the same or even a gain but not letting yourself be discouraged!

@Millie2008 breakfast ideas (need to take my own advice on this!) :

Quick and easy:

Yogurt/fromage frais

Cottage cheese with some fruit mixed in if you like

Bacon sarnie - I know! Bear with me! Lean bacon or veggie bacon (I'm veggie dd isn't and she liked this) cooked in a toastabag in the toaster! So you're not frying it. My aunt likes bacon medallions and does them this way. Either in just normal bread sandwich or toast the bread too - this is how I prefer it, then I use ketchup instead of butter for the moisture and some sliced raw mushrooms too (I know not for everyone but I love em! Or you could have sliced tomatoes)

Eggs - scrambled is quickest but whatever you prefer or you could hard boil night before, store in fridge and have them in the morning either just with a little salt, or in a sandwich or cut up in a quick salad

Banana sandwich - keep an eye on the butter, but otherwise quick filling and healthy

French toast - use fry light, one egg is plenty for 2 slices of bread.

Fruit salad - again can be made the night before, store in a tub, squeeze of lemon juice all over adds flavour and keeps certain fruits from browning.

That any help?

@TheRealHousewife yea I batch cook when I can - freezer chock full at the moment with fairly calorific items I need to carefully work my way through! When I have I will stock it with batch cooked and healthier items

I'm all for saving on washing up too! As I can only stand for doing that for so long I have to pace myself. Sometimes I have to wash up, rest a bit and then dry and put away.

Yes I MUST sort the planning - and part of that pertains to my mh and insomnia. Last few days I've HAD to be up around 1030am which SOUNDS lazy but when I've only got to sleep at 5-6am trust me it's not! BUT apparently the secret to cracking insomnia according to my therapist is not stressing about getting to sleep earlier but waking earlier even if you're tired. She doesn't mean as excessive as I have been but it was due to deliveries I was expecting and stuff I needed to do so I'm going to make a positive out of a negative and use it as an opportunity to reset body clock hopefully. I even have 2 alarms set on my phone - one is a gently tinkly tone and the one 10 mins later is the loud buzz like you used to get on clock radios! (Am i the only one old enough to remember these?) idea being the 1st one rouses me but the 2nd kicks my arse!

I use phone alarms for to do's as well as the buzzer makes me think "right! Move your butt graph!"

When I was doing we I identified certain eating triggers:

Boredom - solution do something you can't do while eating (stitching, knitting, painting, painting nails is a good one as the smell is off putting, do a face/hair mask or other "body pampering", phone a friend for a Blether)

Using food as a reward - solution find other rewards, I struggle with this

Self sabotage - still seeking a solution for that one

@SunshineCake I have severe ocd, the flat being a mess absolutely knocks me off in unpredictable ways. People think ocd = pristine house. Ha! I wish! I'm very much avoidant phase these days as I don't want to even look at "germy" things let alone touch them! I'm having a REALLY bad week on that score! Therapist next week will help I hope

One way I've found to motivate myself is saying to myself - out loud (goodness knows what my neighbours think I'm always talking to myself!) "yes it's a pain to do BUT you'll be SO GLAD you did it" it seems a daft thing to do but it works for me Thanks

Sending dcat healthy blessings

As you guys know I have obstacles to exercise, but have an upcoming physio consult so that may lead to something. I'm also gonna "dance" nothing more that silly arm movements and side step together type idea v low impact but it's better than nothing right?

@MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat I am in awe of your weight loss! Fantastic! If I manage a similar loss I will I think be a healthy bmi for the first time in over a decade. (It takes work to be this fat ya know Wink)

Hope the house situation resolved soon Thanks

Now, alllll that said I've managed a 4lb loss! Even with an apparent wobble mid week!

So pleased with that.

Unfortunately...I messed up my grocery order! I somehow managed to remove my higher cal items...and forgot to add in my new healthier options! So I think it's gonna be a tough week. I'm almost tempted to do a midweek delivery as a one off. I usually use Tesco but there's a non food item they've stopped stocking which I really need plus there are some things Asda sells that Tesco doesn't and sometimes it's nice to have a variety? So I'm debating doing that. What do you guys think? I have a delivery pass with Tesco but with the non food item I'm also wondering about once a month not getting a Tesco delivery but get an Asda one instead and get the items from Asda I can't get from Tesco or maybe just once a month an extra delivery...gah can't decide! Help!

I've also just had a mega delivery from next (I do big orders as it's easier but only once a quarter or so) nothing too fancy but I was "brave" and ordered size 18, last time I ordered 20 and 22 and most fitted but some were too big (but I can wear with belts etc until I can get them altered - denim so I can't alter myself) away to try on now

Have a great weekend all!

Onwards and inwards!
