Hello & Welcome 😊 WOW 😯 June already! What a start to meteorological Summer; stunning weather and easing of Lockdown.

Firstly a massive Thank You to @SunshineCake who has done a stellar job in taking charge of May’s thread 🙏🌟❤️. I was happy for sunshine to carry on but she kindly invited me back to start the new month, so we agreed to make it a joint effort. (I’m still battling ill health and will post when I can).

This thread is for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The members of these threads are inspirational, supportive and happy to share their progress (the ups and the downs).

We all know that if we eat right, get outside & move more your mental health will heap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with light weighs.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

Jump right in! If you’re not too shy, post a bit about yourself 😊. How do you plan to do it? What do you want to achieve? What excites you about your future self? Together, we can create a whole new you!

You’ll be glad you got on board this time next month 😊

He asked me if I wanted anything when he was getting wine. I said a bucket of water as my feet hurt and it appeared immediately. I feel bad. It's not his fault I feel down at the moment. My feet feel happier they are in warm water. Thanks.

SunshineCake · 10/06/2021 19:15

@swampytiggaa I've not had many blisters but this is the most painful one. Next time I run I'm going in my first pair of trainers to see if that makes a difference.

swampytiggaa · 10/06/2021 19:20

I developed blisters 3 miles into a 10 mile race once. By the time I finished I could barely walk. Put it down to my socks tbh.

That was honestly the worst race I have ever done. Did it the next year to lay the ghost and my running mate got hit by a van 😭😭 did it again and it was ok thank goodness

swampytiggaa · 10/06/2021 19:22

Me and my 2 friends finishing the 10 miler 😊 I’m the one in the middle

I find warm water makes most things feel better Sunshine especially if I'm a bit cranky/ down/ tired/ emotional or all of the above. So double benefits. Enjoy.

SunshineCake · 10/06/2021 20:13

Lovely photo

Just got my second hot water bucket

I am emotional, headaches, don't want to be around anyone or have anyone touch me. Poor dh has noticed I'm not going anywhere near him.

FearlessFairy · 11/06/2021 06:56

Friday Weigh In - I'm down 2.2lb 🥳 and also under the next stone bracket! Yay!!
Hopefully will stay there.

I have been drinking 3-4 litres of water each day (easier when it's hot), and been working out most days. I have watched calories but some days they are higher than they probably should be and I have had a few little treats here and there. So diet not perfect but there we are!

Well Done everyone else on their losses/NSVs this week!
Hope you feel better soon @SunshineCake

SunshineCake · 11/06/2021 07:50

That is brilliant @FearlessFairy and it is a lovely bonus when you go to the next stone bracket. Good stuff! Don't worry about the little extras. There will have been days when you were under.

I'm not running today and probably for a few days as apparently one isn't supposed to wear the shoes that gave one the blister until it heals, which could take up to a week Sad.

Taking doggy to the vet today, dreamt she died and dh was horrible to me beforehand, so feeling a bit wobbly today. Full disclosure, chocolate might happen.

Have a good day everyone and keep up all the good work.

BrioLover · 11/06/2021 10:00

A small NSV today - DH commented that I am looking great and my hard work is paying off. That was a nice thing to come down to after I got the kids sorted for school.

@SunshineCake I completely relate to how you're feeling. I sort of turn inwards when I am down. I don't have any solutions or even tips for you but I hope it passes and you start to feel more like yourself.

SunshineCake · 11/06/2021 10:23

What a lovely DH you have @BrioLover. Mine will say things but I have to ask HmmSad.

Thank you. I'm just in a mess, a fog, normally dh would be the one to talk to and make it okay but not this time. I'll just keep busy.

MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat · 11/06/2021 11:30

Well done @FearlessFairy!

I am also weighing today and am down 2lb on last week which I am very surprised at as I’ve not been as strict with my diet as I would like to be.

I’ve got 10lb left to lose until my end goal of 10 stone. Quite happy to see I now have a bmi of 23.5 considering it was 29.8 at the start of the year!

Sorry to hear you aren’t feeling great @SunshineCake Flowers hope you feel better soon.

Graphista · 11/06/2021 15:06

@SunshineCake a dip or sauce would probably defeat the object cals wise. They were ok but I won't be having them again I don't t think. Other snacks are tastier and the same or even less cals

Re dd - have faith, it'll all come good. So sorry you're feeling so low. Sad

I agree bmi is a blunt tool. The weight it says I should be is I think unhealthy, I would look faint and be barely eating to reach and maintain that weight.

@Puffalicious regarding the too big clothes, get them taken in? Certain styles it should be fairly easy to do so. Or alter them yourself in some way? I used to do that with mine and dds clothes especially dds when she was growing up and would quickly outgrow favourite items. Sleeves taken off and added to another top etc

@TheRealHousewife bless you thank you. Yea it's been a weird/difficult week. And will likely continue to be a weird/difficult month. But I'm going to try not to let it get me off track

People who see me now (if the haven’t for a while) are shocked at how I present

Oh I definitely get that! When I was younger I was slim, blonde, busty, "dolly bird" type. Now I'm just short fat and greying Grin. I was VERY slim - size 4 on wedding day - and even then used to eat plenty so the friends I used to hang out with then are shocked as I used to be able to eat anything and stay slim. Others have gained weight too though and I must admit I've thought similar myself! That I never thought they would become heavier as they were also very slim in our youth. Well into our early 30's even. The hair throws people too as it turns out quite a few thought I was a natural blonde (it was dyed but I am naturally very fair - hair and skin - but I'm a redhead which in the 80's and 90's was NOT The in thing so i disguised it) I've even had people ask me why I've dyed it darker as it doesn't suit me Grinthey're kinda right! Even my mum thinks I look better blonde but then she also thinks it's scandalous that I have long hair "at your age"

I miss being slim, healthy and not sore every damn day! Unfortunately when we're young and in good health we tend to take it for granted.

Well done to all with losses, no gains and nsv

I had a very pleasant surprise when I weighed in yesterday -

3lbs lost!

And I haven't even been that "good" just made small changes - half amount rice, different pasta sauce etc I was amazed! Hope I can keep it up!

Another small change I've made which is actually an addition is an actimel a day, always had trouble with my stomach for various reasons so I'm hoping this will reduce bloating etc. It's the fat free version so is quite low cal.

I honestly was expecting a "stayed the same" at best and was going to take this as the beginning again so pleased. Silly isn't it?

Love quark, first discovered it living in Germany many years ago, one of the few healthy foods I found there Smile I miss the food and drink from living overseas SO much (also lived in Netherlands and Belgium briefly) but it was not good for the waistline!

swampytiggaa · 11/06/2021 15:49

@Graphista that’s brilliant! Shows that tiny changes make a massive difference 😊

SunshineCake · 11/06/2021 15:56

Dd news - she had post. I sent a photo. She replied and when I asked how she was said fine then sent another text saying what she'd been doing, well one thing anyway. Then eight more messages between us so happy about that though still struggling with hot giving her proper money.

Well done @Graphista! 3lbs is fantastic. You've started and you're on your way.

I've been wondering about taking in my clothes. I have from 12-18 in my wardrobe though tbh I would never have believed I was an 18 but the jumper is from the shop I wear a 12 T-shirt from and now looking at the jumper I'm wearing, the size 18, I can see it is too big Blush. So I guess I was in denial but it's hard as all my clothes still fit when I was 14 stone. That's why I didn't realise I was so big. Are alterations easy to do? I'm still struggling and while I could get rid of some clothes that do nothing for me I still feel sad about my favourites.

SunshineCake · 11/06/2021 15:57

Belgium! I used to live there too @Graphista. Frites and Mayo!

Graphista · 11/06/2021 16:26

Thanks guys

@SunshineCake that's lovely the communication is slightly more open with your dd, baby steps eh?

Alterations depend on the fabric and style of the item. Jumpers are a bit more difficult as they're usually knitted? But generally cotton, nylon etc is fairly easy to sort.

Just a thought but I know I buy jumpers and cardis in at least a size bigger so I can wear layers underneath when it's cold (I'm in Scotland it's nearly always bloody cold!) so would it work over layers? You could also belt it in and maybe wear over leggings?

Oh god yes frites and Mayo are prob why I'm fat! Grin I never went back to other sauces when I got home. Oven fries, garlic grinder and mayo on side to dip? Heaven!

I basically ate my way across Europe!

I still hanker after many items that it's still impossible to get quality versions in Uk

I've sort of self sabotaged in a good way - forgot to order crisps! No crisps in this week so I predict I'll lose a stone! Grin ok maybe not but it will probably help but I must admit I feel a tad anxious as I ALWAYS have crisps in! I do have celery and reduced fat houmous though.

SunshineCake · 11/06/2021 16:38

Absolutely @Graphista.

I just asked dh about my jumper. He said he can tell it's 3 sizes too big, says it looks frumpy. He can't understand my mindset and it just dawned on me I could buy a new jumper in the same colour as I'm wearing as I love the colour more than the style [idiot].

Crisps were always my thing then I couldn't have many as they all had wheat on. Then when I did find some they tasted greasy and put me off. Even now I barely have them once a week whereas before I'd have them nearly every day.

MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat · 11/06/2021 16:51

I’ve just been sabotaged by my 2 year old. I got him a gold magnum after we collected my 4 year old from preschool (4 year old chose it and if I don’t get them the same there is hell to pay) he decided he didn’t like it after about 2 bites and there were no bins around and it was dripping so I had to bloom in’ eat it! Didn’t even enjoy it was far too sweet which I guess goes to show how your tastebuds change when you’re not eating sugar all the time as I used to have a real sweet tooth. Never mind will find a way to have a lighter dinner to adjust my Cals for the day.

TheRealHousewife · 11/06/2021 19:12

Evening All

The sun is shining here, hope it is where you are!

Bloody well done @swampytiggaa … you look great too! 🌟🥇👏🏃‍♀️

@FearlessFairy fabulous progress! Congrats on busting another stone threshold! 👏👍🥇🌟

@SunshineCake Virtual hug ❤️ I’m pleased to hear you’ve had contact with dd! Enjoy your chocolate. Pure delicious bliss 🍫

@MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat another great result to read, well done! 👏👍🌟🥇

@Graphista I like your logic; no crisps = stone loss 😬. 👍

I’m looking 7 months pregnant at the moment. Med and movement induced. I know that sounds weird but whenever I up movement I get a massive swell belly. Inflammation and ascites. Not letting it get me down as I know it isn’t food induced. Plus whenever I take meds that also causes inflammation and other stuff.

Sorry if I’ve missed anyone, im rushing as only just got in and need to go prepare food.

Anyways wishing you all a great weekend.

Graphista I had thought of altering. I'm not literate with a sewing machine but my sister is!

Graphista · 11/06/2021 23:26

Crisps and cheese are absolutely my downfall. I genuinely felt anxious when I realised I'd forgotten to order any! Which is ridiculous I know!

I look pregnant too! All my weight is boobs and belly! That's always where I've carried it.

@Puffalicious I don't do sewing machines but I've made many alterations over the years to mine and dds clothes.

Her peers/friends were amazed that eg I wouldn't throw out a pair of jeans of hers just cos they got too short (she has the opposite problem to us on thread she has trouble maintaining a healthy weight and tends to the underweight due to her disability) and I'd turn them into shorts or a skirt. Take sleeves off a top she'd spilled and stained the torso area and put them on a different top, take the overlay off another top to lay on the bottom of another to lengthen it...

It was needs must as not much spare money when she was younger. When I first split from her dad you had to claim csa if on benefits (which I was even when working) and it was deducted from benefits even if ex failed to pay so at that point I was skipping meals to feed/clothe/raise dd.

BrioLover · 11/06/2021 23:39

@Graphista and @SunshineCake I am Belgian, lived there and in the Netherlands but have been in the UK for most of my life.

Frites/frieten, always mayo or frietsaus (like a pinky mayo with gherkins), karnemelk (like a soured thick buttermilk), poffertjes (tiny donut like things), hagelslag (chocolate sprinkles) on sandwiches... all the food of my youth. All that cycling keeps them slim I guess!

SunshineCake · 12/06/2021 07:38

@Graphista have you been tested for food intolerances? My kids actually asked me if I was pregnant as I really looked it. Had tests and I was intolerant to almost thirty things. Once I stopped eating them I lost 1.5 stone really quickly.

I never had the gherkin sauce or mini doughnuts @BrioLover but did nearly get run over outside WHSmith's as I forgot the traffic went the other way and had my purse nicked while in Smith's!

Ionacat · 12/06/2021 09:05

Morning all. I’ve had a rubbish week with back pain and gained 2lbs to 12st 4 but I went to the physio yesterday who has partly sorted my back out - it had more knots than a piece of macrame apparently. I’ve got exercises to do but it is feeling better. No running for 10 days though. But I’m back in it again this morning and remembering I’m in it for the long haul!

Puffalicious · 12/06/2021 10:45

You sound super practical Graphista well done you. Most of my things would need taking in so I'll perhaps draft in the sister!

Sunshine where did you get tested out of interest?

Ionacat sorry to hear about your back. This is just a blip, 2lbs us nothing, you've got this.
