Hello & Welcome 😊 WOW 😯 June already! What a start to meteorological Summer; stunning weather and easing of Lockdown.

Firstly a massive Thank You to @SunshineCake who has done a stellar job in taking charge of May’s thread 🙏🌟❤️. I was happy for sunshine to carry on but she kindly invited me back to start the new month, so we agreed to make it a joint effort. (I’m still battling ill health and will post when I can).

This thread is for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The members of these threads are inspirational, supportive and happy to share their progress (the ups and the downs).

We all know that if we eat right, get outside & move more your mental health will heap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with light weighs.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

Jump right in! If you’re not too shy, post a bit about yourself 😊. How do you plan to do it? What do you want to achieve? What excites you about your future self? Together, we can create a whole new you!

You’ll be glad you got on board this time next month 😊

Morning! My knee still isn’t right so instead of a run I did a 7 mile hilly walk as preparation for my hilly half marathon 😊 it was very warm 😅

Still keeping out of the biscuit tin! Need to keep away from chocolate too tho

SunshineCake · 12/06/2021 14:59

Hi @Puffalicious I saw two different women, privately, and it was two completely different types of tests. Dh was very cynical about the first one but believed the second more.

Sorry about your back @Ionacat. Hope you feel better very soon and the 2lb will be gone soon.

Full marks @swampytiggaa.

I'm pleased to report I ran today and was fine. I'm going to wear my first pair of trainers until the blister has gone then try my newer pair again to see what happened. 10km ran today.

swampytiggaa · 12/06/2021 15:21

Well done on the run @SunshineCake! I’m currently eating crisps 😬 still at least it isn’t biscuits or chocolate 😭😭 nasty feeling my IT band is the issue so I’ll stick to walking for a bit. Determined to do this half tho if Boris allows it…

SunshineCake · 12/06/2021 15:29

I've just had crisps too @swampytiggaa and am debating whether to have some wine tonight. I want some to stop me thinking but then it sometimes makes me sad or say stuff I shouldn't so I'll decide later.

swampytiggaa · 12/06/2021 15:35

I am working my way through a large bag of kettle crisps. No danger of alcohol for me as I need to get up at 3am tomorrow for work 😴

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 12/06/2021 16:14

Been and had about 8 inches of my hair chopped off today which was nice, really needed doing.

Then I've spent about an hour doing vigorous gardening to earn enough spare calories for burgers for dinner.

SunshineCake · 12/06/2021 16:16

That's cheating @HalfShrunkMoreToGo. You'll have lost another half stone!! Enjoy your burgers. Sounds delicious. No clue what we are having.

TheRealHousewife · 12/06/2021 16:22

Afternoon All

Lovely here again. Actually it’s too hot to sit out in so I’m under a parasol. Lightweight that I am 😬

We sound like twins @Graphista … boobs & belly 😆 I’d be half my weight without those body parts!

@Ionacat good your seeing someone about your back … pain sucks! Don’t fret the gain, a good poop will see it gone 😳😬

@swampytiggaa well done on the walk and swerving the biscuit barrel! 👍 That’s an early start … what do you do (don’t feel you have to answer if you’re a private person).

@SunshineCake (I’m assuming it’s sunny where you are) well done on running in this heat 🥵👍👏🌟It’s taking me all my energy to go to fridge for a cold drink.

I will be having a gin & tonic tomorrow as we are going out for lunch with some friends who we haven’t seen for over a year. I will be only having the one though.

Enjoy your Saturday Night whatever you’re doing. Now the Euros have started I’m sure oh with find some footy to watch ⚽️.

@TheRealHousewife I work in a supermarket picking home delivery orders 😊 I was taken on at the start of the pandemic because I couldn’t deal with being furloughed and stuck at home with the kids 😂😂 I’ve since given up my original job and just do this one.

TheRealHousewife · 12/06/2021 17:07

@swampytiggaa you hero you 🦸‍♀️. As clinically vulnerable ive relied on key workers ! Thank you for all that you do 🙏👏🌟. I for one very much appreciate you! When I online shop I regularly buy 2 extras such as fancy chocolates or fancy biscuits and note it that it’s for the picker and delivery persons ❤️

Ive just been reading an interesting piece in the Times about the validity of calorie values for foods. It is something I’ve often thought about myself as at times I’ve been on as a low as 800 (Fast800) yet relatively not lost a shed load, did lose but proportionately not as much as you’d think.

The Piece was by Giles Yeo, who is a Cambridge University geneticist. He has been researching obesity for over 20 years. In a nutshell he states it’s not calories that matter, but how our bodies absorb them. I’ve attached some screen shots for those of you interested. I think I might get one of his books to explore further.

I already have at least one day a week veggie but I think I go to 2 or 3 and see how I go.

Celery totally shocked me calorie wise as it went from single figures (6) for raw and turned to double figures cooked (30) … for 1 stick.

Thank you! I work for Morrison’s who have started with home delivery quite late in the day. Pre pandemic I think there were less than 50 stores offering home delivery and click and collect… by April last year most stores were offering it! We definitely got thrown in at the deep end.

It was temporary in response to Covid initially and I just wanted to do something to help out. Husband works full time nights filling at Tesco so we were both technically at risk however we live in the south west which fortunately never really got the first wave as such. Just waiting to see what happens with the holidaymakers coming down… didn’t get much of a spike last summer and the vaccination uptake seems to have been good here too. We’ve been very fortunate on the whole

SunshineCake · 12/06/2021 17:59

I used to work for Morrison's after I left school!

I've just tried on everything in my wardrobe. Yesterday dh said I looked frumpy and then two others said I looked nice. I think they didn't care about my size and liked the colours whereas dh could see the jumper was three sizes too big. So, as I said I tried everything on and there is now a metre plus tall pile of clothes that are too big. Too good to go in the charity bag but I've finally come around to no point keeping them as they don't fit. I even got rid of a pair of jeans dh bought me when dd was one and I haven't worn in years as they don't fit. They had sequins and beads all over them and after throwing out my best ever glittery jeans I kept these to not make the same mistake twice but I have conceded to dh.

It has been lovely here today @TheRealHousewife but I ran at about 8am before it got too hot. We've been pottering in the garden with my dog as she's not allowed out on walks until she's better. Hope you are okay.

SunshineCake · 12/06/2021 18:00

I'll read those later @TheRealHousewife when my brain is less tired but I have read a lot that food in its natural and raw state is better for us than cooked.

Graphista · 12/06/2021 19:40

@BrioLover oh I do miss the food from overseas! You're making my mouth water!

@SunshineCake no I've never been tested for intolerances. Can barely get tests for nutrient deficiencies!

I'm sceptical about the ones performed by unregulated practitioners, eg a nutritionist (unregulated anyone can claim to be one in Uk) v a dietitian (prescribed training route and assessments and a regulated profession in the Uk). I've been disappointed to have even gp surgeries lose a dietitian and hire a nutritionist in their place. Unprofessional and inappropriate in my opinion.

@Ionacat disappointing to have a gain but don't let it put you off track. You're still a damn sight slimmer than me!

@Puffalicious practicality borne out of necessity! But also fortunate to have had practical parents who took the time to teach us skills

You buggers! The crisps! All the crisps you're eating and I've none in

@TheRealHousewife yea I've always been "chesty" which is a pain - figuratively and literally. Getting bras to fit is a nightmare and at this point I don't even bother I just wear vest or crop tops. I'm veggie for 30+ years - still fat!

@swampytiggaa being housebound I rely on my Tesco deliveries so you're definitely a hero in my eyes

swampytiggaa · 12/06/2021 20:30

Thank you for your kind words 😊 I never thought it would be a long term job just something to help out in a crisis. Have to say it’s probably the best job I have ever had and I work with the loveliest people 💕

Confession time… I get my shopping delivered from Tesco each week 😂😂 I have had a delivery pass for years and I get discount from there too…

Second confession… I hate shopping and I’m not a morning person 😂😂 honestly this job would be the last thing anyone who knows me would pick for me but I absolutely love it 😊

swampytiggaa · 12/06/2021 20:32

Have to admit I feel a bit queasy after the crisps making it easier to resist the chocolate next to me…

Graphista · 12/06/2021 21:49

@swampytiggaa doing something as a job isn't the same as doing it as a chore though is it? I've had many jobs that have surprised people due to their being mainly filled with tasks I hate but I was fine doing them as a job.

I didn't like to say before but...I'm
not a fan of Morrisons. They're pretty crap for vegetarians (they didn't even start stocking quorn properly until 2010's!) and whenever I've had fresh fruit or veg from them it goes off really quick! And that's not been one branch/area that's been across several branches in 2 countries in the Uk

When all the lockdown stuff kicked off last year I was badly let down by who I had been using for several years prior - Sainsburys. They panicked basically! Their immediate response to the crisis was to shut down the app, the website and the phone lines! I had 2 deliveries pending, the 1st simply didn't appear and the 2nd was cancelled the day before and quite honestly if it hadn't been for the wise and practical advice from mn Brexit preppers I'd have been completely stuffed! I had been with Asda and Tesco in the past but left them due to billing and substitution issues. I had no choice but to try other supermarkets. Morrison's was the 1st I tried and unfortunately again the fruit and veg wasn't great and the driver griped and moaned about the weight of the delivery (only me here so how the hell he coped with a delivery for a family of 4 I don't know) and pretty much threw the bags into my hallway damaging several items and causing a mess. I then tried Asda who were ok but still a few sub issues and then Tesco who I've mostly had a good experience with and I now have a delivery pass too (way of using Clubcard points up to be honest).

After a few months I was bombarded with emails from Sainsburys with various offers and deals to try and tempt me back. I'd had a number of conversations with customer services and emailed them regarding how they'd behaved at start of lockdown and I'd never even had a genuine apology (non apology crap "we're sorry you feel that way but...") so they could get lost frankly!

SunshineCake · 13/06/2021 10:46

Morning all

Hope you are all well.

I have forgone running today as it is my youngest child's birthday and I didn't want him to have to wait for me to have his presents. We are having a picnic lunch at my in-laws for him and a takeaway dinner. I put my favourite skirt in and dh said it's too big....I worked out I have had it for ten years so it was a good buy but I am gutted as I really love it. A friend is having my dress that I love but is too big so at least it will get wear and dh is happy I've finally accepted I need to get new clothes. I'll wait a while though as I'm going for a new weight loss target. I've ordered another pair of running long shorts though and thankfully my foot feels okay.

Have a good day everyone.

swampytiggaa · 13/06/2021 12:55

@Graphista sorry you had a less than positive experience with Morrisons 😕 in our defence if it was a new delivery store we started from scratch with all new staff team leaders managers and drivers and had about 3 weeks to become operational whereas in normal times experienced people come in and set up.

Early days there was a big turnover of staff especially drivers because it’s really hard work. Plus the rest of the instore staff didn’t like us being there because it meant their working practices had to change. For example. We used to start at 6am. Produce department started filling from 8am. So all we had to pick from was what was left over from the day before. Produce now start at 4 or 5am. Bakery have had to come in earlier. Lots of teething issues over staffing.

Mind you it may just have been a grumpy bastard delivering to you 😂😂

Puffalicious · 13/06/2021 14:35

Gorgeous day everyone! Am out watching DS1 and DS2 in their rugby matches. It's a fabulous, family atmosphere at rugby and means I can also catch a few rays!

Super excited for tomorrow as Scotland play their first match. I'm looking forward to putting on a Scotland top and my short kilt and NOT feeling self conscious. All the schools- including mine- are making a big deal of it with kids wearing colours/ tartan and watching it on the big screen. My DH has all his vintage strips out and we're all choosing! So lovely that I know it'll all fit!

SunshineCake · 13/06/2021 16:37

Sounds great fun@Puffalicious!

I used to work the bread aisle in Morrison's and had to get in very early. I worked on loads of departments so feel I could do anything in a shop now Grin.

swampytiggaa · 13/06/2021 17:45

Just dropped the girlchild at college for 🤞 the last time and accidentally acquired a couple of whoppers when we stopped for the loo on the way home 😬 bloody lovely it was!

Just trying to do a meal plan for the week. Shopping being delivered in the morning and my basket is empty bar the holding booze 😂😂

Graphista · 13/06/2021 18:30

@SunshineCake have a lovely day celebrating

@swampytiggaa yea I don't generally mind the odd grumpy driver and understood there was change happening to be honest it was mainly yet again the produce not lasting long. Because that was something I'd noticed many times shopping instore too and as I can only really manage one delivery a week that was no good to me. I just prefer Tesco I guess. Few subs, good drivers and the produce lasts - I've got bananas and grapes delivered 2 Fridays ago that are still going strong, apples last AGES whereas with Morrison's even oranges were off within a few days!

@Puffalicious I'm not really a sports person. Ex was rugby nut, some of family footy fans but that can be tense (the whole Celtic v rangers crap) but I must admit I'll probably check the score on occasion tomorrow and my Facebook will be full of posts on it

Hope you all have great fun!

I used to work in a deli many moons ago - reckon I could still work a slicer!
