Hello & Welcome 😊 WOW 😯 June already! What a start to meteorological Summer; stunning weather and easing of Lockdown.

Firstly a massive Thank You to @SunshineCake who has done a stellar job in taking charge of May’s thread 🙏🌟❤️. I was happy for sunshine to carry on but she kindly invited me back to start the new month, so we agreed to make it a joint effort. (I’m still battling ill health and will post when I can).

This thread is for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The members of these threads are inspirational, supportive and happy to share their progress (the ups and the downs).

We all know that if we eat right, get outside & move more your mental health will heap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with light weighs.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

Jump right in! If you’re not too shy, post a bit about yourself 😊. How do you plan to do it? What do you want to achieve? What excites you about your future self? Together, we can create a whole new you!

You’ll be glad you got on board this time next month 😊

My friend has had success with elastic laces so they move as her feet swell 😊

There are all sorts of ways of lacing trainers if you google… I tend to be ok with just normal but I know lots need to adjust them

swampytiggaa · 09/06/2021 20:46

It’s a relatively easy fix as well 😊 good luck!

SunshineCake · 09/06/2021 20:58

Do the laces have a name or do I just search elastic laces please ?

Thank you.

Graphista · 09/06/2021 21:11

Stir fry sauce - turns out Tesco ones are a lot less cals anyway than even the supposed "less sugar" of branded ones - as much as double cals in the "less sugar" so I'm sticking to Tesco

Split a pack of rice and had one portion and store the 2nd in the fridge in zip lock bag as advised and can confirm this works just fine

Pasta - thinking to try a change to quick cook dried pasta, have ordered for this weeks delivery will let you know how this works for me

Pasta sauce - made my own a double portion and stored leftovers in a jar in the fridge. I keep jars as useful for various things anyway.

Crisps - I tried the lentil curls, they're ok but a bit bland, think I'll stick to frazzles and twiglets - I need the salty/umami hit or I end up eating 2 packs

Carrot sticks - got a pack of batons this week which I enjoyed with a 3 pack of reduced fat houmous over a few eves, having celery this week. I'm trying to avoid my usual habit of ordering the same things every week and getting bored and my taste buds getting "immune" too

Cheese - I've a glut of higher fat cheese to get through first, I'll try and have that in moderation and when I run out I'll buy in low/reduced fat versions

@SunshineCake honestly at one point I thought dd and I would ever speak again, but she came around. It's a really difficult point as a parent.

More than one day of emotional eating as it's been a tough week for a number of reasons with which I shan't bore anyone. Haven't been tracking but have been trying to at least most of the time make sensible choices (biscuits found me though!). Not expecting a loss this week but hopefully no gain.

Weighing myself tomorrow as that is easiest day for me as I do a certain chore tomorrow. Will then weigh myself same day each week.

Envious of those of you able to run, I used to run before my accident and I really enjoyed it, not just the physical side but I found it calming too. I miss it Sad

Puffalicious · 09/06/2021 22:21

Sunshine cake yeah!!!!👏👏👏 you're amazing. I'm so, so, so chuffed for you. I'm a stone behind you and determined to get there at some point 🐢

SunshineCake · 09/06/2021 22:49

Would the lentil curls be more interesting if you had a sauce or dip to have with them @Graphista?

DD is so stubborn. I'm hating this situation. Hating I've no idea what is going on and the fact dh is only giving her a fiver a week instead of proper money. He says we have to take a hard line and wait for her to text. I still send messages. They stay as unread.

Thank you @Puffalicious Smile. I'm still joint founder member of the 🐢club and I have no doubt you will get there. Only downside is clothes. Dh keeps telling me my clothes don't fit if they are too big but I'm thinking I can still wear them and it is frustrating when some were new last summer.

Puffalicious · 10/06/2021 00:11

Oh I get you on the clothes front, Sunshine. I'm delighted lots of my favourite things fit again (had a particularly favourite summer top on today for work with my absolute favourite trousers- both didn't fit last summer or, perhaps, the one before!) but as someone who loves clothes I did buy new things bigger sized and I'm mad that they no longer fit. Like you, there's a good, few things only bought last summer to make me feel better about the weight gain that are lovely but far, far too big now.

TheRealHousewife · 10/06/2021 06:07

Good Morning Ladies

You’re welcome @SunshineCake 😊. You do the same for me. Chocolate lunches are great. In the none too distant past I have had a Birthday Cake 🎂 lunch, a Hagen Daz lunch and a chocolate evening meal. :) Doing this occasionally I see as damage limitation. If you don’t satisfy your craving you’d only end up scoffing it after regular food anyway (at some point). This way is in a controlled way and you can savour and enjoy every mouthful. Feel no guilt. Anyways chocolate 🍫 has fibre and flavonoids which are v good for you 😬. In my dietary world no foods are banned, it’s about mindful moderation. Sorry to hear about dd.

@Graphista sorry to read you’ve been unsettled. Life sucks at times, really sucks. If you want to pm I’m a good listener. I’m the same as you as I was a runner/cyclist/weights type of person. People who see me now (if the haven’t for a while) are shocked at how I present and more than once people have blurted out ‘what on earth happened’ or ‘god, you’ve changed’. Since my SCI I can’t do much physical activity unfortunately unless you count my baby 500g hand weights. It’s tough as I also used exercise for my endorphin rush. I loved to feel strong and healthy. I do miss it.

@Puffalicious you’ll do it! Just keep following @sunshinecake 😬

@swampytiggaa that sounds sensible and there will be many other events you’ll be able to join but your dd will only have one 16th. She’ll appreciate it, I’m sure.

@MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat How it’s left you is similar to me. I had a crushed spinal cord and they put 2 plates and 8 screws in my cervical spine. (The compression left a scar on my cord) Without the op I’d have been paralysed from neck down. I’m thankful every day I’m not but it’s still difficult living with the residual limitations. That’s just on aspect of my health. I have other stuff going on too but I do my best every single day. Yes I agree living with the painful symptoms can be difficult.

Anyways peeps, have a good one today. I’ve read the sun has his hat on again.

Morning all and thanks again @TheRealHousewife.

Come on @Puffalicious. Follow me 🐢🐢🐢🐢😁Blush.

I've messaged dd asking her to call or check in today. I dreamt she came home unexpectedly.

I feel low today. I'm going to go running in a bit. Had a hard chat with dh yesterday and while it went okay something has changed in me and I need space to see if I can just ride it out while wondering if it will stay the same.

In happier news, ds1 is coming home today ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

SunshineCake · 10/06/2021 06:18

Sorry @Puffalicious. That looks like a grimace face, I tried to do a grin.

swampytiggaa · 10/06/2021 07:13

@SunshineCake these are the sort of thing I meant. Not tried them myself but my friend found them helpful.

Sorry things are difficult with your daughter still 😢 hopefully your run will clear your head a bit.

swampytiggaa · 10/06/2021 09:00

Thursday is my weigh in day.

Today I have lots 0.5lb from last week. Also half an inch from my waist 👍 and I’m back under 10st which makes me happy.

I’ve really upped my water drinking so hopefully that will have an effect soon as well as making me feel better 😊

TheRealHousewife · 10/06/2021 09:52

That’s fabulous @swampytiggaa … I bet you’re doing a happy dance 💃 Well done on breaking another threshold 🌟👏🥇

swampytiggaa · 10/06/2021 09:53

Tbh I keep hovering just under and just over so I think I need to work towards staying under comfortably.

Thank you @TheRealHousewife 💐

SunshineCake · 10/06/2021 10:53

Thank you @swampytiggaa. DH is measuring my trainer laces now ready to order me some. My foot did hurt today while running so I ran with my foot more on the side to take pressure off my foot where the blister was. I may take tomorrow off as I did just over 13km today.

Well done on your weight and inch loss. It's such a good idea to measure as well as weigh. Staying under comfortably will be a great achievement.

DD said that BMI wasn't a great system so if she is right I've no clue what my right weight would be. She said just go by how I feel. I'm about a pound heavier than when I met dh in January 1996 Shock.

Getting there.

swampytiggaa · 10/06/2021 11:01

Tbh @SunshineCake I just want to fit in my jeans comfortably 😂😂 I picked up 3 pairs of Levi skinny jeans brand new in a charity shop for £5 each. Should have been £100+ so no way am I growing out of those!

BrioLover · 10/06/2021 11:20

After eating my breakfast this morning I feel like I should make a PSA: high protein low sugar yoghurt! Found some on Tesco by Lindahls, Arla, and Biotiful as well as the skyr type yoghurts. Very tasty and filling.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 10/06/2021 12:17

@BrioLover the flavoured quark is really nice tool, Nestle do one and Graham's brand, they're in most supermarkets I think. Slightly less calories than the high protein yoghurts and a bit more protein

BrioLover · 10/06/2021 12:59

@HalfShrunkMoreToGo thank you! Will take a look at those Smile

Puffalicious · 10/06/2021 16:46

Hey everyone.

Weigh in day and I've stayed the same for the 2nd week in a row. But I've not been completely focused as so much house stuff (loft conversion) I've had little time to exercise. I'm largely sticking to my calories, so it'll come off eventually.🐢🐢🐢. I count it as a win as I've not gained.

SunshineCake · 10/06/2021 16:57

Definitely a win @Puffalicious. 🐢🐢I had three weeks with no loss and then had a decent one and that has happened more than once. I'm having chocolate tonight and will have to just see how I go as I can't run for a few days now I have a damn painful blister on my foot Sad.

swampytiggaa · 10/06/2021 17:25

Staying the same is good @Puffalicious 😊 it’s what I keep doing 😂😂

@SunshineCake ouch to the blister 😢 they are horrid aren’t they? When it’s healed it might be worth padding the area because I find I’m prone to getting them in the same place iyswim. I get recurring corns on the little toe of my right foot which is lovely… I’ve stopped getting my nails done and spend the cash on my feet instead 😂😂

Puffalicious · 10/06/2021 17:30

Poor 🦶 Sunshine treat it to a bowl of lovely, warm water and a day off running!

SunshineCake · 10/06/2021 19:00

If only I was talking to dh he would make me a foot spa Sad.

Puffalicious · 10/06/2021 19:11

Sunshine perhaps if you make the foot spa he'll feel guilty and offer a foot rub afterwards?
