5 stone to go

Droppingdown · 03/03/2021 15:05

It’s time I tackled the excess weight and got back to where I’m happy! I have set my initial goal at 12st, which is half a stone under the top healthy BMI for myself at 5”10 and will adjust accordingly once I’m there until I get to where I am happy
CW:17st 1.5lb
GW:12st
5st 1.5lb to go!

I’ve always been active, but the last year with a baby, toddler and working from home instead meant I wasn’t walking as much as I’d usually do, and my pre baby 4-5 gym classes a week haven’t been on since March. My youngest is no longer breastfeeding so it’s time I got myself back to a figure I feel happier with, and healthier to boot!
No set diet, just a case of 10,000 + steps a day, les mills on demand classes and spinning from home and stopping snacks, counting calories and plodding through the pounds.
I am posting here to keep myself accountable but if anyone wishes to join me in slimming down along the way you are very welcome Smile

Not joining in but your current stats are eerily similar to what mine were so I couldn't help posting (Same height - I was 17st 7lb before I sorted myself out) and I'm now 11st 12lb).

Good luck, and keep at it. And you're right to review once you hit the first goal and see what looks and feels best for you. My first goal was 12st 7 (just to get to BMI) which took me a long time to hit. Mostly because I stalled at 13, took my eye off the ball and went back to 15+ before attacking it again. I'm working towards 11st 7 now, which I think will be about right. Maybe a bit less, but I don't want to be skinny.

OhioOhioOhio · 03/03/2021 17:53

I'd like to join please. For the first time ever I'm trying to be sensible and not manic about this.

Droppingdown · 03/03/2021 19:11

@Spodge Thankyou, it’s nice to hear from someone who’s already done it! Congratulations on reaching your initial goal, I hope to be in your position or close too by Christmas.

@OhioOhioOhio glad to have the company, I usually opt for the less sensible options and consequently gain it all back during pregnancy, so definitely after less manic, sensible plan too. Good luck!

Yeah congratulations to anyone whose lost so much as a pound.

buckeejit · 03/03/2021 19:44

Let me in please! My current weight is same as yours @Droppingdown - well just 2lb less at Monday's weigh in.

That's with losing 21lb since the start of the year. I'm in a bit of a slump atm-bored with all the effort of healthy eating & disappointed with no big losses in past few weeks. Also struggle at weekends to enjoy myself without indulging in food & drink. Have been alcohol free jan & Feb & really looking forward to breaking it this weekend, while hoping it doesn't hamper weight loss too much.

I'd like to be less bothered about the scales results but starting to obsess a little and it gets me frustrated. I have a spreadsheet logging losses & goals which is good to see. 6.5lb to lose to my first goal. Can't think long term - would be beyond delighted if I ever got to a BMI of anywhere near 25.

I've been logging food on mfp & usually under 1300 cals. Also doing at least 10k steps a day but think I need to start real exerciseHmm

I still have a fibre one peanut popcorn bar with my morning tea & a chocolate biscuit with my afternoon tea. Otherwise healthy food. Wondering if I should get on some sort of more official plan. Have been successful in the past with SW but can't really be bothered & always felt that I was trying to cheat the system! Don't know if I could cope with the fast800

buckeejit · 03/03/2021 19:47

Sorry for my rambling. I was keen to not be manic about losing amounts but it's annoying that it was going well & seems to have really slowed even though I'm generally behaving!

Aria2015 · 03/03/2021 20:25

I'll join! I'm 16 stone 10 pounds and 5.9”. I had a baby 5 months ago and I am breastfeeding. I lost 7 pounds in January pretty easily but then stalled all through February. My goal at the moment is to be 12stone 7lbs as I was a size 12 at that weight and looked slim. My initial goal though - just to seem less daunting, is 14 stone as that's where my bmi tips from obese to overweight. I'm aiming to lose 8ish pounds a month. I've found with breastfeeding I can lose 2 lbs a week fairly easily if I cut down to around 1800 kcals a day. I also have a treadmill that's new that I need to get into the habit of using.

I don't really like to exercise before bed because I find it hard to sleep and have been using the excuse that my baby takes shorts naps as a reason not to use it, but my baby has just started to be more predictable with naps so I need to stop making excuses and get racking up those steps!

buckeejit · 04/03/2021 23:21

How are we doing?

I haven't weighed myself today & am less gloomy for it. It's a win! I'm scared of extra disappointment come Monday if I don't peek & haven't lost anything but I don't want to be obsessed with scales.

Lot of work to do at the weekend so will hopefully help avoid snacking!

OhioOhioOhio · 05/03/2021 06:53

I've stopped drinking. I'm not sure for how long but will treat myself to something delicious as an alternative weekend luxury. Not sure what yet though.

Droppingdown · 06/03/2021 13:45

Hello all! Sorry it’s been a busy few days here unexpectedly, hope everyone has something nice to look forward too over the weekend.

I’m also terrible for daily weighing @buckeejit. I can’t help myself! I’m going on a Mondays weight though, so will take that as my “fixed” weight as I know it fluctuates.
@Aria2015 the smaller goals seem a good plan-I’m just focusing on a stone at a time. It’s really hard to get into exercising when all you want is sleep! My youngest is still a sod for sleeping and it makes it hard to be bothered

@OhioOhioOhio I took the drink last night after 2 months sober & feel rough this morning! I found having a slimline tonic with ice & lemon or grapefruit etc was a real treat on a Sat eve. Wine tasted really odd at first after 2 months sober. I could really taste the sugar in a dry wine!

@Droppingdown I'd say focus on half stones as stones is too much. I lost a stone in Jan & it's really slowed since so it's long between mini goals. I had a drunk sneaky peek at the scales last night & it raged me! Will try to stick to Monday morning official time & deal with my disappointment then!

Imkindreally · 07/03/2021 10:50

Can I join please! Haven’t weighed myself yet < Fridays will be my weigh day> but I know I’m around the 17st mark. I lost 23lb last year - regained 8lb of it - and now just stalled.

buckeejit · 07/03/2021 21:04

Hi @Imkindreally - you've done great so far. I lost 1.5 stone last year & regained 2 stone! I'm so disappointed in myself but since Jan but lost over 1.5 stone & really think that my bmi being under 35 is main goal & then take it from there. Hoping for an optimistic 2lb loss tomorrow & try to have a good week.

I made a lovely tea of roast chicken, Persian rice & garlic veg with roasted cauliflower & a spiced lemon yogurt sauce. Will be having it again!

Rallyaround · 07/03/2021 22:50

I’ll join! At my biggest ive ever been.
I’m 16st 1lb. 5foot 6 inches so BMI of 36!
Would love to get down to 12st to start with but will take a stone at a time.
My husband just got diagnosed with a liver condition so we are both going to be losing weight and getting healthy together.
Normally I get obsessive with the scales and get disappointed with slow progress. So I’m aiming for a monthly weigh in and aiming for 5-7lbs a month!
Tracking on my fitness pal and getting my steps above 10K.
Eek!

Droppingdown · 08/03/2021 06:58

Welcome @Imkindreally & @Rallyaround.
It sounds like we all have a similar approach to this which is lovely.
Have weighed in this morning at 16st 13.2, so 3.5lb down on last Monday/2.3lb down on the listed starting weight which I’m happy with.

@buckeejit that dinner sounds fab!

Morning all!
I'm in a similar place. I've lost 2.5 stone, got 5 left. I'm aiming for 11.

I'm doing slimming world, and getting on ok with it. I have a reward every half stone or so.

I've found that bread is the thing I was overeating. On SW it's basically two thin slices a day or a small portion of cereal/nuts. That's much less than I was eating. Everything else is pretty much the same, I've always cooked from scratch with lots of veg.

Potatoes, pasta and rice don't seem to be the enemies I thought they were!

Imkindreally · 08/03/2021 07:42

Monday morning update - weighed in at 227lb which is less than I expected so that’s helped the motivation this morning Grin my first target is to get to 220lb because it’s a nice round number and half a stone will make a big difference to my jeans.

I’m going back to intermittent fasting / OMAD as that’s what works best for me

picklemewalnuts · 08/03/2021 08:50

We need a pinned conversion chart! I do kg generally, but count lost weight in lbs and stone because that's what my class does. I get confused sometimes though!

Does anyone have a mini target? I'm pausing halfway through, and maintaining for a while. I want my body to get used to life at a new weight, and to get used to what maintenance eating looks like. Then I'll do a push for the last lump! I'm 5kg off my pausing point- 15 stone. Slightly under a stone to go. Then another 4 stone after that to get to 11 stone/70kg.

Imkindreally · 08/03/2021 14:44

My mini goal is 7lb - about to go out for a gentle walk just to get moving

OhioOhioOhio · 08/03/2021 19:10

I like the idea of mini goals. I'm trying to take it one pound at a time.

Aria2015 · 08/03/2021 19:44

I'm just putting my youngest to bed and then I'm getting on my treadmill. No more excuses - I'm sure I'll feel happier for it once I'm done!

buckeejit · 08/03/2021 21:03

There's an amazing spreadsheet that someone did that I'm using-will try to find a link, it's very motivating & I love a spreadsheet!

Everyone doing great-I've 2lb off today but it's .8lb which I rounded down last time so I could count myself in the next stone bracket so rounding it up today as 1.5lb off!

@picklemewalnuts I've been successful on SW before & I think if you follow it, it's good. I was just sick of it. I've been logging calories on mfp but probably not eating enough fruit, although I've had more veg which is probably better. I need to downgrade my choc biscuit with afternoon tea & ration my weekend snacks before the evening starts.

Do you think it makes any difference having the same healthyish meal every day?

Aria2015 · 08/03/2021 21:47

Well, I did an hour on the treadmill. Mostly fastish paced walking but with bursts of running. Didn't hate it and it feels good now I've done it. Just have to dig deep to find the motivation to do it again! I'd like to try and do it most days, if not every day...

picklemewalnuts · 09/03/2021 07:43

Hmm, that link doesn't work for me, @buckeejit .

I'm a pound down today. It's very slow and steady at the moment. I have had a couple of wobbles this week though.

There's a lot to be said for the same healthy meal every day, if you save thinking power and still enjoy it! I very often have a jacket potato for lunch, with cheese and salad. Either that or left over dinner from the night before- that saves thinking, too!

My slimming world leader seems to have a pile of spring onions with every meal! Easy way to get speed food in. I've started to copy her!
