I'm so hungry I could cry

I'm losing weight (hurrah) but have given up breakfast. It's usually ok - I have an early lunch of home made veg and lentil soup at around 12.30 - but today I am so hungry I could cry. I'm fed up. I want to eat chocolate until it comes out of my ears. And follow it with cheese.

Give me your best distraction techniques for days like this.

A hardboiled egg is your friend at times like this.

zeddybrek · 29/01/2021 10:52

Mint tea!

Or drink 2 bug glasses of water.

FuzzyPuffling · 29/01/2021 10:52

But I hate eggs!!
I have had three prunes instead and feel bad enough about that!

Chewing gum?

My breakfast is a cup of coffee and 3 squares of chocolate (77 cals). This satisfies me most days and staves off sugar cravings the rest of the day. I never want to be on a diet that makes me miserable.

januhairyfebruhairy · 29/01/2021 10:57

Chewing gum will make you more hungry because it makes your stomach produce gastric juices ready for food, sometimes causing contractions or tummy rumbles. Perhaps a rice cake might fill you up?

FuzzyPuffling · 29/01/2021 10:58

I'm trying to visualise the scales on Sunday as motivation.

Oh sorry.

Distraction would be maybe go and do something, a bit of light gardening, do a garden birdwatchfor an hour, conduct Beethoven 5 with a chopstick, a spot of colouring?

linerforlife · 29/01/2021 11:02

Go and eat your lunch early!!

FlibbertyGiblets · 29/01/2021 11:05

Or do you fancy
A round or two of haiku
To distract your mind?

FuzzyPuffling · 29/01/2021 11:07

Ha ha...you're all brilliant!
(I prefer a limerick to a haiku - might think of one later)

When I was on a diet I found a hot drink helped me feel full

hopingforabrighterfuture2021 · 29/01/2021 11:15

Can I ask why you’ve given up breakfast?

ButterMeUpScotty · 29/01/2021 11:16

Can’t you eat your soup and stuff now? Eat when you are hungry, don’t when you’re not!

jellybeanz1212 · 29/01/2021 11:19

Black coffee
Go for a walk

JorisBonson · 29/01/2021 11:20

Rice cakes

Ruddyfedup · 29/01/2021 11:23

I drink if im hungry. Black coffee with honey or a diet fizzy drink. I usually keep a share bag of peanut m and ms in the cupboard so i eat one, feels like ive have a treat and i havent stuffed a whole chocolate bar instead. The bag normally lasts me 3-4 weeks. Even if i eat a couple throughout the day, it wont blow the calorie bank!

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 29/01/2021 11:29

If I'm hungry but want to wait a bit to have a substantial meal I go for a hot drink or something full of protein like a 25g bag of beef jerky or a few slices of chicken or a boiled egg. All well under 100 calories and do a good job of taking the edge off for an hour or so.

Thecatsbutler · 29/01/2021 11:31

Have you thought about Low Carb. I have a really high carb tolerance, so could consume huge amount of the stuff and never felt sated. Now though, eating low carb if I'm peckish I have cheese or nuts which are really filling.

EternalOptimist7 · 29/01/2021 11:31

I wouldn’t miss breakfast. It can still be a healthy meal & you don’t need to be so hungry when you’re trying to lose weight. When I have a protein based breakfast eg bacon & eggs, I last for much longer before my next meal & am not tempted to snack.

LH1987 · 29/01/2021 12:21

Diet Coke! Hope you enjoy your lunch 😀

FuzzyPuffling · 29/01/2021 12:24

I can go without breakfast and don't feel much hungrier than if I'd had toast. It's an easier win for me. I'm much hungrier in the evening which is when I have a sliver of cheese and some nuts. I don't eat red meat at all.

Anyway, I've been for a brisk walk ( very lucky to live in the country, so it's lanes and views round here...and I can see the sea) and it's soup time! Yay!

I second the black coffee. Also chewing gum.

Palavah · 29/01/2021 16:20

Full fat greek yoghurt (plain)

LadyCatStark · 29/01/2021 16:34

Are you due on your period? I am and I also want to eat alllll the chocolate! I also do no breakfast and no chocolate on weekdays so I’m focusing on it being the weekend tomorrow!
