I gave birth to my son at the end of October and, now the festive cheeseboard has been polished off, I'm feeling ready to fit back into my pre-pregnancy clothes!

Goal weight is 60kgs and current weight is 64.7kgs. However, as muscle weighs considerably more than fat I know realistically I have more than 4.7kgs to lose.

Plan is to stick to a 1,700 calorie a day diet as I am breastfeeding so don't want to end up with too few calories. I will also be going to the gym 3-4x per week - I am not in the UK so feel very fortunate to be able to do this.

Creating this thread for accountability (for me) and also to see if anyone is in a similar position.

I'll join you, my little girl was born in June, now 6 months pp and my weight has started going up. I was 69kg when i fell pregnant, now 74kg having hovered around 71. But i really want to by 60, although i haven't seen that in ten years.

No access to the gym, or swimming, but I do need to stop binging on sugar when we have a bad night (pretty much ever night at the moment)

I'm also breast feeding. Going to try shakes for breakfast and lunch (I need to try and train myself off grabbing biscuits and these reduce the sugar crash for me), plus snacks and a proper evening meal. It should be about 1700 calories a day.

Houseandhome · 01/01/2021 07:03

I’ll join, my second was born end of July. Initial goal weight would be 10 stone and then would like to get to 9. Really want to be 10 by the end of Feb.

Sairafina · 01/01/2021 12:38

Morning ladies,
Congratulations on your little ones and thanks for joining me! I've meal planned for the next three weeks so no excuses really. First measurements for the year as follows:
Waist 31ins
Arms 12ins
Hips 38ins
Thigh 20.5ins

Weight is 65kgs - I blame the massive burger and chips last night 😂

Meal plan for the day is
Protein shake with a banana and peanut butter
Dippy eggs with a bagel, asparagus and broccoli
Rice cake
Protein shake with a banana and 1/4 cup of oats
Chicken Salad with spinach, mushrooms, sweet potato, tomato, cucumber, green pepper, boiled egg and avocado
Rice cake

Let's see how this goes!

Lupinspotato · 01/01/2021 17:39

Congratulations on all the little ones!

I also want to join in. I gave birth in August and I also ideally want to get back down to 60kg but as I'm currently 76kg my first aim is to get down to 66kg. I was losing weight, but now it's started to creep back up.

From Monday, I'm going to try and stick to 1500 calories but the only exercise I can really comfortably do is walking as I still haven't fully recovered from PGP and my birth was difficult so high impact stuff is out. Anyone doing any exercise and can recommend anything low impact? (Also tier 4 so no gyms etc.)

gmailconfusion2 · 01/01/2021 22:32

I'll take measurements tomorrow, off to a bad start, my husband took me over to my parents (in a bubble for under one) as she's not been sleeping, so I could sleep. And being tired meant I hit all the biscuits, Christmas cake and chocolate. But I did have red lentil dhal for tea and a shake for breakfast. I'm just going to ignore the 12 hours in between and start tomorrow

gmailconfusion2 · 01/01/2021 22:34

@lupinspotato have a look at walk at home with Leslie sansome (think that's right) or I just walk miles with the buggy.

gmailconfusion2 · 02/01/2021 09:41

74.4kg
Thigh 25in
Hips 41
Natural waist 32 😢
Belly button 40.5 🤯

I've has a 26in waist since I can remember
On wagon, had shake and made up lunches shake despite having a bad night again. I think she's just forgotten how to sleep

Sairafina · 02/01/2021 15:00

@Lupinspotato would you be able to do some gentle yoga at home? Yoga with Adrienne on youtube is a really good resource and she has some easy beginner videos

@gmailconfusion2 a 26in waist feels like a lifetime ago! What sort of things are you putting in your shakes?

My 9 week old is sleeping at the moment which is definitely helping although who knows how long it'll last 😂

I didn't end up having my second protein shake, I wasn't hungry at all and I'm not going to force myself to eat. Did 30mins on the cross trainer at the gym and got in 10,000+ steps. Today I'll be having

Protein shake with a banana and peanut butter
Oats with honey
Chicken with rice, broccoli, and cauliflower
Almonds
Cheddar rice cake
Chicken stir fry with noodles, mushrooms, onion, green pepper, mange tout, baby corn and carrots

OP posts:
gmailconfusion2 · 02/01/2021 16:39

@sairafina I'm got a breakfast smoothie from the Protein Works in summer berry and I'm. Just adding fruit to that, and for lunch I've got a packet of their diet shake to drink for lunch which keeps me full.

I'm trying to find me a pram I like, went somewhere thay is open to appointments having explained what I wanted. That was a waste of 80miles, they had nothing suitable at all.

I've had a breakfast shake, a lunch shake two rice cakes with feta and sweetie drop peppers, and a piece of fish and morrocan couscous for tea in a few hours

Sairafina · 03/01/2021 13:35

What sort of calories are the shakes? I ended up adding my oats to the protein shake as didn't have time to make oatmeal - it's amazing where the day goes with a little one!

That's annoying about the pram, what sort of style are you looking for?

I had a good day yesterday, was able to get in a cardio and leg session at the gym and wasn't hungry at all as had three filling meals and loads of veg. Today the meal plan consists of:

Protein shake with a banana, peanut butter and oats
Omelette with avocado, tomato, green pepper and cheddar
Rice cake
Takeout sushi - one 8 piece centipede roll and edamame beans in soy/salt
Pepper sticks

I'm so happy I can fit sushi into my macros! DH and I like to get takeout on a Sunday evening as it round off the weekend nicely :)

OP posts:
gmailconfusion2 · 03/01/2021 15:37

The breakfast smoothie is 207 and the diet shake is 250 off the top on my head, and high protein so I don't snack as much.

I'm after something that can handle 30km plus a week of mainly off road walking. So was wanting to look at a mountain buggy, out n about nipper, that sort of thing, but I really need to make unsure the handles are in the right place as I have shoulder issues. Some of the telescopic handles stsrt too high and the click into place ones are now good if it's the wrong place.

Today I've had the two shakes, madam stole half my feta and sweetie pepper rice cake (managed to reclaim the peppers), an orange, an apple when I get back and tonight it's burger, chips and a mix of veg.

We're about to go on a walk to drop a parcel off and did an exercise video for 20min while she napped earlier.

Sairafina · 04/01/2021 16:30

Feeling pretty bleugh today. DS went back to sleep after the night feed but guess who didn't.... so have been up since 1.30am 😫 Usually lack of sleep has me reaching for the chocolate so must try and be strong today.
Meal plan consists of:
Protein shake with banana, oats and peanut butter
Chicken with rice, broccoli and cauliflower
Rice cake
Almonds
Fillet steak with vegetables

Writing a list of all the things I have to be grateful for today including a lovely meal out at a steak restaurant this evening.

OP posts:
gmailconfusion2 · 04/01/2021 16:39

@Sairafina it must have been a night for it, she got up at 3 and at 6am i gave up. We went for a walk to get her weighed (7.7kg @6 months), and jogged back as i needed a wee.

Today I've had the two shakes, two feta and sweetie pepper rice cakes, a hot chocolate as i was soaked and tonight im making chilli con carne meatballs and rice from olive magazine, and a few celebrations.

I think i'm going to try and weigh on mondays, so today is 73.7 (-0.7lbs down) No energy for measurements this morning

Lupinspotato · 04/01/2021 19:51

Today is the first day I'm doing this properly now. Managed to stick to 1500 calories, do 12k steps and 10 minutes restorative yoga. The yoga went OK so will keep trying to do little and often and see how it goes.

Weighed myself and I'm actually 77kg, I will weigh myself everyday but I will update here every Monday too for a bit of accountability!

Thanks for your recommendations for the exercise videos @Sairafina @gmailconfusion2 - I'll definitely do those walking ones when I need to make it up to my 10k steps. Hopefully you manage to get a decent chunk of sleep tonight, makes losing the weight so much harder when you're knackered!

gmailconfusion2 · 04/01/2021 21:46

I'm definitely a stress eater, boris's announcement, i head to the shop as we needed food and its far easier with out baby, and shove a chocolate bar into my mouth at the first opportunity. Husband is self employed as of 6 months ago, I'm on mat leave and don't earn enough to keep up afloat, and we aren't entitled to UC or anything else. Yay!

Lupinspotato · 05/01/2021 20:30

@gmailconfusion2 That does sound really stressful. It's hard enough looking after yourself with a baby, let alone in a pandemic with all the stress associated with that, which it sounds like you're under a lot. So it's OK if things slip sometimes food wise, just move on from it. Hope you're doing OK today.

Managed to do 10k steps today although had to make it up using one of those walking videos and I did manage to stick to 1500 calories.

gmailconfusion2 · 05/01/2021 21:01

Food wise, I grazed today, did pollock, boiled potato, parsnips, Brussels and carrot for tea, lentil dhal and lidl mini naan for lunch and a shake for breakfast, in between I ate everything I saw so tried to make cups of tea instead. Maybe sitting around 2000 calories, but I'm one of those people that needs 8.5-10 hours sleep a night and I got about 7, as baby woke at ten and decided it was play time. Finally got her down just after midnight, but she stayed down until 3 and 7, so that's better than every hour.

We didn't leave the house but I did a 45min walking video while she napped.

Lentil dhal tastes better a few days old, bit like stew really!

Sairafina · 06/01/2021 00:03

I was really saddened to hear of the new lockdown. Even though I'm not in the UK, all of my family still are and my heart goes out to you. How has day 1 been?

Last night was better for me sleep wise, I must have got about 6 1/2 hours total. DH is having him in the living room with him this evening so I'll get an early night and aim for at least 6 before they come to bed and then hopefully a few more hours after the 2am pump.

Food wise today I have had
Protein shake with banana, oats and peanut butter
Leftover steak on a bagel with spinach and tomato
Granola bar (was desperate whilst feeding and nothing else in reach!)
Pasta with vegetables in sauce

I've also been weighing myself every day but will just post weight and measurements here on a Friday as that's when I started!

OP posts:
gmailconfusion2 · 06/01/2021 21:16

How was everyones day?

I'm glad we're still allowed to go out for exercise, and the bubbles so I'm not completely isolated.

We didn't sleep again, it was about six hours, my husband gave up in the end and took her, apparently just stuck her in our bed, but now understands why I don't like co sleeping with him in the bed as his back hurts today. Think he'll be back on the sofa bed so everyone will sleep better.

Mine was better, I did do an hours walk/jog and stuck to calories. Shake for lunch and breakfast, with the addition of avocado chocolate moouse as I had a half that needed using up, tea started as bbc food penne arrebaita (I can't spell) with added spinach, olives and chicken and most of a custard cream, baby gummed the rest of it.

Sairafina · 07/01/2021 20:13

The week is whizzing by! I have been weighing myself every day and will post the Friday weight and measurements. It's the latter I'm more interested in as I've been going to the gym and doing lots of walking so pretty sure some of the fat lbs will have converted to muscle.

Sorry you are still having bad sleep, although 6 hours does seem pretty good! It's what I average most nights.

I had a croissant and an espresso earlier, delicious and I enjoyed every mouthful! The usual protein shake with banana/oats/peanut butter for lunch then I've made spag bol for dinner using minced turkey instead of beef and packed the sauce full of veggies.

OP posts:
gmailconfusion2 · 07/01/2021 20:47

I know I shouldn't complain about the sleep but until Christmas we averaged about 8.5 most nights!

I agree with the measurements, rather than weight, I'm tracking them as hopefully that'll keep me motivated when the scales pause.

Shakes as normal, satsuma, feta Rice cake, two hero's and a mcvitie white, chocolate brownie bar, with a frogmarch to the shops and back(5km) and 35min youtube video.

Tomorrow is going to be a test for me, really I should just not go, but I've got a Chiropractic appointment tomorrow so sister is looking after baby and I'm gonna stay for lunch to cheer my father up, but they have all this food we don't have in the house because I eat it and I need to not binge, which is what normally happens.

Sairafina · 08/01/2021 13:37

Well, here we go!

Weight 64.3kgs (down 0.7kgs)
Waist 30ins (down 1inch)
Arms 11.5ins (down 0.5inch)
Hips 37ins (down 1inch)
Thighs 20.5ins (same)

I'll take that!

DS has his vaccinations this morning so we have a quiet afternoon of feeding, cuddles and sleep planned. How was your will power over lunch?!

OP posts:
gmailconfusion2 · 08/01/2021 13:44

Well done!

I had a double Decker and a piece of tolberone, and a piece of vegetarian Wreath from lidl, so actually pretty well!

Lupinspotato · 09/01/2021 16:18

Well done Sairafina! I hope the vaccinations were ok too.

Had a couple of days where I went over 1500 by a couple of hundred cals. The scales have gone down everyday so far so should be ok.

Good point about taking measurements for if loss plateaus. I’ll take some on Monday and keep track once a week of those.

Sairafina · 10/01/2021 14:23

Thanks both! I'm quite enjoying weighing in on a Friday as it gives me a little license to loosen up at the weekend before cracking down on Monday. Yesterday I made a lovely Shepherd's Pie for dinner and had some dark chocolate afterwards - delicious!

Today I've managed to fit pizza into my macros so a naughty way to end the week but shouldn't go too far off course.

Hope you're both having a lovely weekend
