HELLO, WELCOME & HAPPY NEW YEAR! Actually that doesn’t read right with all the C19 malarkey. Strange & unprecedented times. Nonetheless, 2021 marks a fresh start and and an opportunity for renewal. This thread is for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The founding members of these threads are inspirational and supportive in equal measure. I’m sure @SunshineCake & @FatGirlShrinking won’t mind me holding them up as our Poster Girls. They both did absolutely fantastic in 2020! ⭐️👏🥇

They have both demonstrated that if we eat right, get outside, move more your mental health will heap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

Me personally? In the main it’s been a way of life for 3 years and I’ve lost over 40lbs. I had a bit of blip at the start of C19. After all my hard work I just started eating with impunity. Before I knew it I was10lbs up in a few short weeks! I needed to get back on it and COVID proof myself 😬 I calorie count, log via MFP app, Intermittent fast, eat-low carb Mediterranean style aka Fast800 Plan and try to stay well hydrated. In December I maintained; I’m hoping to see a loss this January which would see me firmly in the healthy BMI bracket.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with lite weighs.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

@Puffalicious

Thank you halfshrunk and auldfox I am thinking fuck it today!

Just off the phone to my mate in work and we had a right old moan/ bitch/ whinge and I feel transformed! DH has been a star- cooking and coralling children when he got in- so now chilled before the marking starts.

Soup now to counter the chocolate!

I totally build in “fuck it” days into my diet. It’s usually around the time I have PMS. I personally find no way of eating is sustainable long term, unless I have some “fuck it” days. As long as it doesn’t turn into “fuck it” weeks...
CescaNicole · 12/01/2021 21:26

You're not the only one reaching for the chocolate @Puffalicious, I've eaten three bars today 😳
That not even the worst bit, we also had a mcdonald's lunch. Awful, awful behaviour!
It was an emotional binge eat, where I caved to the one chocolate bar initially, then my OH ordered the mcdonald's and my brain went fine, let's just go mad. Felt gross afterwards and it was absolutely not worth the calories!!!

It makes me sad that I can go for a period of time doing so well and then if I have an emotional or stressful day I can't seem to curb it and stay in control.

Onwards and upwards hey!
Must keep trying!

Weigh day in the morning, not sure i dare 😂

Puffalicious · 12/01/2021 22:23

Auldfox yup, the fuck it days are so necessary. Please don't let me have a fuck it week!

CescaNicole I hate when it's not worth the calories, but you're at/ near your target so no worries!

mimblefish · 12/01/2021 22:36

12 days in, I weighed in at 149.8lbs today so that was cheering even if it's just barely under 150 -- puts me into the 'healthy BMI' category. I'm sure I'll be up again tomorrow, but still!

TTCAbroad · 13/01/2021 07:02

@132orbust I'm 5'4.5". I know how you feel about looking at all the beautiful clothes sitting in the closet and just wanting them to fit nicely!

@HalfShrunkMoreToGo By day 4 I had dropped down to 3-4 hours a day. The last day I was standing knee deep in powder halfway down a black run and almost cried because I was so tired. Took a 2 hour 'coffee break' after that.

Had McDonalds for lunch yesterday because I was stressed out over general life-stuff. On the plus side I felt so gross I didn't end up eating dinner!

Day 2 of 31 days no drinking. I'm trying to approach it by thinking about how amazing I feel when I don't drink. It's honestly such a difference, especially in energy levels and general mood!

132orbust · 13/01/2021 07:49

Day 10
SW:151
CW:144.5
GW:132
I am really pleased with that as normally the first 4-5lbs come off easily for me but then it's a slog. 6.5lbs in 10 days is very cheering, now I just have to keep it going. I knew we were having DH's lovely chorizo risotto last night so I had a small lunch to compensate and it must have worked.
Taller than me as expected @TTCAbroad - sorry general life stuff is difficult at the moment but well done on the not drinking. I'm doing dry Jan and there is a lovely support thread on here too.
Onwards and inwards!

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 13/01/2021 07:52

Start of this weight loss journey was 233lb, BMI 35.4

30/12/2020 - 186lb, BMI 28.3
06/01/2021 - 185lb, BMI 28.1
13/01/2021 - 183lb, BMI 27.8

Loss this week - 2 lb
Loss this month - 3 lb
Total loss since starting - 50 lb

Foreverlexicon · 13/01/2021 08:35

Going relatively well here.
Feel like a slug; I’ve barely left the house for 2 weeks as a colleague who I had close contact with tested positive so had to isolate for the whole working week.

I ought to pick up the exercise again but with gyms closed I really can’t be bothered. I was good with running and exercise vids before I joined the gym but now I have the dog, I don’t fancy running as well as walking, and doing an exercise video with a 4 month puppy sounds like a disaster!

Food has been good though. Meals much healthier, a tad too much evening snacking but weaning myself off that.

Trisolaris · 13/01/2021 08:45

Hey everyone, got back on the scales after my December absence and it wasn’t too bad! 58.3kg which is only 0.4 up from my low of 57.9kg (SW was 64kg)

I’ve halted the running for now as it’s just too cold by the time I finish work but I’m making sure to get done good walks in and will get back on it as soon as it goes up a couple degrees!

Trisolaris · 13/01/2021 08:48

@HalfShrunkMoreToGo Congratulations on reaching 50lbs off! That’s amazing! You’ve done so well.

Trisolaris · 13/01/2021 08:52

Also - I feel all you lot reaching for the chocolate/having cheat days. I may have tried some Love Cocoa bars last night!

CescaNicole · 13/01/2021 10:00

Thanks @Puffalicious

Weigh Day +1 LB

SW: 12 st 1 lb (1st Oct 20)
CW: 10 st 8 lb
GW: 9 st 7 lb

It wouldn't be a journey without some ups and downs right?

Feeling a bit better after my pity party last night 🥳
I woke up and did a 10 min mobilitity stretch on fiit, albeit with a toddler hanging off of me. Still helped me to start a positive day and I'm gonna have a good week now 💪🏻

On a side note I've deleted all of my social media accounts after a lot of a debate in my mind. I think they really affect me mentally so decided to finally delete and see if I feel any better!

newyearnewme21 · 13/01/2021 10:19

Hello all, can I join!

Been lurking for a while but today I am knuckling down and need some accountability. I lose about 1.5 stone a couple of years ago by calorie counting and using MFP, but that was a long time ago so that plus lockdown means none of my clothes fit anymore!

I actually don't know what I weigh as I threw out my scales in a feng shui attack but I am collecting some from Argos this eve and will be weighing first thing in the morning so I can accurately calculate my TDEE! Last time I had to stick to 1200 cals a day to lose the weight, I have no idea if that's still the case so I need to weigh to find out.

At my heaviest I was 95kg, I got down to about 86kg, my goal would be 83kg if I could manage it (about 14 st 10lb, 13st 5lb and 13 st in old money!). I'm quite tall and not interested in being very slim, I just want my wobbly bits gone and not to have to struggle with my zips!

Will check in again once I have my actual weight- just hope I'm not too shocked by the number on the scale Shock

ivyjoynoelle · 13/01/2021 10:24

I know it's my weigh in day but I'm not doing it till next week. I'm due on and know it will be a couple pounds heavier due to that and it will dishearten me and make me want to give up and eat loads. Will continue trying to eat healthily and exercise and weigh in next week. Welcome to all the new comers and well done on everyone's losses.

Firstworlddilemma · 13/01/2021 11:11

2nd weigh in here

SW 15s 7lb
CW. 14s 13.5lb
TW 11s 2lb

A long way to go but feeling good so far. @HalfShrunkMoreToGo you are a real inspiration!

TheRealHousewife · 13/01/2021 11:25

Good Morning Everyone

Not 100% but a bit better than I was. Thank you for the good wishes.

January is turning into a really lively thread. Great to read everyone’s updates. I’ve not weighed this week as the meds I’m taking affect everything weight loss related (sleep, loo, water retention etc) I’ll settle for less pain at the moment. I’m sure my flare up will soon pass.

Take care and stay safe everyone.

Sneak peak today and I’ve dropped down into next stone bracket which was a nice boost. I’d like to lose another 13lb really but these are vanity pounds at this point. I’m in the normal BMI range and fitting in to my clothes well again though there is the odd thing which is still a little snug.

SkeletonSkins · 13/01/2021 17:26

Wow some fab losses here - @HalfShrunkMoreToGo 50lb is absolutely incredible.

@Firstworlddilemma wow hoping I manage similar at my second weigh in, that’s a fab loss from your starting weight.

I’ve given up sugar entirely and it’s the first time I’ve managed to avoid sweet stuff when I need comfort. I just don’t really want it anymore which is mad to me as I was a total chocoholic. Whether it’ll last, I don’t know, but having the motivation of doing it for my PCOS really helps.

I’m finding today hard. I’m not feeling well, went for a Covid test this morning and luckily it’s negative (we can have quick ones without specific covid symptoms where I live) but I still feel headachy and run down. I managed a very rainy dog walk but I’m on the sofa now feeling sorry for myself.

Was really pleased to weigh in yesterday - 4.5lb off in my first week and the main ‘win’ is that I’ve not been hungry. My worry now is whether this weight loss will continue, I can only hope. Had super healthy porridge this morning with oats, chia seeds, and flaxseed. Had it with berries and yoghurt and that kept me full most of the day. Had a protein smoothie before and some cheese, the smoothie was okay but I’m not really a fan of the taste of frozen raspberries. Need to find some other recipes!

Was planning chicken and cauliflower rice tonight but it’s just not that kind of day so fajitas it is 😂 Going to stick to one wrap and might try some courgette chips!

Puffalicious · 13/01/2021 18:22

Just tucked into a plate of Haggis (Veggie), tatties and neeps (Turnip if you're not Scottish and Swede if you're posh!). It was so delicious ill be dining out on the memory for days. Stuffed and just about still in my cals for the day. Result.

Highly recommend if you've not experienced it.

mimblefish · 13/01/2021 19:02

They make veggie haggis, @Puffalicious?? I must find some.

Weight today 149.3 lbs. Delighted with that -- I obviously won't continue to lose at this rate, but I'd be thrilled if I could blast past my "normal weight" of 147 lbs this time. I'd be happy (I think) at 140.

Puffalicious · 13/01/2021 19:22

mimblefish Simon Howie and MacSween's both do them. Delish!

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 13/01/2021 19:32

Thank you all, very pleased with myself today 😁

Was looking back and realised that I jumped in with you lovely lot back at the end of the Jan 2020 thread. Then of course covid and lockdown 1.0 happened, home schooling, crisps and Danish pastries took over my life and the small loss I had made went back on 🤣

So 1 year dieting with a 6 month break in the middle.

Amazing job @HalfShrunkMoreToGo, it is very inspiring to see your journey so far Smile

132orbust · 13/01/2021 20:55

That is so impressive @HalfShrunkMoreToGo you must be very proud of your effort.
I have just tried a new 2 mile Leslie walk on YouTube and made it through. It is at the end of a long working day that it is the hardest to make the time and energy and it is pouring rain here so I know if it wasn't for that I would have just slumped on the sofa probably with a cup of tea and a biscuit.
