Hello & Welcome

Roughly 4 weeks to Christmas ๐ŸŽ„. We all know itโ€™s been a strange unsettling year. Unprecedented. Nonetheless we all deserve to feel the best we can, be the best we can and strive to be as fit and healthy as possible. Not only will you look great in your finery, youโ€™ll be (to a degree) improving your immune system and your ability to fight infection should you get one. In addition, if we eat right, get outside, move more your mental health will heap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

Me personally? In the main itโ€™s been a way of life for nearly 3 years and Iโ€™ve lost over 40lbs. I had a bit of blip at the start of C19. After all my hard work I just started eating with impunity. Before I knew it I was10lbs up in a few short weeks! I needed to get back on it and COVID proof myself ๐Ÿ˜ฌ I calorie count, log via MFP app, Intermittent fast, eat-low carb Mediterranean style aka Fast800 Plan and try to stay well hydrated. In October/November I didnโ€™t really lose but did maintain. Iโ€™m hoping to see a loss this month which would see me firmly in the healthy BMI bracket.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. I also rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with lite weighs.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on this thread. We are in this together.

Hi @Galvantula well done on getting the snack dragon ๐Ÿ‰ under control! Youโ€™ve done really well with your goals!

@HolaVida lucky you โ„๏ธ. No snow here, just grey murky drizzly and very cold. Good luck with your weight in tomorrow!

Had the most amazing hug with DS1. He arrived while I was out on the school run so had a lovely welcome from ddog.

Dinner has arrived so back later. Hoping to do run number 100 tomorrow. At the moment I'm cold as been raining all day and ddog doesn't know how to shut the door!

Mull · 03/12/2020 19:31

Iโ€™m having a better day today, yesterday wasnโ€™t good. I really hurt my knee during my PT (Iโ€™m not sure skipping at this weight was a good idea Confused) so Iโ€™m not sure I can do my C25k graduation run tomorrow. So I ate a load of stuff I shouldnโ€™t have and am so annoyed with myself. Why do I sabotage myself like that? Anyway, Iโ€™m pleased that Iโ€™ve eaten well today, stuck to my plan and not snacked. Will wait a couple of days and run on Sun. Exercising is completely new to me but now Iโ€™m โ€˜in the zoneโ€™ and seen an improvement (ie a slightly longer/faster shuffle over the last 9wks!) Iโ€™m worried that an injury would really put me back.

MrsJonesAndMe · 03/12/2020 21:31

Hi all, just sticking my head round the door. Not doing well emotionally or physically really.

Well done to all the wonderful results and good vibes to those struggling. Will check in with you soon x

SunshineCake · 03/12/2020 22:07

Sorry to hear you aren't feeling great @MrsJonesAndMe. Always here to listen. Look after yourself Flowers.

MrsJonesAndMe · 04/12/2020 09:52

Thanks sweet. How are you - saw DD's not doing well. Have you had a big squish with DS?

Just falling apart at the seams!

TheRealHousewife · 04/12/2020 11:58

Itโ€™s a winter wonderland ....

Good morning everyone

Great to hear you had a lovely reunion with your ds @SunshineCake ๐Ÿ˜ŠCongrats on your 100 run (if you can get out today)

Hope your knee recovers quickly @Mull!

@MrsJonesAndMe sending a massive (((hug))) โค๏ธ

Hope youโ€™re ok @MrsJonesAndMe - itโ€™s a weird time weโ€™re living in x

Iโ€™m still on the wagon, I usually give up by now! Iโ€™m replacing snacks in the evening with diet bitter lemon - not gallons of it but Iโ€™m finding itโ€™s helping me to not reach for the crisps or the magnums in the freezer. Weโ€™re going out fir a meal tomorrow night, Iโ€™m just going to try to modify my choices but not sweat it too much - so couscous instead of chips etc

Have a great weekend everyone :)

Hi, sorry for being rubbish. First chance I have had to come on all day.

DD stuff is in hand but there's a few issues and it is hard.

Had the best cuddle in ages with Ds1. So lovely to have him here. He's great around the house, will cook and do the school run and is just a lovely boy.

I hope you feel better very soon.

SunshineCake · 04/12/2020 16:16

DH did the school run and DD is home today so I did get out and do my 100th run. Then had a lovely warm shower and took Ddog out for a walk with her doggy friend. Since then I haven't stopped with laundry, cooking, housework, present wrapping etc etc etc. Curry in the oven then I refuse to do anymore jobs. I am shattered. Woke twice last night and I just wish I could sleep all night. Have to be up early tomorrow as dh has an appointment so I'll be dog walking on my own but I've planned lunch and then dinner will be takeaway for DHs work Christmas party so a night off from cooking which will be wonderful.

Hope everyone is doing well and if you have snow please send some Grin โ›„๏ธ

HolaVida · 04/12/2020 17:25

Hey all, sorry to hear of those not well.

Down 2lb to 12st 11.5 today. Decent weight loss but had kind of hoped for more.

Coming on here at this point to remind myself not to let it all go to pot over the weekend! I'm another who enjoys diet bitter lemon.

Currently sipping sparkling water with a frozen slice of lemon it in - I'm trying to cut down alcohol a bit, and I can hardly tell it's not got gin in it!!

CescaNicole · 06/12/2020 09:15

Putting it out there so that I actually do it.....
When the kids are in bed tonight I am DEFINITELY going to do a workout.

Off to Santa's Grotto today ๐ŸŽ…๐Ÿป

Hope you're all doing well!!

FatGirlShrinking · 06/12/2020 09:31

I'm off swimming in a bit @CescaNicole with DD so won't be intensive but I'm really looking forward to it.

Although didn't think in advance to buy a new swimsuit and this ones a bit baggy so could be hazardous to other peoples eyesight!

Luckily my swim suit is a pair of men's swim shorts with drawstring and a tankini top so I think I can rig it all tight enough to not fall down ๐Ÿ˜‚

Hi all

I'm glad to hear you got your run in @SunshineCake and your DS1 does sound like a good egg.

Thanks for all the good wishes all, I'm having some health stuff and the GP isn't being very helpful from my perspective Also it's so cold with nowhere to go... Ah well, there's January to look forward to Wink
Weight is still around the 10kg loss so maintaining!

Hope you enjoyed family swim @FatGirlShrinking and you get on with that workout tonight @CescaNicole

FatGirlShrinking · 06/12/2020 17:03

Swimming was great, very proud of DD, she'd only just started lessons a couple of months before March lockdown and we weren't able to get in between the pools reopening and closing so I was a bit worried she'd be scared but she jumped in and had a grand old time.

My swimsuit was a total hazard though, nearly popped out a few times so now mid winter shopping for something every shop seems to have run down to bare minimum.

Booked in again for next weekend, one of the forgotten benefits is that DD is now very very tired so should be a quick bedtime ๐Ÿ˜†

Puffalicious · 06/12/2020 17:49

Fatshrinkinggirl I'm sooooo jealous of you getting to swim. Swimming is my thing- I swim 3 times a week- and the pools haven't been open here since March- Scotland tier 4- and I'm so frustrated. Glad you got, though.

Landsend have a great sale on swimwear (50% off), I just ordered one.

SunshineCake · 06/12/2020 19:10

I may have a swimsuit if you want to PM me the size, @FatGirlShrinking. It is an M & S one and I have only worn in three or so times. Not sure if SS can be past on Confused. It is clean, of course!

MawkishHawk · 06/12/2020 20:19

Hi, can I join?

I had a reality check last week when I was contacted as a possible match for a stem cell transplant, and I checked my height/weight for their form and I was borderline for being considered healthy enough to donate on BMI 35 Xmas Shock. I got straight on a bit of a quick fix low-carbing and in 8 days have lost 8.9lbs. It helped that I was off work (for house move) so both busy but also had time to cook/eat when I wanted. Back to work tomorrow. I got a call today that my stem cells are no longer needed (I hope the person found another donor rather than anything bad), so that immediate motivation isnโ€™t there any more but this has made me face reality. I am obese and unhealthy, recent bloods showed iron and B12 deficiencies.

Anyway I need to keep going and get healthy. Iโ€™m eating kinda low carb โ€˜lightโ€™ as I want to be more plant based than a true LCHF diet allows, I have also started taking orlistat as I was so horrified with myself, so you canโ€™t eat so much fat with that. So just kinda clean eating avoiding sugar etc.

Todayโ€™s food diary
B: mushroom & red onion omelette
L: Sri Lankan sweet potato soup (Baxterโ€™s can) with kale chips (homemade)
D: salmon with broccoli and green beans

Also started B12 injections and taking Vit D, iron, and B complex supplements. I have probiotics and a multivitamin on order, which is recommended when taking orlistat as fat soluble vitamins (A/C/E) can be reduced when on it.

I need to do this!

Hope everyone else has had a good weekend.

FatGirlShrinking · 06/12/2020 20:24

That's so kind @SunshineCake I'm looking for a tankini top though and then just pair that with men's swim shorts, being 5ft 8 and long of body I tend to find all in ones too short so they either ride way up of cut so low it's indecent ๐Ÿ˜†

Welcome @MawkishHawk we're a nice bunch here! What a good reason for wanting to lose weight, good luck and just remember that if you have a bad day for any reason it's just a blip and to get back on it the next day.

SunshineCake · 06/12/2020 22:15

No worries @FatGirlShrinking. Hope you find something. ๐ŸŠโ€โ™€๏ธ

SunshineCake · 06/12/2020 22:17

Marks and Spencer's have some.

MawkishHawk · 07/12/2020 06:58

Thankyou for the welcome @FatGirlShrinking!

Also thanks for the Landsend tip @Puffalicious Iโ€™ve also restarted swimming as part of this health crusade. Thereโ€™s some lovely looking suits there and they look designed for comfort and support rather than looking cute like most womenโ€™s swimmies!!! Just trying to work out what size I should order tho. Is there such a thing as swim leggings?!? I hate shaving my legs so often but feel self conscious at the pool if I donโ€™t!

PinGwyn · 07/12/2020 09:01

Morning all, I've had a bit of a bumpy week but back to it today ๐Ÿ™‚

Hope you're all well.

SunshineCake · 07/12/2020 16:39

Hi everyone and welcome to any newbies I have missed.

Had my first run in sleet and hail and wondered what I was thinking. I need to get a hat as I doubt I can run in my bobble hat Grin.

Feeling very tense after huge row with DD17. I wrote her an apology as apparently I am rubbish at it and she seems to have accepted it. She is such hard work and a real madam at times. My boys are so easy. Leaves me tearful.

Done lots, exhausted, still so much to do. Sick of cooking. Will carry on.

Hope everyone else is well and I'll be back later in a less pathetic mood.
