Sometimes I’m really lax at weekends but generally I try to make space for weekends by under-eating enough in the week to allow the extra cals at the weekend (so that it balances out over the week). Or if I know I’ve got a big or calorific meal planned I save my daily calories for it and making it the only time I eat that day. I also do an extra exercise session to earn a few more calories. If I know about the big meal a few days ahead, I will bank a few extra exercise sessions just to make some room for the food. That’s the plan anyway, it doesn’t always quite work out but I try and having a plan helps.

MrsSnitchnose · 18/05/2020 11:56

@lovinglavidaloca The best part of that article was the smashing of starvation mode. Really winds me up when it gets mentioned as it's nonsense.

Also the use of a food scale. There is no way to accurately track calories unless you're weighing food out. Good one to share Smile

Yesssss about starvation mode. I actually start to twitch when people start going on about it Confused

I get so fed up weighing my food but it’s got to be done hasn’t it!

MrsSnitchnose · 18/05/2020 12:49

I do too. If someone gets a bit preachy about it, I usually reply with "No fat people in concentration camps", or refer them to the Minnesota experiment mentioned in that article.

With regards to weighing out, it's actually quite satisfying when you put the portion on the scale and it's exactly right because you've been doing it so long you kind of just know

On day 2. Hungry and a bit cross.
This will be the status quo for a bit, right? No pain no gain and all that?
I hadn’t heard of ‘starvation mode’ but it’s bollocks, right?

sushinelove · 18/05/2020 15:34

@lovinglavidaloca that was an interesting link. I've been guilty of repeating the "starvation mode" from time to time. I needed to see that in black and white to realise how ludicrous it actually is.

MrsSnitchnose · 18/05/2020 15:47

@sushinelove There are loads of in depth threads on the myfitnesspal forum if you want to dig a little deeper

I think it’s just a good myth to have debunked because even on this board if someone isn’t losing and you’ll have people telling them to up their calories when really they need to still lower them or be more realistic about how many they’re actually having.

Queenoftheashes · 18/05/2020 18:01

Yes - it’s about lowering them but keeping nutrient-dense food in there as opposed to eating 800 calories of biscuits a day which the OP of a recent thread was recommending...

diege · 18/05/2020 18:53

Mmmm 800 calories worth of biscuits...where's that thread! 😂
I found the article really interesting too loving. I remember people at SW being told that they weren't eating enough, and that was why they'd not lost weight that week...🤔
I've finished my main meals and have 576 calories left 😅 so will at the very least have a walnut whip later. I aldi have a curly wurly in the fridge!

lovinglavidaloca · 18/05/2020 19:22

Well I’m bloody raging at my OH tonight! Wanted to go for a run so asked him nicely to make the dinner which is a super easy sausage and veg traybake and to weigh all the veg. I come back and he’s swirling vegetable oil all over the tray of sausages and veg and hasn’t weighed a thing so I’ve no idea how many calories is in it all. I had a go at him to be told I’m giving him ‘lip’ and ‘not to take it out on him that I’m angry’ ... reasonable?! I’m trying so hard to lose weight, which he knows then just does that! And doesn’t give a fuck that I’m upset!

Sorry Blush

Queenoftheashes · 18/05/2020 20:35

Yeah men don’t follow the diet rules. This is why I do all the cooking.

diege · 18/05/2020 22:28

Very unreasonable loving! I'm sure he's not, but I know some partners do 'sabotage' weight-loss efforts through the supposed 'threat' it represents to the status quo...(been there). At least I have total control in that department!

OwlinaTree · 18/05/2020 22:29

That is frustrating loving. Veg doesn't have many calories, read the packet of sausages and have a guess.

Ok day here for me, quite busy. Had a run, went over the fields as bored of my normal route. Bit slower as hard to run over fields! But made a nice change.

Breakfast overnight oats and banana, lunch lentil and chicken soup, snack of a satsuma, dinner salmon and veg and spuds, supper yoghurt and a bit of chocolate. Not bad.

lovinglavidaloca · 18/05/2020 22:42

Thanks for the sympathy folks! I ended up having a naked noodle thing instead as really didn’t want to guesstimate the calories. Lesson learned, don’t ask him to cook!

Owlina I would definitely break my ankle if I tried to run across a field Grin

Fabulodosus · 18/05/2020 22:44

Oh no! That is something mine would do 😔

Thanks for the article... just had a major snack attack after being really good for a few weeks... I should have read it first!!! Ahhh well, tomorrow's a new day 😬

@owlina your run sounds lovely! I bailed after 3km of my 5k yesterday... whoops!

JonHammIsMyJamm · 19/05/2020 09:10

Hope your house is a little calmer today, @lovinglavidaloca Smile

I’ve had my omlette but I’m hungry today. Today is a run day, so I might head upstairs (to treadmill) and get it done as a distraction. @OwlinaTree, I would also knacker my ankles and knees if I went cross country on runs, hats off to you!

OwlinaTree · 19/05/2020 09:45

Just getting bored of the same routes all the time!

OwlinaTree · 19/05/2020 09:51

I'm feeling good about it all today, I feel like my stomach looks flatter, unfortunately I have quite soft skin on my tummy after 3 pregnancies! But we will see on Thursday if the scales agree.

OwlinaTree · 19/05/2020 09:55

I've been locked out of SW online now as I'm not a member of a zoom group. So I'm relying on you guys now to keep on the straight and narrow!

OneOfTheGrundys · 19/05/2020 10:29

Hello good morning!
I have that pizza doughy skin too owlina. I am going to wear support pants!
Thank you for the article.
Do you reward yourselves at all when you get to certain points in your weight loss?
When I’m running up a hill I think of how I’ll treat myself when I’m thinner! I’m working towards a fancy eyeliner palette I think for my first 1/2 stone 🤔

OneOfTheGrundys · 19/05/2020 10:30

SW wasn’t good for me. I lost a little then gained a lot.

diege · 19/05/2020 10:42

Another one with pizza dough tummy here! 😩 I was ok until dc 4 (10 pounder) and then my stomach muscles separated and remain so (sorry physio!).

I was always a big SW fan - lost 3 stone on it and was part of the 'social team' , weighing members, and selling those crap (but oddly delicious) hifi bars 😂 Maintained for several years but a series of major life events pushed me off the wagon. I'm now just calorie counting (MFP) and like the control is gives you, and the accountability. So, with SW I max out my syns and that's it for the day...whereas with MFP I can redeem myself at a later meal - I like that!
Trying to drink more water today - on my second glass (struggling).

diege · 19/05/2020 10:45

oneofthegrundys yes, I'm reward-led! I fancy treating myself to some new makeup (have discovered Glossier website). It's my 50th next week 😩 and while I won't manage a stone loss by then, am aiming to reward what I have lost with a chocolate caterpillar cake - probably the lot over a few days! 🤪

JonHammIsMyJamm · 19/05/2020 12:06

I also have the dreaded ‘mummy tummy’. Even when I’m at my lightest (BMI of 19), I still have it. It’s a skin thing, not a fat thing. It’s worse when I bend over. The saggy horrorShock. Celebs must have it all snipped off.
