16:8 does not feel like another shitty diet!. I managed to lose fat, have more energy and feel positive about life.

Hey,
I want to share my experience, I tried several diets in the past with little luck, I found them boring and I usually ended up caving in, binging on food and ending up back at square one.

However, I finally found the 16:8 fast really worked for me in losing weight.
I enjoy my food and more importantly I enjoy life without having to restrict myself anymore. Life is too short as they say!.

Weight loss can fill like a constant uphill battle, I know that feeling first hand. So, I would like to help where I can, let me know your struggles with the diet or what problems you have?. Happy to give tips or inspiration to others from my experience.

It is the little steps every day that add up to big results over time 😀. Let's all help and support one another!.

I have managed three days 18:6 diet. I don't find that so difficult because I didn't eat breakfast anyway. But I did have a snack around ten. I am pretty hungry at lunch time.

heidbuttsupper · 23/05/2020 18:48

I started this last Sunday and have lost 7lbs so feel great! It's really helped me to control my binge eating

FoxglovesRosesandPeonies · 23/05/2020 18:50

Joining in - am sick of the flubber now. 12-8 here I come!

SkeletonSkins · 23/05/2020 19:13

I have found the ‘zero’ app useful to track my fasts and also to show me my ‘streak’ which makes me want to keep going so I don’t break it!

heidbuttsupper · 24/05/2020 07:12

Thanks @SkeletonSkins I downloaded this yesterday, really helps!

milkysmum · 24/05/2020 07:33

I'm back intermittent fasting and feel so much better for it. A couple of days a week I'll do a longer fast ( either 18:6 or 20:4 ).
So much less to think about than an actual diet and the weight really does drop off, along with all the other health benefits.

MissFitton · 24/05/2020 08:26

Interesting thread which I will join if I may?
I did 5:2 years ago with good outcomes but I think 16:8 is going to work better for me this time. Having weighed myself this morning lockdown snacking has resulted in me being 10lbs heavier than I've been for years. And although 10 stone 10 at 5'9 isn't overweight it's a good 10-14 lbs over where I feel comfortable. Too much wine and cheese... Grin

Also agree with it being diet led rather than exercise as during lockdown I've been running, dog walking and doing Joe Wicks every day. So yes, wine and cheese Grin

Aim is to get back to 10 stone by the end of June.

VodkaAndDietCokePlease · 24/05/2020 09:51

I inadvertently started this yesterday and think I may try and continue!

I'm 5'6 and weigh 10 stone-ish at a guess, maybe just over. I look my best between 9-9.5 stone so would like to shift a little bit!

Yesterday I had some tomato soup and 2 slices of whole grain toast with a little cheese on about 3pm. Then a Chinese (Grin) at just after 9. So not ideal but there we go!

Today I'll aim for some fruit and fibre with a banana at around 12, then Sunday roast about 4. I usually pick at sweet things all Sunday night so will struggle not to do that! But all the positive stories on this thread have spurred me on!

So that’s week 1 done for me! Kitchen closes at 8, but I’ve been calorie counting too so I’m going to try not to have anything else tonight. Not sure whether to weigh in tomorrow or leave it a week so my body has adjusted...

justanotherneighinparadise · 24/05/2020 19:43

It was my favourite dinner tonight but I managed to not eat and instead I’ll have it tomorrow in my eating window 👍

ThornyR0se · 24/05/2020 20:22

This is working hurrah!! I’ve been sticking to 1200 cals for a few weeks and was losing verrrrry slowly but I’ve gone to 16:8 and it’s starting to shift thank god!

milkysmum · 24/05/2020 20:29

lifeapps.io/apps/life-fasting-tracker/
The Life App really helps stay on track with the fasts, particularly in the early weeks.

justanotherneighinparadise · 24/05/2020 20:40

I use Fastic but I’ve also used Zero.

Fishfingersandwichplease · 24/05/2020 22:48

I started it by accident during lockdown - was getting up later than usual, too late to eat before doing Joe Wicks so started eating at 10am and made sure l had dinner by 5pm lost just over a stone! Obvs am mindful of what l eat but so far so good!!

Fishfingersandwichplease · 24/05/2020 22:49

Sorry 6pm! Can't count!

MillieMoodle · 25/05/2020 07:13

I've just started 16:8 (day 3 for me) so I'm really pleased to have found this thread and very encouraged that it works for so many of you! My eating window is 12pm-8pm which I have managed ok with so far. I've had black coffee and water before 12pm and then a Coke Zero and black tea after 8pm which seems to keep the hunger at bay! I've got 3 stone to shift ideally. My starting weight is 12st 7lbs, but my first goal is to get under 12st.

MsTSwift · 25/05/2020 07:32

I think (hope) this is sustainable as I eat what I did before only less of it and between 12 - 8pm. Have lost 2 stone since Oct so really happy now ensuring I maintain. Eating this way seems to let me have home made treacle tart and the odd cream tea without gaining. Also wine at weekends

VodkaAndDietCokePlease · 25/05/2020 08:53

Can we change the times of our 8 hour window or does it need to be set?

Our evening meal time changes depending on when DH will be home as I like us to eat together. So I try and work out what time we'll be likely to have tea and work backwards from that so I know when my first meal will be.

justanotherneighinparadise · 25/05/2020 10:01

So my apps just told me I fasted for 164hrs last week and lost 4lb!!!! I’m very very chuffed Grin

Zombiemama · 25/05/2020 11:20

Have just started this today. Lockdown has had me reaching for the snacks to fill the boredom.

Doing 11-7 with My Fitness Pal as a rough guide for the macros to keep carbs down as I bloat so much.

Does anyone know if drinking water with a little diluting juice (like miwadi zero) would be much of an issue during fasting? I just can't stand the taste of plain water and don't drink coffee or tea

Moo678 · 25/05/2020 11:25

@zombiemamma the book I’ve read (delay, don’t deny) advocates ‘clean fasting’ so only water, plain sparkling water or black tea or coffee. She claims that artificial sweeteners like you have in squash or diet drinks or even sugar free gum can cause an insulin surge. Don’t know if it’s true though. I’ve really been missing squash. Lots of people on here don’t stick strictly to the rules and still seem to lose.... I guess you just need to try and see what works for you.

lovely123 · 25/05/2020 11:39

I’ve been attempting 16:8, following a low carb, healthy diet, walking 10k everyday and whilst I feel really good, the weight is not shifting much, I’m 49 with an under active thyroid, has anyone been successful with this condition?

HorsesDoovers · 25/05/2020 11:40

Hi I am interested in this, lost and gained the same 2-3 stone so many times and currently way too heavy.
Can I ask, do you follow this every single day, or just a few days a week? Thanks

Zombiemama · 25/05/2020 11:48

I might initially try it with a small dash of juice and just see how it goes cutting out fizzy drinks and only eating within the window. Hopefully the dash of juice won't interfere too much.
