16:8 does not feel like another shitty diet!. I managed to lose fat, have more energy and feel positive about life.

Hey,
I want to share my experience, I tried several diets in the past with little luck, I found them boring and I usually ended up caving in, binging on food and ending up back at square one.

However, I finally found the 16:8 fast really worked for me in losing weight.
I enjoy my food and more importantly I enjoy life without having to restrict myself anymore. Life is too short as they say!.

Weight loss can fill like a constant uphill battle, I know that feeling first hand. So, I would like to help where I can, let me know your struggles with the diet or what problems you have?. Happy to give tips or inspiration to others from my experience.

It is the little steps every day that add up to big results over time 😀. Let's all help and support one another!.

Yes, you are right @Bella444. Good luck. I am not weighing until next week now I tihnk or weekend. Too depressing! I am going to keep going.

SkeletonSkins · 15/06/2020 11:40

I’m sorry to hear people haven’t had the results they wanted. If it helps, this method definitely took my body a week or so to get into it and start losing. Fingers crossed you start seeing results soon.

purplepandas · 15/06/2020 11:54

Thanks @SkeletonSkins, that so helpful to hear.

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 15/06/2020 12:49

I've been really strict with myself, and only weighed weekly because I knew if I didn't like what I saw on the scales I would stop and actually there are so many benefits to this way of eating that I'm appreciating.

Next weigh in is on Weds.

Lovelymonkeyninetynine · 16/06/2020 00:03

I think I need a bit of motivation. Feeling crap. I was doing really well but had a total weekend of boozing and junk. Yesterday I didn't fast at all. Back in it today 12-8 but still didn't make the best food choices to be honest.
I am finding timings tricky: if you have a meal or lunch at 12, is anyone else then super hungry by 5? I've tried a small snack in between but still then cook for the kids at 5ish and want to demolish their leftovers. This has been my problem since having kids!
Ugh, just feeling defeated like a repeat yo yoer. Sorry for the pity party!

Moo678 · 16/06/2020 06:48

Hey @Lovelymonkeyninetynine I’m by no means an expert but I do 11-7 and I do much better if I eat my meals at 13:00 and 6. I sometimes manage to wait until 13:00 to have anything but if I’m super hungry I have a fibre one bar or a special k protein bar or (my new thing) sliced apple with peanut butter - these tide me over until lunch and then I’m fine until we have dinner at 6. Or could you just eat with the kids at 5? I’ve got 3 (10,8 and 2) and we all eat at 6 - no way I could wait til later! Good luck - you can make this work for you x

bluefoxmug · 16/06/2020 07:09

lovemonkey can you eat with the children and then just have a salad later when you usually would have dinner?

or have a mug of hot water with bovril/marmite/stockpowder at that time.

bluefoxmug · 16/06/2020 07:10

if I go for a run before dinner I will have a small glass of kefir.

Lovelymonkeyninetynine · 16/06/2020 07:45

I hadn't thought of that, I'm going to eat at the same time as the kids and make their meal a little later. Will also try waiting till nearer 1 for lunch.
Right. Onwards and upwards! Really find this thread a help, thank you everyone x

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 16/06/2020 09:31

I'm attempting an extended fast today. I had my tea at 5pm last night and am attempting to fast until lunchtime tomorrow.

My daily routine usually falls into 18/6 and I've done up to 24hrs previously but this is a big jump.

So far I feel fine but I've a long way to go yet!

Bella444 · 16/06/2020 10:10

I stayed within my window yesterday but decided to give myself a break and not worry about the calories. Back to normal today though!

MoonBabysMagicalKalimba · 16/06/2020 10:24

I've stuck to my fasting window every day even on days I have eaten more treats than usual, so I'm hoping this will have an effect. Going to weigh myself at the end of the week, I'm hoping I can get below 13st for the first time since before I had my DC 18 months ago!

@Lovelymonkeyninetynine the first week or two that I did this, I had the exact same issue as you - lunch at 1ish, dinner at 7ish and starving in between. Weirdly that's totally passed within the last week or two and I'm fine between those 2 meals, I'm 3 or 4 (lost track!) weeks into this now.

I might do an extended fast tomorrow, finish at dinnertime tonight and go until tomorrow dinnertime.

SallyWD · 16/06/2020 10:32

I eat between meals. I try not to overdo it but I wouldn't like not eating for 7 or so hours during my eating period! I also have a massive brunch so I'm very full for many hours. I can only stick at 16/8 because there's no hunger involved. If I was going to feel ravenous whilst doing it I wouldn't bother.

CalmConfident · 16/06/2020 10:51

Back on the 16:8, lost 9kg since last summer. It really works for me

UnicornAndSparkles · 16/06/2020 12:05

Hello all, sorry to hear some of you havent had the losses you hoped for. I really struggle with losing anything by doing the 8:16; I find I have to log everything and stick to 1450 cal a day as well as keeping my eating window to around 9h to lose anything. I've failed a LOT previously! But happily this week I've managed to go from 13 stone 4.4 to 13 stone 2.2 in my first week. Its given me a boost to keep it up and stick to it. I don't deprive myself of things I like, I just eat a lot less. I miss eating however much I want to but I am in the overweight BMI and I need to reign it in for my health. Feeling positive today. We can do this!

BeeFarseer · 16/06/2020 21:23

Adding my voice to the 'not lost anything yet' crowd. I've done 10 fasts in a row. But I feel like I'm in control around food now, which is priceless. I look a bit thinner around my middle too.

bluefoxmug · 16/06/2020 21:37

for me, a lot depends on totm.
the first couple of days of my period I am up to a couple of pounds heavier. just due to the fluid retention.
that's just the way it is for many women. sadly.

Tallace · 17/06/2020 11:40

I'm so pleased i saw this thread. I've been doing this for about 4 weeks and have lost 5 pounds. I have stuck to the eating window 95% of the time some days going for longer than 16 hours and though i am still having a couple of biscuits in the afternoon that is a lot less junk than I used to eat. I have cut out wine, fruit juice and pre dinner slices of toast. I don't feel deprived of anything its been fairly easy. My stomach is definitely looking a flatter which is a big motivator.

coffeeagogo · 17/06/2020 14:23

I have done about 10 days of this now, have been fasting from 8-12pm but most days finish dinner by 7pm and on calls until 1pm so it is a bit longer. I have found it really easy to do.

I have been keeping track of calories on my fitness pal aiming for 1800 a day (I am very tall) but eating pretty much whatever I fancy (fish and chips at the weekend and pizza last night) but also exercising as normal and have lost 2.2kg. So I am sold on this and going to keep going.

mamamawr · 17/06/2020 14:47

Since I first posted I've bought and read the obesity code to try and understand a little more about this.

It feels like it should be such a good fit for me because as I said previously I naturally don't feel hungry until at least 12 however it's just not working. I am fatter than ever.

I think I need to try the longer fasts but so far am really struggling to do them. I'm fine until it's time to cook dinner for the family and it all goes to pot, has anyone got any advice to help me power through?

SkeletonSkins · 17/06/2020 18:45

Three little achievements for me today -

  1. Someone offered me a biscuit and I said no thank you
  2. Someone took an unexpected photo of me while I was doing something and I didn’t hate it
  3. I completed my longest fast to date which was 19 hours! I wasn’t hugely hungry either, I only ate as I wouldn’t personally be able to get enough calories in one meal per day and it’s important to me to still eat enough calories to be healthy.

What I’ve really noticed is a huge change in my appetite. I’m so so much less hungry and I’m full a lot more quickly. I never snack between my two meals as I just don’t get hungry.

Those struggling to lose, it definitely took me a couple of weeks for it to really kick in. If it’s been longer than that, perhaps it’s worth logging what you’re eating for a couple of days to see if there’s anything with unexpectedly high calories? Eg I’m always shocked by the number of calories in fresh fruit juice.

Another pattern I’ve noticed is I seem to have two or three days at the same weight then a sudden drop. Hoping from a drop tomorrow 🤞🤞

MurrayTheMonk · 18/06/2020 21:58

I'm on day 5 of this (tho cheated a bit last night as had some wine in a friends garden in my fasting time). In finding it easy enough-I'm hungry in the mornings as I'm used to eating before I leave for work (doing this I now usually eat between 11am and 7pm) but that's about it.
I don't really weigh myself I just go on how clothes fit to see if I've lost, plus it's totm so probably haven't seen much difference yet, but still early days and I will stick with it.

SkeletonSkins · 19/06/2020 08:31

Just an update for no one else really other than myself. I’ve felt my weight loss has slowed down the pass day or so even though I’ve been quite good but I’m not sure if it might be because I’ve had the runs (TMI sorry) and maybe I’m a bit bloated or retaining water or something? Idk?

Anyway overall in 37 days I’ve lost 10.5lbs, 5.5lbs of that was in the last two weeks. This week I’ve only lost a pound though and I’ve mostly done 18:6. Maybe my body doesn’t like 18:6... oh well will see what happens next week!

Pinkvici22 · 19/06/2020 09:39

I’m wondering if this is not for me - I’ve stayed the same again (sticking strictly to 16:8, but more frequently fasting for longer due to work), and have kept between 1200 and 1400 calories. I’m so disheartened!

unicornparty · 19/06/2020 09:47

It doesn't work for me either. No idea why. I'm on my 4th week. It's weigh in day today but I weighed yesterday and was the same as when I started. I'm not going through this fasting for nothing! No idea why it works for some and not for others.
