16:8 does not feel like another shitty diet!. I managed to lose fat, have more energy and feel positive about life.

Hey,
I want to share my experience, I tried several diets in the past with little luck, I found them boring and I usually ended up caving in, binging on food and ending up back at square one.

However, I finally found the 16:8 fast really worked for me in losing weight.
I enjoy my food and more importantly I enjoy life without having to restrict myself anymore. Life is too short as they say!.

Weight loss can fill like a constant uphill battle, I know that feeling first hand. So, I would like to help where I can, let me know your struggles with the diet or what problems you have?. Happy to give tips or inspiration to others from my experience.

It is the little steps every day that add up to big results over time 😀. Let's all help and support one another!.

I tracked my calories yesterday just to check. I ate 1600 calories (100g of protein) and I did hiit so my net calories were probably around 1300.

moveandmove · 04/06/2020 07:56

Plus I'm finding I'm so tired. I'm struggling to wake up in the mornings. I've never had that problem before.

MoonBabysMagicalKalimba · 04/06/2020 09:33

Had a day off yesterday due to celebrating, back on today and I’m going to try to fast until dinner time. We’ll see though!

Not weighed myself in a few days as I’ve been awfully constipated! This has been the only issue I’ve had throughout this diet. Really hope it doesn’t last long term.

SkeletonSkins · 04/06/2020 09:55

How tall are you @moveandmove? I try not to eat any exercise calorie. It might be that this method just doesn’t suit you, lots of diets suit some more than others eg I know Keto is miraculous for many but I just couldn’t abide it.

moveandmove · 04/06/2020 10:06

I'm 5ft 5. Even at 1600 calories I should be losing though shouldn't I? I have a lot of muscle which naturally burns more calories. Plus I'm hungry and tired so dropping the calories even more would make both of those even worse.
I'm starting to think that this method isn't suitable for me. I'll do it until the end of June and then reevaluate.

bluefoxmug · 04/06/2020 10:32

at 5.9, mid 40s my tdee is only about 1700. Shock

you might still eat too many calories to lose.

moveandmove · 04/06/2020 10:43

I did a tdee calculator and it said 2100. Confused

jackstini · 04/06/2020 11:07

9 days in and lost 3 1/2 pounds!
Waist still same but feeling positive Smile
Mostly doing 1-9

LinManWellWellWell · 04/06/2020 11:08

@moveandmove you may find that Slimming World is a better fit for you as you can probably eat more - have you ever looked into that? If you’re exhausted and hangry this may not be working well for you!

snappycamper · 04/06/2020 11:20

Moveandmove I've put on a pound too, after 12 days of strict fasting (16-8 or 17-7). I have been tracking my calories and have a lot to lose so I'm quite surprised. Normally on any diet I lose at the start then struggle to keep it up over time. This feels different as I'm finding it relatively easy, but that's no good if the weight isn't coming off Confused

I'm going to give it a few more weeks and see if there's any change.

moveandmove · 04/06/2020 11:27

I'm glad it's not just me, I was beginning to think there was something wrong with me! Yes I'll give it a bit longer too but no point doing it for no result.

Snuggz · 04/06/2020 12:19

Hi all, just spent this morning reading this thread from start to finish, lots of inspiring posts! This is day 11 for me and also TOTM but I’m feeling surprisingly well. Last week I lost 4.4 pounds.

My fast is due to end in half an hour but I might just extend it as I’m not hungry. This way of eating has truly blown my mind and opened my eyes to all the mindless snacking I was doing.

LinManWellWellWell · 04/06/2020 12:44

So I’ve just finished my first week of this and lost 3lbs - woohoo! Question though, does anyone else find that they just feel ‘better’ during their fasting hours rather than eating hours? I feel fine drinking my water and coffee in the morning by as soon as I start eating I start feeling tired, headachey etc. I’ve been trying to vary what I eat to break the fast - today it was carrot sticks and boiled egg. But am still struggling. I fast 6pm-10am so maybe I should just have a bowl of cereal? It’s confusing! I’m almost relieved when I get to 6pm!

LipstickTaserrr · 04/06/2020 12:51

I really want to try this because I am massively overweight and have a really unhealthy relationship with food however when I don't eat I really struggle with feeling sick, dizzy, shaky and weak. I crave sugary foods and find when I am stressed I'm in the kitchen cupboards before I even realise what I'm doing.
I'm still breastfeeding my 17 month old who is a terrible sleeper and I'm stuck at home all day with two children am I doomed?!

LipstickTaserrr · 04/06/2020 12:52

Oh and I missed indigestion of my list!

bluefoxmug · 04/06/2020 12:57

however when I don't eat I really struggle with feeling sick, dizzy, shaky and weak

I thought I would struggle as well. but then later realised it's tea that makes me feel queasy on an empty stomach. switched to coffee and all was good.

Tallace · 04/06/2020 13:01

@LinManWellWellWell
Yes i agree, on about 3 occasions i have felt weak and dizzy after breaking my fast, having felt fine before eating.

LipstickTaserrr · 04/06/2020 13:03

I only drink coffee but then I wonder if that's what's causing my indigestion Sad

Snuggz · 04/06/2020 13:15

@LipstickTaserrr I’m in not too dissimilar position to you (massively overweight and have a 9m old) and I’ve only been doing this for 11 days now but honestly I’ve found that it makes me so much more mindful of what I’m eating and takes the stress away of what to eat next. This coming from an ex-crisp monster who could easily devour a multipack in one day all to herself and didn’t understand a few biscuits with a hot drink and would eat the whole packet. Give it a try, what have you got to lose?

SkeletonSkins · 04/06/2020 15:57

I’ve read that some people are very careful about what they break fast with, sticking to something low carb, high protein and fairly small (obviously eating more later). I definitely think I noticed being ‘full’ as a more uncomfortable feeling than previously.

Weigh day...put on a lb. gutted but hoping it’s just fluctuations from TOTM.

SkeletonSkins · 05/06/2020 09:30

@Pinkvici22

My weight has fluctuated quite a lot on this and I’ve not even had TOTM so I definitely wouldn’t be too disheartened. I personally gain like 4 or 5lbs when it’s TOTM. This shows my weight fluctuations recently:

Friday - 192lb
Monday - 191lb
Wednesday - 194lb
Friday - 190.6lb

So if I’d have only weight on weds I’d have been sad!

Really hoping I can get back into 180s by Monday 🤞🤞🤞

Pinkvici22 · 05/06/2020 09:45

Thank you SkeletonSkins that is reassuring that I’m not alone.

I’ve had a hard week - work, personal and TOTM and I’m a chocoholic and an emotional eater (both of which are worse at TOTM!), but I’ve tried so hard this week! Will hopefully see a shift next week.

I was only down 3lbs in 2 weeks as it was!

Onthebrink67 · 05/06/2020 10:24

Can I ask for some advice please about exercise. Since starting 16:8 I’ve got acid reflux and I think it’s due to doing yoga first thing on a completely empty stomach. Has anyone else found this? I could do yoga in the evening but I find it much easier to motivate myself in the morning

beachdreaming2020 · 06/06/2020 08:24

Onthebrink67 I’m afraid I don’t have much to suggest as I haven’t suffered from this, other than to check you are drinking plenty fluids. I typically prefer to do my weekly morning yoga class (pre lockdown) before eating as I wouldn’t like to exercise on a full stomach but everyone is different.
