16:8 does not feel like another shitty diet!. I managed to lose fat, have more energy and feel positive about life.

Hey,
I want to share my experience, I tried several diets in the past with little luck, I found them boring and I usually ended up caving in, binging on food and ending up back at square one.

However, I finally found the 16:8 fast really worked for me in losing weight.
I enjoy my food and more importantly I enjoy life without having to restrict myself anymore. Life is too short as they say!.

Weight loss can fill like a constant uphill battle, I know that feeling first hand. So, I would like to help where I can, let me know your struggles with the diet or what problems you have?. Happy to give tips or inspiration to others from my experience.

It is the little steps every day that add up to big results over time 😀. Let's all help and support one another!.

I've had no problems with sleep and have been doing this long term. I'm very good at sleeping!

locked2020 · 29/05/2020 20:37

Can you have alcohol?

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 29/05/2020 20:49

I’m hoping this works without calorie counting and being very hardcore. I can stick to 16:8 but I don’t want to calorie count within that if I don’t have to. Hopefully I can get to the point where I have naturally cut down on snacks and I don’t have to stick to 1000 calories. I’m very short so this may be wishful thinking!

justanotherneighinparadise · 29/05/2020 20:58

I think you can first try without counting calories and then tighten it up of need be.

randomer · 29/05/2020 21:21

I sure as hell wish I could tighten up.

randomer · 29/05/2020 21:24

I can't ever imagine 4 shakes is going to help anybody?

SkeletonSkins · 29/05/2020 21:50

@locked2020

Can you have alcohol?
Within your 8 hours, yes, in your fasting time, no.
locked2020 · 30/05/2020 02:07

Thanks

I love the 16:8 way of eating and have lost around 2 stone since July last year. I still have a stone to go and I find my weight loss plateaus unless I combine it with low carb eating. It really is an easy 'diet' to follow and once you are used to it, it becomes a habit :)

beachdreaming2020 · 30/05/2020 09:19

CeibaTree - Wow well done on your weight loss and for sticking at it. Very interesting to read your comment about low carb, already I’ve found it easier the more low GI food I eat. Do you calorie count at all? I am really hoping to not have to.

justanotherneighinparadise · 30/05/2020 09:21

I’m weighed 160lb on the nose this morning having STS for two days. I do want to drop into the 150s. I was 157 at the beginning of lockdown and want to get back there then edge back down to 151 (my lightest last year).

CeibaTree · 30/05/2020 09:43

beachdreaming2020 Thank you :) I only calorie count on MyFitnessPal occasionally if I just want to make sure I'm not going too overboard - particularly on days I don't low carb. But I am determined to lose the last 10 or so kilos, so I've gone back to only having carbs at one meal per day, and have lost half a kilo this past week. So I'm not counting macros or anything like that, just limiting my carb intake. I know some people can lose weight through calorie counting alone, but the only thing that works for me is cutting right back on any carb heavy food - probably because I love potatoes and bread and overeat them when I have them!

DaffyDaffy · 30/05/2020 09:55

I've been lurking on this thread and joining in, the enthusiasm of everyone really motivates me.

However, I keep reading about how everyone is regulating their appetite and realising they don't even want the cheesecake etc whereas I'm counting the minutes and then heading straight for the biscuit tin. My scales are broken but I suspect I'm actually putting on weight, given the urgency for sugar... where am I going wrong? 😭

justanotherneighinparadise · 30/05/2020 09:59

Daffy I do allow myself some sugar if I fancy it but only after my meal. Eating something sugary on an empty stomach is a disaster for insulin production, that will be stored as fat nonquestion.

DaffyDaffy · 30/05/2020 10:12

Thanks neigh, I guess I just hoped my appetite would calm down a bit!

justanotherneighinparadise · 30/05/2020 10:22

Daffy I also used to have raging hunger but I know for me it’s because when I eat carbs I crave food generally. That’s why I have a small feeling window. I eat what I want, usually until I’m full and then I stop. The worst diet for me is eating little and often. Then I’m just starving all day long.

justanotherneighinparadise · 30/05/2020 10:24

I know I’m a Jason Fung bore but I love his podcasts because it just so sensible. If you e got Spotify or iTunes go onto the podcast bit and put in his name. Then get on with some housework while you’re listening. It’s honestly life changing.

CeibaTree · 30/05/2020 11:20

Daffy For me, the only way I could stop eating and craving delicious sugary things like cheesecake was to go cold turkey on anything with processed sugar; and to also tell myself that the joy I got from crisps or cake was so fleeting, but the numbers going down on the scales and my clothes feeling looser is actually a real tangible thing :)

SallyWD · 30/05/2020 11:36

@DaffyDaffy I do sometimes get starving just before my fasting period ends and I do often grab something sweet if I fancy it. I think it's the low blood sugar (I'm eating a slice of chocolate cake as I type!). However once I've eaten something I find my appetite really calms down. I certainly don't feel like binging or eating cake for the full 8 hours. I eat 2 really filling meals then snacks in between (if I want to eat cake or crisps I do but the 2 big meals each day really fill me up). I always break my fast with a fruit salad. Maybe you could try that? You get a sugar hit but in a more healthy way! Then try immediately having a big brunch or lunch and you'll probably find you're very full and no longer craving biscuits.

mondaypolomint · 30/05/2020 12:29

Hi I'm tempted to try 16:8 but I'm wondering is it ok if you have Gastro oesophageal reflux disease GORD which I take omeprazole for. Basically I try to avoid fatty spicy foods or anything that I know might trigger the reflux etc. Has anyone got any experience of this please?

MoonBabysMagicalKalimba · 30/05/2020 13:08

I really struggled today for the first time in nearly 2 weeks of this. Was counting down the minutes to 16 hours and felt weak and light headed. My period is due anytime now so maybe that could be why?

beachdreaming2020 · 30/05/2020 13:25

I hope I didn’t give the wrong impression with my cheesecake anecdote..! I did actually have some cake - but I had it the next day. I guess what I was highlighting was that I would never ever have denied myself the cheesecake before, zero willpower, whereas I can had a more rational conversation with myself and decided to have it later when I really was hungry (as opposed to greedy).
I was quite headachey for the last hour of today’s fast. First time I didn’t have a morning tea with milk but herbal instead. Probably as much to do with caffeine withdrawal as anything else!

DaffyDaffy · 30/05/2020 15:18

Thanks everyone, and @beachdreaming I hope I didn't make you feel bad! I'm an all or nothing eater, I think. Ditching sugar completely is probably the way to go , I just thought it might magically happen if I kept to my 8hr window :)

Gallacia · 30/05/2020 18:15

Day 2 has been okay for me, just started my fast and this morning I was a lot more positive than the first morning

Lordamighty · 30/05/2020 18:46

justanotherneighinparadise I absolutely love his podcasts too. He really does make so much sense & he puts it across in a very easy to understand way.
