Vegan dieters support thread?

Fatkins · 05/07/2019 15:45

Hello!

Is anyone out there trying to lose weight while also being / trying to be vegan / plant based?

I am and would love some company! I have very recently gone vegan, but am wary of gaining weight. I actually really need to lose some, so I'm attempting both things at once.

I am doing Weight Watchers, but any approach, (but obviously vegan food), would be very welcome to join me.

I'm attempting to offset the damage from last weekend by having cabbage soup for dinner yesterday and today - this has kept me on 1000 cal per day, which isn't bad going. I don't even feel particularly hungry as it's so hot! Win.

ContessaLovesTheSunshine · 24/07/2019 20:24

Crazzy I'm off to a coastal area of Wales next week! Are you north or south? If south you may spot a grumpy looking vegan resisting snack food at the beach Grin

Fatkins · 24/07/2019 20:38

😂😂😂 contessa. I love the idea of a really grumpy vegan fending off chip vendors on Tenby beach! I hope you're having a fab time. Good plan to go there and escape this heat!

Lads, I'm doing it, I'm going back to WW. Clearly I CANNOT BE TRUSTED when left to my own devices 🤦😂😂😂. I'm wearing very little due to the heat and I'm sure it would be a lot more pleasant for all if I was a stone lighter 😂.

Fatkins · 24/07/2019 20:40

PPS: I know you didn't say Tenby, but that's the beach I'm visualising.

Hello all! I've been crazy busy and haven't reported in for a while Blush

damn and Fatkins thanks, I should probably be used to the racism by now, but its equally enraging every time. DH just shrugs it off. Which part do you hail from Fatkins? Smile

I've been keeping to alternate day fasting, the 30 day shred and yoga, it really has become routine now. I'm down another dress size too, which is really nice, and DC actually told me I was looking thin now Biscuit Grin

I have become a bit obsessed with ground flaxseeds, they're so delicious on and in everything Grin. V high calorie though so have to watch them on fast days. Boo.

Fatkins · 24/07/2019 21:31

Oooooh you're doing fab dinosaurs! Well done you!

I did some clothes shopping last weekend and bought a couple of items in a size 12, which pleased me no end. I was a 14-16 (more like a 16) when we started, so that is good for me. I never get below a 10, even when I'm a lot slimmer, so edging towards a 12 is good progress for me.

I am from Richmond, VA, but have lived in the UK most of my life.

I've signed up to WW (again #dietfloozyreturns).

Good to hear how everyone is doing! It's uncomfortably hot here tomorrow as well and DH has been told not to come to work as the trains are all screwed up. Loose I hope your journey is OK.

I ate less than normal due to feeling a bit overwhelmed with the heat, but I still managed to pack away a decent amount Grin

B: fruit, seeds and soya milk
L: avocado and some leftover nut roast (tiny portion hence extensive snacking later)
D: chickpea curry and steamed veg
Snacks: plate of raw veg with hummus, satsumas, and 6 squares of Ritter sport with marzipan. My absolute weakness, I bloody love that stuff!

Crazzzycat · 25/07/2019 00:29

That’s a great non scale victory Fatkins! I found some old size 12 linen trousers earlier this week, which now fit perfectly. Just as well, as I think I’m going to need them tomorrow 😬

Contessa I’m in the not-so-sunny north. I love the south too though. Some great beaches there.

I had a good day today. Lunch was corn cakes with pumpkin seed butter, fruit, soya yoghurt and seeds. Dinner was spicy bean wrap with a big green salad. For snacks I had a nectarine, a handful of nuts and a square of dark chocolate. And I did two walks, so I’m declaring today a success!

DamnItsSevenAM · 25/07/2019 07:48

I think I'm a bit larger than everyone else, I think I'm about a size 16? Not actually sure as I wear loose elasticated stuff all summer and menswear in winter Grin. But pleased to say I have lost another pound! Unless it's dehydration, which seems quite possible. Forecast 34 today where I am. The night was quite uncomfortably hot.

LooseAtTheSeams · 25/07/2019 08:22

I'm still in size 14 dresses although they aren't tight. I wore a size 12 top on Monday but at the moment it's so hot I don't want my clothes to touch me!
I wish I was in Wales right now! (Very happy holiday memories and of being a student in Aber for three years.)
Need to concentrate on fluids not food today.

Fatkins · 25/07/2019 08:52

I was a 14-16 and am now a 12-14. I definitely still need a 14 in jeans. Not that I could wear jeans in this heat! I am quite tall though, so even at a size 14 I'm quite heavy compared to normal sized women 😂. I'm not THAT tall. Just on the tall side.

I've just made some gazpacho, but left out the bread and went easy on the olive oil. Hopefully that will make it fairly WW friendly. Just having some fruit and a tea with almond milk for breakfast. The baby and I are going to head to the shops in a bit but then will be doing nothing but paddling for the rest of the day. It's set to reach some ridiculous temperature in London, which isn't far from us, so don't want to plan too much!

OP posts:
Crazzzycat · 25/07/2019 10:47

How’s everyone doing today in that sweltering heat? I heard rumour that it may even reach north Wales, but it’s still quite pleasant at the moment.

I started off as a large size 16 (or a size 18 in denial) I’m not actually sure what size I am these days. I just tend to wear whatever I can find in my wardrobe. I bought some new jeans last week which were a size 30 though, so I guess that makes me a 12?

My main motivation for weight loss wasn’t really about looks, but to get myself into the healthy BMI range. I started off obese in January and now have a BMI of 24.9 Smile

I could no doubt do with losing a bit more, but I’m not feeling a strong drive to lose it fast. I lost 20% of my weight this year and got my health to where I want it to be. For now my main focus is on keeping it that way and moving towards a 100% plant based diet. I never ever want to go back to where I started!

Meal plan for today is a spicy bean wrap for lunch and an experimental teriyaki tofu stir fry for dinner. Snacks will be soya yoghurt and seeds, a nectarine and a handful of almonds. I may even squeeze in some dark chocolate somewhere, if I feel like it.

Crazzzycat · 25/07/2019 10:48

Sorry that was so long 🙈

furrytoebean · 25/07/2019 11:12

Wow well done cat!

Fatkins · 25/07/2019 11:35

crazzzy, to go from obese to a healthy BMI is absolutely amazing! Hugest well done to you 👏👏👏👏.

I have done the total opposite and gone from a healthy BMI at the start of thid year to about 27, when we started this thread 😬. I don't actually know what my BMI is currently, but it's definitely still in the overweight category! Not by loads, but, like you, just for my health, I'd like to get back to a healthy BMI.

But the fact you've gone from obese to 24.9 in such a short space of time is really amazing and shows that a bit of hard work really pays off Star.

I went out today in not very much and actually, I think I looked quite... good. Though good may be an exaggeration... Maybe I looked alright Grin. The combination of doing more yoga and losing a bit of weight is definitely making me feel a lot better. Just need to keep at it.

This thread is great for preventing me from throwing in the towel btw Flowers.

Crazzzycat that's so brilliant! I am aiming to get comfortably into some size 12 clothes by next term.
I've managed to lose over a stone this year but I really need to shift another half stone to be where I want to be!
Having a vegan quorn and salad wrap for lunch and a lot of iced water!

Fatkins · 25/07/2019 11:38

loose, a stone off is also amazing progress.

OP posts:
Crazzzycat · 25/07/2019 21:59

Thanks all ☺️ Loose, congrats on losing that stone! I’m sure you’ll hit that goal in no time.

And I’m totally with you Fatkins in finding this thread motivational. It really helps me to keep going and stay on track.

I had another go at cooking tofu tonight, after my not particularly great attempt last week. This time I made crispy teriyaki tofu and it was so seriously delicious that I think I might have been converted 😋

No exercise today, because it was just too hot. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

LooseAtTheSeams · 26/07/2019 12:39

Trying my best - have got vegan sandwiches at the conference I'm at and just had a satsuma and orange juice for breakfast but someone near me is eating CRISPS! They smell so good but I shall be strong!!

LooseAtTheSeams · 26/07/2019 23:20

I was very strong until this evening when I had a chocolate dessert and earlier this afternoon when I ate biscuits. sigh.
Tomorrow is another day...

DamnItsSevenAM · 27/07/2019 01:25

Big congratulations to everyone on weight loss / size loss achievements! Very inspiring indeed!

Today wasn't my greatest day, I had an OK breakfast but then chips and beans for lunch in a cafe, and a strawberry muffin afterwards. It was jolly nice but not what I had intended. Dinner was fine - scrambled tofu, avocado, tomato and steamed veg.

I am sooooooo looking forward to the cooler weather coming to the East of England tomorrow and to feeling more like spending time preparing healthy stuff in the kitchen.

Fatkins · 27/07/2019 08:43

Hi all!

It's much cooler here now, thank God! We had a great night's sleep in normal temperatures!

Crazzzy, would you have the recipe for the teriyaki tofu please?

All fine here, although I've just had a jam tart and an apple for breakfast Blush.

Last night was tapas (yum) and I don't think I overdid it, which really isn't like me where there are tapas or sharing bowls to be had!

I have yoga this morning, but other than that, I'm not sure what the plans are today. I will have to plan meals around whatever we get up to.

Hope everyone is having a fab weekend!

Crazzzycat · 27/07/2019 10:27

I hope you’re all coming out of that heat wave by now. It’s really grey and overcast here, so hope that means things have calmed down where you are too.

Fatkins here’s the recipe. We used low salt soy sauce and it was still delicious:

www.connoisseurusveg.com/teriyaki-tofu/

I had a good day yesterday, but today is going to be a bit more of a challenge. I have a glut of sour cherries to get rid off and all I can think off is making cakes 😬

Fatkins · 27/07/2019 11:59

That looks amazing crazzzy! Thanks for the recipe. I have nearly everything on the ingredients list already so I might make tonight! Yum.

Just back from yoga and about to have some vegetable broth and a piece of wholemeal toast with flora. Suits the blissfully grey, wet weather we're now experiencing here! I love it!

OP posts:
DamnItsSevenAM · 27/07/2019 19:29

Cooler here too, yay! It rained most of the day but such a relief for that heat to be over!

I did quite well today...
B: fruit and seeds
L: shroomdogs, spinach and mushrooms
D: nut roast and a big salad

Not much snacking either although there's a vegan magnum in the freezer which is calling to me...
