I Quit Sugar - anyone up for this?

Cappster · 10/04/2015 13:51

I tried quitting sugar during January and it was really good - I lost a few pounds, ate really well, felt very good (after initial detox Blush)

I need to do it again but it would be really good to have a bit of support

Any takers?

Well today makes day 5. 5 days being sugar free and the going is good! If I can survive the bank holiday weekend I'll get my nails done on Tuesday! How's everyone else getting on?

NoisyOyster · 28/08/2015 19:34

Hello all, may I join? Been lurking for a few weeks in awe of you all Shock

Currently 4 days into complete cold turkey. There's been a lot of salads, fish, proteins and nuts. I was ok yesterday but tonight.... Oh god I want a battenburg. I can almost smell it

I have no idea why I haven't fallen on my chocolate bowl, because my mouth is latterly drooling with need

I sound like a deranged rabid mad mutt Sad

Dowser · 29/08/2015 08:09

Welcome noisy oyster ;-)

Hellokitty105 · 29/08/2015 08:11

Welcome! I'm on day 6, previously been sugar free but fell off the wagon after 2 week all inclusive holiday! I went nuts, drank and ate lots of ice cream and coming home and getting back on it was hard. Keep it up! I'm trying to reward myself with non food rewards when I achieve a goal. So far so good, just got to get through this weekend!

NoisyOyster · 29/08/2015 09:46

Cheers everyone Smile

The sugar cravings of pain from last night have disappeared on waking up hurray so off for some eggs and smoked salmon

msrisotto · 29/08/2015 15:00

Well done on getting through the cravings!

I had a piece of wedding cake yesterday and a fairy cake today due to social pressure Wink. I had designated tomorrow a rest day as well because I've got plans to bake chocolate eclairs and fondant fancies with my sister tomorrow! So not a great weekend in that respect...I'll get back on it next week though as I've really enjoyed seeing my weight fall with next to no effort.

Hellokitty105 · 29/08/2015 19:58

Today I was faced with temptation of crispy Kreme but I didn't succumb to temptation.. Proud!

NoisyOyster · 30/08/2015 08:16

Congrats kitty

Think I would have succumbed!

Hellokitty105 · 30/08/2015 08:25

I don't even really like Krispy Kreme it was just the peer pressure and sweetness (they just look good) that is hard because you know they arnt worth it.

Dowser · 30/08/2015 10:27

Never had a Krispy Kreme in my life and never will. Some things are just a Stretch too far.

The smell of them puts me off thankfully.

Good that you resisted. Well done.

Hellokitty105 · 30/08/2015 19:30

Day 7 completed and successful! Hope everyone else is doing okay. Any progress on your dress Dowser?

Dowser · 30/08/2015 23:37

Yes thanks Hellkitty. There's two on the way and I've a third waiting in the wings.
I asked the girls on the style and beauty thread for help and they found some lovely ones for me so I've ordered two of them. There's a third ill call on if they end up getting sent back.

( one is a size 20)

I'm now down to three meals a day. Two small and one medium or two meals. One small and one large.

Last chance saloon girls!

You can see the dresses on wedding dress fail ;-)

CatsRule · 31/08/2015 12:54

I've been following this thread and knowing that I need to make a lifestyle change for my health, and if I lose a little weight in the process then great.

Today I've started cutting out all the crap and snacking. And I plan to go swimming tonight. Crap and snacking isn't my only problem...being 'too busy' (sometimes genuinely) to exercise is an issue too!

I have a 3 year old and work full time...pregnancy didn't make me fat and unfit...going back to work and drawer munching did!

I've also been drinking more water and so far I've not missed the sugar or habit of snacking however I feel very shakey...I take it this is normal and will pass? I plan to drink more water to help it pass.

Well done to all of you on your achievements so far Smile

Hellokitty105 · 02/09/2015 08:41

How is everyone? Anyone got any September challenges planned?

They say it takes 21 days to kick a habit or make a change and I'm 10 days back on track so nearly half way there already!

msrisotto · 02/09/2015 11:59

Good work everyone!

My goal is to get back on track over the next few weekends. It might be a challenge as i am going to a restaurant in a couple weeks that's always a test of resolve!

NoisyOyster · 02/09/2015 12:49

I succumbed Sad just made the Christmas cake and it smelled so cinnamon-y and boozy and yum so I licked the bowl clean once the cake was in the oven

I'm telling myself it's the first slip up in over a week and it's not like I've gone around eating the bars of chocolate still in the house

CatsRule · 02/09/2015 13:20

NoisyOyster one slip up doesn't mean all is lost and resisting bars of chocolate in the house is not easy!

I'm only on day 3 and we have a meeting at work this afternoon and cakes/biscuits are always brought. Had a crappy morning so far and resisting will be hard. I'm half way through my water though and it's been harder today than Monday and Tuesday I must be walking miles just by going to the toilets!

NoisyOyster · 02/09/2015 13:49

Thanks cats

Good luck!

Dowser · 03/09/2015 09:51

My GP says it takes 5 days for anything to get out of the body. So if you do have a slip up you know by next week it's gone.

I'm doing fine. I had a mint yesterday. I found some while tidying up. Just the one. Didn't beat myself up about it. Probably won't have one today . It's good to be able to take or leave things like that. To treat them like I would treat cabbage for eg.

A dress turned up on Tuesday and I love it. Took it to the dressmakers as its a size 20 . There's plenty of room in the 34 inch waist but the bodice hung on me so they are taking about 3 ins off each shoulder and a good inch from under each arm. Oh heck I pick it up today. I forgot that.

My friend called yesterday. Another woman had not seen me in my original dress and she agreed with me that it just seemed to take away any shape.

I put it in the washing machine as all that trying on,/ time at the dressmakers had made it grubby and it's hung on a hanger and just looks beautiful. Makes me feel quite sad.
It went so lovely with my white and silver sandals and diamante bling for my hair. My new dress is very pretty. Sort of white and champagne colour. It has delicate gold thread woven through but I'm not buying new accessories.

So am busy packing. My house isn't quite a tip but I have bits and pieces pulled out here and there. I'm going to try my bikini ( read skirtini) on again today and hope it still looks ok.

Less than two weeks to go. Oh needs to get crackin printing off menus. We need to write down what we are going to say to one another.

And breathe ;-)

Dowser · 03/09/2015 16:30

In a world where sizes are now anybody's guess. This week I bought a size 20 wedding dress for the waist.

Tried on a size 16 skirtini and a 14 would havebeenfine.

And wearing a size 12 scuba dress and I don't think for one minute ive lost weight.

msrisotto · 03/09/2015 17:55

Scuba dress???

Hellokitty105 · 03/09/2015 20:51

Just sat to watch this Jamie Oliver programme on sugar and I could just eat a digestive biscuit! Hmm.. A digestive biscuit spread with peanut butter! Must resist!

Hellokitty105 · 04/09/2015 15:48

Just reading up more on Jamie's sugar tax. Apparently the daily recommended guideline for sugar is a 'maximum of 90g per day'. I've just checked my mfp macros and my usage goal is set at 49g which I never go over! Hopefully this is good!

msrisotto · 04/09/2015 16:18

I am going to an event tomorrow where I would usually bring along some brownies or something home baked basically.

Can anyone think of anything, probably savoury that I don't have to add sugar or sweeteners too that would be equally nice to take along? I've taken palmiers before and those were nice.
